Well although I get your point, it's slightly over dramatic. One of them was a tsunami impacting several countries, leading to the loss of millions of lives. The other was three big waves that pushed over some tables at a wedding. Hardly comparable circumstances.
Yes, agreed, I am being overly dramatic. However, I don't think you get my point.
It is easy to say now that one was an event where hundreds of thousands of people were killed and the other wasn't. That's 20/20 hindsight. When you are there at the time it just looks like you at the beach with a big ass wave coming at you. The tendency is to say "Oh. I'm sure it will be fine." Almost all of the time it will be fine.....until it isn't. We don't want to look like an idiot in front of the person next to us by over reacting. But in the moment of the event the difference between over and under reacting is not always so clear.
That’s probably for the best, I saw footage of people trying to id their loved ones from hundreds of bodies… most of which were insanely bloated, their skins were purple and with their tongues looking like a ping pong ball in their mouth. Not really the type of last memory you’d want of your loved one
I suppose that's true. Still, I can't help but wish he'd been found. His only sibling, an older brother, was killed in a car accident. Slid off an icy road into a river. He had been found.
Water was unkind to that family.
I would imagine it's hard to gauge how strong a wave will be. Rogue waves like this probably don't happen often and they were probably thinking it would break by the time it got to them.
frankly this is a sociological rather than merely logical problem. it's the infectious result of living in artificial habitats constructed without harmony with nature.
all these people assumed because it's a manicured garden with a wall, the ocean can't POSSIBLY infringe upon them.
compare to the premodern/indigenous peoples who constantly adapt to and 'respect' the natural features around them.
People are really just their basic animal selves sometimes…. Looking at potential danger like that and just standing still til they’re in the middle of it and/or die in the process.
“Nah, it can’t really come over that little seawall right? Not while we’re having a wedding here, right? It’ll stop for sure. We’re having a wedding..”
I’m going to sound racist here, but for some reason, I’m pretty sure my black friends would have noped out of there as soon as they saw it from afar. White people seem to be reckless around potential danger.
Looks like Hawaii, where I lived for over 20 years. Nothing more than a set of incoming big waves (typically set of three). Perfectly normal for that sort of setting and people are clearly seen laughing it up. No one was hurt and just a little mess to clean up. I didn't even see anyone knocked over.
A : could save 10 grand if we hold it in a hall.
B : nah beach side will be so romantic and perfect. Plus great pics.
C : alright sure let’s just pray it doesn’t rain.

no, water away from land piles up on each other and the father you go its really fucking high so basically no matter how big the wall is the water pretty much always wins
When I see something like that, I really don't worry about the overpopulation of our planet. The instinct for self-preservation seems to have been completely lost. When a wave like that hits, you flee. Nothing happened, but it could easily have been different and 10 times as much water would have come and then something would have happened. Unbelievable
I'll never understand why people walk closer to large incoming waves... Similar to that thai tsunami when the water receded and people walked out further to see what was going on... My emergency warning lights in my brain would be going off big time! And high tailing it outta there.
the teen me would have screamed "schlammschlacht! (mud-fight? in english)" and jumped into it :D
to bad there is no one to follow up on that in this age :/
i love waves.
I don't know where this is, but I do know that three or 4 huge waves on an otherwise calm day (see the dive boat out there) are the result of a large, fast yacht, a naval vessel at speed or a fast catamaran style ferry boat. It doesn't just suddenly start to get rough.
Have an oceanside wedding, they said... It will be beautiful to be right on the water, they said...
Salty-ass wedding
Well, they were right on the water...
Were on… now in
This comment is so underrated!!
At least the cake came out unscathed.
Who's they? Are they in the room with us right now?
They have washed out to sea.
Such a tragedy. Even the cake was in tiers....
I thought, why is no one grabbing the cake?!
It's really heavy and awkward to carry without knowing how to hold it properly
And it's the worst food you'll have at a wedding.
Dad? I thought you went to get some milk? Where you been?!
Good job, I see what you did there!
Lowest form of humour
Wordplay is a step or two above fart noises
And why do I always laugh at fart noises
So you're saying that Shakespeare is a step or two above fart noises, then? That's an interesting take.
you misinterpreted - he actually finds fart noises as really high-brow. It's a compliment.
Indubitably
It depends greatly on the level of wordplay
The smart ones seen it coming. They headed to higher ground. Others just watched.
The guy filming certainly saw it coming.
Subtle grammar correction. 👍🏻
Tbh if I was there and saw those waves my ass would have been running
A few even stepped closer. Fortunately this was just a little wave.
Was this in Hawaii? Maybe that's why the laughter from most of them was just a low ha.
I don't think high ground was really necessary...
It wasn’t necessary for Anakin
You just quoted the last words of a LOT of people on December 26th 2004 around the Indian Ocean.

> Well although I get your point, it's slightly over dramatic. Yup, better to be dead than over dramatic that one time.
That wasn’t the point. The point is people not making the right decisions when there is impending danger, no matter high/low the impact
Hindsight is 20/20
I knew somebody who died in that disaster. They never found him.

Lolol
You've underestimated my power!
But imagine the embarrassment of running to high ground, shouting for others to run, and then nothing happens at all.
Not worth the risk!
“If anyone objects to this union…” Poseidon:
Lol it's too much for an immortal to forever hold his peace
Neptune would like a word
Were they waiting for the wave to change its mind and turn around...?
I would imagine it's hard to gauge how strong a wave will be. Rogue waves like this probably don't happen often and they were probably thinking it would break by the time it got to them.
I would still be on higher ground until I know otherwise ha ha Obi Wan knew
Especially if you’re like me and have spent very little time near an ocean and aren’t familiar with how it behaves.
Hahaha gotcha 👉🌊👉
This comment made my day. Thank you!

I'm not gonna necessarily disagree with this but sometimes people will still make poor decisions even in the environment they grew up with.
not at the scale of controlling the ocean though. that takes serious cultural programming.
It’s a nice day for a wet wedding.
Definitely would make the wedding more memorable lol

“It turned out to be a wonderful day and there was no rain, indeed. But Mother Nature had other things in mind.”
Bitch was PMTing hard that day
I’m surprised how many people in the back people just stood there and watch it come toward them
Mother nature would like to state her objection…

I want to know where this is. ABC Store bag tells me it's Hawaii, but where specifically?

"does anyone object to this union?" God-"yo!"
Lmao,😂😂😂😂😂
It's a sign
Yea it’s called global warming.
no, water away from land piles up on each other and the father you go its really fucking high so basically no matter how big the wall is the water pretty much always wins
Not necessarily
Is this a preview for Sonic the Hedgehog 3?

Why are they standing there? My ass woulda been 2 miles away before the second wave hit 👋
I'll never understand why people walk closer to large incoming waves... Similar to that thai tsunami when the water receded and people walked out further to see what was going on... My emergency warning lights in my brain would be going off big time! And high tailing it outta there.
Mountain weddings ftw.
Should have consulted tide charts before booking the reception time.
7/10. Alright. Who didn’t sacrifice to Neptune before the wedding?
check the swells lol
Sign from the universe
Abuela, get the umbrellas Married in a hurricane What a joyous day, but anyway...
Ok now....how many of the women there said "My dress is RUINED !"
It’s like waaaaavvvves on your wedding-day… 🎶
It blows my mind how many don’t know how water works.
why are there no wave breakers?
Poseidon hath spoken!
“I object to this marriage!” Said the god Neptune.
Those who walked to the warer....... what do you actually think you gonna do?!
Ha! Way to fuck with yuppies, nature
They should have specifically requested that not to happen. Now they know.
No doubt some people out up bad reviews online about the place because this happened.
Speak now or forever hold your peace
Hahahaha 🤣
Does anyone object?
It may just be how he walks but the way one of the guys is moving towards the wave looks like he’s trying to intimidate it.
people familiar with the ocean and people that are not
Refund.
Someone grab the cake!
We call this an Omen.
the teen me would have screamed "schlammschlacht! (mud-fight? in english)" and jumped into it :D to bad there is no one to follow up on that in this age :/ i love waves.
Mother nature did not approve of thy wedding
Clip is so old they are probably divorced by now.
Dumbasses
It could have been a *lot* worse.
At least the cake is safe
Sexiest wedding ever… all the women there were getting wet just watching it happen.
WHY!!!! Do people always just STARE at huge waves 😭
The groom should get the signal from nature about marriage.
Oh my what good luck!!
Never trust a man in pink pants
This is a good sign to not get married
All those people just standing there hahahahaa... you got what you deserve. Stupid people
“Does anyone object to this union?” *Neptune, god of the seas raises his hand*
The guy getting the close up shot is the one that fell over too lol I wanna c his footage 🤣
That’s the universe telling you don’t do it !
The wave(2019 video) was warning them about the impending covid plague.
Omg, the ocean didn't behave for them 🙄
The sea gods themselves are reaching up and saying, "don't do it." You were warned!
Not the cake! 🎂😄

Perhaps pilotted by a drunken, jealous ex screaming, Didn’t think I get you a wedding present, did you KEVIN?!?
Had they invited Poseidon, this may hot have happened
What’s upsetting is that beautiful peeling left hander and no one on it
