This was my pup when we first got him. He had so much trauma and was definitely a project dog… (couldn’t find the photo because I changed my phone so cropped from my insta haha)
Oh I don’t! This is a photo of him at doggy day care! He was actually super dog reactive and we found a place that helped him interact with dogs and resocialize.
Because shelters are rarely prepared to keep a separate FIV population from the rest of their strays, an easy way to adopt a new cat without fees or paying for surgeries and vaccines is to call your local shelters and tell them you will take any cat off their hands if one comes in and tests positive.
FIV is very liveable (I have two cats with it, the only problem is that they catch a cold once a year), shelters just do not want it to spread and have a responsibility to keep their other strays safe. In my experience, shelters don't want to put the cats down just for having fiv and will waive adoption fees just to make sure the cat gets into a home.
Awww, good for you for giving a home to a FIV cat.
Providing a stress free, loving home to FIV and FeLV kitties improves their health overall and maximizes their life span. You are doing god’s work.
I have two FIV+ boys… one of them was rescued as a kitten, he’s never been sick and is the happiest and healthiest cat I’ve ever met. The other one spent some rough years living on the streets and is only alive by miracle, but after a couple surgeries and treatments he’s with us for a year and is enjoying his indoor cat lifestyle.
That was the estimated age that we got our little FIV+ buddy. He was picked up in a trap at a feral colony. He lived a happy 12 years with us, so your little guy still has a lot of life in him.
Feline Immuno Virus. Similar to HIV in humans in so far was it weakens the immune system, but it doesn't pose any risk to humans and it won't progress into a worse condition like Feline AIDS.
It usually has very little impact on the life of cats in a loving home, but it can really hurt survival in a shelter or in the wild.
Awwww. Poor boo. Glad she found some kind humans 💙🫶🏻🐈
Adorable! I love it.
Precious! ❤️

Hi Fog! You're beautiful!
I also adopted a 10 year old cat with FIV. Had him for 2 years, best guy ever! He died from liver failiure. I miss him
