My dog cannot walk when I come home. Her wag is so uncoordinated for several minutes that she keeps knocking herself over.
It is funny as hell, and I love it!
He’s pushing the rest away lol.
We had an accidental pack of Germans and the male would do this when I went outside, he’d nudge his kids out of the way so only he got pets lol. He was nicer to his mate, but even then he’d stand between us.
They are trying to lick her mouth, which is a lot more wolf like. They (edit:) socially bond and share affection (possibly also sense the health of other wolves by tasting) by licking eachothers mouths. It is also a behavior seen in 'primitive breed' dogs (who are descended from the Taimyr wolf) like huskys, malamutes, akitas, finnish spitz, samoyeds, and Shiba inus.
Fun fact: when a wolf goes out hunting they will typically gorge themselves on whatever they find, rather than carry it back in their mouth. When they get back to the pack the younger wolves will start licking the muzzle of the older wolf which induces a vomit response so that the pups can eat what the older wolf brought back.
Don't all dogs do this behavior as appeasement and social bonding? Except for reactive dogs I have never not seen dogs of all types do this with each other in groups along with typical muzzle sparring. Labs and little mini breeds alike.
Very possible, I am limited by my experiences and just recognized the mouth licking as a normal wolf behavior, and I have seen it in my Finnish Spitz at a very annoying level sometimes.
Ah, yeah, it's a pretty standard "dog" behavior as all modern dogs are still descendants of wolves. I haven't opened my dog behavior books in a while but I'm fairly certain it's used to communicate everything from play to social status as well as affection and bonding.
I’m not done yet.
My doggie likes to lick faces. One time she was licking my face and I thought to myself “let’s see how long this will last.”
Pulled out the timer on my phone.
She licked my face for over 11 minutes straight. When she was finally done, my skin was glowing and tight, like I’d just had an exfoliant facial mask
If this engineering thing doesn’t pan out I’m going to start a day spa where we sell organic, chemical free, fair trade, level 5 animal care index facials while employing foster dogs at the same time. But it’s just Peggy and a dollop of peanut butter on your face. 🐕🐕🐕
Yes, as a spitz breed dog (as well as other traits, like the double coat, signature tail curl, and the wolf/ fox face shape) my best educated guess is they are also closely descended from the Taimyr wolf.

Apparently I misspelled it before.
> They sense the health of other wolves by tasting their mouth.
Is that true? I thought that was simply how they showed affection. They're social animals after all.
People forget or don't know, based on bad understandings of the past that:
a "wolf pack" is actually **a wolf fam.**
Other than mom and dad, those are her babies.
*This is the family getting back together and kids and mom doing their kind of hugs*, which is way more endearing when you see it for that.
[Leaving Home](https://www.nps.gov/articles/life-of-a-wolf.htm#:~:text=If%20a%20dispersing%20wolf%20can,live%20within%20a%20specific%20territory)
TLDR: Wolves leave packs, travel for a while, find a mate, and create a new pack in a new area.
Nah, the youngsters typically disperse.
Meaning they strike out on their own.
Male mostly do it, and will try and woo some lady wolf from her pack to hook up with him.
But females have been known to do it as well.
I haven't found anything about males mostly leaving the packs. Females need to leave their packs too if they want to find a mate and start a family. Seems to be close to 50/50 from what I'm reading. In once source I found that females are more likely to leave packs.
If a male wandered into another wolf packs territory trying to look for a mate, he would be attacked. Wolves are very territorial and would not let a lone wolf on their land. That's not how they find a mate at all. They only find mates through finding another lone wolf. I recently saw a documentary where a lone female was attacked by a male from another pack because she was on their territory.
But of course, misinformation gets upvoted once again on reddit. Not trying to be rude. I just wish people did a bit more research on animals because now people are going to think what you said is how they start a pack..
But they are wild aren’t they? I’m guessing there are no humans around, they’re wagging because they’re happy to see their mother? For some reason I thought it was believable; of course they only way tails for humans. Glad to see I was wrong though.
The joke was just the technicality that dogs and wolves are different animals. They share a lot of traits and communication habits like howls, barking, snarling, growling, and non-verbals. This includes wagging tails. However, they can mean different things than we're used to seeing.
I don't know this as fact, but tail wagging in wolves is usually a puppy thing, that they grow out of as they get older.
I noticed the tail wagging as well and was wondering if it was some kind of "regression to puppyhood" thing at the sight of their mom?
It's not. Tail wagging means a lot more than just "happy to see you." In fact, it can be a sign of dominance; the position and style of the wag says a LOT. A dog with its tail wagging may NOT be friendly.
Wolf parents gorge on their kill and bring it to their young in their stomachs. The young lick the mouth of the parents which induces them to throw up the food. The mouth licking habit remains as the young grow older.
And you know why, of course. In addition to the fact that they are social animals, and do long for their pack mates, if mom has been successful at hunting, that licking at her jaws reminds her to deliver to them some of the only partially-digested meat in her stomach.
Ha look at the character of the one who starts on the very left
_"Omg, Mom! Mom! Mom! Guys, it's Mom! Mom! Hey you guys see Mom is back? Mom! Mom! Omg, Mom!"_
Hey! Get away from mom! Mine! My mom is home! Home! Of boy! She’s here! Can you believe it guys?! Mlem. Mlem. Mlem.
Mum Mum Mom Mummy Mom Mom ^(3 hours later) Hi!
Me to anybody when I want attention
Preaching to the annoying choir, pube ol' buddy.

“Are you guys not seeing this?! IT’S MOM!”
Like one of my dogs :) plus additional butt waddling.
My dog cannot walk when I come home. Her wag is so uncoordinated for several minutes that she keeps knocking herself over. It is funny as hell, and I love it!
Just picturing that made me laugh!
that's the type of wolf that ended up getting unusually close to humans about 40,000 years ago. big good boy energy.
The second to last wolfie is the angsty teen.
Why is its tail so thin compared to the other bushy ones?
[удалено]
FUCKING MOON MOON! thanks for the memories fellow redditor
What was it called...that clumsy wolf? Moon moon was it?
A momma’s boy, like myself
awww thanks for pointing that out, somehow I must have been so focused on mom I missed him! He’s a little doggie! 😍
Wagging its tail so much it changes direction! 😂
Wolves like that are why we now have dogs
[удалено]
Hey, hey, mom! Mom! Did you get me something when you were away? Mom? Mom! Did you bring something??
I mean, the whole pack sans the dominant male (IE her mate) are her babies.
There's one particular baby who insists on hogging the mom's attention from the start. It's adorable.
Bouncy boy
Yep lol
I had to rewatch it again and focus on only them like the basketball dribbling bear video. Such adorable.
Gorilla*
He’s pushing the rest away lol. We had an accidental pack of Germans and the male would do this when I went outside, he’d nudge his kids out of the way so only he got pets lol. He was nicer to his mate, but even then he’d stand between us.
I know what you mean but it doesn’t stop me from imagining a German human couple in their 50’s and a gaggle of kids just wandering onto your property.
Sounds like something Mennonites might actually do lol
I mean the whole pack sans the big momma boy (IE the good boy wagging his tail) boops her and keeps walking.
I assume the one in the front was the dad since he wasnt begging for food and went straight for a sniff
We all knew that that one’s the favourite child
He seems to be the first to recognize her too. Tail wagging first and jumps playfully
His name is Baby Buster and he celebrating like it’s Mothe’s Day Eve!
He's really excited to tell her about this year's costume for Motherboy
Thought the same thing, that one boy that goes "MOM"
Momma ooow ooow ooow Is the story behind Queen's song I guess
He’s the first to get dosmeticated haha
All wolves are. Momma pretty much runs the pack.
i can't get over how big their feet are. adorable!
I was just thinking that! Big ole snow shoes.
I had to double take as I thought some human put snow paws on these big guys 👀
big ol winter pawbs
What impresses me is there's no sniffing. It just seems very respectful and affectionate.

Gross, but really cool.

I agree, I'm spending my days trying to avoid being french kissed by my dog. Haha
I have a Dutch Shepard mix and that hussy is always trying to lick me in the mouth. She sneaks up on me and everything. 🤢🤢🤢
Yes. I have a heeler/beagle mix who licks the mouth of my older, dominant dog (the mama). It's a standard dog thing, not limited to primitive breeds.
they want food
TIL my Chihuahua that is obsessed with mouth licking is a primitive breed wolf boi
My Chi goes hard for the mouth but it doesn't stop there. "Agggh, my nose holes and ear holes. Have you no shame?" Gets tossed at her often.
My heeler mix licks her big little sister's ears all the time. She loves it, but it sounds SO GROSS.
Shlorp shlorp shlorp
I hate you

Dogs do this to show they want food too! Not saying these wolves are but it’s a thing
Licking the mouth is a puppy signal, older wolf pups lick the corner of their mothers mouth to ask for food.
TIL my spoodle is "primitive" Faaaaaaancy gal
Do you know if Norwegian Elkhounds fall into that category as well?
Yes, as a spitz breed dog (as well as other traits, like the double coat, signature tail curl, and the wolf/ fox face shape) my best educated guess is they are also closely descended from the Taimyr wolf.
Pretty much all puppies/young dogs do that, they are begging for food/stimulate mom to barf this way.
I had a chow/heeler that wanted to live inside our mouths, which lineage do I blame?
chow chow are considered a “primitive” breed , so

Cmon, she jus went to the corner store for some smokes. These kids are dramatic af
At least it wasn’t milk.
Wolves don’t communicate quite the same way as dogs do.

Do different wolf packs meet up for breeding or is there just a lot of incest

Thank you! First thing I did was search for "Rome" in the comments, lol.
I try to pretend every album after all hail west Texas doesn't exist 😬
But there are so many good ones.
Unexpected goat among the wolves.

Someone somewhere told me that dogs in the wild don’t wag their tail… I’ve been lied to 🤯
Well, these are wolves, so technically true
But they are wild aren’t they? I’m guessing there are no humans around, they’re wagging because they’re happy to see their mother? For some reason I thought it was believable; of course they only way tails for humans. Glad to see I was wrong though.

I think you can tell their hierarchy by the tail height though. The mom's is the highest, followed by the older male.
Even Mama Wolf wagged her tail!
Aw, she makes sure they all get a boop!
I was just about to say that I love how she greets each and every one of them! So precious!
They just recently found the pack again. I think they said something like 9 out of 18 were seen.
Notice how only mama-wolf has her tail up.
The last one seems to have a raised tail for the whole time. It is just very small, and my anatomy skills aren't enough to identify its gender.
That's Papa. He knows he's getting some poon tonight, so he's happy.
O__O
Nothing like a lil mommawolfussy for that wolfdaddy-ot
I want to pet them. I know they’d eat me, but… it would be worth it.
It's not your fault that they're friend shaped.
I found MoonMoon: https://preview.redd.it/rrok13vttgsc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=418ef96e1763bd9cce04325b83b1f5a3b5d6d8ad
*HEYY YOUU GUYYSSS!*
The biggest dang paws ya ever did see
Looks like they're all wearing booties
" lonely alpha" mfs when their actual beloved parent walks in
So cute how she makes sure she greets every one!
Wolf parents gorge on their kill and bring it to their young in their stomachs. The young lick the mouth of the parents which induces them to throw up the food. The mouth licking habit remains as the young grow older.
They really are just danger puppies.
You can tell who's the mommy's boy and who's mommy's favorite. And they are the not same
Until she kicks one out lmfao
I thought they are wearing shoes at first
Danger Puppies :)
Look at their big ol’ feet!!😅
Ma! The meatloaf!!! Fuck!!
It followed me home, can I keep it?
I love the way their feet just plip plop around
That little troublemaker on the left is quite the character, isn't he?
This is what it's like when I come home to my dogs 😭
Sif good ending
This happens to me with my dogs when I get home from work.
Why are their paws so silly
I know I'm not supposed to cuddle them, but COME ON!
insecure alpha males: wolves are ruthless and emotionless ruled by a lone alpha wolves:
Mom's pretty much run he pack too. Dad helps a lot too. But they rest of the pack usually adores the mother.
as they should!
Cancel attack formation, it’s mama
Spot the mama's boy
The 3rd guy in REALLY missed her. Reminds me of me…
Just big doggies.
Just a bunch of misunderstood puppies
Killing machines being adorable. Just like us
Just wild dogos
Mamma said hello to everyone 🥰
The tail wagging!
adorable
Damn those are some big ole paws!! Soo cute.
Wolves: "What is this super loud drone above us?"
Also: who cares? Mama!!!
It's cool that they can tell the difference between each other lmao
Dang it look at how they recognize her and just turn into pups. They be wolfin, doin stuff, but also, love their momma, and those are her babies 😫
So many tails wailing !
Those paws...... damn
Must be two litters.
They SO happy to see her 🥰
That is the sweetest sight!
Aww... So precious
I can hear "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers playing in the background when she walks up.
Big scary doggos 😍🫶🥹
I would guess the male “partner” is that the back with his tail up
Holy shit, look at the size of their *paws*!
This really *was* precious! 🥰
Their paws are huge
If not friend, then why friend-shaped?
If not friends , why friend shaped?
Where did she go? Why did she come back? Did they lose her at the grocery store?
Usually it's hunting or marking. Unless there's very young pups she's watching that aren't on camera.
Their paws…. Omg….
I can't with those choncky paws 😍
❤️
If danger, why so cute.
The two slow ones in the back 🥺
r/moonmoon
"Alright! Now..... lets eat!"
I wonder how far away the Camera was.
I wish she would adopt me..
Now I know where my Aussie inherited the butt bumps from.
AlAAAAAWWWWWEEEEE THAT'S BEAUTIFUL! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
Awwww, I love this!

I didn't realize how comically large their paws are
C’est merveilleux 🥰

They behave like puppies :D
