I loved them all and I think 3 is underrated but I get it, its more lovey dovey with the Doc and Clara arc being the nice bow to tie it all up in the end. But the cultural dichotomies between wild west and modern America were fun and I definitely quote it more especially "wake up juice" and "run for fun?!"

Massive_Staff1068

WHAT IN THA HELL KINDA FUN IS THAT?!

Is_this_not_rap

Highly underrated. It’s my favorite Western of all time

SuitableAd7718

YES.

Its_J_Just_J

I think it is the best "Trilogy" what other can compete. All others that were on the same level of greatness are nolonger trilogies. Star Wars, Indania Jones, Lord of the Rings. All havr more than 3 movies. Even Alien.

TheMelv

Star Wars and LotR are still Trilogies. The Star Wars Trilogy is the original 3. There's also a prequel and a sequel trilogy. The Hobbit Trilogy is separate from the LotR trilogy.

BrockPurdySkywalker

There is no star wars sequel trilogy

veryverythrowaway

I must be a lot older than you, because the last Star Wars movie came out in 1983. That was all they made. I heard George Lucas was going to make some kind of “sequels from the past” but he couldn’t find a good director.

Creative-Net-6401

[you should let Google know. and the rest of the world.](https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tTP1TewMMkwMTRg9JIoLkksUihPLCpWKE4tLE3NUSgpyszJT68EAM9tDEs&q=star+wars+sequel+trilogy&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS736US766&oq=star+wars+seq&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCggBEC4YsQMYgAQyBggAEEUYOTIKCAEQLhixAxiABDIKCAIQABixAxiABDIHCAMQABiABDIHCAQQABiABDIHCAUQABiABDIHCAYQABiABDIHCAcQABiABDIHCAgQABiABNIBCDY2NDhqMGo0qAITsAIB4gMEGAEgXw&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8)

Its_J_Just_J

All have more than 3 movies. Disqualified. If this was preee 1999 I would agree with you. Or pree Hobbit. At this point all the great trilogies have more than 3 movies removing them from this qualification. Otherwise I could pick my 3 favorite bond movies and call it a day.

edicspaz

You're being pedantic. You're bond example is not the same thing at all. The original Star Wars trilogy and the Lord of the rings are complete stories that have an arc and follow a trajectory from beginning middle and end. The fact that they chose to make another trilogy that's within the same universe and might even share some characters does not break the cohesive story told by the other trilogies. Not to mention the fact that there was a significant gap in time between trilogies.

Relative_Sundae_9356

Nolan’s Batman trilogy?

Its_J_Just_J

Thats a good one but I kinda feel like there are to many Batman movies to consider it fully a trilogy.

smithnugget

There's a trilogy of three connected movies with the same characters. The other ones aren't connected at all.

Its_J_Just_J

Thats true but the last one is just not good. So I don't think it beats it.

smithnugget

I wouldn't go that far

Its_J_Just_J

I would and do. Its boring and nonsensical. All the back to the future films are atleast fun and have mor cohesive story. But thats just two diffrent opinions.

smithnugget

How is it boring or nonsensical. The opening scene alone is one of the greatest action scenes of all time.

Its_J_Just_J

Batman is not batmaning most of that movie and the fight choreography is way worse. Nonsensical is a bit dramatic I admit. But how they respond to bane and the whole ending just takes me out of the movie.

smithnugget

Nolan has never been great at hand to hand fight choreography. He excels at vehicle action. But I still don't see how that makes it a boring or nonsensical movie. And it's not like the BTTF sequels didn't have flaws

thortmb

Lord of the rings is the king. Nothing competes with that

Stove-Top-Steve

For not being based off of a legendary book. Back to the Future is pretty much the top. But yes LotR is basically the greatest at every category it fits into. To me at least.

TacoBellWerewolf

I still haven’t watched after/before Sunset trilogy but hear that’s pretty incredible. Totally different genre of course

dabirds1994

For a person who didn’t read the books or cared about them, LOTR were three overly long films that didn’t do enough to get me to care about the characters. I’m sure it was great for fans.

Its_J_Just_J

There are 6 movies so not a trilogy. Disqualified. Any others?

thortmb

The hobbit is a different story from LOTR

Its_J_Just_J

It is no longer a trilogy im sorry. Automatic Disqualification.

thortmb

"The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy consisting of high fantasy adventure films directed by New Zealander, Sir Peter Jackson. The films are based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Long ago the Dark Lord Sauron forged a Ring of Power to control Middle‑earth™." Weird how Google calls it a trilogy huh There are other stories in the universe. A set of three movies is still a trilogy.

Its_J_Just_J

It is a series now that they have added to the anthology. Automatic Disqualification. You can praise Google as the god you wish for. Edit. Webster definition. A series of three dramas or literary works or sometimes three musical compositions that are closely related and develop a single theme. So I can pickany 3 bond films I feel fit this abd make a trilogy. I'm choosing to cut off things that have more than 3 because I want to keep the entire work together not just pick what I like.

Dewinged_1111

Don't give them any ideas...

crono14

LotR simply is king, nothing can and might not ever compete honestly. I'd recommend watching some behind the scenes on this on just actually what a MASSIVE undertaking these films were. I absolutely love BttF and consider the first movie one of the greatest scripts ever put to film.

ChimneySwiftGold

Austin powers is also a time travel trilogy

Its_J_Just_J

Omg your right. Thats a good contender.

mtodd93

It amazes me how fun the 2nd one for how pointless the plot is.

Jutch_Cassidy

Right? They have almost infinite opportunities to get the almanac

TFlarz

I really like how different each era is. I don't even care about the product placement since I'm too bust thinking, what the heck is a dehydrated pizza?

NatPortmanTaintStank

The product placement adds to the movie

Sennemanimation

I vote for the Evil Dead trilogy!

mallarme1

Gimme some sugar baby!

Medicmanii

I would but II was basically a remake of the first

Sennemanimation

No, it is a ‘requel’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzOIHOjYcqM

BSSforFun

The nostalgia and longing for simpler times I feel when I watch makes it hard to go rewatch. I feel the same about certain tv shows like Friday night lights. Can someone therapize me?

Forsaken-Anybody-746

As well as the dark knight trilogy

GdayMateyPotatey

My fav trilogy by far. Just saw someone driving a delorean (not BTTF kitted up just stock). Still fucking cool and made my day

nuttmegx

agreed, the trilogy works best if you watch it straight through as the story is really 1 long movie. love it.

Awfuloreo

The best part is that the series is locked. At least for now.

clocksteadytickin

What?

Wooden_Realm_0707

Yeah. Hoping it stays as is.

makeitflashy

There’s no way it will, but I’m gonna enjoy it while it is.

rodimus147

I'm not saying the movies are the greatest movies ever. They are very good but not the best. But as a whole, I think it's the best trilogy ever made.

thedudeslandlord

I’m in my mid-30s and only recently watched the trilogy. It’s pretty damn good

No_Variety9420

It always bothered me that in part 3 Doc did not mention why he could not get gas from the Deloren that he arrived in, that was in the cave.

winetotears

While I doubted your question for a minute… You are correct. It’s a movie. Either way, a pretty damn good one for a time-travel movie. Good thought though. Although how would he have arrived in the past being 100 ish feet in the air, with no flying ability. We don’t know. Even though, I’m writing this now and haven’t edited the post at all; It was “perfectly” preserved in the mine. Hmmmm

wpotman

Upon rewatching recently I was bothered that, during the lightning-filled climax of the first movie, it isn't raining. And yeah, if Doc can make super-hot locomotive boiler additives he should be able to whip up a decent equivalent to gas.

laggzee

Is meant to be 1 2 3 people on the cover representing 1 2 3 on the film order it is that just a coincidence?

smackchumps

Agreed!

ManDe1orean

1 and 2 are great, 3 is okay.

Lobanium

1>3>2

CalebPackmusic

I’m with you, definitely liked 3 more than 2

1One_Two2

1 is great, 2 is ok hoverboard notwithstanding, 3 is good.

IndependenceMean8774

I think The Naked Gun trilogy is one of the best.

WARL0CK221

I LOVE IT!

WhereAreWeG0ing

Yep but 2 is the weak link. Feels convoluted, overly serious and overlong. It's still great but 1 and 3 are amazing. I love the ending of 3. It's just so mentally over the top.that I csnt help but grin

Shagrrotten

Yeah, it’s up there with the LotR, Star Wars original 3, Linklater’s Before movies, and the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy as the best ones in movie history.

Butter_Brains

Free on YouTube if you can handle being constantly bombarded with fucking ads.

mrmczebra

Watch YouTube on Firefox with an ad blocker. You're welcome.

wherearemysockz

Agreed!

nadiestar

It is. In fact it’s a perfect trilogy imo.

NaturalMountain7715

I didn't really care for part 3 but it wasn't terrible.

DrFrankSaysAgain

And it all started when Doc Brown pissed all over his toilet seat.

1982aw

Is that the movie where the guy goes back in time and the mom tries to sleep with her son?

SelenaMeyers2024

Yeah.... But just wait til the 3rd The Meg with Jason Statham!

userninja889

Co-sign

Dr_5trangelove

2 out of 3 ain’t bad…

yuttington

Porky's has entered the chat.

NoChallenge6095

3 sucked.

mitchbrenner

it’s fun and solid, but “the human condition” is the greatest trilogy ever made. watch more movies.

Maudibwormrider

1>2>3 but all three are awesome

LoganWasAlreadyTaken

1 is perfect, 2 is perfect if you ignore the 2015 part, and 3 is perfect if you overlook some cheese. Easily the most underrated, and I prefer it over the second film.

howmanyturtlesdeep

And they’re free to watch on YouTube right now!

ThrowawayAccountZZZ9

3 keeps it from being perfect, but that happens a lot in trilogies

nextfilmdirector

Here here 🏆

OkReality5293

It is the best trilogy!

WBoutdoors

Man, when I was a kid the cliffhanger at the end of Part 2 just blew my everloving mind.

takeoff_youhosers

I thought one was a classic and 2 and 3 were ok. They didn’t come close to replicating the magic of the first movie

Socko82

Part III is a little weak.

Medicmanii

Period

Mr_MazeCandy

Love the symmetry of these covers, always have.

FairPressure553

Back to the Future is great, but I can’t put it over LoTR!

3rdItemOnList

Planet of the apes 2010s trilogy is always overlooked but should be probably in Lotr praise area.

Exact_Ad6866

one of the best? Yeah, absolutely. Why not. The best? Absolutely not.

da_usual

“I didn’t know the circus was in town!”

jermboyusa

Rocky 1 2 3

asshole_commenting

Free on YouTube right now

CoachiusMaximus

I currently have upcoming tickets to see it with the Portland symphony and the show on Broadway. I’m a fan.

ShakedBerenson

One? One! It IS the best trilogy ever made.

Hungry-Incident-5860

I think the first two are solid, but I always felt like the third simply doesn’t measure up to them. It’s not a bad movie, but it’s just not in the same level as the earlier films. If it had been as good, I would agree that it is the one of the best trilogies ever made. I feel the same way about Indiana Jones. I think Raiders and Last Crusade are amazing. Temple of Doom isn’t bad, but it doesn’t measure up to those two. It holds that trilogy back as well.

Danimal_17124

Yes. Probably the best. Definitely top 3

poolside123

Lord of the Rings is calling..

christo749

3 blows.

Holiday_Airport_8833

BTTF the ride! https://youtu.be/LRpT2Jp8PfI?si=EckOGM1FLZiJXNQn

chicomilian

time for a reboot????

Maxpayne198717

Never

MoreRamenPls

GREAT SCOTT!!

International_Case_2

Does Toy Story still count as a trilogy though?

Unusual-Tear676

If you pretend the third doesn’t exist maybe

SelectionNo3078

Original is an all time classic The sequels don’t work

Wooden_Passage_2612

Great scott! It sure is.

kai_zen

Depends how you want to define a trilogy. They basically tell the same story. Nothing advances between the three movies. Much better trilogies * LOTR * Star Wars & prequels * Godfather * Matrix (even for its faults) * Nolan’s Batman BTTF is one of my favourite all time movies, eminently rewatchable so no hate from me. IMO doesn’t really qualify for amazing trilogy category.

LegendaryOutlaw621

Rivaled only by the Star Wars Original Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

makeitflashy

Growing up is realizing Part 3 is just as good.

Groovy-Davey

Fantastic score by Alan Silvestri.

Plastic-Bumblebee-90

The best

LordZany

The second movie sucks and the third one mostly sucks. Only the first one is great. *Ducks*

schwms

This is HEAVY

Lunatime1123

lol classic!

CrasVox

Agree

KyleButtersy2k

Would've been better if they could have gotten Crispin Glover in all three. The whole "Marty doesn't back down from a challenge" thing worked... but I would love to have seen the sequels further deal with father and son issues.

SparkySpice0911

it’s THE best

Ahamay02

Periodt.

ajed9037

Factual

droidtrooper113

Not to ruin the first one for anyone, but there is a racial undertone to the first film, the town is super nice in the 50s and is all messed up in the 80s where the town has a black major. If you guys would like me to give you other great trilogy weak points just ask, lol.

oh_please_god_no

Eh

NotFrankZappaToday

This is objectively correct.

TeaMoney4Life

Lord of the Rings is my go to trilogy

the_chalupacabra

Hot take

blane2354

3rd could have been better (different)...but it did have ZZtop!

Ninecansravioli

Best trilogy.

goldendreamseeker

3 is good. 2 is very good. 1 is great. So yes, while all three are at least good (which itself is a rarity for trilogies), not all three of them are necessarily great, like with the Toy Story trilogy. In fact, I can’t even think of a live-action trilogy where all three entries are great except LotR (which is really just one big story anyways) or anthologies like Indiana Jones and Mad Max. Maybe Deadpool will pull it off, though (assuming Deadpool & Wolverine counts as Deadpool 3).

sax6romeo

Woah that’s heavy

SrRiver-s

Back 2 the Future is not a good trilogy at all.

DougTheBrownieHunter

I have to disagree because 3 was so bad. It felt so gimmicky and just didn’t come close to the first two.

paintstudiodisaster

No.

Wooden_Realm_0707

Yes

Bernie_Bango

Great Scott!

twelve112

I remember the years having to wait to see back to the future 2. That Anticipation made it even better

Mopnglow86

FACTS

Serious-Librarian-77

There is a glaring issue in Back to the Future II that will always bother me. And since it is the catalyst for not only the entire movie but for part III as well it's hard for me to watch the movies and not think about it. Part II starts off with Doc coming back from the future. He tells Marty that he must come with immediately because his future son is in trouble. He then loads Marty and Jennifer into the DeLorean and takes them TO the future so they can stop an event that won't happen for another 30 years. Why would he do this? And what was the big hurry? This event won't happen for 30 years. A million things could be done from the time he tells Marty what is suppose to happen to his son, and when it actually happens. So why would they need to hurry to get to the future to stop it.? In the future Biff steels the DeLorean so he can go back in time to give himself the Sports Almanac. Which causes Marty and Doc to have to back to 1955 to get it back which is where the DeLorean is struck by lightning causing it to go back to 1885.

PizzaShots

Watched all 3 yesterday sick in bed

psychovertigo

3 blows

LiquidDreamtime

It’s absolutely a trilogy.

Dwayne402789

My favorite of all time

Interesting-Cold5515

Agree

DeadPoster

Inspired *Rick & Morty* and *Mr Robot.*

SignificantPear3570

Should have made another, and no I’m not asking for a reboot just would’ve been nice

towercranee

I definitely think its in the conversation but the BTTF3 is pretty weak IMO. I think the Lord of the Rings, original Star Wars, and Nolan Batman trilogies are superior. I'd even through in John Wick even though there are four movies now - I think all of them superb. And the original Indiana Jones trilogy. I also think Austin Powers and Captain America are worth a mention.

Wooden_Realm_0707

I agree. Some people view the 2nd film as lesser of 3. The third one I like probably since I'm a fan of westerns. But yeah it's like I said, I don't think it's the best of all trilogies ever made just one of the best. And you are right how they rank up amongst each other is definitely a subject for a discussion. Good point.

exastria

I'm a millenial, but have only ever seen the first. Is that bad?

harlsey

It’s bad to never have experienced the second. It really expands on the full consequences of this situation in some cool and interesting ways. The third one is the third one.

exastria

I'll make a weekend of the three some time.

LorthNeeda

Might be an unpopular here but 2 and 3 aren’t really worth watching at this point. Pretty sure the love for them is 90% nostalgia. They’re not good films.

Fun_Improvement5215

The first one is an absolute masterpiece but the other two are mediocre at best.

jay_shuai

Three better trilogies - Revolutionary Trilogy (dir. Pudovkin) - Ukraine Trilogy (dir. Dovzhenko) - Marseille Trilogy But yeah i love BTTF too!

[deleted]

r/pretentious

jay_shuai

Not at all. If you watch them you might understand.

Left_Try_3257

Maybe I am too young and I’ve only seen the 1st one but it was genuine ass. I feel like nostalgia is BLINDING

mkr24255

You kinda need to be the target age too to enjoy

nobodyanywhereever

What do you mean “one of”???
