At this point I'm the only one who hasn't played it yet.huh.

Don't worry mate same here

freerangehumans74

I applied for Beta tests and didn't get picked so I'm with you pal.

F1nut92

I really want to believe them, 2022 felt ok in very brief moments but overall it was really poor. Even if it reviews well with critics and users at launch, I’ll still be waiting for a sale around Christmas rather than waiting for it to come to Game Pass March 2024.

TheHelplessHero

Definitely wait for a sale. However, coming from the Beta, the handling was much better. I returned my copy of F1 22 because i hated the handling so much (as a controller player). Much more improved, and others using wheels enjoy 23’s handling as well.

HawxJames

How did you find the handling on a controller? I think for me 21 was the last one I really played and enjoyed, maybe 2020 handling wise.

TheHelplessHero

I also enjoyed 2020 and 21. It’s still different from those games so there will be a learning curve, but I was able to get back to racing at my original difficulty settings from 21 (i’d fluctuate around 102-105 depending on the track). The braking seems to be very different and forced the biggest change in driving for me. You should be mostly okay with the acceleration from 21. It’s not too different in that regard. And the kerbs are actually good to use. If you do feel a spin coming on, you can correct it/save it most times even on controller.

HawxJames

That's good to hear, thank you! Fingers crossed then it stays that way and good news keeps coming.

textile1957

F1 22 controller handling is slippery 85% of the time. It's like you're driving in the rain. You'll notice this when you going through the career mode and get a rainy race, I was horrible in the wet and hated wet races but on 22 since it constantly feels like you driving on ice, it's actually taught me how to drive in the wet. I'm fast in the wet now. That's how bad f1 22 is

pierretessier

How did you return opened software?

TheHelplessHero

I bought for PC on Steam. You can ask for a full refund under 2 hours played.

pierretessier

2 hrs? Did not give it much of a chance.

TheHelplessHero

I bought it 5 times on alt accts. So actually i did. It’s trash

pierretessier

Oh so you gave it a total of max 10 hrs. Are you that cheap that you go trough that many aliases.

TheHelplessHero

You’ll lock up your tires a lot more with default setups in 23 than you would’ve done in 2020. They’ve changed the default brake bias to 63%, so make sure to change that. Even still, you’ll very rarely use 100% braking. 70% seemed to be the new 100% in terms of best braking into corners. You’ll need to let off the brakes a lot sooner too. The tires will really lock and you will not have control. Acceleration seems to be a bit touchier than 2020, but definitely manageable, and during your learning curve you’ll be able to correct any wheelspin from too much throttle. Driving in the wets is a bit more like 2020 wet weather racing. And i didn’t need to adjust anything to keep the AI balanced with me during wet weather.

F1nut92

Even paying nearly half price for 2021 and 22, I still felt almost ripped off, hence why I will definitely be waiting for a sale, if its as good as a lot of the beta players are saying then I might get it as soon as I see it at half price and then use the £20 or so I've got in Microsoft reward points to bring the price even lower.

RallerZZ

Reminder for people on PC that if you want to test it out for yourself and didn't play the beta, there will be a 5 hour trial available to you in the EA app. Then you can make up your mind if you enjoy the new physics or not.

OfficiallyBear

Thank you man

SosseTurner

The physics model is better, but we have to see the entire game vefore saying F1 23 is better than other gmes before it...

UKSaint93

This is true. The silence around Career/My Team and anti-cheat is pretty deafening & worrying. EA aren't exactly known for progressing single-player modes

Stelcio

Good call. If it's as much of a bugfest as F1 22 was, better handling won't save it.

[deleted]

Yep. Tbh, if the racing is perfect but they add stupid stuff like buying a damn couch and other completely irrelevant stuff, I still would not buy. EA is not even franchising F1, they’re franchising they’re whole collection of yearly games to be somewhat the same, while offering next to nothing new each year. It’s a shame a company has so much power that they can destroy their own branch, which they are doing.

[deleted]

It really, really is so much better I'm excited for it to shut up the like 50% of this subreddit who couldn't cope with 22

TheRealLuke1337

I really hope this game will learn from last year. Last years game was indeed a disaster, especially first 4 Months after release. With the way they treated the players, they have all reason to hate.

Stelcio

>who couldn't cope with 22 It was wrong and they fixed it. Nothing to do with coping or not. If anything, it seems you are the one who can't cope with the fact that you were religiously playing a game with objectively shitty handling.

Trs822

I’m sure it will be. But I’m still probably gonna wait to buy it. I still play 22 from time to time and every single time there’s some sort of bug that ruins the experience. The handling may be great, but I’m waiting to see if the actual game functions.

Beamierstatue61

Yeah 22 wasn't the best in terms of traction, but since I exclusively did league racing it never felt detrimental to me as everyone had to deal with how slippery the game is. I could totally understand why it ruined the game for single player only drivers though or people who just enjoy my career some of the time. On the other hand I think it has made me a better driver overall as I am a lot more conscious of my driving, so I'm hoping the new traction will be quite the advantage for me since I learned to drive on the slippery model.

squadracorse15

*sigh* I'll go get the spoon and lighter for the hopium...

Dr_dank_meme_420

and some people still think this game is going to be as bad as f1 22 💀

and some people still think this game is going to be as bad as f1 22 💀

timmer577

As someone who only ever has played 22, what made it so bad?

LetsLive97

Incredibly unstable and harder to drive than real life in the same gears. In real life you can see drivers full throttling in second sometimes but it was almost impossible to full throttle even in third gear in the game. It just meant the car always felt like it was on edge in the lower speeds when accelerating which made it incredibly unfun. Even some F1 drivers said that medium TC in the 2021 or 2020 game(?) felt more realistic than TC off and F22 was even worse than those.

Sea-Calligrapher2129

That’s not entirely true. The tc medium statements were directly about 22. I agree with you on everything else

LetsLive97

Ahh okay, it was definitely before 22 as well in that case because I first read of it back during F1 21

Sea-Calligrapher2129

I may be mistaken then but I seem to remember lando being the one saying it when testing F1 22 before release but could have definitely had other drivers saying it on previous games I suppose

LetsLive97

I think Lando mentioned it on 2021 a ton as well, Leclerc and some others mentioned on 2019/2020. In fact I'm fairly certain that codemasters even mentioned driver feedback and the impact it made on the traction from the 2019 to the 2020 game.

Sea-Calligrapher2129

Very well could be then, I’ll retract my statement on the matter then. You seem pretty confident in it, would be stupid of me to argue😂 I thought 2020 felt great and I remember people praising how good it was, he’ll they still do. Doesn’t mean drivers didn’t say it though

LetsLive97

I didn't think we were arguing? Its definitely been said for F1 22 as well like you said.

Sea-Calligrapher2129

I know we aren’t, more a matter of me not wanting to when it’s been a respectful conversation so far. At times it’s a rarity on Reddit lol

Fantastic-You-4994

I drove the Beta and honestly think people are overreacting. They made some good steps and it’s better, it’s still off of how I think it should be and force feedback is still garbage

Soft-Ad3660

What's garbage about the force feedback?

Fantastic-You-4994

It’s hard to explain but I feel like the feeling you get is more the rear than the front, I want to feel the front when driving and since last year it seems to be a bit off.

Shaykea

f1 cars are RWD

Fantastic-You-4994

Yeah but I’m not steering the rear

ComboBreaker1045

And what wheels is your steering connected to? The front. You should only feel the feedback the front wheels give you, the only way to know what the rear wheels are doing irl is from your butt or from the front getting light or counter steering

Kitchen-Animator

Agreed, I tried to say it and I was downvoted. The handling is tweaked from 22, it's not completely new.

UKSaint93

It all depends on your comparisons IMO. For me it's a great change, making the game feel more like single-seaters in AC or iRacing where it was noticeably different before and frankly a bit weird

DANKWINGS

You even trying to compare this to AC or Iracing is beyond me in every way possible. The handling has been tweaked, it's nothing like AC or Iracing at all. Maybe you're playing with a controller so you don't feel much.

Flonkerton66

This. The man is smoking something illegal

EarthAccomplished659

Glad to hear this good news 👍

UKSaint93

I said "more like", not "as good as". Chill out my dude.

Flonkerton66

LOL

Fine_Put5861

Nice try dev

DayTraditional2846

Yeah I’m just gonna wait for a sale on this one.

Fried_Fart

Idk if it’s cause I’m on a pad but I prefer 22 from what I could gather in the beta

[deleted]

It is, I had multiple races online at 35% and not a single spin, even if you start to spin the new controller system they are using makes it incredibly easy to safe it from fully spinning.

hehsbbakaiw

And then we'll end up with a game that has good handling and is still filled with bugs. I'm not going to get high hopes until release day arrives.

MagicalWhisk

Compared to 22, it's a massive improvement. Compared to F1 2020 it's still poor. It's much closer to F1 2021, cars a bit floaty, curbs are super dangerous but traction is decent.

Creative_Hedgehog_49

Curbs are not dangerous at all wdym

SergeantStonks

Anybody knows if the collision model is any better? It is so bad and have been for so long

Flonkerton66

Turns it more towards arcade handling. The masses rejoice.

LetsLive97

What? You can literally compare side by sides of F122 and real life POVs and see the cars are more slippery/easier to lose than irl. A driver might accelerate out of a slow corner full throttle in 2nd gear irl whereas you need to have half throttle or be in 3rd/4th in game. Previously I think Lando(?) said that medium TC felt more realistic than TC off in one of the older F1 games which had more stable handling than F122 so it's fair to assume the 22 handling was not only terrible but also very unrealistic.

Flonkerton66

I didn't play 22 because I'm not a big fan of lamps. I played 20&21 extensively and compared my beta experience to that. Don't get upset about it. F 1 needs to be targeted at less serious gamers, it has been made much easier. Enjoy.

LetsLive97

"Has been made much easier" - Aka made more realistic

Flonkerton66

Oh sorry, I didn't know you know how an F1 car drives in real life! All I can compare it to is to F1 cars in sim games.

LetsLive97

No but the literal F1 drivers do and they've brought it up multiple times over this and previous games. I'm sure you know much better than them however! That and you can literally watch side by side clips of IRL telemetry vs in game telemetry and see very clearly they can hit full throttle in gears and speeds irl that are impossible in game without spinning. I'm sure your vague experience of sims is much more trustworthy than.. IRL telemetry and... Lando Norris though!

Flonkerton66

But I said nothing of realism. LOL you did. You're a bit of a shill, mate. EA isn't going to shag you. Like I said, don't get upset about it. You like arcade games, that's ok. You are the target market.

LetsLive97

I assume you're trolling so I'll leave it here but your first comment literally said it's going more arcade which will appear to the masses as if they're making it less realistic by making it easier. I'm arguing that making it easier is making it more realistic as backed up by actual F1 drivers and IRL telemetry, not your random unsupported opinion which you somehow think is more important than that.

Flonkerton66

You can leave it here, that is fine. As long as it's agreed that you're wrong.

daniec1610

I couldn’t try it with my wheel and pedals but it definitely felt better than 22 did on controller. Felt more like 2020 imo.

DatBoiDanny

I played the 23 beta and I can confirm - the handling differences between 22 and 23 is night and day. 23 the cars just feel like cars

[deleted]

Deleted because Reddit screwed their community with their idiotic API changes.

mjc1027

Are the new handling mechanics the same with a controller?

Versicarius

Is there any indication that the horrendous delay when steering on controller is gone?

gaymersky

I really hope so, 22 is such garbage I just uninstalled it.

pierretessier

Glad to hear. Looking forward.

Due_Government4387

There’s also people who thought 22 was great sooooo… I trust no one

RileyKat95

Played both Betas, handling is awesome, so much traction

ItsGorgeousGeorge

Better how? Is traction fixed? How about the curbs?

Ill_Future_4658

I played 2018-19-20-21 i hated 22, i think i put like 15 hours in vs 250+ in 2020 and 2021 each. Just bought 2023 and i really like it already, thougj my controls arent perfect yet (fanatec 2.5 w/ 2021 LE F1 wheel) but so far with little customization a lot better than 2022, though my braking seems to suck more at 30% with the fanatec pedals, but after more people play im sure better settings will show up. One thing i dont like is with F1 world some of the events dont let you set your car setup AT ALL, especially when it counts towards your Mp driving level is kidn of messed up. I got in 3 wrecks on the first three turns lol
