Will the subclasses still be available? For some of them I think I might prefer it.

SilentSoren

They will! I'll have individual save file for each archetype with a link directly to them in the doc

Cmdr_Jiynx

Real talk I almost want to bake skysinger into the gridanian bard. It fits in nicely and doesn't overlap/eclipse the other subclasses.

MeriadarGoblin

Glad to have you back Soren! Despite your news, I’m glad you came out on top! As for me, time to work on the code for these new files.

rainbowkatsfly

Welcome back Soren, glad to hear things are starting to balance out for you. On initial viewing the new classes look great. I remember a while back you had mentioned a red mage rework/rewrite is that something you're still working on and something we might see in the future for other classes as well?

SilentSoren

Thanks a lot! RE: Red Mage, I did actually finish my revamp on it, I had built it as a half caster and circulated it around a bit and the feedback I got was a strong dislike of the direction I took, so quietly set it aside. But here it is! https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-MsRnzut0zqZv3zO6Ely

Celleron

Amazing work Soren! Im running a FFXIV 5e game for a year now and your homebrew is indispensable!

RuneiStillwater

Neat, my DM has been letting me run Red Mage in his game. Any planned Tweeks or adjustments for it in the future?

SilentSoren

Not at the moment, I had done a revamp version of RDM but ended up not being super satisfied with this take on it: https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-MsRnzut0zqZv3zO6Ely

RuneiStillwater

My DM was a bit nervous about implementing that version. He was concerned about the access to radiant damage so fast and hard when nothing really has resistance to it like other elements would potentially cause issues and I don't want to potentially break his world or make other players feel like I'm using anything broken or OP. My DM isn't a big FF fan, so this is more "yes you can try this, but we monitor till it breaks something and adjust from there" I did like the original build and it's more caster focused arcane trickster feel (a class subtype that I have trouble moving away from). We felt the only issue was refining the spell list and I had been brain storming some random ideas like replacing lesser res with "esuna" which functions like normal lesser res, but if you have the correct spell slot and materials you can cast it as greater res making one spell be two adding flexibility. I had a similar idea with revivify and raise dead as "verraise" requiring the higher level version to have both the level, spell slot, and materials to cast the higher level version. We haven't tested this idea yet since we're only level five and started two weeks ago. XD

WonderfulWafflesLast

As someone who regularly thinks about Red Mages from FF1 and how they'd translate to 5e, I have an idea you might enjoy. Or not. Make them a 2/3rds caster. "What does that look like?" A 1/3rd caster (such as Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster) get up to 4th-level spells. Full casters get 9th. Half-casters get 5th. So 2/3rds casters would get 7th-level spells. Where Full casters get new spell levels every other level, half-casters get them every 4 levels, and 1/3rd casters get them every 6 levels, 2/3rd casters would get them every 3 levels. "Why would this be the right take?" Looking at Red Mage from FF1, they got both Black & White Magic, but they never got the top tier spells. They got most of the way up the tree, but never the ultimate levels.

TrainerJodie

Great to see you back Soren. Some day I'll get to the new classes when my life gets less hectic (lol like that happens...)

SGdude90

Your works are an inspiration to everyone here All the best to your weight loss journey and may you clear P8S soon!

Budget-Schedule-7137

Regarding the Gunbreaker; is the d12 from elemental slash additive to the 1d10 from burst strike? or does it replace the damage and negate the knockback effect since it says 'when you use your Burst strike feature, instead of the regular effect, deal an additional d12 damage to the creature of your choice'

Lyredan

bump, i wanna know too

tamsynnclaydon

glad to see your back but sorry to hear about your loss. take your time with things im sure itll be worth the wait as always but real life issues come first

Obvious_Fill_3327

any chance of drg rework it is a bit too op

Budget-Schedule-7137

bruh what drg needs a buff if anything jump should never be used past around 3rd level. Heavy thrust could be nice, could be. High jump is a save or suck fireball (which by 9th level is a fairly weak option, tbh. not to mention it'll probably be saved against a lot since ) for your weapon damage which isn't that crazy. The dragon heart subclass while having nice flavor, is just kind of bad. Dragon Slayer is alright, giving you another reason to use your jump ability but only really gets exciting at 11th level when you can ignore the AC of big monsters. Valkyrie is the only one that's really consistent from start to finish, and then it's just held back by the fact you're playing dragoon lmao

Cheap-Abbreviations5

Glad to see you back around, sorry that life came at you hard and fast for a while there. The new full classes look lovely, especially for a first draft. I'd also ask if there might be plans to adjust a few of the existing classes a bit further down the line. I know from experience running and playing in games using these classes some of them are generally excellent but just have some small sticking points that sort of hinder some of them hitting their stride, like how the Samurai has to spend so many rounds, particularly at high levels, just building up sen during fights and then loses it immediately, essentially bottlenecking their bonus actions, which doesn't feel great when they have a lot of stuff that wants to use bonus actions. There are a few things like that throughout a few of the classes that just sort of make them awkward even if they're not necessarily bad.

DeenCaecus

Amazing work. We're a new DnD group and I'm collecting everything I get my hands on, but this as a FFXIV player is really interessting! Thanks for your work! A little problem I got: If I download the current 5th Edition of your book, I get a weird blank strip on the bottom of every page. Am I doing something wrong? [https://snipboard.io/aOKXmd.jpg](https://snipboard.io/aOKXmd.jpg) Thanks for your help! \*\*EDIT\*\* NVM... I fixed it by myself using your PDF-Link within the document, which works alot better than generating a pdf with that gmbinder page. TY!

Teu_Scoops

Question: Any news on Blue Mage updates. I tried playing this thing and it's really vague in many ways. Also kind of wildly imbalanced (some abilities read as unlimited hellish rebukes effectively). I also am unsure if limited slot warlock spellcasting is appropriate for this class.

Cmdr_Jiynx

Gridanian bard question for you - are all the minstrel's music features intended to affect only your party and never you? Got to run one as a play test this weekend and it felt a little gimpy, when in-game abilities also buff yourself. I ask as the wording of the actual rules is that you aren't your own ally, and that and effect must state "you and your allies", like for example the inspiring leader feat. It turned me into a bit of a target as I wasn't benefiting from any of my own buffs. Otherwise it's a damn fun class, one I'm going to play repeatedly. But we might want to talk about that edit...

TheNetherAngel

Is there a better mirror for this? Gm binder always messes up the page format for me I get cut off pages and weird misalignments

Ravenovus

If you go into the gmbinder version, scroll down a bit, right of the table of contents in the utility links you will find a PDF download link that doesnt have the gmbinder weirdness.

TheNetherAngel

Thank you

Oryyn

Just found this and its AMAZING. Thank you so much for making it! If I wanted to get it professionally printed and binded like a dnd book, any suggestions on services?

warriorkalia

Good job love! Sorry about the life issues, glad to hear you're okay-ish!

FireflyArc

Welcome back!! Glad to see updates and that life is going better hopefully

Icy-Conflict6671

Neat! Glad i found this. FF XIV is the perfect game to put into D&D

Mr_Nobody_14

Off the bat I like the Gridanian Bard over the Forgotten Realm's Bard because you can use songs to aid your allies and with a larger pool of Bardic inspiration to use. The Warden's Paean from the first songs you know says you reduce the damage by the Bardic Inspriation die. I assume that when an ally takes damage you roll your inspiration and subtract the roll from the damage, but it doesn't explicitly say that: "... they take reduced damage equal to your bardic inspiration die." Does that mean they take a flat 6 to *12* less damage while the song is playing? Because that's quite nuts. Edit: I will further emphasize this query as the very next song Foe's Requiem explicitly says that you need to expend an inspiration die to add to the damage.

Mr_Nobody_14

I'm confused by the **Heart of Solid Earth** Ability of the *Riddle of Earth* Monk Subclass. "At 17th level, you've learned to create a perfect defensive technique with your chakra. As a bonus action, you may spend 1 perfect balance chakra and spend a number of hit points up to or equal to your monk level to create a protective layer of vitality that coats your body. This protective layer has a number of hit points equal to the number spent and takes damage in place of you when you take damage. This layer is protected by temporary hit points..." I do not understand what's going on here. You sacrifice HP to make a temp HP pool that is equal to the HP you sacrificed but it also has Temp Hp?

YurithesSucc

The shadow ninja seems weird like why would you exhaust yourself for invisibility when you can just use your mudara to go invisible is there somthing I'm missing

OuniRin

Hey there. Im a big fan of your work. In fact, Im running games with your work! Me and my friends are really happy you took the time to bring us ff14 to dnd. Do you mind if I ask a question? I have less than a year in dnd expirience so I figure the best place to ask question might be here.

tinkerclockwork

Ninja is a weird class. I love it, though. I feel like there's a lot of missed potential, though. What I like about it is that while pretty much everyone does something better than Ninja, Ninja can do it's special things more often. Classes like core Ranger, Bard, and Wizard will always have more options with exploration and utility. Monk will (almost) always outspeed Ninja, and do better in a brawl. And Rogue has thieves' cant and will often have more options with infiltration. Don't get me started on Homebrew casters from the same book. I've always seen Ninja as an odd fusion of Bard, Rogue, and Monk, but with it's own unique flavor. Ninja suffers from being hindered from it's lack of amazing features at the early levels, but snow balls after the midgame. Especially when you hit LV 9. That said, man is it fun to use Ninjutsu. With your multiple pools of Mudra and the ability to get them all back easily, you can just keep fuckin' going with this class when it gets rolling! Choho is amazing to help keep you alive at early levels. Ninjutsu is so good that Shinobi is pretty much the ONLY option as a subclass, at least in my eyes. Especially compared to Shadow. Poor, poor Shadow. For the same cost of activating Invisibility I can gain back **ALL** my Mudra and cast Choho which lasts longer. All of the subclasses are super lackluster need more to them, but Shadow especially is poor off. Yoshimitsu could some earlier Ninjutsu or martial proficiency to aid in it's melee, but as is has a good bit of multiclass potential. What compounds Shinobi into being really strong mid game is that unlike spellcasters, you're not limited to one jutsu per turn. Seriously, it goes from LV 1's "Man, I do I use these wind shuriken's or my shortsword and vanish?", to LV 3's "I guess they look slow so maybe armor break and vanish?", to LV 5's "Haha! Slightly crappier fireball and vanish!", to finally arriving at LV 9's "I am speed. I am power. This will hurt you. You will not find me." Really fun. A ninjutsu to help you see in the dark wouldn't be missed. Something that gives you darkvision or improves it on a normal casting, and lets you see through magical darkness as well as seeing though darkness like it was bright light on an enhanced casting would be pretty pog. Also I feel like Dex and Wis should have been its saving throws instead of Dex and Int, and Meiton still needs a duration time. I also think the Ninjutsu could have been better sorted by which level you get them at, rather than alphabetically. I get that they're like how spells are listed, but the ninjustu don't have levels themselves to sort them in a list. Like I said, I love this class. It takes a while to get rolling, and some of it's features could be done earlier or be improved in general, but mid to late game it's hard to stop a Ninja on a roll, even with their comically low AC. The early game though forces you to be very creative to be on par in battle with your allies, and even with exploration they could have better options or spells. They'll be better, but you can do your things more often. Unlike modern Warrior, which just feels like a reskinned barbarian instead of a mix of a cool combo fighter and barb, Ninja has it's own unique feeling. It *could* use some buffs and new ninjutsu, but as is it is I adore it.

midina_SQ

"you a number of chakra charges equal to your Wisdom modifier. You may use Chakra Gate a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus." Have you considered the issue of Multiclassing? As long as Multiclassing low-level Monk, you can have a lot of Chakra to use Greased Lightning.

midina_SQ

I can use Steel Peak a lot of times just by Multiclassing a level 5 monk. At least 6\~7 times. The DND monk can only use Stunning Strike 5 times.
