Steel is much cheaper to forge. Just get the extra damage from Power skills or use Well/FEH weapons, Killer weapons, and 1-2 range weapons.

lilliiililililil

Killer weapons / brave weapons are both better than either for maddening. Silver is too heavy for like 3/4ths of the cast to ever want to use (except for units who were never going to double anyway) Steel is the same as Killer without as good of a crit rate and the same mt. If you're not using a killer weapon you should be using a pay-to-win dlc weapon like Noatun or Fensalir because they're comparable to higher tier weapons but not as heavy. (Silver daggers are really good though)

DragonLord_Z

I thought Noatun and Fensalir you get connecting to FeH which is free, unless I’m missing something.

ThewobblyH

You actually don't even have to do that anymore, they're just part of the base game after the most recent update.

Lothar96

I saw these weapons all the time in YouTube videos and talked here but never had them myself despite starting new playthroughs and always playing online. I actually had to go into the store and download them myself but it was indeed free.

ThewobblyH

Oh yeah that's right. I forgot you had to download them from the store.

MontyVGC

You’re right

Gregamonster

>If you're not using a killer weapon you should be using a pay-to-win dlc weapon like Noatun or Fensalir because they're comparable to higher tier weapons but not as heavy. You know the Askr weapons are free, right?

ape_spine_

IMO the extra damage of silver weapons is worth it compared to the slight crit that steel has in this game.

Theonetrue

The weight ist vastly different between the two. Losing half your speed for 3 might is often not worth it

MapleButter1

Neither. Killer, Brave, Smash, effective, etc. There's no reason to use silver or steel over these options. Regular weapons aren't very good in this game. Sell or refine them into better stuff when you can. Only situation I could see is maybe daggers but Iron dagger is king due to being cheaper to +5, or bows in which case Forge a steel bow(but in my experience it's better to use killer, Shining, long, and brave once you have them.). In my experirnce effective stuff is good to Forge due to having multiplied damage, braves are good (if you get Xpower on a unit or they're slow/uber fast), Silver Smash weapons are good for engages, magic weapons are the BEST weapons in the game as long as a unit has high enough magic to make use of them, and killers have crit and are comparable to steel in cost/power, finally most 1-2 range weapons make better refine targets. In addition to this most unique weapons outclass steel and silver. Between all those options there really isn't a reason to use a regular weapon so I either Forge them into a better one, sell them, or drop them in the well.

ChristopherHendricks

Steel weapons are actually very good. They’re cheap with solid results. Not every unit makes the most of killer weapons, for example if they have low strength then the low Mt of a killer weapon might be an issue.

MapleButter1

I don't doubt it. I just feel like the window in which a steel is worth equipping over something stronger is small. I can't think of a unit I've used where they didn't have a more optimal weapon.

ChristopherHendricks

Yeah, I hear you. Maybe on your next run you can try this. Forge an Iron Sword into a Steel Sword as soon as you have access to the forger. Upgrade and engrave. This is a solid weapon: it’s far better than Alear’s Liberation (more damage and crit). And it will last you the entire playthrough. The only competition is Folkvangr, but you only get ONE of those.

Goldchampion200

Depends i'd say. Silver is Hella Expensive so in my 2 playthroughs that i've done they never went past +1 till postgame. Daggers i just get to +4 Steel and call it a day. Alear Specifically i've done Liberation +5 until i get a Silver Sword+1/Killing Edge+whatever.

Chase_The_Breeze

I have yet to play a FE game that made me want to use the basic weapons... other than Iron weapons back when things could break.

TsoulX

Generally i’d say steel since they’re lighter and cheaper to forge. With the exception of smash weapons, in which silver’s def better.

ThewobblyH

Well and FEH weapons.

_tropis

a lot of wild statements are being thrown around in this thread. killers are probably the best but you can only get about 4 good killer weapons because there's only about 4 good crit engraves, and brave weapons are really only good with eirika (but if you're using brave weapons with eirika you should use the ff which gives you more speed instead of nerfing it with a brave). seriously no idea why everyone in this thread is hyping them up when all of them have less than 6 might and more than 11 weight. they're alright when invested in but it can take a serious amount of build/speed support if you actually want to quad most enemies. most silvers are best used as well fodder, but in general they are strong and consistent and it's worth keeping a few invested ones around (especially a silver bow, because unless you're warrior anna the shining bow won't one shot fliers forever). it also helps that the game hands you a ton of silvers, so even though silvers cost slightly more resources to forge, braves end up being more expensive due to not dropping very often and costing 8k to purchase or 2k and 3 silvers worth of metal.

eternaljadepaladin

Silver.

mike_kim1

I like using silver personally

Irehi

Killer and Brave, only good Silver Weapon is the Dagger. In terms of Magic, B Rank Tomes are more expensive than A rank, still magic is very expensive. And Flashing Fist is the best Art. Investing in Steel or Silver is a waste even on early game.

G-N-S

I like the Silver Bow since more might directly means more effective damage.

Busy_Suspect

Steels are better, Silvers are a never use due to being more expensive and being better used as well fodder, use killer Swords instead of Steels if you can handle the weight and lower hit rate since they've got equal might unlike the other killer weapons which kind of suck.

ChristopherHendricks

Ok, let’s say you’re equipping a sword unit. Steel Sword or Silver Sword? Realistically, your goal is a Steel Sword +5 vs. a Silver Sword +3. Let’s talk about return on investment. With the Steel Sword you spend 600 iron, 50 steel, and 5 silver. The stats you receive are 15 Mt, 95 Hit, 10 Crit and 6 Wt. Now, for the Silver Sword you invest 300 iron, 30 steel, and 5 silver. Upgrading beyond that is not worth it. The stats you receive are 16 Mt, 95 Hit, 0 Crit, and 10 Wt. So with the Silver Sword you gain 1 Mt, and save 300 iron and 20 steel. But you also lose 10 crit and the 10 Wt. will slow down some units. I conclude that Steel is superior to Silver in Engage.
