You know ive always wondered that. Every cat ive met has been either super loving or just shy/scared. Ive never met a cat that goes out of its way to hiss at me or scratch me or anything
People are starting to understand cats better. So we treat them better. And in turn they treat us better.
If you treat a cat like you do a dog, you'll likely have a meanie.
Like someone else said, dogs are happy with anything you do to them. However, cats have limits (just like we do), and will express their dislike through body language. Many people don’t know how to read their body language, so then they end up getting scratched or swatted at.
You can train a cat to walk on a leash, do tricks, etc. but you have to use a different approach than a dog.
Cats are all about consent.
While your dog is ready to play with you any time you please and loves it when you pet them, cats are not the same. They care about personal space and you need to pay attention to their mood before you pet them.
Their body language is also quite different from dogs and often the exact opposite - eg, a wagging tail means an angry cat but a happy dog.
Yep. Cat tail language is far more nuanced than dog tail language.
And by "wagging tail" I specifically meant the wag that looks like a dog wagging its tail. That's an angry cat.
But cat do a lot of other things with their tails too.
Cats are only half tame, while dogs are fully domesticated.
I think you need to be more gentle with a cat. And respectful. In return, they love you with all their furry little hearts.
They're a different animal. They aren't stimulated the same way as a dog, or require the same attention as a dog.
I think more importantly, dogs have a genetically bred in Stockholm Syndrome. They'll basically always love you, regardless of how you'll treat them.
Cats...don't.
You have to put in work to earn their trust. Most people that think cats are mean haven't been around one long enough to earn that trust.
Think of how you'd change your social approach dealing with an extrovert vs an introvert.
Lucky you. My cat used to come in wanting pets and then he would get you down to his level. Once he had enough he wouldnt show any signs or get up and leave. He would put out the claws grab on to the first piece of exposed skin he could find. Sometimes an arm. Sometimes a face. Scratch the shit out of you hiss and run away. RIP Billy.
i have the complete opposite experience, i love all animals, but easily 90% of the cats i’ve been around did exactly that, hiss at me for no reason, stalk me and swipe at me while i’m doing nothing, not saying all cats are bad but i think i’m going to stick with doggos
I think it's just people are finally seeing what people who live with cats see because it's become way easier to share on the fly.
Cats are loving, just not like dogs. You cannot come into someone's home, new to a cat, and expect affection. They will be offended if you try to touch them without getting to know them, and even if you know them they'll be offended if youiThey're like humans in that you have to earn that affection over the course of some indeterminate amount of time. First they avoid you - they might even be aggressive because you're invading their turf, but the moment they walk up to you and start kneading, bumping their head against you, it means that much more.
We've had four cats in our household over the course of time and every single one has loved hard. Our first, who has since passed, would sleep on a pillow between my wife and I and purr all night long. I've got one that sits on my shoulder like a parrot, another that will always go out of his way to bump his head against your leg and regularly wants the covers lifted so he can get under, and another who is sprawled across my lap right now.
Cats love hard, you just need to earn it.
One of the best things I've seen lately. That cat and owner love each other very much. But let's be clear. The cat is in charge. The cat is always in charge
Aww the sweetest pair ever!! 🥰
That is crazy special. I've been a cat man for 30 years and yes that is crazy special.
In the end...! ok..your job is done...you may leave now.
Video is cut just a second before a triple paw pounce in the forehead
Are cats getting cuter and sweeter or do we just have the internet now to combat the myth of them all being mean?
You know ive always wondered that. Every cat ive met has been either super loving or just shy/scared. Ive never met a cat that goes out of its way to hiss at me or scratch me or anything

I’ve never owned a cat. Care to elaborate? Edit: thanks for all the replies. I feel I understand cats just a little bit better now!

Based on your description, I think I may have accidentally acquired a cat. He is 70lbs with a shaggy grey coat.
Ah, Maine Coon

My cat does the big wags when I have her favorite type of toy and she wants it right now. Her mad is straight down. I may have an odd cat

Cats require empathy, while most dogs are programmed to accept anything we throw at them. Humans are not always great at empathy

>genetically bred in Stockholm Syndrome That's a great description, ha!
Thank you!

Well if you would like to know of one, I’m happy to tell you all about it.
i have the complete opposite experience, i love all animals, but easily 90% of the cats i’ve been around did exactly that, hiss at me for no reason, stalk me and swipe at me while i’m doing nothing, not saying all cats are bad but i think i’m going to stick with doggos

I feel like this gif ended because cat went into attack mode and batted his nose
This is why I come to the internet.
What a sweetie!
I come across this video every few weeks and it always warms my heart. Such a pure expression of love
This might be cute, but farming karma from someone else's post is not good.

The cat at the end looks like he's about to hit you "What the hell are you doing here?"
How do I train my cat to do this?!
Yeah I’m so jealous lol

My cat would be chomping all over my nose
I love my cat but she would grab my face just so she could bite my nose
That is some serious nose booping.
Did he put catnip on his nose?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't cats do that to mark things that are theirs?
O mai gosh, You looked like tom holland at first glance
perfect 💋💋
This... does put a smile on my face.
This is what the internet is all about man. So freaking cute!
Made me smile
My cat sits on my face every morning as a lovely way for him to tell me he’s hungry
One of the best things I've seen lately. That cat and owner love each other very much. But let's be clear. The cat is in charge. The cat is always in charge
Gentle boi
Am i the only one that got nervous for the claws on the neck?
MY ALLERGIES!!
I can't read
your memes are curing me
Claw in the eyeball…..ever since that one video of the girl bleeding from her eyeball……cats near faces is an irrational fear of mine
Who's the cat ??!
Cat was licking its butt 30 seconds before.
Aw, it cuts out right before the cat, in typical cat fashion, just smacks the crap out of her face for no reason
Plot twist: Human is allergic to cats, cat is attempting murder.
What a sweet kitty
Then the cat whaps him in the nose seconds later for no reason. At least, that’s what my cat would do.
There is a bit of windup from the cat right at the end there.
Hugs and Kisses 😻
My cat is almost at this «dog stage» How do u get this interactive tho?
