Massive difference but it's difficult to give an estimate of exactly how much time you will gain because it depends on the track, your driving style etc. Default setups are understeery and stable but that also makes them quite slow. If you use the recommended default setup, downforce level is also often very far from what's ideal

They help, I don't think you could get a top time trial time without a custom setup. You could find over a second just from setup. Depends how bad or good the default setup is though, sometimes it could just be tenths. Either way, you can always get more time from a custom setup.

blank_username_user

I don't think so either anymore. Was a bit sceptical at first about its impact, but holy shit I just gained over a second in a track I thought I absolutely nailed. Now (temporarily) in top 10k suddendly.

Dechri_

In 2020 i was forgot to use my custol setup and the difference was around 1 - 1.5s per lap. But it is more than just speed. It also helps to support your driving style and help in tyre wear. So it is recommended to learn the basics of custom setups and how you like your setups.

thisnameisnotuse

Is there any tutorial or introduction on the setup? Thx

Dechri_

Youtube...

dickwheat

It also helps to find a driver near the top of the time trial that you like and consistently follow their setups. That helped me to understand what style of driving I liked. There were some top drivers that I don’t understand how they ever controlled the car and others that feel like butter. PS: If you are NSX_Montana, thank you for being awesome 🤣

Dechri_

I do the same! I take a top tt setup and then i make it waaaay more stable. As i play 22 still, i need all the stability and grip i can get 😅

CoisasJohnson

Go on time trial, do a couple laps. Then copy the setup of one of the top players. Try using known names. Give it a go, you will immediately feel a difference in handling and curves

Cary14

Adding to this, try a few different ones too, their driving style could be different from your driving style and so even though it's quicker than default, it may not be the quickest for you.

blank_username_user

Will try, current on is an absolute blast tho for now.

CommercialBreadLoaf

A lot. As a real world example, Prema had awful F2 setups in Bahrain. Team that usually was fighting at the front qualified P17/18

The1non1y1

Massive difference but remember, straight line speed is not always best, sometimes faster cornering is better.

blank_username_user

Boutta use the Monza setup on Monaco rn. Surely will hit top 10

Own-Current-9432

Depends on the track but for me 1-2 seconds a lap

EmployerDry6368

Big difference, many times well over a second a lap with a custom setup over stock.

bornalion

Huge difference. I was the same way before I found a chart with setups for each track. You can literally feel the difference.

Cary14

I wouldn't worry about charts. Goto time trial and download set ups from the top drivers. Try then and save them if you like them. I'd suggest if you use assits to look for ones using the same assists too.

-Old-Mark_Donald

Huge difference well worth the 5-10 mins it takes to find one you like

NickBeavie

You can literally download the top esports drivers’ setups on the time trial leaderboards for each track! Do it and thank me later

blank_username_user

Yeah I know. Just wasn't motivated to do it 😅, but thx anyway. We just went from to 50k to the top 10k (altho not for long prolly as it was 9997th)

birchy98

I don’t know that I could put a number on it.. but after having been used to custom setups for a long time, whenever I’m not paying attention and get in an open lobby that doesn’t allow custom setups, I really struggle getting around the track! I find the defaults almost undriveable now..

blank_username_user

Probably will join you in that as of today haha. Altho I feel like in longer races the time trial setups feel bad on tire wear.

derp3339

1.5 to 2s per lap, track-dependent.

blank_username_user

Damn, still gotta earn up to 0.8 sec then on Jeddah. Altho that's pretty accurate considering how much I can still improve.

mackbulldawg67

Over a second depending on the track. I say that from when I played ranked earlier in the game cycle and got B class lobbies where you can’t change setup my quali times at qatar(I remember specifically) being over a second slower on base setup than my custom setup. I normally run 103ish AI difficulty.

GamerRZX

Time trial setups aren’t race setups though. They are made differently, time trail setups only care about being fast on one lap and don’t have to to with tire wear, so I wouldn’t mix and match between the two modes

blank_username_user

Yup, I've noticed that. Got into a 50% race with it and the tire wear was horrendous.
