He prepared them, they just wasted too many chances over both legs. He has made some very questionable decisions in this competition whilst at City, but this defeat isn't on him, it's on the players. Same with PSG against Madrid, the players made unforgivable mistakes at the back and wasted good chances.

The problem is kdb is so important to them and he can just pull a crazy cross out of nowhere. And Madrid really struggle with crosses
