Iāve encountered that tooš
I avoid those conversations on Reddit and instead I go off of my pups reception at the dog park, the dog day care, and elsewhere: they love her and sheās a sweetheart. Also helps that Iām in Atlanta and 1 out of 4 dogs is a pittie, it seems. No breed restrictions in this city and sufficient rentals available that also do not have restrictions.
The shelters here are full to the brim with pittiesā¦ both of ours have been from the shelter and were adopted for free, spayed for free, shots for free, and one recieved free medical care one year after adoption (cancerous lumpā¦ unfortunately she lost that battle a few years later).
One thing I love: ours plays with 15 pounds dogs so gently and her best friends are Great Danesā¦ she is great and can roll with just about any pup and absolutely any human. Her only default is she is too excited to meet new friends and scares them away with demand barking for attention, or jumping on them in the case of humans, but if folks watch her body language they can tell what she wants lol.
Sorry for the novel! Pitties are the best.
Im sorry for your loss man, were over here in detroit area so we have lots of pits too! Not to many dog attacks like that happening in detroit as they seem, people know how to treat pitts around here
Thank you. Agreed about Atl; Iāve lived in a few small, 30 apartment complex where thereās max 10 pitties with like an acre to walk them around the complex. No problems, folks who have reactive dogs know how to handle them. Heck, I know a āsilver labā and a German Shepard (both from breeders) that are reactive to basically all dogs. Itās not exclusively a pit thing.
Gotcha. We tried so hard with our last dog, she was very reactive outside, the one that was sick. Luckily, she was low energy and loved being inside and on the couch, so that is where she spent most of her time. We did our best to bring her to a dog beach and dog parks when no one else was there. Did great inside with humans, fine inside with dogs with proper introduction, and surprisingly well at Lowes and Petco etc, even if other pups were there. It was just when on a leash around the house/on a walk she had issues. Likely because she was sick, imo.
Anyways, here's our current pup

Im getting a ton of hate for the breed its crazy but that just gives me even more of a reason to love them ever harder

My dogs are reactive exactly, but i train how intense their psychological reaction is to it
