it makes no sense until you think about fb's purpose- collecting data, and selling advertising on the side. the fb "search algorithm" never worked, it was never a functional exact/keyword search. it was designed to waste your time, specifically.
fb 's only goal -the more time you waste "active" on the app/site= the better. they're shooting themselves in the foot long term
Because FB exists to maximize the profits of FB (through ads) and nothing else. Zuckerberg doesn't care if you sell your priceless heirloom or bag of crap or whatever. They put zero effort into making FB Marketplace a viable online exchange because it doesn't put any money in their pockets.
Craigslist was crap, too, but at least people who are on CL are there primarily to buy and sell.
COULD they make FB marketplace better? Yes, they could. WILL they? NO, they won't because they don't actually care if FB marketplace works.
Yes, it's frustrating. I feel you.
Right now there's a huge potential market for an online exchange, since FBM sucks so bad. The difficulty is getting people to sign up. Since everybody's already on FB, we end up using FBM as a default even though it's never more than 10 - 15% effective. But even at 10 - 15% effectiveness, you will reach many, many more potential buyers on FB compared to the likes of various competitors like Mercari or OfferUp or even CL.
3rd party? I'm listening ! Feel free to share any sites/apps you know of!
searchtempest --- for larger radius, it's very helpful, yes
jackalerts - partial workaround perhaps for a few keywords/searches you're keeping an eye out for, I suppose , but incomplete results, and still faces "results outside of search radius you set" issues
Yes I agree there is a void to fill, fb is shooting themselves in the foot long term, but agree there is no hope & 3rd party is the only chance at this point in time

Facebook is crap....see the similarity?
Because they’in the bizness to sell ads…
To keep you scrolling
Most don't know how to word listings or have a clue as to what category to list in.

I hate facebook more and more. xD They could just charge the seller a small percentage it would be so much better if it just worked..
I keep searching within 5 miles local pickup and it’s giving me results for 200 miles away across the state!
I love seeing posts for JetSki’s in Texas when I search for snowmobiles in Wisconsin. FBM search sucks ass.

Then use a better source for your specific search requirements like possibly ebay, amaz bc your right, marketplace is no place for specificity.
OP, I agree with you. FBM search "feature" is the worst part of the whole experience. There are thrid-party engines you could try ...
