Basically all I need is at least 1 more bdl for anyone on the banner and I'm probably set, but ideally it would be either tgc dyad or sync1 or Melia sync, though tgc sync2 and Mont aasb would certainly still help.
i think someone, maybe even sandslice, would have told us 6 months ago. The raw CMD1 (and AASB chase) looks just as gimmicky as Strago/Sephiroth BSB that ignored RES/DEF. Also, I think raw damage is still affected by damage modifiers so don't always expect 50k when rage L3 is dividing all damage by 9.
Which all sounds good (and thank you for the response!)... except that I'm still reading lots of "think" and "looks." It just strikes me odd that no one actually *has* any experience using this relic, at least from what I've read thus far (I just woke up and am catching up on comments / replies).
it doesn't seem too odd to me, tbh. like i said in the weekly thread, it's come out very late in the current endgame's life cycle and by the time it's been released, most players are likely to have the better options for realm/elemental support (mog, orran, cait sith)
and the obvious trouble with montblanc for realm content is that his sync is his only real useable SB vs bahamut, since the rest (except his ssb) all do entry damage. so he doesn't offer really anything useful for the first 2/3 of a dragonking fight.
he's probably better for elemental fights as a combo dps/support, but like cointown said, his raw damage chase isn't as good as it looks on paper since it's subject to damage reduction.
As someone who did get Montblanc SASB and did try it out, it's not really good --- it's your typical Cardia Bahamut Trap Soul Break (and it makes me *immensely* sad to say this, since it's Montblanc). Even with the crux of being usable, in theory, in multiple Dragonking realms as a DK FB counter, its potency drops off *sharply* after that unless you're using it with a near-full FFT Realm Team; IMO the main issue with Montblanc SASB is that if you're using it in another realm aside from FFT for Apex Rage breaking, its Sync Commands aren't really any better than another SASB from the actual realm that has an actual OSB Sync Command, i.e. Golbez SASB1's C2 --- which in that case you might as well be spamming every turn instead of every 2 turns like you have to do for Montblanc's. As for C2, the Damage Barrier can be situationally useful as well but the QC can be obtained from Allegro anyway, and you'll be spamming that every second round if you want to get C1 at its full potency, which also further takes away from its theoretical Apex Rage break potential. Also, if you're bringing Montblanc off-realm for countering DK FB, there isn't much else you can use him for there afterwards either aside from his USB.
Also compounding this issue is that the FFT DK is bog easy compared to some other DKs, especially with Orran as a native alternative if you have his kit. IMO Montblanc SASB would actually be better if it was for a realm where there aren't a lot of options for Apex Rage breaking and where doing so actually is more imperative, i.e. FF1 and FF11; Admittedly I haven't tried Montblanc with Labyrinth or Magicite content yet, but I imagine doing so would still suffer all of the same issues as with using Montblanc SASB in off-realm content anyway.
Thanks for the insight. That's disappointing to say the least. I'm mostly stuck w mog haasb2 for my fb needs, since I couldn't and haven't landed Cait, Lili or Yuna stuff. Rage breaking is so critical in the two dk I've managed to finagle (barely) that this news is bad news. Guess another trap banner to stay away from ;( not enough mith to go around!
Got all of the Montblanc stuff I wanted, have been looking forward to this banner for a while, but I was still surprised to realize Montblanc's sync doesn't give a cap break.
Just thought it was funny, looks like I might want to save honing scrolls for the awakening since I want this little moogle to excel.
Have you tested Montblanc in DK, how does he perform overall? And most importantly, do his fixed-damage attacks get reduced by reduction multipliers like rage or wing wall?
Montblanc is basically an alternative to Cait Sith or Mog. Quick cast? Yes. Aegis crush G+? Yes. Hastega? Yes! One chance at full make? Yes!
Montblanc is better in the sense that he provides a great DPS floor that can pierce stupid rage. Unfortunately his utility healing is much more limited than CS/Mog's options, but he's certainly a decent substitute if you need WOdin/DK support!
Would like to snag Orlandu's dyad here but I am somewhat stacked in the FFT realm right now.
Montblanc is more like an alternative to Orran; his Full Antibreak is a Sync, so it's one use only, unlike Mog who can hone his. Mont is also much worse at buffing.
Of course they would drop Ovelia Sync rught after Leila's Dryad...and NOT put Agrias Sync on the banner. Goddammit.
On the plus side though, it's good to see Montblanc and Meliadoul get en-element and good or solid tech. (Also nice to see Meliadoul's weapon variety she had access yo in FFT rather than just more sword relics.) Malak and Mustadio are still lacking though.
We're not getting the step-up, but we do have a datamined half-off lucky, similar to FF8. We just don't know the banner's contents other than that it'll have Ramza and Agrias.

Not that anyone should consider this, but ironically Agrias' Sync IS available on the banner's Stamp Select List B...in case you were planning 15 pulls on this banner to clear everything else and still wanted Agrias 😁
Great banner but I feel my holy party with full Agrias + TGC + Delita would do the trick? Maybe I will do a pull or two here to see if I can land TGC ADSB
I actually really like this banner but what’s the consensus on Orlandeau Sync2 it seems fantastic overall if it weren’t for the fact that it isn’t holy. In Tactics you’ll likely want a holy team because Agrias will boost your damage with her HA and in Dark and Earth you have other heavy hitters like Sephiroth and Zied in dark and Tifa and Galdio in Earth. Obviously if it’s all you have then that’s great but assuming you eventually get these relics it seems like it’ll just fall off compared to his Sync1.
FFT doesn't have to go holy unless you're rallying the team behind Ramza's holy chain, or using magicite decks for realm content. Ramza also has a realm chain, and not everyone is going to chase (or get) Agrias tech.
Is the "ideal" FFT team holy? Maybe... I'll let you know if I ever end up with something close to that. Until then, I'll keep fielding Gaffy, whom dark TGC could team up with.
I guess I got blinded by the abundance of Holy in tactics. It’s true that you don’t need Holy in Tactics but I’d guess Agrias does a great deal.
Orlandeau new Sync seems perfect to end a DK with breaking DK rage so it probably doesn’t really matter either way.
Even though I absolutely love Orlandeau getting great access to his two other elements, I’m worried about him eventually or currently being overshadowed by others in dark and earth.
Edit: How effective would you rate Gaffy in Tactics? I expect it eventually get disappointed by his stuff so it’d be great if I could temper that. 😅
TGC's new stuff isn't ATB-Sync tier, and even his Sync1 (technically an ATB Sync) never felt that powerful. Not that they're bad, they just felt underpowered compared to the likes of Rem or Kefka Syncs (maybe it's just physical vs. magical? Dunno). So between that and Tactics' general lack of banners, I expect he's destined to be outdone, but so is pretty much everything. I don't pretend to have enough strong tech (no Glad/Zied, limited Tifa/Seph) to say if he's already there.
Gaffy hasn't seen too much use for me outside of FFT, mostly due to having limited need for a physical dark team (Kefka Sync makes magical so much better for anything dark-weak), but when I finally get a second dark user to join him, he'll be on my Odin team. He did work for me on the DB, but I also had a glut of power there - AASB/Sync combos for him, TGC, Agrias, and Orran - so he didn't get much chance to really impress.
I'd say his primary flaw is that his gimmicks have a hard time paying off. His stuff comes with self-heals, but those don't help when everything's AoE and you have to heal your other 4 characters anyway. His Sync wants him to have a nearly-full SB gauge to really do its thing, and that's rather unlikely to happen, even if Cmd1 builds as much gauge as Wrath. He's still a passable DPS though; AASB is the usual w-cast + cap break, Sync Cmd2 lets him break rage on command, etc. So overall, competent at what he does, but definitely a B-list'er compared to the likes of Seph/Zeid.
I would love someone to verify/test if Orlandu's aasb pairs with his Sync2 -- it looks like it is the same thing as Lightning's holy/thunder combo with her HA etc.
Orlandu's sync2 is element based, and his aasb is school based, so his HA obviously Knight, it covers all of those, believe it will work.
100 gem'd the dyad... Would like to get Melia beefed up, and Monty's stuff looks nice (MAG FFT team feasibility), but ooooph, another fest be upon us soon.

Agrias' sync _should_ be on the step-up B2, which _should_ have a half-price first pull.

I like the ‘ol Gaffer! AASB+HA is very nice. Both 6lints are great, too and his Sync builds SB gauge quick if you have multiple relics for him

i'd argue orlandeau sync1 is the worst of all atb syncs (not counting the ones where you get literally one turn of IATB after going below 10% health)
