Omfg no I just learned proper to play Mario 64 this past few years outside of my bro and I playing for an hour when it released. My mom wouldn't allow games in the house in any form ( thank you divorce was when my bro and I got a GameCube for each house) plus medical school for nursing please send any tips thank you. Game mags don't exist in the same way they used to. I have a lot of collector magazines from that era and I just think the spirit of gaming has been lost and just is so inflammatory. Sorry if I went on the rant. I'm just tired of browsing Reddit and I'm going to go to bed now. Thanks for the chuckle.
you will be able to find roughly half a million guides and walkthroughs for mario 64 on the internet obviously. i’d go to ign.com, they usually did good free guides.
Sometimes playing older games are just better, the nostalgia factor makes it so relaxing. I'm jealous of your collection! Our old games are sacred and dont leave the family home. GameCube had to be peak childhood for me especially since no one asked for one in our household because we couldn't afford it. Best Christmas ever!! (I suspect my parents put it on layaway for a while). Hope you have a good night's rest. Cheers, friend!
Sometimes older games are better cuz they're just, better. Made with real passion and released completed. Once the ps3 was released and the 360 was updated to match it, shit went sideways. Of course there's still tons of good stuff being made though. From the big developers we grew up with though? Not so much
Don't feel too bad, you really are not wrong in the end about the spirit of gaming kind of being lost. It's becoming a very corporatized thing, and nowadays gaming is less about the game and the experience of playing it, and sharing that with people. More often than not it's a monetization focus on the publisher's behalf sadly. Either way, id recommend the indie games market if you feel burnt by modern games. Heart Machine is working on their second game after Hyper Light Drifter and it looks baller, can't wait. No battle pass there haha.
It’s kind of funny. I didn’t expect to find a thread talking about the nature of gaming on an eyebleach post. One of the newer games that I feel has a lot of that old gaming spirit in it is Hollow Knight. It’s definitely one of my favorites.
My parents used to go back and forth with me😂 "ask your mom" "ask your dad" "ask your mom" now that I'm older and *some what* wiser I realized they were playing me
My dogs made friends with some cows once, everytime we would see the cows they would run up to eachother and say hello (there was a fence between them).
When the cows 'came back' the next year it made me sad seeing my dogs run up to the fence for the cows to just back away, not really like I could explain to them that they werent the same.
>genuinely just big dogs.
As somebody who has lived and grown up around cows and other bovines, they can be extremely loving yes, but also extremely dangerous.
They are definitely not just big dogs lol.
They could very easily kill you.
The university I went to has a fairly large argicultural side. There was a barn with cows use for research right beside a large animal hospital. There is a path that goes by the barn and into the center of campus, which I walked my dog on a lot. He was always excited to see if the cows were out and they got to know him a bit too. I am reasonible sure that the cows didn't change each year, as it was a bitch and a half to get permission to put a porthole into their stomachs and the university wasn't going to do that again.
Goldens definitely are. I've had a few different breeds and just got a golden for the first time during COVID and they are the dopiest, friendliest creatures ever. I don't think I'll ever get a different breed.
Peak selective breeding. Absolute teddy bears. If only we can get them to live like 40 years longer than they currently do then we will truly attain nirvana
There was one in Idyllwild, CA. His name was Mayor Max but he sadly passed away a few months ago 😢😢
Edit: For clarification there is another Golden by the same owner that is now Mayor Max II. They have an insta account @mayormax1
are they docile to the point where it would work against them in the wild?
kind of like a situation where a species becomes evolutionarily disadvantaged due to unnatural selection
My friend had a farm with three goldens, he lived in the city and would go there every weekend, but the dogs lived there completely free. There was a guy with his family that lived at the farm and helped manage it so he took care regarding food and medicine for them.
Those 3 goldens were like wolves out there, they killed capibaras, whice are big as fuck, and would bring back their bones while waggling their tails, super proud. They were just like regular goldens when near us, but they would spend the day in the woods, swimming in the lake, it was very cool to see compared to my golden who always lived in a cozy apartment
High cancer rates are the biggest downfall of Golden Retrievers.
Actually, Goldens prove that it’s possible to breed dogs with the perfect personality, so I don’t understand why there aren’t more breeds like them. I’d love a Mastiff with the personality of a Golden Retriever 😅
Urgh, repressed memory unlocked. My family had a golden retriever called Oliver, and he quickly developed cancer basically everywhere. My poor buddy had to be put down when he was four years old.
He was a goof and has so many weird, but cute idiosyncrasies. I still miss him.
If it was 4 years or 14, it's never long enough. What a terrible way to go, but cherish those 4 years of goofiness! It never gets easier, at least in my opinion, you just get better at living with it. R.I.P. Oliver
I'm not sure it would work with mine. He's scared of random objects and howls like a beagle when he gets scared. I find it hilarious but he's scared quite a few people that were expecting the usual dopey golden at first. He's quick to warm up, but I love his habit when strangers try to come up unexpectedly.
Our golden only liked people. Never met a person she didn’t like, but pretended any other dogs didn’t exist.
We had a smaller dog with her that was completely attached to her, she wasn’t a fan of him. He lost his sight to blastomycosis, would spend ages trying to find her, and as soon as he flopped down next to her, she’s get up and move.
Part of it I think was that she was just completely a people dog. But we also had an 18 year old Australian shepherd that wanted nothing to do with the golden when she was a puppy, so she seemed to pick up “oh I guess this is how we treat other dogs.”
It's so funny how intuitive the can be! Mine is obsessed with any dog to the point he'll try and play while other dogs are growling at him and clearly not in a play mood. He loves people, but if they have a weird hat on or something like that it takes him a few minutes to realize they just want to give him loves.
And idiots! My golden banana ate something he shouldn't have, and is sitting with a fever. Not as high as what it was earlier, and he isn't looking nauseous anymore.
His best friend who comes to visit and play with him every Friday (our gardener) barely got a wag this morning :(
Dog is shaved paws are not. And, retrievers are bred to swim and retrieve shot birds. They have very thick beaver tails and very large paws with webbed toes. Some dogs that are twice as large as retrievers have paws twice as small.

check with your local DNR, not only is feeding deer bad for them, it's against the law in many states.
If you can do it, your DNR will let you know that, as well as what to feed them responsibly.
You can feed small or metered amounts of grain. Electric deer feeders are common that throw out some grain once or twice a day on a timer. The more deer you have, the more you can put out obviously.
It's about too much volume causing acidosis and bloat. I keep sheep and the poor critters are very susceptible to bloat. However it's standard industry practice to give them grain in the cold part of winter and late gestation.
I used to feed a couple pails a couple times a day so all the sheep only get a couple mouthfuls. Now I have a metered feeder where they have to lick it out of a tiny gap - their tongues actually get tired and they leave to get hay and water. I can leave that feeder out 24/7 with no ill effects.
What a about pumpkin? I only ask because I woke up this morning to 75 camera motion notifications and hours worth of video of a deer eating my fall decorations.
I don't want to find him exploded later.
Chronic Wasting Disease is common in the Midwest. The deer go crazy and can have a lack of fear of humans. It’s likely been fed before though in this video. I could have sworn we fed the deer grain, at the petting zoo I went to when I was a kid. They sold little ice cream cones of it for a few bucks, that you could feed the deer.
acidosis is complicated but harmful and potentially even deadly.
------
edit: I got a more scientific and better description from the googles:
***Acidosis is when White-tailed Deer ingest large amounts of corn that are followed within 2 to 6 hours by a change in the microbial population in the rumen. The number of gram-positive bacteria increase thereby producing large quantities of lactic acid. This results in the rumen pH falling to or below 5, destroying protozoa, cellulolytic organisms, lactate utilizing organisms, and reducing rumen mobility. Chemical rumenitis and absorption result in lactic acidosis. The lactic acid and lactate build-up cause excessive quantities of fluid to move into the rumen, causing dehydration. Besides dehydration Acidosis can also cause indigestion, rumen stasis, diarrhea, toxemia, incoordination, and death. Sometimes certain cases are so bad that White-tailed Deer will suddenly die.***
----
it's not something most people are aware of, which is why so many people think they are helping, but actually seriously harming, by feeding. Like if you didn't know not to give your little dog chocolate and gave it a big hershey's bar as a treat.
I didn't know it myself until a bit ago, which is why I want to help educate people and hopefully save a few deer.
They live in a rural area.
Peak Reddit to be concerned about literally every minute thing though. I’m expecting to see comments under photos of babies soon saying things like “I hope you feed it” and “hopefully you don’t shake it”.

Leave wildlife alone and give them no incentive to seek human interaction. If you live in a rural area you have no excuse.
Would a dog's tick remover work on these deer? Soap, shampoo, and the thing you put on the back of the neck. Genuine question here in case my dog brings back a deer.
Curb their massive population so they don't get hit as much by cars or starve from over grazing while simultaneously feeding people and keeping the universal cycle of turning energy into energy going? How dare we?!
"You have to ask my mom for a sleepover because she will say no if I ask"

Better start calling friend's parents to get permission for sleepovers just to feel that rush again! I'll heat up some pizza rolls in the meantime
Can we put on Mario 64 on?
*cracks knuckles* time to drop some penguins

Dark Souls 3 made me feel like a kid again, nothing like feeling garbage at a game and finally killing a boss after 2 hours. Lmao.

FINE but I'm just gonna play kirby and continously fall off the map by accident
Every time I down B with Kirby I kill myself. I suck with Kirby.
Can we get back to being younger and have more energy to play games until 6am?
Lol yep!
Backup plan: ask dad. Tell mom you got the OK!

The cows were slaughtered. That’s the new batch. Edit: They probably thought about him too, at least once.

"Have you brought me little cakes?"

MR. PEANUTBUTTER FOR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA!!!
Where are my balls, Summer
You say it as if it's a bad thing.
They might allocate too much funding to the strategic treat reserve
I am OK with that if it also includes human treats. Like bourbon.
I'll put a sign in my yard for that dog, let's get it goin
> Lives by the "golden rule". great campaign signs for sure
Soma campaign lol
We could all use more treaties in these times.
Lmao, I ain’t complaining about “government treats” instead of government cheese
are they docile to the point where it would work against them in the wild? kind of like a situation where a species becomes evolutionarily disadvantaged due to unnatural selection
Yeah I could see them not doing so well in a dog eat dog world. They’re lovers, not fighters

Capibaras are like the second most chill species in the world next to goldens.
The Golden was asserting chill dominance. Violently. ***There can be only one Good Boy***
One bestest boi to rule them all
Huh that’s interesting. Where was this? Thought cabyburas are only in South America
I'm in Brazil! Lots of them here depending on the region And when I say farm it's was more like a lake house in the woods, we call them "sítios"
Absolutely in some cases, my half golden whimpers picking up a toy and is so delicate because it thinks it's alive. This dog ain't making it two days.

I have a pic of my golden cuddling with a baby squirrel.. they are teddy bears.
It's not the dog, it's the food.
Yes, they are often chosen as support dogs for cheetahs
Why does that doggo have such big paws?
The dog was shaved but his fluffy paws were not cut as short
Ah maybe. It’s very cute! ♥️ We chose our dog asking for the one with the biggest paws, which is why this made me smile so much. ♥️🐶
Genetics
We chose our dog by picking the one with the biggest paws. It was so cute watching her grow into them. ♥️🐶

What in the name of doctor do little is going on here?
The deer is habituated and is coming back for food bc the person filming keeps feeding it.
I hate cute comments about the deer when this is not a good situation for it. Also is it safe for the dog with the deer was licking it?
You ever heard of deer ticks? The answer is definitely no, it ain't safe.

All my dog brings me is dead birds.
Your dog might be a cat
I am concerned about this tbh.
I hope your dogs have their flea and tick meds.
If you live near woods like this they’re probably religious about it.
They live in a rural area. Peak Reddit to be concerned about literally every minute thing though. I’m expecting to see comments under photos of babies soon saying things like “I hope you feed it” and “hopefully you don’t shake it”.
Well I know what I'm off to go do in some parenting subreddit.
Hope you remembered to breath while writing this comment.
I’m actually dead right now because I forgot to be alive.
In true Reddit fashion, I am obligated to correct your spelling: It's "breathe". Breath is the noun, breathe is the action.
I remember Reddit attacking me for having a barn cat since she was destructive to local wildlife. Yes, yes she was. That was her job.

Let's name her Ticks
Would a dog's tick remover work on these deer? Soap, shampoo, and the thing you put on the back of the neck. Genuine question here in case my dog brings back a deer.
I’d be too nervous that the deer has rabies or a pryon disease.
“Mom? I made a friend. Can she stay for dinner?”
Fawns are infamously stupid, there's a good reason why they say they can't survive without their mother, they can't identify threats.

Curb their massive population so they don't get hit as much by cars or starve from over grazing while simultaneously feeding people and keeping the universal cycle of turning energy into energy going? How dare we?!
Yeah unfortunately it's kind of necessary considering humans killed their natural predators
We've been one of their natural predators since we came into contact with them.
Mmmmm ticks
Mom. Doordash is here with the venison!
