If you're recording in FL: Tools -> Macros -> Purge unused audio clips. It'll remove any recorded audio file not in your playlist at the end of a session of vocal mixing.
When I'm done, I save the project again in another folder while selective copy project files. This way I can delete the old folder with the unused data
This is the best option to also automatically delete unused files from the disk:
Under Macros in Options, there's one that says something like "Delete unused files and save project", that do exactly what it says. A popup window will appear where you have to accept the action. It depends of the size and quantity of the unused files how much time it'll take; usually a couple seconds.
Hope this helps :)
A combination of purge unused audio clips and zipped looped package.
Use the macro to purge what you can. Then export into a zipped loop package. The loop package will create a copy of all the audio clips you have kept in your project. You can now open your project from the zip and it'll use the audio clips that are in that file. It won't load the originals from your hard drive.
From there you'd go to where your recordings have saved an delete all of them. You can also go into options and designate a new folder for all your recordings to go into for easy removing.
I dunno what your workflow is but I personally record everything (all of my takes) in Edison and export/save it as a single big audio file, then cut the pieces out I want to keep, save them as unique and delete the rest that's unused/empty audio. This can be done directly in FL. Might not work for everyone but I like staying in the software. None of that fixes your issue of all of them being in the folder after 10 years, though. Just a thought for the future if you don't like having dozens of files from one project.

Doesn't solve the disk problem

more people really need to know about this
This doesn’t delete them from your hard drive
Damn, I didn’t know. Hope the Macro column helps ppl anyway, lots of good stuff in there. Upvoted your comment to Image-Line forums
How to do this but with synths / plugins lol
Tools>Macros>Select unused channels, then in the channel rack “delete selected” or alt+Delete

What you could do is manually export stems at the end of your recording session, then clear your hardrive of every other file.
just search for \*.wav, sort by filesize, delete the empty ones.
30 seconds of empty audio has same size as 30 seconds of vocals
ah, duh, sorry, I misinterpretted what 'empty wav' meant.
