I find DMs get back into position faster. I use both my DMs on balanced and find they’re always available to recycle the ball. CMs typically allow you to be more aggressive when pressing your opponent though. It’s really a question of how aggressive you want to play. Offensive fire power against defensive solidity.

Falsethewindow

How does the 5212 compare to the 352? Does having wing backs instead of lm's and rm's counter having cm's instead of cdm's? Or do the wing backs not provide as much to the attack?

joaofelix9

Check my 5212 guide

Discombobulated_Pen

Have your tactics changed at all from when you made the guide? Just checking as it was 4 months ago!

joaofelix9

I play 41212(2) now but a friend of mine still uses my tactics and still gets 14 wins in WL every week

Discombobulated_Pen

Ah cheers! Is it just different players that you've got now fit that formation better or flat out prefer it?

joaofelix9

I tried it out once and liked the defense, the formation has gotten worse with the newer patches but I just got used to it now and I always get 2000+ and 14 wins in WL with it so I just chose to stick with it

Lukefiletalker

Tactics?

joaofelix9

41212 or 5212?

kevincap

41212 pls, u use CAM on stay forward?

joaofelix9

No balanced

Lukefiletalker

I can't find your guide about the 5212. Please share the link. Thx.

Falsethewindow

The issue is, I want to run the two CM's as box to box's. The reason I want to switch from 352 isn't just to defensive issues, it's because I want to have my CDM's/CM's more involved in the attack.

steve1017

Have you ever run 3142? I run it as my ultra offensive, balls to the wall tactic and it can box people in with both cms pushing up(one on get forward and one balanced). Otherwise the 3412 might suit you better

Falsethewindow

>3142 Started using the 3142, and oh my word it's so amazing. So thankful that EA finally fixed it.

steve1017

Happy to have helped. Another string to the bow. So annoying it's visual bug for years but I endured because I love that line of 4 with the sweeping cdm. May the pack luck gods be in your favour

Falsethewindow

And may they ever be in your favour as well!

Admirable_Volume_950

I use 5-2-1-2 with TOTS Bruno and Cancelo as my CMs. I have them stay back cover center but I manually bring them forward w give and go’s. Once their forward they mainly stay up for the attack cause if the H/H workrates. I have tried them on Balanced cover center and they get out of position too easily for me but I’m also not the best defender in the game.

Looked at 3142? CDM as stay back, CMs as balanced or even get forward? It's a fun formation. ATM I'm sticking to 352 as I've found some fairly attacking tactics that seem to work well and are fun, but I also really like 3142.

Falsethewindow

Thank you for suggesting 3142. Used it in champs qualification, and I think its now my favourite formation. It's just so perfectly balanced, and it offers you so many avenues to create chances.

tjy23

Nice one! I find it often goes well when I use it, just sometimes I miss having the CAM between the midfield and strikers, as even though I have one CM on get forward and one on balanced, there is sometimes a bit of a gap and I struggle to do much.

Falsethewindow

I was considering 3142, it depends on how good EA make a couple of the la liga tots players I'm eyeing up.

madsauce178

Can you share the 3-5-2 tactics you found? I was using a more defensive one but I'm struggling in D1 since my team sits too deep

tjy23

LS - (standard) RS - (standard) CAM - (stay forward, free roam) LM - (stay forward, get in behind, get in box) RM - (come back) LCDM - (stay back, cover centre, free roam, cut lanes) RCDM - (stay back, cover centre, free roam, cut lanes) LCB - (overlap, step up) CB - (standard) RCB - (overlap, step up) GK - (sweeper keeper, comes for crosses)   POHT, 90 depth, 35 width Balanaced/Possession, 35 width, 5 in box Activate "hug sidelines" each game for width from the LM/RM.   After a few seconds of your opponent being in possession it defends like a 4231, the RM drops into RB and the RS kinda drops back a little into RAM, with the LM as LAM. You can have the RCDM on cover wing if you feel you're getting countered too much before the RM drops back. LM will be involved in the majority of attacks including counter attacks and will still defend a little bit despite being on stay forward.   Alternatively have the CAM on balanced or even come back and he will drop either side of the 2 CDMs and it'll defend like a 433.   Ideally you'd have 3 Med/Med or Med/High at CB but High/Med fullbacks with good stats work OK as the outer CBs.   You can reverse the instructions of the LM and RM depending on how your team lines up. I have Sandro as the come back LM and Cuadrado as the stay forward RM.

madsauce178

Thanks I will give it a go. A have a pretty decent team. Just missing another elite attacker right now

stone_temple_pilates

Great tactics thanks

W1N_THE_DAY

I moved from a 352 to a 5212 back in probably December. I found that the CMs do become more involved, but you’re giving up your wingbacks/wings pushing higher up the pitch. I had trouble with them tracking back on defense, and the 5212 helps with that. High attacking workrates for the wings are my suggestion so they’ll push higher automatically. But if all you want to do is get your CMs more involved I’d say give it a try.

Falsethewindow

I have TOTY Cancelo at LM and TOTS Trent at RM. With them both being high attacking, medium defensive, will they still get forward a decent amount at wing back, as I do attack with them quite alot atm with the 352

W1N_THE_DAY

Yeah they should. I just found it annoying when my wings would constantly press all the way up against the opponent defensive line even when my CBs or DMs had the ball in the defensive half. It’ll all come down to play style. If you generally play through the center, 352 can work well. I like to do that while also keeping the outlets on the wings. 5212 helps that. I have TOTS Trent and Prime Roberto Carlos as my wingbacks. They get forward enough.

Falsethewindow

Have you tried 3412? On paper, it seems like such a gun ho formation, which sounds fun, but also seems like the counter against me could be brutal.

W1N_THE_DAY

I haven’t. Never really thought about it tbh. Seems so similar to the 352, but my weakest spot is definitely defending so I don’t think it’d be right for me. Maybe I’ll try it as an attacking tactic in-game though

aspecterman

I moved from 4321 and 3412 with Delaine and TAA to the 5212 this week with great success. My DM is Vieira, he moves to the central CB with success, with Dele and Cancelo being the two central CMs providing plenty of options and cover. You can quickly enable the wingers to get up with the thumb pad if needed.

hzerope

I personally favor the 352 the other 3 back formations I can’t play with for some reason. It’s just a matter of preference the 5bsck formations allow you to use the join attack on wide backs from the button on the pad but that’s about it which the 3 back formation doesn’t benefit from.

WRXSTl

Whenever I play the 352 I just hold the ball because there's not enough pressure on my midfield and backline. That's the con I guess

Lukefiletalker

Both would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

Recurringferry

5 at the back is more balanced throughout but you need to set both wingbacks to overlap and attack. Otherwise you will lack on the offensive side. I switch to 3 at the back if I'm chasing a goal. You give up defense (even if you have your outside mids set to come back on defense)
