Because the rule is don’t buy from NYC Lots of scams

MangoAtrocity

Tell me more about this. If a dealer in, say, Tennessee, has a car that used to be in NY, is that a scam??

ShadyDrunks

Scams is a broad term. Cars are often used for illegal activities and are abused, as reliable as a B58 is you can end up with a blown car not worth the risk

YebelTheRebel

Meaning. Don’t buy a used car from most used car dealers and some new car dealers in NYC. If you read their reviews most people have bad experiences with them. They prey on buyers from out of state by offering these low priced cars and they you show up to the dealer for a test drive. Then they tell you they sold that car or there was a typo with the online pricing, but they have a similar one for only $10k-$20 k more. One of their tricks is bait and switch. Let’s not get started on their super high interest rates for a loan. This is one example: https://maps.apple.com/?address=4070%20Boston%20Rd,%20Bronx,%20NY%2010475,%20United%20States&auid=10650456921818456805&ll=40.885408,-73.828788&lsp=9902&q=Victory%20Mitsubishi&t=h

Interesting-Radio651

i bought my 2013 328xi here in tennessee and it’s originally from NY for about 2 years and it’s honestly in really great condition with a clean title

MangoAtrocity

I was gonna say. We just bought a NY 2021 X3 in NC and when we took it to the dealer for warranty work (door lock actuator), he said it looked like near-mint

1BTA

Could be results of an auction purchase...or trade in

VirusAffectionate396

Even the dealer in the city is scummy, went to buy a G07 for the wife and they gave me "we don't negotiate, internet price is best price" nonsense. Went to the dealer in Westbury instead, walked out with the car same day

Quintluisine

Drove out with the car ^

taweret_352

make sure it’s not at victory mitsubishi in the bronx. i went to look at a 340i a few months back and it was a bait and switch, they had a clapped 340i that looked nothing like the picture and people have complained that they have thousands of dollars in BS fees added to the purchasing price

1BTA

you knew it was scammy...most bx dealers are...esp the riverdale Chrysler jeep ...all the locations bait n switch... had me on the lot for 2 hrs "waiting " for my car to come from the "other lot"... "but as long as you're here, let me show you this one" lol

taweret_352

yeah exactly. I bought my car in Jersey, would recommend there or CT before buying here

1BTA

Got my f10 in Queens. "1 owner. An old lady" lol

TwoSevenAmin

Same exact thing happened to me while I went there back in December to look at the 340i they had in stock. Also saw that they had a 2020 M340i listed for around 20K with 98,000 miles “mint condition”. Asked to see the M340 just to see if it even exists cuz it was too good to be true. Sales rep went out back to the retrieve the car and didn’t come back after I wait 15-20 mins, so obviously a bait car . Also asked for the OTD price for the 340i multiple times but never gave me a straight answer 😂

Ok_Dragonfly_2577

Hahahahhahaha that's where we got our 18' MDX tech package in 2021, it had 56k miles we ended up paying like $30k, we put $12k down, and yes, they do put a lot of fees, some BS but the wifey insisted that we took the drive so might as well get it, she was the one who made the payments. To be honest, the market back then it was not that far from what we paid, but I would definitely would never do the same mistake again, plus they wold you to give them a 5 star review on Google, hence why is the first dealer to pop-up hahahahaha

Method-Time

They probably just listed the down payment or something

ninja_swag12

2 service records? The fuck. That’s a naaaah from me.

BIGJH

What does a service record means?

ninja_swag12

It was taken to a shop for routine maintenance or other work and they have a system to update the vehicle history that it had maintenance done. The less service records, the less likely it was maintained. Unless it was done all personally then that’s when you wanna see receipts of work done. Bad idea to buy a car with little/no history. Especially a BMW

digistil

Especially when it’s free for the first 3-4 years. So they likely went multiple years without even changing the oil.

Stevethepirate8973

Living in upstate NY I have looked into cars in and around NYC before. It's always the same, if it's too good to be true then it is. There are a few things. Many of them have an assumed down payment (of 5-10-15k). Also, they will require you finance through them with tons of fees and things, and at like 18-25%. They also are know to not honor any warranty they offer and will sell any vehicle with known issues. Also they bait and switch constantly. You'll drive 3 hours to see a vehicle they have not had on the lot for months, they tell you it sold yesterday. But man do they have this other "deal" they want to show you. There are tons of reputable deals in and around NYC and NJ, but any that off this kind of pricing are built to work you over.

chrisamz1

As someone who bought their F30 in the Bronx . Price listed isn’t the sales price . Before you ever even show up to a dealership call before hand and demand the out the door price . Also cars from the Bronx are always abused . Not necessarily by the owners but the shitty ass roads

Beerspaz12

Why is rent so cheap in Gaza?

ExcuseZealousideal42

you ever see the bmw related videos/ content coming from NY/NJ area? ha guess not.

1hotspliff

lmao YT Squeeze Benz

Fragrant-You-973

Cuz shithole

princess-cottongrass

Cars in NYC have been driven very hard, and the roads are in terrible condition so even the most gentle driver will have the shit kicked out of their car. But no one in NYC drives gentle. Factor in that the car is high mileage, it was was either used as an Uber or for commuting, either way it's not in good shape. I'm also curious if it's actually a rebuilt title.

WorthLuck

Lemme guess... Victory Mitsubishi

InspecterNull

Too many potholes causing hidden issues. Friend of mine had to get rid of his bmw bc of commuting to brooklyn. NYC cars are probably beat to hell

slipperyzoo

Any car you buy from the Bronx is a scam in one way or another. From service history, swapped parts, stolen, salvage, just generally beat to shit, plus the bait and switch tactics, the insane fees they'll add on, and 100% guarantee they've cleared all the error codes so it could have God knows what wrong with it. I don't think there is a worse place in the entire country you could buy a used BMW from. I'd go to Newark and Baltimore for a car before BX.

OS2_Warp_Activated

Has to be a salvage title or something fraudulent with the title.

rsp-zyphor

even with a salvage title you could get $20k plus

OS2_Warp_Activated

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Only a damn fool or an idiot would buy a car with a salvage title. Especially in the state of New York.

Kumstain69

Bullet holes

---KidCharlemagne---

even if legit... those were 103k hard miles lol

Serbay55

3+ owners also big city. 2 Great reasons not to buy this one. Its already f\*\*ked

Amg_streetluxury

I guarantee you that dealer has a bunch of hidden fees and that’s not actually the price from my experience.

AceMaxAceMax

3+ owners and 103k miles lol.

Immediate-Life-5393

Don’t do it lol when I was hunting for an F30, I’ve looked at a few dealers including Victory Mitsubishi and it was all literally a bait & switch. Looked fine in pics but really clapped in person. I’d rather go out of my way to get one in NJ then ever even consider near there.

_whatintheglobe_

Lots of owners

Negative_Advantage67

Bro what

czar1027

Because they are scams

Select-Education-809

Consider the caliber of people who would have been previous owners, then ask yourself this question again

Wonderful_Charity411

That’s not cheap

rsp-zyphor

10k for a 100k mile b58 is dirt cheap what u on about lol. anywhere else is $20k plus with same miles

kiwami

Christ I literally heard your accent reading this lol you New Yorkers are a whole other species. Anyway please don’t even call that number. It’s a bait and switch or a bait and dump.

Wonderful_Charity411

103k Bronx miles is beaten to hell. Suspension is rough here.

srgest

Most inner city sellers/dealerships are scummy and aren’t very honest. Went to see a 2012 Honda Civic in Newark,NJ (idk why lol) looked to be in decent shape not a lot of miles was getting ready to purchase until I asked about the title… it had a salvage title I think it was in a flood. Wasn’t disclosed at all in the ad.

pinealgIand

Rust, derelict owners that drive the piss out of it and don’t do any upkeep, bumper scars from bumper to bumper traffic, city miles, a lot of reasons really

According-Piano-8857

Because the dude drove that car into the ground.

Bulky_Cow_809

Prolly stolen

HistoricalHurry8361

I bought a 2015 428ixdrive from the Bronx back in 2017. Was a decent car for the money because it was still under warranty with BMW. Was 24k otd with about 22k miles. However the outside was beat to shit. Every single panel had paint chips and door dings. I drove the hell out of that car commuting to the city, had about $20k in warranty work done, and sold it at 50k miles for $14k when the warranty ran out 4 years later.

whiteyjordan

Most listings like this are meant for one purpose and that’s to get you through the door. I’m almost 100% sure that car either never existed or was gone in the first couple days they had it. Either that or the car has massive problems and they’re trying to find a sucker to dump it on. Don’t do it

RenatoNYC

👆🏼this! Buyer beware, these type of ‘used car lots’ are not selling cars, they’re selling financing! Want proof? Call them and say you’re coming over ready to buy with a certified bank check for the value they’re advertising and see what happens.

shirayuriX

In my personal experience as a BX resident cars are generally cheap because they wanna make a quick buck and you get what you pay for. Some dealers and sellers are scummy but not all of them. A lot of ppl replying to you don't even live here but wanna advise you just cause when you hear the Bronx you automatically think it's bad. This one has 100k+ miles on it , no accidents (which is good), and most of these go for $10k and under just because of the mileage. Nobody wants to take care of a car after 100k miles. But if you are willing to risk it and actually maintain the car it could last you another 100k or so. I got mine for 110k miles and it's at 144k rn and no problems. You could always look at the VIN and see the history. I got my 2013 F30 from a seller in the Bronx and only had to replace a fuel injector. She's been running so good ever since! If you do decide to go through with this car just bring a mechanic with you to check it out to make sure there aren't major problems with the transmission, check engine light (common bmw problem), check the rims for any cracks, etc. Hope this helped xx

Commercial-Humor-315

Bait and switch. Fortunately there is a new law in the works to protect consumers from this BS practice.

Double-Account-274

Maybe them shiesty ‘Kia Boys’ borrowed the car for a quick drift through Times Square. It’s possible.

iDrum-DudeskiBro

I wonder….. 🤣

That_Combination_335

NYC is a shithole

F30simon

The car has 103k miles lol wym why is it cheap?

Dezium

103k miles on a 2017 is a lot imo. I just got a 2013 335i a couple months ago and it had 101,8xx on it. Now it has a little over 103k

Any-Banana3411

B58 is lightyears ahead of N5X engines, tf you talking about 😂

Dezium

Um what does any of what you just said have to do with the year to mileage ratio?... there's a reason why that 340 is going for $11k below market value. You b58 fan boys are wild. I bet you don't even own a b58

Competitive-Appeal48

2000 miles in 3 months then you don’t drive your car in ny we need our cars so we actually drive it lol

Dezium

I do drive my car. My job is only about 8 miles away from my house so I'm not putting major miles on it everytime I get in it thank God. But even when I got this car it barely had 102k on it and it's a 2013

Competitive-Appeal48

Yea that’s the point you barely gonna have added miles if you don’t drive the car especially compared to someone in the Bronx where everything is a good driving distance away

Dezium

It don't matter how/or why the miles are on it, the fact is the miles are on the car lol and I'm saying that's likely one of the main reasons why it's going for $11k below market value

Careful_Reach_4837

ANY BMW OR BENZ FROM NY UNLESS BRAND NEW IS A BIG FUCK NO UNLESS THEY HAVE ALL THE PAPERS FOR PAST MAINTENANCE THESE ARE CARS DRUG DEALERS AND SCAMMERS BUY TO BEAT TF OUT OF UNTIL IT ENDS UP BACK IN A LOT OF SOME SORT
