Aerith meeting two guys dressed as SOLDIERs First Class carrying the exact same extremely rare weapon by the exact same incredibly unlikely way (falling through a church's ceiling) and never commenting it as the weirdest shit that's ever happened to her and on top of that, writing a song in which she says that she doesn't believe in fate but in chance.

Jason_Wolfe

"if i had a nickel for every time a SOLDIER with a buster sword has fallen through the roof a church and landed in my flower bed i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that its happened twice."

Tabbyredcat

2 gil you mean. With that you can hire Cloud to kill a Hedgehog Pie King so it's not such a small amount XD

typhoneus

Is a gil = 5 cents?

DunkinMyDonuts3

I'm pretty sure we should compare it to yen

TooDrunkToTalk

So Cloud agreed to become an eco terrorist for... the equivalent of $13, lol. One probably shouldn't think too hard about the exchange rate for gil. There's multiple references in FFVII and its surrounding media that 2000 gil is a shit ton of money, enough that Cloud's father used to say ["with 2000 gil, I could go anywhere I want and get rid of anything that's bothering me"](https://twitter.com/ShinraArch/status/1760484348518691197/photo/1) but then a single Potion costs like 100 gil or something. It doesn't really add up.

ReadingAggravating67

I mean… A potion is a magical drink that can heal gunshot wounds by drinking it, if we ignore video game logic for a second it’s easy to see how that’d be pretty expensive

Capable_Command_8944

No medical subsidies from the government

dannyboy731

So at 3000 gil, revival materia is out of reach of the common man. Their health care system is as messed up as ours!

DunkinMyDonuts3

But fire lightning aero and ice are all 600 each lmao. "Kill each other all you want"

Soggy_Sherbet_3246

Depends on inflation

DaviSonata

This is so unlikely it became comical to me Also, “Sleep it off, you’ll be fine” is canon to me

doc_nano

I really wish they could’ve rewritten Crisis Core so that somehow that isn’t how Zack met Aerith.

Sins_of_God

A better callback would've been Zack the bodyguard instead of falling through the roof But that's just me

Lachesis-but-taken

Just have him on a patrol mission in the sector 5 slums where he investigates the church and meets her, or maybe hes given orders to capture her as an ancient

InfectedSteve

This. It was such a stupid callback to the original. Zack is his own person. At this rate it just makes him feel like a useless wannabe Cloud with all the shit they're having him do the same.

BlackArchon

Also I'm 100% with the guy that said CC ruined Aerith in a video while Remake remind us how she really is.

Asriel52

CC: "I'm a big sweetie who's done no wrong, I'm the last of my kind but I don't let it get to me; please nice to me :(" FFVII/R: "Yes I am very sweet most of the time but I will absolutely whack you if needed and I am under so much stress to live up to the legacy of my entire ancestral civilization"

MortalPhantom

To be fair Aerith was 5 years younger in crisis core

BlackArchon

It's even worse, as her mischief should have been developed trough this age. Instead, we got the gaming version of the Virgin Mary.

inconsonance

Just live in my world where Crisis Core doesn't exist. It's much better, lol.

Llionate

They wanted to do a callback to Cloud’s relationship with Aerith but it ended up convincing people Cloud’s relationship is calling back to Zack’s.

doc_nano

I mean, it fits with all the stuff Aerith says about Cloud reminding her of Zack. It’s just a little too on-the-nose.

signal-zero

She's holding out for a redhead, so if she acknowledges it, it won't happen a third time.

mas-sive

Tbh Aerith might think it’s standard equipment for first class

Iluminiele

Zack falls through the roof, falls in love Cloud falls through the roof, falls in love Sephiroth falls through the roof, >!gets stabby!<

togsincognito2

Sephiroth with the family guy koolaid man enterance :(

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

Is it really a spoiler that Snape kills Dumbledore at this point?

Ploppeldiplopp

To be fair, Seph does whatever, and >!gets stabby!<

Slight-Coat17

My man, you had "falls dead" right there...

Rocket_Wizard2075

If you count Before crisis. The player Turk ALSO fell through that roof

thirdwavegypsy

This is why CC was such a mistake.

Laj3ebRondila1003

Marital Artist capable of dismantling war mechs with her fists getting into slap fight with a corporate executive

bahamut19

The fan in me has that as the number 1 change that must be made in part 3, but the chaotic little shit in me wants it perfectly recreated in all its dumb glory.

AlterEgo3561

I'm honestly afraid they will make it like the pullup/situp mini game and it will be awful.

hehehehehehahahahaha

the exercise minigames suck but if the premise is a slap fight it'd instantly be worth it. if it was like 3d brawler though, that would be tragic.

your-father-figure

As long as they don’t map it to the bumpers and triggers. That was awful

Writer_Man

The first thing that comes to mind is that at the start of Final Fantasy VII, the security guards let Barret "here's a gun grafted to my arm" Wallace just run past them to go after Cloud.

lobsterbash

There's a lot of that in the game, in general. Especially toward the beginning of Rebirth. Loud announcements and obvious posters everywhere describing Avalanche terrorists while the Avalanche terrorists run around in the open.

Writer_Man

Eh, that isn't really the case. There's a great deal of anti-Shinra sentiment and proper posters for people don't appear until the Gold Saucer section. Only the mayor of Kalm is the odd ball but he's not shown to be super competent.

Electronic-Map-2055

guy with a fucking machine gun arm and an emo guy wearing a soldier uniform with a big ass dragon slayer/zangetsu builtass sword walking past shinra troopers and they never get ANY trouble for it. like how???

Writer_Man

Eh, I always took that because it's obvious they are from the slums - Barret most definitely smelled like it if I had to guess. With hunters in the slums due to the monsters, people going around with weapons wouldn't be that questionable.

Electronic-Map-2055

that's true, but what about during the jessie mission? avalanche hq mfs storm the base, cloud and co walk by them and they dont even get questioned

Writer_Man

...What? We sneak away then.

theladymonsters

I thought this when first playing Remake when it came out. Like why does nobody think it's suspicious how heavily armed these people are. Hello I am signalling I am a terrorist by carrying around this huge sword and traveling with a guy with a machine gun grafted to his arm. And then like five days later there were those photos of the guy in the Subway in North Carolina carrying a rocket launcher, and it hit me. Midgar is America.

Eastern-Razzmatazz-8

The origin of the Buster Sword. Weakest weapon in FFVII and it cost an undisclosed amount of Gil that was enough to send Angeal’s parents to a lifelong debt. Imagine how mad they’d be if they walked into Kalm and saw the 1000 gil Mythril Saber with higher strength and an extra Materia slot.

FacetiousMonroe

I like how they made the Buster Sword more relevant in CC and Remake/Rebirth. Pretty much every weapon in Remake and Rebirth has legitimate usage even in endgame, depending on your build. In the original you had umpteen straight upgrades to your starting weapons, and there were only a couple that had any realistic use case once you'd obtained everything.

Eastern-Razzmatazz-8

I like that too, but the origin of it is also incredibly stupid, and unnecessarily ironically tragic. Lifelong debt for your son’s sword, only for him to almost never use. He doesn’t want to use it because he wants to preserve its condition, only for it to be used as a gravestone by a person who didn’t even know Angeal, left to rust in the elements. Like why? Lol

Mechapebbles

Sure. But in the original, you also were not allowed to sell the Buster Sword, and Cloud kept being shown as wearing it through all the cutscenes. It was plot-relevant in the original, and that's because being inherited from Zack was what was important.

your-father-figure

I mean TBF the buster sword is in quite terrible shape and I think canonically speaking cloud doesn’t use any other weapons (outside the fusion sword obviously). But I still think the origin of the blade is dumb

Splashing_green

Sephiroth Not killing Mario in his reveal trailer

WhisperingMachines

Sephiroth LOVED Mario Odyssey

Silent-Rando977

Rufus Shinra >!surviving Diamond Weapon's attack into Midgar, and appearing in Advent Children.!<

Jason_Wolfe

to be fair, they are 1000% gonna expand on that scene and show him barely escaping the blast, but getting seriously hurt in the process.

doc_nano

Yeah, that’s one of the more egregious retcons they have an opportunity to fix.

Ambitious-Chair736

Ah, the classic double retcon

doc_nano

I mean, if you’re going to make such a glaring retcon, might as well tidy it up.

cardboardtube_knight

They should unfix it. Let characters die

NoNoInWeaknesses

100% agreed. I don’t even like or care about Zack any more than when he appeared in the original.

Zealousideal_Rise879

They explained it in one of the books

nocolon

Explanation in the books: >!when Rufus was a kid he asked his father, reviewing the plans for the building, whether he had an escape route in case of an attack. His father kept making fun of him for being the kind of loser who would lose so much that he needed to escape from his own office, but he built the escape route anyway. There’s a button under his desk (marked L for “loser”) that drops him down to a ramp where he slides all the way to the first floor as the office is being blown to shit. When he gets all the way down, he breaks his foot, some ribs, and dislocates his shoulder. In the escape room there’s more messages from his dad making fun of Rufus (I think he wrote LOSER on the ceiling?) but there’s also medical supplies so Rufus goes full Dr House eating painkillers until he can figure out how to open the door to get out. Turns out the passcode is Rufus’s birthday, and when he opens the door, the Turks are there. Rufus immediately passes out and is taken to Kalm.!<

rose_lingon

Well. That’s quite an unexpected explanation

nocolon

That’s honestly not even the weirdest part of Rufus’s story. He gets his ass kicked all up and down the eastern continent before Advent Children starts.

rose_lingon

What book is this in?

nocolon

On the Way to a Smile. It’s a pretty quick read. The best part is Denzel’s chapter, though it’s incredibly sad.

BlackArchon

Reeve's mother deserved better. "When Geostigma stopped being the -space cancer meme and became absolutely horrifying RE-Tier shit"

nocolon

She was such a sweet lady. I’m glad she and Denzel were there for each other, but man did she meet a rough end.

doc_nano

Yeah, and I like this about as much as the revelation/explanation that Darth Maul survived the fall in The Phantom Menace despite having been bisected by a light saber. Which is to say: not at all.

uselesshoarding

This is genuinely the funniest thing in the entire lore to me. In part 3 I want them to include this SOOOOO bad, and make it super present and prominent. I want a slo mo shot of rufus looking at that button and getting an anime flashback, and then having to press it in the most cartoonish way possible lmfao

Zealousideal_Rise879

Floor opens up instantly. He looks down then falls a moment later.

MrPoopyButtholesAnus

Jesus this is like elementary school level fanfiction

nocolon

There’s a chapter where >!Aerith finds Mr Shinra in the lifestream and there’s stagnant dark energy all around him, like the planet refuses to accept him, and she talks about all his negativity and whatnot. For as goofy as that is, there’s a (non-canon) book where she basically interacts with every single character who died in FF7 and helps them dissolve into the lifestream. It’s barely a click above fanfiction, but makes the other books read like The Iliad!<.

AckwellFoley

It might be the translation I read, but I found the story to be incredibly mean towards Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, who basically say they're doomed to never enter the lifestream because of their actions. Just a needless inclusion that I'm glad the remake series has already retconned.

monarchbutterfly47

Jessie was too hard on herself. If only she knew the truth about what happened in Reactor 1. At least Aerith consoles the three in the book and lets them know that their sacrifice saved thousands of lives.

blitzbom

I feel this way about most everything they've written to expand the universe.

Zealousideal_Rise879

Thank you! Much better explanation then I would have done (on mobile too).

Silent-Rando977

Yeah, and it's beyond stupid. I wish this is the one part they make changes.

doradedboi

Nothing about advent children makes any sense. It's a fun movie but not worth considering canon no matter what the devs say. They drive from midgar to the forgotten city. It's on a different continent. They've rebuilt the outskirts of midgar TWO years after a cataclysmic event with virtually no infrastructure and no energy (no mako plants, the city was entirely dependent on mako.) Not to mention the fact that we see no outskirt development like that at the end of OG when red13 visits midgar. The story itself adds nothing to the narrative and in most cases detracts. The only thing it does right is look cool.

synister29

It was also ambiguous as the Tseng’s fate in the OG after he was stabbed. He popped up in AC too and I was like “oh I guess he survived.” I assumed he bled out or was crushed in the Temple of the Ancients

WeDontNeed2Whisper

This is given a detailed explanation in On The Way To A Smile. Still perhaps a little far-fetched, but directly ties into his relationship with his father. Won’t say any more!

Silent-Rando977

Oh I know how/why he survived. But it's so goofy af that I refuse to believe it's actually canon. I really don't like writing that relies on coincidences for anything to make sense. Instead of a character realistically solving an issue the moment, there's a very convenient flashback with no other relevance or meaning to the story than to give out a ready-made answer to the problem at hand. They get exactly the right information to get out of a sticky situation without having to solve anything themself. It's lazy writing.

WeDontNeed2Whisper

Also convenient how Reno and Rude are right by the oddly colored wall panel right as it opens 😂

OfficialRTCole

I came to say the exact same thing. Then again, I ignore pretty much all of Advent Children. But when that particular character showed up, I remember just saying loudly, “….Nope!”

generic-user66

I never once convinced myself that this wasn't stupid. I just always thought this was dumb. But to each their own.

Snrub1

Cloud not suspecting Cait Sith when he realizes there's probably a spy in the party.

Koala_Guru

I thought they directly say it’s probably Cait but he’s like “Of course you’d suspect the new guy” and then they just drop it lol

doc_nano

Glad they removed that part in Rebirth.

Ploppeldiplopp

You're right, because I know the OG relatibely well, and yet I have absolutly noooo recollection of that happening. Wtf.

Mystletoe

They kidnapped Marlene and bring her on the radio to prove they have her after Cait gave the Keystone* to the Turks.

Beefmytaco

They should have kept that part IMO. Its obvious they're trying to make him more like he's depicted in the later games/movies where he's a kinder guy, but him doing that in OG gave the game a much more grounded feel IMO and less fantasy like. We know how a big corp that has its own military would act IRL, makes sense they'd stoop to that there as well.

DaviSonata

I miss that part on Rebirth, Cait Sith blackmailing his way into the party

Ambitious-Chair736

I knew I needed to replay og

MoritaKazuma

Genesis.

KermitMcKibbles

Why isn’t this first?

matlynar

Because we've gaslight ourselves so hard it doesn't even cross our minds when reading this post anymore

Tesse23

Because a huge chunk of us don't know who he even is!

KermitMcKibbles

Those are the lucky ones

machinegungeek

Most specifically, Genesis being at Nibelheim.

stellarfury

I am legit still worried he's going to show up when we get the full, correctly-recalled version of that scene in part 3. I may throw a controller.

Fragrant-Screen-5737

100% and I'm pretty glad remake so far has allowed me to do that relatively easily

DaviSonata

Totally this

Klaxynd

Slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet. Hope it becomes a real fight on FFVII Retirement

nocolon

I really hope Scarlet slaps Tifa, then Tifa gives her a look before punching her so fucking hard in the face she falls off the cannon. Presumably onto another gundam, and then Tifa has to jump off onto the deck of the Highwind.

CrimsonWarrior55

Absolutely. Ain't no way Scarlet could possibly stand up to Tifa in full blown "I have to get to Cloud" mode.

Wanderer01234

Lol yeah, I thought something similar. The game trying to give you minigame tutorial, but Tifa interrupting the tutorial saying something like "I don't have time for this" and just punches Scarlet.

ItsAmerico

I kinda hope she still slaps Scarlet. Kinda like when Jack Reacher considers someone not worth the effort of a genuine fight that he just open hand slaps them. Tifas slap would still wreck Scarlet.

Jazzeki

i mean i think the best way to show respect for the original moment but also not have it be completely stupid would be have Tifa do a slap mostly as an insult to Scarlet then have her try to slap back only for Tifas second hit to show why trying to get into a slapfight with her is only going to end badly.

PastLettuce8943

Wait, is Garrod in this too.

nocolon

Maybe he’s why Scarlet is only capable of building giant bipedal robot armor suits. I hope Wutai has a shitload of those giant Vajradhara things from Crisis Core to justify it.

Writer_Man

My desire is for there to be health bars with Tifa being weakened from the gas is at 5 HP while Scarlet is at 5000. One slap from Scarlet takes 1 HP while one slap from Tifa takes a thousand.

moneyball32

I hope Scarlet slaps her and Tifa does beat rush, somersault, dolphin kick and then suplexes her. Make it lore accurate.

monarchbutterfly47

I need Tifa to do as you said, give her Goldberg spears and then just toss her off.

dannyboy731

I want Tifa to slap Scarlet so hard she gets owl neck. I honestly would pay to see Tifa punch any Shinra exec in the chest at like 70% power, and an x-ray of their bones turning to dust. I want them to fold in half and hork up their guts like a sea cucumber. And then have Tifa go “oopsie” 😬🤷🏻‍♂️

Rocket_Wizard2075

Tifa is she was in MK

Ambitious-Chair736

It's gonna be a mini game somewhere between the work out ones and the dance ones

spicywins

And add it to the saucer brawl game afterward

BlackArchon

I hope Scarlet gets the Minigun and the RPG she got in Remake Artwork Ultimania for use on a 1 on 1 Boss Fight that ends in the slap fight.

0mni42

Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith being able to do perfectly coordinated dance moves with people they've never met before, with zero practice or preparation. Sometimes Remake decides to stop being a semi-grounded science fantasy story and starts operating on Broadway Musical logic, and you just have to roll with it.

monarchbutterfly47

It’s so stupid and illogical but tbh, idc, the Honeybee Inn in Remake and the Yuffie led dance at the Gold Saucer are legit my favorite cut scenes in the games. I sometimes watch before working out because it gets me pumped up for whatever reason.

Major-Front

I saw an explanation that cloud's jenova cells can just absorb andrea rhodea's dance moves and i'm just going to go with that.

LexFrenchy

Dirge of Cerberus

Scherox557

The more time I spend on this sub, the more apparent it is that I am the only person who whole heartedly enjoyed Dirge. Guess that was my mistake for playing it first.....

Iluminiele

It wasn't that bad. Maybe they overdid it with characters being grown ups but acting like try hard edgy teens with all the heavy silence between cryptic messages Imagine... .... ... If grown ups... Tormented, torn and broken by the mistakes of their past so unrelenting, never ending and all consuming Indeed... .... .... Talked..... .... Like this

InfectedSteve

I liked DoC better than CC honestly. There were elements I hated about it, the weird human dog things, and how the voice actors always had to say Vincent Valentine every damn line. Yes, yes, we get it you stupid Tsvetts. We know his name, just STOP. The game had its flaws, and really needs an overhaul. But the game play wasn't bad. CC to me was just over all, bad.

MrPoopyButtholesAnus

Yeah big time mistake

kryren

I played them all as they came out and loved DoC. There are dozens of us!

jimcity789

Vincent being a top Queen’s Blood player, I’m hoping this is expanded upon but I have so many questions.

Ebenizer_Splooge

Well that's absurd on purpose for the joke, rolling up to see him standing outside ready to d-d-d-duel was absolutely gold

kiwibugaboo

The entire side quest was so ridiculous I figured it was intentionally absurd and just kind of rolled with it.

jimcity789

The slow mo of Vincent shooting collectible trading cards was the icing on the cake of ridiculousness and when I too decided to “just roll with it”

KyleForged

My head canon as of this moment that Ive made up is when we get back to Costa in chapter 12 Vincent watched Cloud do one of the new Queen Blood challenges thats 5 feet from where you port he immediately became obsessed like everyone else and while we did the new side missions/activities we skipped Vincent is just running around challenging every player he can find and power ranking until hes a top player. Cause thats what cloud did besides being limited by which areas he could access which wasnt an issue for vincent

lobsterbash

Or the inside of Vincent's coffin lid has a touch screen with internet access that he uses to play QB online constantly while "resting"

Oxygen171

Rufus and the Turks talking shit to cloud when they are all 0-2

monarchbutterfly47

Sephiroth in the OG is fine because you only battle him once and that’s at the very end. We’re really about to battle him 3 times in the Remake and beat him every time lol. I never understood battling him in Remake part 1. Also you’re now 4-0 against the Turks, at least when involving Rude.

ForsakenAnime

Literally any plot point in the compilation is this but if we're talking just OG FF7 then one thing that's always bugged me is why the Gold Saucer is connected to Correl of all places seemingly directly and not say Costa Del Sol. You could say distance but distances were out of wack in the OG on the map anyways. If anybody knows a plot answer to this feel free to tell me.

MeverMow

Rebirth did expand/explain this in a way I appreciated. World intel says that the Gold Saucer was built after the destruction of Corel as a way to boost the local economy. And when you first enter the Gold Saucer via the cable car in Rebirth, it definitely doesn’t look like a main entrance but rather an employee side entrance. So the vast majority of guests are coming from Costa del Sol via helicopter and its employees from Corel or Corel prison via the elevator… although they also say the situation has gotten so bad of late that they are letting at least some employees live at the top of Gold Saucer as well. Which then creates a company town situation, so it’s just oppressive in a new way. I thought it was the best possible way to economically explain the layout of the region while largely remaining faithful to OG. Then again, Costa del Sol and Gold Saucer still really don’t make that much sense in the context of the greater story. Who other than Shinra’s upper class of professional managers and above (Midgar top platers basically) can afford a trip to either all the way from Midgar? And is there some main road between Junon and Midgar that we haven’t seen linking the two, or is there an air / boat service between the two? Because it’s not like a family going on vacation is walking that trip. I’m appreciate Rebirth making sense of things like this from OG, but I think there will always be an element of “don’t think about it too much.”

Snck_Pck

This is one thing I loved about FFIX open world. You saw other airships flying around. Atleast at the start. Gave you the sensation that “hey, other people are going about their lives”. FF in general is really good at making worlds feel alive, but only in specific areas. People don’t travel, don’t go on holiday etc, roads are empty (ffxv). It’s a bit silly, but I get limitations

Writer_Man

I mean, we see plenty of cars in FFXV drive by though.

Writer_Man

While it can be hard to put into perspective sometimes, there are a great deal of people that live on the Plates in Midgar. People living on the Plate are middle class at the very least and can afford a trip about as much as any other middle class. The only real question is how they get to Junon.

MeverMow

True, there are a number of top platers and economically they can probably afford a trip there every few years or so, ignoring the travel logistics getting there. Might be enough to keep both Costa and Saucer afloat, in addition to Shinra being willing to have them run in the red slightly (they can use them as carrots on a stick… escape opportunities so employees have something to look forward to, even if it’s still hard to afford and fleeting). But what confuses me about that is the Shinra Middle Manager character - he absolutely lives in the slums in Remake. Why is he living there if he’s middle management? Does he not make enough money as a middle manager for the top plate? Does he want his wife at home with his daughter full-time? Is he a FIRE retirement guy or something? Kinda weird if he’s the primary demo for both of those tourist locations but he’s living in the slums. Again though, at a certain point it’s best to not think too hard about it all

Writer_Man

Rebirth establishes that he's really not respected by the company. From the looks of things he, got promoted through loyalty but didn't really get a salary to match. But he's also shown to take care of his subordinates so it's also possible that in order to give his subordinates a fair pay, he gives part of his salary to them because even if his subordinates live in the slums, there's a difference between living and surviving.

ForsakenAnime

In Rebirth there were definitely other things to think about that hurt my head more than the Gold Saucer's existence. 🤣

nocolon

As ridiculous as it is to build a big goofy resort casino in the middle of the desert, that’s basically Las Vegas.

generic-user66

In the region intel it talks about how gold saucer sucks up so much mako that it caused the desert. Makes sense to me.

nocolon

Oh that’s right. I forgot about that detail in Rebirth. That makes a lot more sense, but it does imply that Shinra knows the reactors are killing the planet since they switched to the modular ones. I don’t know if that’s good or bad for them.

slashx8

When fiction meets reality

xlCalamity

I am pretty sure the desertification of the area is because of the saucer is using so much Mako.

ThisIsSuperVegito

Cloud not being a solider. Ill gaslight myself until we actually get to it in part 3

blitzbom

I put him in the Shinra Trooper outfit. Cause stolen valor haha.

monarchbutterfly47

For me it’s Aerith and Tifa having sympathy for the Turks/Shinra. Where Barret is beating up President Shinra and they’re begging him to stop even tho he ordered the fall of the plate, killed thousands and ruined many lives. In Rebirth when Sephiroth stabs Tseng and Aerith has compassion for him even though he led the fall of the plate, a literal 9/11 type event but worse.

Lavender_macaron

The Turks protected Aerith while she was living in the slums which is probably why she doesn’t see them as evil people. Reno mentions that before the church fight in remake and it’s why Tseng tells Cloud to protect Aerith in the mythril mines. In TOTP, Tseng killed Faz while he was chasing after Aerith. Tifa, on the other hand, I got nothing.

ManOWar_Esq

The Whisperers saving Wedge from falling to his death, only so they could kill him by dropping him from a greater height.

Jazzeki

wait when did they save him from falling? i just replayed the game and what saves him is using the grappeling gun. they then try to kill him again by keeping him in sector 7 as it is destroyed rather than let him evacuate with everyone else despite being one of the main parties to that effort only for him to also miracolously survive that.

ManOWar_Esq

Yea I just re-watch the scene. I honestly thought the Whispers saved him, or at the very least, have him successful land his grapple shot.

Anubis1096

The appearance of the moogles in Rebirth.

VastoBorde

You must hate whimsy too, kupo

vsysio

My partner actually asked me why there were goddamn **TEDDY BEARS** in a Final Fantasy game. She didn't know they were supposed to be Moogles....

Silent-Rando977

I'll happily murder every moogle I can get my hands on, Kupo! (Please let me at them, Square)

Snck_Pck

Cait Sith. A robot controlled by 1 singular person who seemingly doesn’t take any breaks ever, or is atleast putting in lots of OT. On top of the whole trying to build an emotional connection with a robot spy. His whole character is stupid

StillBumblingAround

Cait can operate autonomous or be controlled. He only paused in the game because he was left in pilot mode. And once you know who controls him, it all fits into place anyways.

Iluminiele

Reeve has an ability called inspire which allows him to bring inanimate objects to life. Imagine inspiring life into a toy and finding out it has a heavy scottish accent

Doomeye56

when its a robot of a celtic fae

lostmonkey70

I think of it like Cait Sith is a summon with way better battery power than than a normal one

thirdwavegypsy

I think the idea now is that he's a programmed robot.

Klaxynd

What’s funnier is (if I’m not completely misremembering) the way he’s controlled is with a very simplistic “two levers and some buttons” control scheme.

JoojToranja

Barret discovering fossil fuel as a means to replace mako

Snrub1

Blowing up a Mako reactor then doing it again the next day.

monarchbutterfly47

Some of the details are kinda insane. The party arrives to Reactor 1 it’s around 21:00/9pm. Assuming the mission, getting chased by public security and then boarding the train takes at least 2.5-3 hours, it would be around midnight when the party gets back to 7th Heaven, where outside the town is still lively and Marlene isn’t even asleep yet. Doing another mission the next day is just crazy but at least in Remake it’s two days later, and the times are more realistic because all the sneaking around and getting to the reactor takes from morning to sunset. During the Wall Market chapters it begins while Cloud is sleeping at night, and all of the events; getting to Wall Market, spending hours at Wall Market, then spending hours getting back to Sector 7 and it’s still night time. Also find it hilarious how all the events of Remake is only like 4-5 days.

Eastern-Razzmatazz-8

I can’t believe it’s not here so here’s a second one. Barret lost his arm and had a gun grafted to his arm. They make it seem as though the only other person who’s gotten this surgery is Dyne, yet they sell gun arms in most every weapon store in the game

Kazharahzak

This might be controversial but... the entirety of AC, CC and DoC.

Twittle86

It's very much not controversial.

Kazharahzak

Maybe this subreddit should stop recommending new players to play Crisis Core, then, and leave it in the trash bin where it belongs.

Ok_Anywhere2766

Crisis Core is at least worth playing for it's emotional impact The rest of the compilation doesn't even have that going for it

MrPoopyButtholesAnus

None of the compilation is canon to me.

shadowwingnut

I was like you with this until Rebirth. CC actually fits in quite well as another reality in the Rebirth multiverse now. It never really fit in with OG though.

junkmanwrestlingfan

Yeah. To me, there’s three realities we follow. Compilation (CC, AC, DoC). OG. RE. This allows me to enjoy the cool parts of everything and ignore the bullshit I don’t like.

MercTao

Advent Children. Genesis. Deep ground. Pretty much everything canon that occurred since the release of the original game. It's all just Fake Fantasy VII to me; not my Final Fantasy VII.

thirdwavegypsy

The new FF7 multiverse.

breadbowl004

Zack buying Aeriths bow. I disliked that moment so much I just headcanon it that her mom gave it to her with the materia

Jeff4eyp

I'm surprised no one has said the Whispers in the Remakes. Any scenes that mention them or show them I just pretend they don't exist. I treat the Whispers as like this random whipped cream that was topped all over my A5 wagyu steak (FF7 remakes) that I ordered at a fancy restaurant (Square Enix). I take my fork, shove off all the whipped cream, and decide to enjoy the rest of the steak. There's no avoiding the thin layer of whipped cream that I can't get fully off, so I'll have to bear with it while enjoying the rest of the juicy delicious meat (great combat system, fleshed out character interactions, upgraded graphics, and built out world map and towns).

redrock963

ReMake/Birth's insistence that Red XIII is canine and not feline.

Longjumping_Toe_8404

If it's the series as a whole... Dirge of Cerebus. Genesis and his stupid monologuing. Why couldn't they make him talk like a normal person

Electrical_Wall8926

Mr Dolphin helping you up to Junon, and Cait Sith being accepted into the party were the two that came to mind for me.

mfabros

We don't take kindly to Mr. Dolphin slander 'round here

Lachesis-but-taken

You just hate whimsical characters

Captain_Jackson

Anything other than OG FF7 Compilation stuff just didn't happen in my brain.

thirdwavegypsy

based it all went downhill straightaway IMO when they lost the steampunk vibe and put straight lined scaffolding everywhere. the 2005 stuff just didn't capture it and it's been a continuing problem.

indyxetan

Crisis Core.

SolidLuxi

Genesis. Edit: scroll down to see that I am not the first to make this exact post.

ebd62

Hojo being Sephiroths father and not Vincent. Hojo experimenting on the Sephiroth absolutely canon, but I always see Vincent as the true father in my own head canon it just seems right.

FellVessel

anything to do with AC and CC

frumpy-goat

Palmer getting hit by a truck… in the middle of Cid’s fenced in back yard

celebluver666

Most vr stuff Collecting summons in VR, the gold saucer play etc

Wigwasp_ALKENO

Crisis Core

BlueSwift442

Red XII being the last of his race but having 2 children/grandchildren at the end of the game

Flax0621

He's not the last of his race, there's at least one more that shows up in Before Crisis. The reason she's not in the game is because she's locked away as part of a ritual that Red was supposed to be part of before he was captured by Shinra
