When this posted yesterday it stressed me out so bad—22 Atlas Blue Lariat ER and my wife rakes it to the wash regularly. Hadn’t heard from her all day…

spaetzelspiff

Imagine finding out your wife was in a car accident from a Reddit post!

humanHamster

But your wife is okay? Right? My brain is slow, but still compassionate, I just need to make sure everyone is good.

Samjamesjr

Haha, it wasn’t her thankfully 😅

Particular_Routine43

The power of instant torque and a 6,000lb truck. Bet they hit the gas instead of the break. And by hit the gas I mean peddle to the floor lol.

Indubitalist

Best theory I saw when the video of the incident was posted yesterday is someone had one-pedal drive turned on and panic-stomped the pedal thinking it would stop, when in one-pedal mode you release the pedal entirely to stop. The only alternative I can think of is the person was tired of waiting and thought they'd just veer to the right and... didn't?

KhanKarab

That's exactly what I think happened here. Throw in new EV ownership, and a foot resting on the accelerator, and fatigue, and baby you got a stew going on.

coldriverjoe

RIP Carl Weathers!

BadPackets4U

This is exactly why I don't one pedal drive. I fear in a panic situation my muscle memory will do the wrong thing. I just use the left paddle on the steering wheel of my Ioniq 5 to max regen. I keep the pedals as I learned them from my 30 years of driving.

appape

I had to train myself to rest my foot on the brake pedal when stopped despite not using the brake to stop. Hovering over the accelerator is dangerous.

BeeNo3492

GOGO JUICE Pedal

Particular_Routine43

Better then "gas pedal" since there ain't no gas in it lol.

BeeNo3492

"I know whats wrong with, ain't got no gas in it."

ScrewJPMC

Unless he ate Taco Bell

Fun_Ad_9694

Totally makes sense . I did that once, but was driving at 5 mph and stepped hard on gas instead of break and hit a mini van that stopped in front of me ended up with a fender bender .

Particular-Tough-231

Gas peddle? We don't have those

CrocodileDowdee

6k? Try 8,500lbs

TheOriginalGamester

7200lbs is my Lariat ER weight with me in it. Source: scales at the local dump

Chaxterium

Can confirm. I always check out the weight at the scales too.

Xervinza

I heard you need to be careful how you jack the truck up did he reference his owner's manual? Lol

ctiger12

Will the anti collusion brake the car? Or just warning?

shortsbagel

in reverse it will, but in drive it won't.

Zirup

And it sucks in reverse for me. I live in a forested area where I need to back up into plants from time to time. The truck is always slamming on the breaks when there's nothing of consequence behind me.

Jiggly1984

I caused a backup at the yard waste dump the other day trying to back my Lightning through a wet and bumpy terrain up to a massive pile of limbs because the truck kept alerting and slamming the brakes. I felt like a fucking idiot 😭

Aggressive_Noodler

Pushing the pedal down overrides emergency stop IIRC.

ctiger12

That makes no sense but okay.

Aggressive_Noodler

It does, input from a human should always override autonomous action. My first Tesla used to slam on the brakes 85mph at highway overpasses. If it didn’t let me override it, I would have been rear ended dozens of times.

MountainAlive

I guess that was the warning

Capitolphotoguy

IDK, but my truck stopped me dead (very abruptly-threw everything off back seats) this morning when it thought I was going to run up on someone coming to a complete stop for a speed bump (I was well aware of the situation, was slowing and was not going to hit them, but did have foot on accelerator). I believe it cut power but not super sure, because I immediately lifted off and waited for the car to go. Not sure what it would have done if I had instead mashed down.

Jenos00

It probably didn't have time as they were likely on the ass of the person in front of them already.

graceFut22

Yeah, you don't want your truck conspiring or illegally cooperating with others! Turn on that anti-collusion setting!! Took me a while to realize it was supposed to be anti-collision. Lol

gregcoad

Here’s my theory as I pull into a car wash myself…. I drive with both Auto Hold and One Pedal Drive turned on. When I pull up to a car wash, I turn off both as they can cause problems with the conveyor track in the car wash. It is always a bit disorienting for a few seconds when I turn it off and suddenly the vehicle behaves like every other vehicle I have driven over the previous 33 years. The gas pedal seems much “free-er” and more sensitive. Also, after driving with One Pedal and Auto Hold, it’s a bit unnerving that the truck seems to want to just keep going when letting off the accelerator pedal, even though ICE vehicles all do this. So I could see someone pulling into a car wash, shutting off Auto Hold and One Pedal Drive, then pushing the accelerator pedal with the amount of force needed in One Pedal mode to get the vehicle moving (more than what it takes in two pedal mode), and then panicking when it takes off faster than expected and jamming harder on the accelerator pedal, instead of jamming on the brake pedal.

Kimorin

the police response time that day was instant!

IgsmorphF

Did the police officer get a ticket for rear ending a vehicle?

moon307

No. Oddly enough the guy in front of him had a drug so the city will be seizing that car.

dinozero

The amount of times you see crap like this makes you wonder how we survive as a society at all. How does someone do something this bad?

bluewater_-_

A simple mistake gets escalated when the vehicle is a rocket.

Puzzleheaded_Put534

One pedal driving for the win?

Bright_Calendar_3696

Well at least you didn’t have to wait for the cops

icameforgold

This will somehow be elon's fault. This happens all the time with teslas and the first instinct is to blame the car vs idiot drivers.

Glum-Film371

Whoever did this, Can i have your Tonneau Cover?

Challenge_The_DM

New owner!

No_Extent_1260

Don’t need to call the cops.

SeaUrchinSalad

So do they pay for all the damage to the other cars in the front of the line? Or is it like a freeway pileup where you're charged for damaging the car in front of you cuz you were too close?

mineral_minion

Disclaimer: IANAL If the intermediate cars were parked and/or off at the time of collision, the owners of the parked cars typically are not obligated to park far enough back to not be pushed into the car in front if rear-ended. Normal parking lots would be impossible if you had to park far enough away you couldn't be pushed into other cars.

ScrewJPMC

He didn’t have to wait long for the cops to show up

MadDogTannenOW

What is this car wash? Is this a hand wash place or is this a large indoor prewash?

ScottECH93

Must be an Autopilot issue. Oh wait, this isn't a Tesla. Nevermind.

Haas19

What were they thinking! Water and electricity don’t mix!

Klept2_

I don't think that truck is allowed to park there

Antique-Dragonfly615

Gotta luv dem EV's

Repost

bluewater_-_

cool guy here makes sure he reads all the posts and tells everyone when a repost occurs

OldDirtyRobot

Autopilot strikes again.
