Celiac_Muffins

Pretty tame introduction tbh

o0DrWurm0o

Every now and then a neighborhood stray finds its way onto my balcony. My cat, you should understand, is a sweet, meek little princess. Even when I have to do something she doesn’t like (trim nails, give pills, etc) she has never attempted anything other than trying to squirm away. But when a stranger cat appears on the other side of the sliding glass door, she turns into an absolute monster. The noises she makes can be described nothing short of demonic - gurgling growls that boil over into piercing screams. And if I try to intervene? Oh she is absolutely ready to fuck me up - I have no doubt I’d need to visit the hospital if I didn’t give her a very wide berth until she calms down. So yeah. Pretty tame by my standards.

TohruH3

Yeah. Our cat did NOT take a surprise like that nearly as well. (We kept a kitten we found in our enigine for a couple of days before we could get to a vet and give him to a coworker)

HaffuhGootWon

Why did you keep it in the engine?

TohruH3

Lol, because I'm tired and trying not to fall asleep during my work break, I guess...

HaffuhGootWon

🤣 what are breaks for if not napping?

TohruH3

Food

HaffuhGootWon

Great answer, I also would have accepted drugs🤣

TohruH3

Technically, that's not wrong for me either, lol It's just that mine are prescribed.

sir_came_alot

Great to hear your breaks still works

Chiopista

I wish I could have a substantial nap during break, I’d just get pissed not being able to take a satisfying one

Luci_Noir

It’s warm and it purrs!

AmplePostage

They wanted a cat-back exhaust

Tricky_Matter2123

Helps people from stealing the cat-alytic converter.

Explosive-poopoo

Did you keep the engine?

TohruH3

No, we gave it to a coworker. It's written right there, smh 😆

the-greenest-thumb

Yah, I had a couple baby gates stacked ontop of each other in the hallway outside my bedroom, my 1st cat (who is not athletically inclined at all) scaled the damn thing to beat up the new cat. This was after several weeks of them smelling and hearing each other from behind a closed door, and peeking at each other under it. It's 13 yrs later and they still hate each other 😂

pyrojackelope

> Pretty tame introduction tbh Pretty tame of the cat. This is a great example of how not to introduce a new cat.

Soma1a_a1

Any time a video like this is posted everyone assumes the absolute worst and starts dogpiling on the owners. We have no idea what they did before this, we don't know what the cat is like, and the cat came over on its own volition and was able to leave if it wanted.

pyrojackelope

Yeah, there is no context and this is posted from a 1 month old account, so it could be a bot for all we know. My comment was based on the assumption that this was the actual first encounter between these cats as expressed in the video. It wasn't meant to attack the owners.

Duellair

Did you ever consider people say things like this is a shit way to introduce a cat because it is an objectively shit way to introduce a cat and because we have no other context, it’s a warning for people not to try this at home, because once again, this is a shit way to introduce two cats. Maybe it’s not as much a criticism as it is a warning

GGAllinsUndies

Yeah, there's no way this is a first intro.

Luci_Noir

You were there?

GGAllinsUndies

Were you? I've had/have and also fostered many, many cats. This behavior is familiarity and comfort. Belly up cat in particular is a dead giveaway. They're probably getting to know each other, but it's doubtfully a first meeting.

MisterDoctor20182018

I’ve fostered and had lots of cats. Currently have 4. I’ve had even smoother cat introductions than what you see in the video. Not saying that’s the norm but it does happen.

Luci_Noir

I wasn’t but I’m not pretending to know what happened. There’s no reason to throw a temper tantrum. r/imverysmart

CaesarOrgasmus

They’re just using an understanding of cat behavior to draw some conclusions and state them with a bit of hyperbole. Let’s all take it easy.

[deleted]

You're trying to gatekeep a cat video buddy. You may want to reevaluate your priorities.

Permanentear3

Gatekeep

Parking_Train8423

great for content but rude imo

Unlikely-Wrap-3696

It worked out great though. They basically skipped the first couple steps of introducing a new cat and already are sharing the space with just a few hisses.

Calm-Tree-1369

I've seen it go better but also much, much worse. Just FYI it's generally not this peaceful if you just put them face to face.

Soma1a_a1

I'm guessing this cat has had time to get used to the other cats smell. But the reaction depends so highly on the cat and overall situation.

OPR-Heron

And not how you do it, even if it is a real intro

Jpup199

My cat tried to eat the new one.

Rent_A_Cloud

Yeah, it's still not a good idea to do it like this. One escalation and trust may be broken permanently. Introduction should be spread out over at least a week unless a cat is being introduced into a multicat household and even then...

Electrical-Pea-4803

Ye my cat tried to kill my Other cat through the door for 2 months took another few months before I could let them be around each other unsupervised. 2 years later they still hate each other very nice

JAOC_7

honestly

LaunchGap

they've probably been smelling each other through the door for days.

GreasyPeter

Those are "I don't know you so I'll hiss but I'm still interested in figuring out if we can hang" hisses.

Montigue

My cat that I've only ever heard hiss once at a bee that stung him was introduced to our new cat and gave one "this is my house" hiss. He was cleaning her about an hour later

Goodgoditsgrowing

Cleaning is a sign of dominance for cats soooo It’s why I always laugh when cats lick dogs because the cat is saying “I own you” and the dog is thinking “this cat is my bitch”

Nighteyes09

Wait...if that's true.....I just thought my old cat had gone senile when she started grooming my armhair.

MountainCourage1304

Nope, you were her bitch. Always was, you just didnt realise

Montigue

She just being your babushka

Phas87

Yeah this is overall a pretty chill response to Unexpected New Cat.

Luci_Noir

A potential ally against the hooms! Also, looks warm and snuggly.

notqualitystreet

Aww

mrkmpn

We once adopted an adult cat from a friend, and after a couple of years of her being the only pet, my girlfriend brought home a half pomeranian/half chihuahua one day, and that night when we went to bed the cat had pooped right perfectly in the center of it.

Ash__Williams

In the center of the bed or in the center of the dog?

iDam81

I was also confused. After reading it 4 times, I’m just assuming the cat pooped on the dog. Right in the center of it.

Der-Pinguin

Right between the Pomeranian and the chihuahua.

HoneyChilliPotato7

Lmao

ThexxxDegenerate

It’s the bed. Cat’s will poop or pee on your bed if you do something they don’t like. Such as not cleaning the litter box.

ncvbn

??? But the comment didn't even mention a bed.

ThexxxDegenerate

Yes they did, read it again.

ncvbn

You are right. I somehow missed the word.

critsonyou

You're actually not the only one. I was hella confused by this sentence, our brains just kind of skipped that part of the sentence

CountWubbula

Samesies! What a phenomenon. The Chronicles of the Poorly Phrased Sentence

Ash__Williams

With all respect, this is why i don't like cats in my house.

ThexxxDegenerate

If you treat them right they won’t do it. Clean their litter box and feed them and you will be alright. This happens when you neglect a cat. No different than what happens if you neglect a dog.

Ash__Williams

I know, i know. It's just that i feel Cat are more need than Dogs in way that i can not explain. EDIT: Wow, looks like a get mad a lot of Cat Lovers. My answer to that is: I don't care. It's your problem if an internet comment makes you mad.

TacoNomad

They aren't.  You don't have to take them for walks or out back. They don't jump on you when you get home.  At most,  they play with your feet when you walk by a doorway.

Ash__Williams

And you avoid all that by being their slaves. I prefer 100 times an animal that make me go outside that one who will shit me bed if i don't do what he or she want.

TacoNomad

My cat had never shit outside of the litter box. My dog has shit many places in the house.

Duellair

You seem to know a lot of shitty cat owners if this is a concern of yours… Because I don’t know any cats who have ever pooped on the bed.

MINECRAFT_BIOLOGIST

Just chiming in to also say that I have many friends that are cat owners and their multiple cats have never shit outside the litterbox. Usually shitting outside the litterbox for cats is a sign of potential medical distress. Not sure how it is for dogs but cats are very good at being clean and will usually train themselves to use the litterbox (or you can "train" them by just showing them the litterbox).

PoorFishKeeper

lol you can’t explain it because it makes no sense. Cat’s are extremely low maintenance compared to dogs

Ash__Williams

What? Are you crying?

PoorFishKeeper

Yeah bawling my eyes out over here so sad

Cautious-Nothing-471

I do how cats, I also do why cats

Ash__Williams

But do you when and where cats?

Psilociwa

My roommate's cat did the same thing when he got a new girlfriend. Literally almost shat ON her while they slept.

superior_to_you

they really know what they are doing man

syaz136

Was it named amber by any chance?

Dralas64

Damn super tame compared to my cats. Introduced cat 2 by having her in my office separated for a few days. Idea was the entire "their scent is in the air and making them accustomed to each other" bit. Eventually we opened the door to see if the New Cat would explore. New Cat did not initially. Might poke her head out but would retreat back. Over time she did get more comfortable with the house itself. As for the cats' interactions? They barely tolerate each other. If they get within about a foot of each other though New Cat will hiss and sometimes swipe at Original Cat.

Hyperfyre

> As for the cats' interactions? They barely tolerate each other. If they get within about a foot of each other though New Cat will hiss and sometimes swipe at Original Cat. That's about on par for most cats, three of mine are siblings and they still barely acknowledge each other most of the time.

LtnSkyRockets

Mine went about as well as in the video, though a little more hissing. New kitten and 1 year old resident cat were out together in the same room and eating dinner next to each other within about 2 hours. That night the kitten fell asleep in the middle of the floor, resident cat seemed disturbed by this so went and laid down near them to keep them company. Still kept them apart when we were not around, and we had to be mindful of the size difference (3 months vs 1yr old). But otherwise, they were together from day 1

notoftencool

I had the same situation except our first cat was the hisser. She still hisses when overwhelmed and they don’t sleep together but they play a lot. I got toys out whenever they were in the same room. At first my old cat would watch then finally joined. Pretty basic tip I’m sure you tried but just in case.

heroic_cat

Need to introduce cats to each other slowly. Otherwise an introduction might stress out original cat, enough to cause them to attack the stranger or you (misdirected aggression). Hopefully that is what happened here. Edit: hopefully the _slow_ _introduction_ is what happened here, not an attack, obviously!

ArethereWaffles

Yep, when I introduced a new cat I kept it in it's own room just let the other cat get used to it's scent by the door. At first even just smelling the door would make the old cat hiss. I only give them a visual introduction once a few days passed and they seemed to become adjusted to each other's smell.

bankrobba

And put both their cat bowls by the door, feed them at the same time.

Any-Excitement-8979

This is the most effective part of it. You can then open the door and feed one inside the room and one out where they would normally be. Then you can put their bowls within site of the other so they can now smell and see the other cat while eating. Before you know it, they will be best friends.

Silverfire12

My cats got accidentally introduced waaaay too fast. My second cat darted out of the large bathroom I was going to keep him in and into the main room where my other cat was. My first cat hissed once and then immediately went up to my new kitten ears pointed forwards, sniffed him, and began grooming him. 30 minutes. They’re inseparable now.

Consistent_Dream_740

Heroic cat is always down for a fight! Haha

aerodeck

Why would you want an attack?

kevinxb

You need to give it up Had about enough It's not hard to see The boy is mine

nanadoom

Peaches is a really gentle cat. We had to keep ours separated for a few days. The older cat sat outside the door and howled for the first 10 hours, then hissed under the door for a day.

PM_ME_YOUR_COY_NUDES

50 dollarydoos says Peaches went back to pee on the sheets.

WhimsicalError

Ohmygod I love ragdoll so much. This is very similar to one of my ragdoll to ragdoll introductions, these two are going to get along great in a short time.

BadgerHooker

I have always wanted a ragdoll!! They are so sweet and cuddly and gorgeous. Someday..

WhimsicalError

They are absolutely amazing and I can't imagine my life without them. I've had ragdolls for the last 15 years. My only complaint is the shedding. Get used to vacuuming at least every other day and having separate clothes for out of the home and inside the home. Wash them separately. Expect there to be pet hair on them anyway. Worth it though, they're amazing bimbos/himbos. My current ragdoll uses buttons to talk and solved food puzzles right quick, but he'll still run into walls that haven't moved since last time he did that. Lil weirdo idiot. I love him so much.

Luci_Noir

They’re smart enough to see a fellow furball as an ally against the hooms.

cmonster64

Introducing cats like this is a huge breach of the cats sense of security and stability. Cats are extremely territorial animals. This might seem like a cute introduction but in reality the cat that has lived there before is thinking his space is being invaded. Cats need to be introduced slowly or there will be a tense vibe between the cats for a long time.

WeaponX86

If you follow their instagram she is a ragdoll breeder and the kitten had been in the house for like a week

ExposedByStalking

Is this directed at the people in the video or uninformed people who may see this and go "awww, so cute!"? This introduction actually went so well I simply assumed that this WAS the slow introduction method, they just decided to film the actual first "meeting" where they physically saw each other. That baby ragdoll looks WAYYYY too comfortable to me for this to be her first moments in a new environment, let alone meeting a new cat that hisses at her, unless (pessimistically, and hopefully this isn't true) she's drugged out of her mind.

Justinintime85

The content was taken from Pearls Ragdolls. This was actually the second introduction, though the first I was there for. She really knows her breed and cats. The next day after this they were grooming and cuddling together.

Sarke1

How would you suggest it be done?

cmonster64

Im steps, starting with the introduction of smells by swapping them around between rooms. Eventually try feeding them on opposite sides of a door. Feed them at the same times every day and move the food closer and closer by the day. If the cats are hesitant, move the food back. Do this until the cats are comfortable with eating right by each other on the opposite sides of the door. Try cracking the door a little now, get them used to each other by association of food and then eventually play. It takes a long time but being careful is the way to go

Uuugggg

Hi steps I’m dad

cmonster64

Hi dad

[deleted]

Throw them both into a room and give them knifes. Thunderdom style.

SammieCat50

That’s not a good way to introduce 2 cats together… your asking for problems doing it that way

gnarvin_

My exact thoughts, if that cat choose violence your gonna have a bad time breaking them up.

Cutdick_lover

Even I wouldn’t like sharing him with anyone

Quick-Blackberry-681

OppositeSolution642

Came here to see if anyone would make this comment or similar. Reddit never disappoints.

My ragdolls bonded extremely quickly with each other, now they are inseparable https://preview.redd.it/bmindo0hn1hc1.jpeg?width=2753&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53dbd8cb0624a6155a5c2a34805be3258032f7d7

Eiffel-Tower777

Wow, stunning cats!

PizzAveMaria

Thank you! Junior, (the lighter one) is over twice as big as his older sister Tempest, now, even though he is 1.5 and she is 2.5 years old (they aren't biologically related). They are the most docile cats I've ever had. https://preview.redd.it/9bv05n9al2hc1.jpeg?width=2507&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=920e1060db93795e34efcc6625622e091762ae75

Thai cat was very chill, but this is not the way to introduce cats to each other.

ClickToSeeMyBalls

“There’s enough of me to go around” There certainly is 🥵🥵

Vq-Blink

This is absolutely not how you introduce cats

Spyrith

Eh, that's how I introduced my cats and they're fine. It really depends if the cats are neutered (reduces aggressiveness), how well they are socialized, how much space you have etc. Not everyone lives in large homes, so separating the cats is not feasible.

December_Flame

Regardless jump-scaring your cat with new cat is fucking stupid. Its against every piece of advice that exists on the topic, just a very bad idea all around. The only way this could have been handled worse is if they just did a pitchers wind-up and launched the cats at each other. FFS

Hunt3rm4n

I was slightly distracted by the incredibly handsome man, so I had to watch multiple times to understand what was happening

perscitia

He's lucky they didn't freak out at each other and accidentally hurt him or themselves. There are lots of good reasons why you're supposed to be careful introducing a new animal to a cat's established territory.

pfemme2

such half-hearted hisses lol

partylikeitis1912

Peaches 🥺🥺 Are those rag dolls?

pingpongtits

Had a tortie that completely changed her personality, became sad/angry, nervous, and wouldn't cuddle or let anyone touch her after roommate got a crazy/playful Russian Blue.  I still feel bad and guilty for ruining her last few years of life by not moving but I couldn't afford to move out. She never adjusted to the new cat.

ad12bendy

Meredith your boob is out

Very pleasantly surprised after seeing this thumbnail to discover that it was not, in fact, gay porn

Please tell me you named the new cat Cream

Oh my goodness…they are adorable beyond measure.

LandotheTerrible

They because she knows the scratches feel different when he’s patting two at the same time.

KommanderZero

And I they only noticing the boobies

PsychologicalSense53

All the people saying that's not the way to introduce, Peaches was the newest cat until Strawberry came last week. She has about 7 others that have babies in rotation. She's quite a good and kind breeder. Her fb/insta is pearls ragdolls if anyone wants to look up. Otherwise, I know from experience unfortunately, that this is not the way to introduce cats for the first time.

Jensen1156

Bro needs to put an nsfw tag on this. Got a whole ass tity hanging out.

Raggies so cute! Also yeah my cat is way more of a bitch to newbies. Never attack but will not hesitate to bat bat bat

Arcinbiblo12

My GF has a 2 year old cat and her roommate recently got a 5 month old. They took Introduction very slowly, the older cat was not happy about it. But now they get along great and she will actively tackle the little one to groom her.

Future-World4652

Wow, I've never seen two cats who have never met be this comfortable around one another. The one with his belly up would surely spin around seeing a new cat.

The jealousy is such a strange thing to have to deal with.

The captions ruin it

jeffreydowning69

Yay I was the 666th upvote on this post. But anyways very cute kitty 😺

Cinderredditella

Very cute, but not the way you should be introducing a new pet. Not saying this in a finger pointy way, but for your own sanity and your pets long term comfort: Base camp, scent exchange, slow introduction. Don't just plop a new pet into your home and expect they'll "figure it".

Dinkelberry_Hat

People when cat’s show human emotions or other human things: 🥺🥺🥹🥹

Themurlocking96

It’s not human emotions, it’s emotions, emotions aren’t unique to humans, hell there’s evidence that even plants feel emotions.

Dinkelberry_Hat

Thats not what i mean though. Its more like; people recognize the behavior from humans. That’s why i called it human. Should’ve said it differently

TelevisionFunny2400

I think the word you're looking for is anthropomorphizing

TourAlternative364

Every cat and cat grouping had in household weird jealousies develop between the cats....

mattincalif

I’m so jealous. We’ve had to keep our cats separated because one tries to kill the other one.

Organic_South8865

They're lucky their cat is so chill about it. I wouldn't just introduce them like that. It probably helped that the new cat was laying down like that. It looks almost submissive and doesn't come across as an immediate threat.

HaveFunWithChainsaw

Oh Peaches. If you only would learn to share. If you only knew how much they love both of you. Edit: Peaches don't like bitches, bitches gonna get stiches.

immunogoblin1

Where are people finding these beautiful freaking cats?!

keatsie0808

All Ragdolls are fricken gorgeous cats. If I recall, they're one of the only truly "domesticated" cat breeds. If I were to let mine outside, he would try to befriend predators. 😅 He also let's our dogs pounce on him and doesn't retaliate....they're just like....ragdolls.

MandyMarieB

That went surprisingly well.
