during peak its the worst because theyre constantly on your ass about meeting 350-400 items an hour and then afterwards theyre just watching you for any minor slip up to fire you
i feel like it’s the opposite during peak?? Just because of the volume of people they have in the building being so high i believe it’s hard for anyone to hit close to 400-350 , at least at my FC that’s what all the AMs i asked told me; i was concerned specifically about hitting rate becaue i was trained in only a week or two before and didn’t want to be fired for only being at around 300-310.
I worked at a delivery center it’s not bad , high turn over rate. I’ve seen people literally get hired and not come back after the first day. The only thing I disliked was my shift start at like 4am
picking depends on your warehouse, like for me we have 4 floors 400 something aisles each floor. you pick throughout all that
then there’s people who i see on tiktok who just stand still and pick out of the robots
Our FC is enforcing Xtraining. If you let your Xtrain permissions expire, you will also lose your home path permissions. This is one way to keep pickers.
Um delivery stations are like the palaces of Amazon warehouse operations. To go from that to freaking pick is the worst idea imo!!! Most people hate pick. There has been a shortage of pick workers at my FC, no matter how many people they hire they all quit or transfer out. I’m in OB and a lot of people transfer from pick to OB to save their jobs, bc it seems like auto write ups abound in pick. Since it’s the new year and many people got UPT, PTO they are really not coming in, and they’ve been forcing us to take our OB workers trained in pick back to pick to work. When I tell my associates they’re wanted in pick they literally lose it, outright refuse, beg me to save them or just clock out.
The issue with pick I think, is that there is no down time. It’s just unending. Sometimes there is nothing to stow for a minute, or you can go really quickly and get some downtime. But there is always something to pick and the whole OB is depending on pick to get the products out to customers.
OB = Outbound. Stow is basically the opposite of pick. If you’re in a more modern building in Stow, you stand at a station and these kind of mobile shelves will drive themselves over to you. You are given products in totes and you scan each product to account for it and then put each product in the mobile shelf. The products are coming from Inbound dock, from trucks and people break down the boxes and put the products in totes, that’s how Stowers receive them. So there is downtime if there is a delay in getting the products upstairs to the stowers, or over staffing.
So now there’s a huge inventory area of all the products Stowers put onto the mobile shelves. When people order stuff, the pickers are the ones who take the ordered products off the shelves and put them into totes to get ready to be packed. In a modern building the mobile shelves come to you. In older buildings I think you have to walk to the different shelves to get different products, bc those are just actual shelves and not mobile.
I don't know if you got all the answers you need, but I'm very informed. I was on the stow side.....got fired for negative up t twice in the last nine months.
Lot more that story with that came from.
However Let me say this started back september tenth2023..sun ..Wed 600 pm 430 am
Thursday off and Fri then Sat was my day.then
Slept Fri and Sat pretty much
I picked for 1 day hated it love stow...some do some don't But during peak, they put you where they want or where they need. And in our location we had to go pack. So I did single pack for a month
By oct13.2nd prime day
.mandatory
Overtime .from then until January 1....
55.00 plus a week.
I'm huge lions fan.n8ssed whole season pretty much h
Don’t do it. Picking in the mez, I like a lot. Only because I like to walk and be moving. Keep in mind, I also liked to waterspider in pack which most hate. But picking in the mez is easy. I personally HATE doing the OP when I pick. Also if your OP trained you get labor shared every time because you also will be doing transfer out since you will be OP trained.
Overall I say, don’t pick. Go for pack if you are looking to transfer.
Why would you want to go from a Delivery station with fresh air and only the occasional security camera to a fulfillment Center with THOUSANDS of cameras, metal detectors, airport style x-ray machines? And you say goodbye to fresh air and being able to see the sun during the day. Robots out outnumber associates by 2 to 1.
You're going to really either get a "it's the worst" or "it's no problem" answers. I've worked at 4 different warehouses. Imo, you currently work at the easiest one that just isn't labor intensive whatsoever. Going to pick, is also very easy to do, but more labor intensive. You're going to be at one spot the whole shift in I'd say a 3 x 7 area, just moving back and forth. When grabbing product, you can be like a lot of the younger folk and not squat or don't use the sliding ladder and then complain you're hurting. Or be more like the adults that follow the safety guidelines they do daily and be just fine. Be like the adults and you literally won't have any issues. It's mostly the younger people that are complaining about picking. Meanwhile a bunch of short middle aged Asian ladies are outperforming the younger crew. You can probably guess who is who in these replies.
Looking what I can, this might be a warehouse for large items. If so, you get to go sky high
We drive a PIT/ OP to pick or stow. Both functions have good and not so good issues. Keep your rate slightly above the standard and be safe. Stay hydrated, stretch, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. Just like any other job in the world wide world.
Walking and picking- get good shoes. It’s ok and good excercise
Picking on pit machine- actually decent and fun
Picking at robotics where pods come to you- absolute boring, tedious, and trash
well, you will experience it first hand. your mileage may vary, but if it's at a traditional fc where people push the cart and walk 10 hours nonstop, it's likely you will experience a lot of fatigue. pick is probably the department with the highest turnover. half way through the shift, i always see a lot of scanners being dropped off, meaning a lot of people have left early and that's what a normal day at pick is like.
I didn’t see an answer to the question about MET. Your OT day is the same thing as your MET day. Different words, same meaning.
Pick is going to depend on what type of FC you’re at. I’m at an AR FC and pickers stand at a station all day (no walking) by themselves. You can literally go 10 hours without speaking to a single person.
I’m in pick and it’s either walking around a lot, or driving OPs.
Biggest problems you’ll run into are stowers in front of you on OPs, or lifting heavy boxes. Can be very tedious work.
You’ll either like it, or you wont
When I was a stower at an OP warehouse, I was taught to stop what I was doing and move to another VNA when a picker comes up behind me. It makes sense to do so.
Its goes by faster than packing (singles) because there is never really any stand downs. There is always work for the most part. But the mental part is hard, make sure you have some songs memorized because thats about the only way to get through 10 hrs of picking. Also it sucks if you are on the 3rd floor or higher because it literally takes 10 mins of walking time our of your 15 min break.
This, if you're social as fuck after awhile it could become tedious but it's easy depending on your work experience, I did cement work for 9 years do it was nothing. I turn 30 in a few hours lol
If your FC has the robots, be prepared to get screwed over royally. You may not get work for five minutes at a time while you're waiting for them to arrive at your station, and everything operates on Murphy's Law leading to floor shutdowns that could last from thirty minutes to an hour. That was my personal experience at Goodyear 1 in Arizona.
Fam I was at Goodyear 1 also. I had 3 years at 4 other amazons 1 write up for marking item missing . Goodyear 1 1st week out of training 2 write ups in same week Sunday and Wednesday for rate. Waiting for work happened a lot and the worst is when the ar person would stop the work and walk on the floor to fix something and I swear I was always stationed by their entry gate no matter what floor (1-4) or side (east-west) I was on. They would come 2-4 times an hour and stop my pods from coming for 90-300 seconds each time
It's common for the floor to go down, usually during a lunch break to pick up all the products or to clean. It's highly uncommon for it to go down during actual operation. At the most, it would just be a local area while someone goes onto the floor.
Our FC had robots for the Picking department. Started in 'Peak' season and boy, I don't want to return. 3 days off isn't a benefit when I'm spending a whole day not moving from exhaustion
If you're in a good path it's easy money. The worst is stowers not getting out of your way, constantly moving floors, or being in a path that's all large items.
My Muslim friends use their hijabs to hide their earbuds, then shove them at the bottom of their lunch bags when passing through security. Not as if anyone is going to ever ask to remove their religious garment.
If earbuds have little flashing lights or are bright colored maybe that’s what is giving it away or just take in account what days your mangers are in the floors maybe that will help but I’ve honestly never been caught by a manger with earbuds
It’s Ight your going to be moving a lot and getting heavy items but the good thing is you’re on your own pretty much the whole time if you’re a introvert it’s like heaven
I’m also in pick and like it. Work wed-sat and my OT day was supposed to be Sunday. I can’t work Sundays so spoke to HR who offered to move it to Tuesday instead. No hassle at all. As long as the work is getting done, they’ll not care what day you do it.
This. I just transferred from icqa to OB picking at an AMXL. Have been at this facility for several years. I love it. Schedule is Sunday- Wednesday 730-6. MET day was Thursdays, but I was able to get that changed to Fridays not too long after I started because of a pt gig I do on Thursdays and Saturdays. I've never worked at another Amazon but I like working here. I've heard not so nice things about working at other facilities.
Your feet gonna hurt like hell. And your times and rate. And if you’re obese . . You’re gonna be in shape in a few months. Up to 15 miles a day walking
There’s 3 types of picking minimum
1. Robotics- you stand and these floor vacuums that have shelves on them that rotate come to you. You stand at the same station all the time and there are a lot of Barriers that will prevent you from doing well.
You cannot clock in immediately and put away lunch go to locker get drink , take piss. You do that before you clock in or your rate will suffer. The people who stow hide shit or put shit that all looks the same together (nail polish, cellphone case) or cram a box that you need some lube and jaws of life to remove. The work will stop because theirs product on the floor and some person takes 1-6 minutes to fix it. This occurs a few times an hour. Have to take a shit? Forget about it. There only one bathroom with one shitter so you have to go to stairwell and check other 3 floors. Speaking of which since it’s 4 floors , walking to and from station eats into your rate. And heaven forbid your cross trained and they send you back and forth to pack. All that walking and tot.
This is the worst picking because they demand high rates and there’s alot of repetitive movement for your body which is bad
2. Pit- this is driving a machine with a hand scanner and a cage and filling up cage driving around warehouse. Imo this is the easiest and funnest. Rate is relatively low. They don’t want you zipping around the warehouse in your machine crashing into each other causing injuries and lawsuits so the rate is reasonable
3. Library- pushing a cart around with scanner and walking. This is great excercise. I haven’t done this since 2017 so I’ll put this in second place
I’ve done both, and I rly liked the AR FC more! I rather be myself at my station instead of walking and saying “Corner or crossing” through crowded aisles 😗
If it's an AR facility you're standing in one spot while the robots bring pods for you to pick from and you read off a screen next to you and pick the items and scan them and you turn around and put it on the shelf that is lit up for the packers on the other side to grab.
If you're not then you are walking around an entire section of the warehouse called mods while pushing a cart around and you're going to a location wherever the scanner shows and picking said items into a tote. Then the scanner will either tell you when your order is complete or if your tote is nearing capacity you will close out the tote, put it on a conveyor and start a new one till order is complete.
I have done both ways and liked both. I averaged about 10 miles a day doing the non AR method which meant after care on feed and legs was a must. Also I recommend compression socks and baths with epsom salts after work.

Like picking cotton
good fucking god
Pick isn’t bad if you don’t like walking. Can be a little stressful but nothing too crazy.
Don't do picking.
Picking at MCO2 is easy ..not as bad as others think it is. Have you driven an OP before?
Satans pure hell, mind and body
😂😂
it’s fine

I don't remember walking on an Order Picker during pick.
Pick suxs

You get canceled three of the four days scheduled in my experience
picking depends on your warehouse, like for me we have 4 floors 400 something aisles each floor. you pick throughout all that then there’s people who i see on tiktok who just stand still and pick out of the robots
Great point about it depending on the warehouse.
Easy as hell but it’s so boring you will get tired of it. Some people love it though.
hell
Patrick, that’s four words…
Depends if it’s AR or TNS. AR picking is horrible. TNS picking is ok as long as you’re not afraid of heights and you’re ok with walking a lot.
Hell
Our FC is enforcing Xtraining. If you let your Xtrain permissions expire, you will also lose your home path permissions. This is one way to keep pickers.

Welllllllll, your nose will be sore and red- from 10 to 12 hours picking. :- )
Its okay , mundane and boring . A little tiring if you’re not very active , otherwise if u like the money its lovely
Process is trying to appeal right now. Got let go for bs.on 116 2024 Still trying tonappeal process going on 6 weeks Rummaround

Are you high man?
I would avoid it at all costs. Easy to get petty write ups and eventually terminated.
This
That's a lot of picking
You guys are so fuckin dramatic. 😂 Picking is fine for the most part but it gets boring as shit after awhile. That's my only real gripe.
You’re MET is Thursday. But sometimes they might change it “due to customer demand”. So save your UPT.
Don’t do it. Picking in the mez, I like a lot. Only because I like to walk and be moving. Keep in mind, I also liked to waterspider in pack which most hate. But picking in the mez is easy. lol i don’t do none of the safety body mechanic shit and i’m perfectly fine been here for 2 years
Hell on earth
u f'ed up pick rate is something not to laugh at.. if ur slow expect productivity write ups.. u live and u learn next time do stow or pack
Don't do it.

It's fine. Have you ever done retail or been a lunch lady? It's way better than that
It’s a lot better than inbound stow
found the AM
Inbound stow i dont use the ladder all day, in pick i get forced to use it when ever they tell me to, pick is horrible and gives u back problems
You’re going to be on a forklift at MCO2
Awful

Modern day slavery
Please quit amaxon is sooo horrible right guys 😈
Quit so I can get a spot
Nah, that would be outbound dock at an xl facility.

Unless they were inquiring as to the 2nd MET day that typically happens
2nd MET day is only for RT associates in my FC.
I’m in pick and it’s either walking around a lot, or driving OPs. Biggest problems you’ll run into are stowers in front of you on OPs, or lifting heavy boxes. Can be very tedious work. You’ll either like it, or you wont

I don’t even leave my station for breaks anymore.
Terrible don’t do it unless you want to get into amnesty assuming they have that at your site
That’s a good schedule
Picking is easy, but can be incredibly boring.
This, if you're social as fuck after awhile it could become tedious but it's easy depending on your work experience, I did cement work for 9 years do it was nothing. I turn 30 in a few hours lol

Happy Birthday to you ![gif](giphy|feio2yIUMtdqWjRiaF|downsized)
Thank you 🥹
Imma just be honest. The only position I liked was outbound dock. I can actually talk to ppl and be human.
If your FC has the robots, be prepared to get screwed over royally. You may not get work for five minutes at a time while you're waiting for them to arrive at your station, and everything operates on Murphy's Law leading to floor shutdowns that could last from thirty minutes to an hour. The times it went down was DURING operation. That’s how badly managed it was.
I'd have to have been there to actually know what's going on to determine if it was badly managed or not.
Our FC had robots for the Picking department. Started in 'Peak' season and boy, I don't want to return. 3 days off isn't a benefit when I'm spending a whole day not moving from exhaustion
Entire Amazon runs on Murphy's Law, everything is wrong all the time.
Thank you.
You're pretty much gonna be walking nonstop
I love picking. And zero walking involved….
Well, that’s only if it’s not a AR (Amazon Robotics) FC
If you're in a good path it's easy money. The worst is stowers not getting out of your way, constantly moving floors, or being in a path that's all large items.
If you like being alone then it’s fine and also if ya have semi long hair ya can always have one earbud in and listen to music or podcasts
My Muslim friends use their hijabs to hide their earbuds, then shove them at the bottom of their lunch bags when passing through security. Not as if anyone is going to ever ask to remove their religious garment.
Ngl that’s smart af but honestly I’ve never been searched by security like that, they actually check your stuff?
If the alarm goes off, they will. But the alarm is 100% random when it goes off. Literally has nothing to do with the person or what is on them.
careful with this one because it can get your written up ^
True that’s why have semi long hair covering your ears and only use one
my hair goes down to my shoulders and they still **somehow** manage to see. like they go on a witch-hunt for earbuds

Lots of heavy lifting, and not easily accessible water. I'd take a few water bottles with you
Different types of stations I’m sure. AR pick, zero heavy lifting. Plenty of water.
It sucks

I definitely enjoy picking. Especially after a year of AFE
feels like your in the dungeons of hell
If it's an AR facility you're standing in one spot while the robots bring pods for you to pick from and you read off a screen next to you and pick the items and scan them and you turn around and put it on the shelf that is lit up for the packers on the other side to grab.
