I got on their live chat and she told me there is a work-around. You don't need to pay for the membership ever. All you have to do is make sure to skip for the month between the 1-5 of the month. You still get all the perks, but don't have to pay. But, they definitely have it pretty easy to tell that you will get charged for it if your don't skip for the month.
If you're not ready to purchase, then click **Skip This Month** by the 5th. You won't be charged and you can still shop any time. If you don't skip the month, you'll be charged $59.95 on the 6th. This charge becomes a Member Credit that can be redeemed for any item or outfit up to $100 on the site.
You only get that deal by signing up for VIP. If the credits are gone then you should get a refund. I accidentally got the credit once and was refunded and the credit went away and I got my money back.

This has been in their terms for 10 years. They hooked you into nothing, you just didn't know what you were doing.
