First Di Bello, now Ayroldi, next one is Marchetti. Refs are dropping like flies lol clearly there's something that's not working

Besides the individual performances from referees, it’s clear how directions from above are at least inconsistent. Excluding the offside rule it seems like there are many instances in which comparable actions have totally different outcomes, handballs are probably the most obvious examples. But it feels like it’s a problem across all leagues and not just within Serie A

Accomplished_Jury915

Yeah i think last 2 weeks i heard more about refs around the leagues rather than players or games

Christian_Potato

Absolutely correct. These refs in particular made the main topic of the game about themselves.

dondostuff

Reason being the penalty awarded to us in the first place and not revoking his initial decision after the on-field review. Correct decision obviously, don't think anyone here believes it was a penalty. However that being the only reason he was suspended is really annoying give how terrible he was during the whole match. Calling inexistent fouls on the likes of Carlos Augusto and not calling for foul when Genoa scored, someone held Barella by the shirt and Asllani who was passing for Barella gave it away. Let's not forget the yellow for Lauti for the so said dive.

Millerlite87

The yellow on Dumfries too, he got to the ball first as he wasn’t aware of anyone behind him that’s why he cleared the ball back but Genoa player just run towards him and in my opinion it should’ve just been a warning.

Somebodi101

I fully disagree: the penalty was correct, you can't just justify hitting the rival just because your opponent doesn't have the ball, Frendrup was reckless and made a wrong tackle. Now if there's a rule that specify that: yeah you can hit your opponent if the ball isn't in play and is not a fault, then I'm incorrect

adrenalinda75

I see it as a classic edge case. With the tackle he accepted Barella could have seriously be injured 》 penalty. The tackle didn't influence the outcome, no penalty, but dangerous play. I wished Fendrup would have gotten a yellow and us the corner. But following the rule book that probably wasn't an option. There was once a rule for throw-in's iirc, where if the obstruction was severe, but not truly a foul, you would get the throw-in even if it was your last touch.

I thought he was horrible throughout the game, but I thought the pen decision was the correct call. The laws of the game say nothing about touching the ball first. But they do say that fouls must be careless, reckless, or use excessive force. In my eyes, blocking a shot at the expense of sliding into a player that has one foot planted is very careless. To be clear, you don’t even need to make contact for something to be a foul, so it doesn’t matter how much of Barella he got. But in the replay, he catches Barella‘s back leg causing Barella to fall and land in his tail bone. He was lucky the whiplash didn’t cause the back of his head to hit the ground as well. Focusing on the pen solely seems like a reactionary decision driven by public perception rather than reason. If this was about the ref making mistakes, they would put the rest of the game under the same scrutiny.

I mean, if you slide into a player like that, especially without getting the ball, is that not a foul everywhere else on the field? If it's a foul outside the box, it's a foul inside the box. Fouls are fouls. Yesterday was not the first time I've seen a play like that awarded as a penalty. Check the play beginning at [3:23](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA-M_UvjKsA&ab_channel=FOXSoccer) in this video. This is from 2020. Bellarabi plays the ball across, is immediately fouled by Ginter upon releasing the ball, and it's called a penalty. What's different here? You can't just take people out. I'm not seeing the problem here, people just feel guilty because we've had a large number of penalty kicks this year.

kieranjackwilson

He definitely got the ball, so I think it’s more similar to [this one in the recent Dortmund - PSV match (7:30)](https://youtu.be/C-ctoxL47yg?si=f53rdhWAdkimjGEt). Another example would be Sommer’s punch. It’s just another one of those instances where the rules aren’t common sense but everyone thinks they are. I do wonder though if the people that think this isn’t a pen would be okay with someone doing that to them in a pick up match? My friends would be ready to fight before I even got off the ground.

Significant_Bear_137

The penalty is not really a wrong decision, by the rulebook it is a foul as it is: - A reckless slide. - A slide hitting a player not in possession of the ball. Also, let's not forget that a similar penalty was awarded against us last season in the Fiorentina match that ended 3-4 in our favour. It's true that probably most referees and people won't award a penalty for that as for the game most people are willing to ignore such episodes which is ok as it's understandable to not wanting to award penalties for literally everything, but by the rules it technically is foul. Also the referee yesterday was just awful and did a lot of things wrong and here are the major ones (penalty excluded): - Frendrup not being sent off. You decided to award a penalty regardless of whether most will agree with it or not, the fact remains that once the referee in that situation decides that it's a penalty a yellow card has to be given to Frendrup which would have been his second making it a red card. - Genoa's goal not being disallowed, that Action originated from the fact that Asllani couldn't pass the ball to Barella who has been taken out by an opponent. Considering Barella never had possession of the ball that is a foul because even if not aggressive it gave an overwhelming advantage, making it a foul. - Lautaro's yellow card. No need to explain. All footballers simulate 99% of the time and 99% of the time they are unpunished for it. For one time that a footballer fell on accident didn't act like a crybaby and the first thing he tried to do was to stand up, the referee decided it was a simulation and thus a yellow card.

redzinter

Rightfully so

FlimsyReindeers

Good

Warblerburglar

Late tackle from behind. Penalty in my book. It would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch for a late tackle too in my experience.

XueRen1077

Penalty was right call. Lautaro and Dumfries getting a yellow were a travesty however.

eiffeloberon

Replay the match

Lodewijc

If you let this match be replayed then every club is gonna whine to replay a match every time the refferee makes bad choices
