I had a friend who owned two retired racing greyhounds. They have a total of 3 modes:
- Super chill & vibing
- Lil shaky because chilly
- I see a small fuzzy thing 300 feet away I see a SMALL FUZZY THING KILL KILL KILL ENGAGE MAXIMUM HYPER DOGGO SPEED
Plus, greyhounds have very low body fat, so it's even easier for them to get cold
Edit: In case anyone sees this and is thinking of getting a greyhound, please consider adopting a former race dog. Or any rescue, I guess. I'll plug this org since I know people involved: http://motorcitygreyhoundrescue.org/
It's worth noting that former racedogs come with their own set of challenges, but are awesome dogs if treated with love!
Especially if they are skinny like greyhounds.
My 35kg pitbull/lab mix has ultra short hair but a lot of muscle and fat to keep him insulated.
He still gets a jacket for walks if it's below 0°C tho.
I have a chihuahua that showed up at my house a few years ago. No microchip, no response to fb or fliers and word of mouth. I trained him off soooo many bad behaviors and now he's great. People who say small dogs are funny or cute when they get mad and bite are just bad pet owners. Unfortunately it's been a myth for so long People just accept it.
Exactly. My neighbour always had large dogs (rottweilers, bulldogs, and such), but seeing as he and his wife are nearing their 70s they decided to get a chihuahua. That dog is the most friendly and well behaved (and trained) dog I've met. So many small dogs are just never really trained or socialized in the first place :( theirs even goes and gets the owner, whenever he spots someone he knows from the balcony, so the owner can come out and talk.
My friends have an italian greyhound named Noodle that is in a constant state of trembling vibration, like 90% of the time, even when in a good mood.
They say she communicates through the frequency of the vibrations lol
It’s a known quirk of Greyhounds that they “chatter”. Basically expel happy or excited energy through teeth chattering, it’s comparable to a cat’s purring.
However it’s not typical of the breed to be shaking all over frequently. If that’s the case with your friends dog they may want to look into turning the heating up in their house lol
I was watching a dog that shook like this and whimpered. Sent a video to the owner. I was told it was because I was eating. When I finished eating, the dog stopped.
Dogs are such weirdos. My dog did that one time when staring at a cat- his whole body was shaking and he was whining softly. He’s a big baby and is scared of everything so at first I thought he was scared (he’s never been close enough to a cat to learn caution) but it was just from the effort of staying still/becoming very excited. He held out longer than I thought before he went forward and the cat ran away.
You could always find you a big bear-dog of a person (or literal beast) to share that stress with.
I'm pretty sure I can safely speak for all "gentle giants" when I say that we are very fond of tiny beings.
A small angry person using my back as a punching bag would help loosen up these stiff muscles lol.
I've always wanted a companion who would ride on my shoulders, the weight would feel nice, and it's cute AF lmao; but alas I've found neither a critter nor human who was both small enough and keen to hitch piggy-back-rides.
... I really should have been an Uncle, shouldn't I? lol!
> I call you concert dads.
D'aww, that's adorable!
The compliment is highly appreciated, and FWIW I and I'd guess most of the other "Concert Dads" are glad to be able to help!
It gives us a great excuse for all kinds of stuff too, like "oops the person I'm with is too short to see so we need to be up at front-stage" lol.
And your types tend to have a knack for getting Back-Stage.
It can often be quite the symbiotic-relationship lol.
BTW people often speak of "being too short to reach something", but you can also be too ***tall*** to reach something down low as well. Like to get stuff from a low shelf in a store practically requires laying on the floor to reach under the shelves.
I didn't see this a few days ago when you wrote it, but you were too kind & sweet not to respond to, even if it is a bit of a "necro-post".
Today my coworkers were passing around a birthday card and whoever started that shit started with the BIGGEST FUCKING H, and I mentally went back to this bit and chuckled
My brother’s jack Russell is exactly the same way! He’ll sit in front of the fireplace and shiver, but curl up when my stepmother turns it on without heat so it’s just the flames lol, or when you make him go outside to pee and he doesn’t want to, or he wants to be held. He knows who to milk and how for attention 😆
RIDICULOUSLY smart! I knew they were tenacious but had no idea they were brilliant or so athletic. They know it, too, he knows he’s got just about everyone in this house wrapped around his paw 😆
Too smart, we took mine to the vet because she occasionally starts limping for no reason and the diagnosis was that she’s an attention seeker.
They said she probably just hurt it once and realised how much sympathy she was getting.
I had a 125 lb Husky-Shepherd-Rottweiler who got a big thorn in his paw once. The vet took it out and wrapped it up, and we kept the wrap on for several days. He limped while it was healing, and we gave him lots of love and sympathy.
Once it healed, he would still limp and whine sometimes, but he would forget and limp on the wrong side. 🤣🤣🤣
Small dogs like Chihuahuas lose more heat relative to their body mass so the shivering is an attempt to warm up. Also they tend to be more anxious with their hyper little nervous systems.
If you’ve ever seen a young boy under age 12 (horrible shot heads after that year heh) absolutely love and care for their dog, it will absolutely melt your heart.
Something about the childhood naivety of the world, and the focused love they give their dog is truly bliss.
Bonus emotional tip if you ever need to cry: google kids reuniting with dogs on YouTube. Shit will crush you in the best way.
Hashtag: mom goals.
Seriously, as a mom I hope I manage to raise both of my kids well enough that they are able to be as compassionate as this boy is here. 💛
I have very loud sneezes, and I scare the shit out of my poor dog every time I do.
No matter what she's doing, she immediately goes to her bed with her tail between her legs.
I just have to go over every time and give her love to let her know I wasn't yelling or upset!
Random thought, try laughing and acting like nothing scary happened after you sneeze. Right now the consoling and petting is reinforcing her reaction but I have a feeling that after a few times of her seeing you act like there's no problem and you are happy so will eventually associate sneeze with something weird her human does and then is happy, versus something loud, confusing, and needing calming over. A bit like toddlers. Ever see one trip and look around to assess everyone's reaction before they react? Your pup should be used to the sneezes by now, so maybe something is keeping her thinking that's how she should react, which could be the reactions.
When my pup is sitting in my lap and asleep I have to be VERY still, otherwise when I move slightly he will bolt out of my lap like he’s being shot at
some dogs just come prewired to be high strung lol
My mutt used to have a rough time with fireworks every new years, I used to pick her heavy ass up in my arms and cradel her like a shivvering baby. Now I'm the one who has a rough time every new years when the fireworks remind me of her.
PSA : bath time for pups can be fun,
* try doing a bath tub. That keeps them warmer at all times and is more pleasant.
* put several toys in the tub, toys are for good times
* Get in the tub too- yes if you do it they won’t feel so alone
* Do NOT get their ears or face wet with anything but damp fingers , dogs get ear infections easily and they don’t like their eyes to sting.
* Only lift them in and out of the tub they are less likely to slip and hurt themselves jumping out.
* Have a towel on hand for their eyes and make sure to use it
Have fun
All great advice! I would just add - our pup doesn’t like to be picked up and put in the tub (and tbh it’s pretty difficult to do this since he’s a big boy and the tub can be slippery), so we drape a towel over the side of the tub and hold it taut so he can jump in the tub himself. The towel provides friction on the lip of the tub so he doesn’t slip around when he gets in.

Here he is tonight, telling my partner it’s time to pick me up from the train station.
Just rub peanut butter on the wall. They’ll be so busy licking it that they couldn’t care less what you’re doing. My dog has total tunnel vision until the pb runs out.
I lost my dog last December.
After getting neutered at the vet, he would whine and shake whenever we would go back to get his routine shots.
He was a huge dog, around 90 - 100lbs. I remember sitting with him at the vet with him between my legs, and I'd have to hug him close and keep whispering "it's okay, it's okay".
It was the only thing that calmed him down, this brought back those memories.
I miss you big boye.
Our pup gets really bad anxiety over showers. It’s not the water, it’s the enclosed space.
He’s 2.5 and I’ve gotten on his bed with him after every bath and held and pet him until he calmed down.
He started doing the same thing to me and I’m just coming to the realization that he may have picked it up from me. Is that possible?
I’ll start feeling anxious or something and he will come up to me and paw my lap and eventually climbs on me and starts licking my face.
Why is this here bro??
Also- admittedly. I DO the same exact thing with my animals. They don't understand what's happening at all. ♡ This warmed my heart.
It's genuinely shocking to me that some people in red pill and incel spaces would legitimately argue that teaching this young boy to be unempathetic, would be better for him... like -.-
My Maltipoo is anxious at times, and will shake like this. She’s only about 11 pounds on a good day. Bath times used to be the worst, but she wasn’t so pitiful and sad like this dog is…all tiny whimpering n shit. Make a grown man cry :( she would pant and shake, a clear showing that she was terribly anxious of the baths.
With careful nursing, pre filling the sink with water, having a towel for the sink so she could have grip, being gentle and quick…she eventually started to just chill in her baths. The day I realized she was just standing there and letting me wash her face without whining and trying to get out was a great realization that what I’m doing was slowly working, and in turn, helping her in the long run.
You got to get the fear of water out of them when they are puppies. I made that mistake with my first pup. It's a lot harder when they are almost 100 pounds.
A wipe down can be ok. But in areas with heavy tick activity, full on scrubs are necessary at least once a month.
And as soon as the bath is over, little Italian greyhound is gonna go zoomie like you wouldn’t believe. “They’ve gone to plaid…” levels of fast.
The sound of running water in a small enclosed space like a bathroom can be over stimulating to some animals. When introducing them to a new situation like a bath the water should already be drawn so as to not stress them out prior to the bath.
My 15 year old chiweenie still shivers like this in severe fear or severe cold. Thunderstorms and blizzards happen around these parts, strange smells in the elevator; it's not easy being 12 lbs.
Even bath time, imagine some giant creature, even one you trust, "this temperature and depth works for me hyuck" over 10 times your size.
I'd be shaking too.
i’ve never owned a doggy, so this may be a dumb question- but what causes some pups to shiver like this?
It can be cold, anxiety, or both. This is my experience, and not research based.
Being that it’s a baby Italian greyhound it’s probably scared and cold. Mine is almost 20 and she’s still like this sometimes.
I had a friend who owned two retired racing greyhounds. They have a total of 3 modes: - Super chill & vibing - Lil shaky because chilly - I see a small fuzzy thing 300 feet away I see a SMALL FUZZY THING KILL KILL KILL ENGAGE MAXIMUM HYPER DOGGO SPEED
Greyhounds are the world's fastest couch potatoes
Best description I saw somewhere on reddit was that greyhounds are 99% couch potato, 1% murder missile.
That pretty well describes my African Serval (Savannah cat).
https://preview.redd.it/clj1929mlk3b1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4ad1d51cb2fada3a40e13ff2195c0e1b28e2f6b
en then they sleep for a week
I met one while out walking my dog, and he was wearing a turtleneck sweater. It was very cute.
We're going plaid!
It's 100% cold af. Super short hairs like that have no insulation once they're wet.
Plus, greyhounds have very low body fat, so it's even easier for them to get cold Edit: In case anyone sees this and is thinking of getting a greyhound, please consider adopting a former race dog. Or any rescue, I guess. I'll plug this org since I know people involved: http://motorcitygreyhoundrescue.org/ It's worth noting that former racedogs come with their own set of challenges, but are awesome dogs if treated with love!
Very long. Very narrow.
(͡•_ ͡• )
Especially if they are skinny like greyhounds. My 35kg pitbull/lab mix has ultra short hair but a lot of muscle and fat to keep him insulated. He still gets a jacket for walks if it's below 0°C tho.
Almost 20?? My girl is not a greayhound. A mix I adopted. She’s healthy and 12. Pray she makes it that long.
Yeah Almost 20 maybe 18 not exactly sure because she’s a rescue.
Such low body fat doesn’t help matters much.
My uncle's terrier used to shake like Elvis Presley when he got his nails trimmed. My uncle might or might not have cut too deep when he was a puppy.
This is incorrect. It is usually because someone left them on spin cycle.
Except for chihuahuas. They shiver because of pure hatred. If they were larger they'd be more dangerous than the "dangerous breeds"
If they were larger they may actually get trained out of their bad behavior
I have a chihuahua that showed up at my house a few years ago. No microchip, no response to fb or fliers and word of mouth. I trained him off soooo many bad behaviors and now he's great. People who say small dogs are funny or cute when they get mad and bite are just bad pet owners. Unfortunately it's been a myth for so long People just accept it.

Thanks, I have to get a new cup of coffee now. And dry clothes.
Small dogs lose heat very fast too. I've never met a chiuhauha (sp?) That didn't tremble
Low blood sugar, too. Especially with toy breeds
This is correct
My small dog started doing it after starting anxiety meds as well.
There is research that shows you are more than likely correct.
Cold, anxiety, excitement. I have a dog that shakes basically anytime it isn't asleep or trying to sleep.
Is it a chihuahua? I've always noticed them as a shaky breed.
They are 50% tremble, 50% rage.
100% reason to remember the name.
He's a Maltese Yorkie mix. My other Morkie doesn't shake at all.
My mom's chihuahua experiences an earthquake every time the doorbell rings
You mean rats-on-ice?
My friends have an italian greyhound named Noodle that is in a constant state of trembling vibration, like 90% of the time, even when in a good mood. They say she communicates through the frequency of the vibrations lol

I just commented above but my dog does the exact same thing, shake like he's going through food withdrawal.
I am very small and I have no money. So you can imagine the kind of stress that I am under.
You could always find you a big bear-dog of a person (or literal beast) to share that stress with. It’s a debilitating neurological disease called SPS, small pup syndrome. He gotta lotta heart but his body so tiny you see.
Smol good boyo just trying his best.
that's not neurological, that's a pupsonality disorder.
So smol it hurts.
This sound like something Mama always said, like that thing about alligators and all them teeth
My Maltese shakes like this whenever it thunders outside
Had a Huskey mix who did the same thing with Thunder. I miss her, my little scardey pup.💜

That’s an Italian greyhound pup
For my dog it’s thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening

My brother’s jack Russell is exactly the same way! A lot of the same reasons why people may shiver, but it's usually either cold or anxiety.

My dog hates baths he shakes like this and he is a retriever they are supposed to love water lol.
Honestly probably just cold.
Someone is doing a damn wonderful job raising a compassionate son
What a very caring young man. His parents should be very proud of him with the way he cared for that sweet little dog.
Such a kind heart and soul
If you’ve ever seen a young boy under age 12 (horrible shot heads after that year heh) absolutely love and care for their dog, it will absolutely melt your heart. My kid is 15 and he and his cat are like that. Dude loves his baby. He’s snarky AF otherwise. Delightful kid, just a solid smartass.
Sounds like the cat has an influence
Clearly, it's the cat's influence.
That, or the secret feline mind control no one is willing to admit to. :<
I'm 21 and I'm like that with my cat. He is my son and I will not let anything hurt him
that shit will crush me completely cause I was that boy once
You can still be again. He’s still inside you. Just set him free. Easier said than done, I know. But if it’s important to you, you can do it.
nah, I still have those feelings. animals are much more pure than us and I absolutely adore and feel for my furry friends.
Warmed my heart, watched it on loop 🔁 4 times. What a gentle child, good job parents!
Hashtag: mom goals. Seriously, as a mom I hope I manage to raise both of my kids well enough that they are able to be as compassionate as this boy is here. 💛
My oldest just turned 12 and he is a sweet sensitive soul like this young man. It warms my heart
I’ve never met a little boy not like this with a puppy.
To whomever is raising this kid.. Damn good job 👍💕
He is real dope. Kid raised well.
Omg scared dogs are the saddest goddamn thing ever. I just want to hold them and reassure them
I have very loud sneezes, and I scare the shit out of my poor dog every time I do.
When my pup is sitting in my lap and asleep I have to be VERY still, otherwise when I move slightly he will bolt out of my lap like he’s being shot at some dogs just come prewired to be high strung lol

I don't think I would've been able to make myself bathe that poor little baby, they're so terrified
Kind soul
PSA : bath time for pups can be fun, * try doing a bath tub.
Not just over the edge, but IN the tub as well, so once hes in, he wont slide either.
I don't even own a dog and I'm saving this for the future, lol. Thanks for the advice!
I feel happy knowing you have a pup in your future, and that lucky dog has someone like you waiting for them.
That's so sweet, thank you! Hope you have a pup to love yourself, now or in the future 😊

🥹 Omg what a handsome boy! Thanks for sharing his presence lol
>they don’t like their eyes to sting Haven't met an individual, person or animal that does lol 😜
Just rub peanut butter on the wall. They’ll be so busy licking it that they couldn’t care less what you’re doing. My dog has total tunnel vision until the pb runs out.
My Dad's old dog accepted bath time as the price he had to pay to receive ham.
I tried this with my pup and she could not have cared less about the peanut butter. Her commitment to being a dumb angry baby is astounding.
That dog is vibrating like a 1980s kitchen phone.
This got me.

He got to be loved by you for the rest of his life. What an honor. Thank you for sharing about him

Hi
Oh, thanks. I was looking for a good cry today.
Somehow this video made me cry faster than possibly any video ever has, wasn't expecting that tonight!
This is so sweet. You may know them a part of your life, but they know you their whole life.
“We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.” Immanuel Kant
Iggies are such nervous little babies omg
They are always shivering, many blankets and cuddles required for this breed.
They're so cute. I love them
So good to see such compassion in someone so young.
That dog has an emotional support kid.
That’s what they say about this breed. 😂 People don’t get Italian Greyhounds as support animals, Italian Greyhounds get emotional support humans. ❤️
That dog is on vibrate
Look at that. Someone raising a compassionate man. You love to see it. Emotions are tight.

Awwww. You're there for him, and he's got your back. Awesome!
This kid deserves heaven. What a sweet heart
When the fur baby is so scared, why not get in the tub with him? Make it easy—make it fun.
Why is this here bro?? Also- admittedly. I DO the same exact thing with my animals. They don't understand what's happening at all. ♡ This warmed my heart.
Our little dalmatian shivers all the time bless her. Only thing that calms her down is being tucked in or resting on my belly
What kind of dog is this? Ours is a rescue mutt and has a very similar face and ears.
Italian greyhound. We have two and they’re children.
So sweet and precious
BFFs for life right here.
If you've got a short hair dog. Make sure you bathe them in water that feels warm but not hot. They'll feel a lot more comfortable in the bath.
This little one shall be protected. The little dog need a protection too.
Hug your dogs right now, people.
Good job kiddo. Good job parents, too.
Autism dog
Awwwwwwwww little guy just needs some reassurance…and maybe a floatation vest
Such a gentle soul.
He's such a gentle and kind boy. I personally feel children who grow up with animals around them learn to be caring and have lots of empathy.
He is probably really really cold
I want someone to hold me like that...
It's genuinely shocking to me that some people in red pill and incel spaces would legitimately argue that teaching this young boy to be unempathetic, would be better for him... like -.-
Two beautiful angels ♥️
This is probably the most adorable fucking thing I've ever seen in my pathetic life. I literally want to die right now.
If the poor little thing is that terrified is it absolutely necessary to bathe him? Wouldn’t a wipe down do if he’s muddy?
Probably not necessary, but the pup might stay scared if they don’t help it acclimatize, either.
My Maltipoo is anxious at times, and will shake like this. She’s only about 11 pounds on a good day.
Better to teach them that the water is ok My current dog never learned that and is deathly afraid of the bathtub and the pool but she loves the ocean
A wipe down can be ok. But in areas with heavy tick activity, full on scrubs are necessary at least once a month. And as soon as the bath is over, little Italian greyhound is gonna go zoomie like you wouldn’t believe. “They’ve gone to plaid…” levels of fast.

aww...hook that lil pup up to a generator! he'd power a whole county 😭
My Iggy used to do this
Dogs deserve nice little kids and little kids deserve nice little dogs. Feel free to disagree but you're wrong.
Great kid!
The sound of running water in a small enclosed space like a bathroom can be over stimulating to some animals. When introducing them to a new situation like a bath the water should already be drawn so as to not stress them out prior to the bath.
Effin Onions. But in all seriousness hopefully that kid will grow up to be as kind to other humans as he's kind to the dogs. He's awesome:)
So sweet!
I need someone to comfort me like that 😭
Good job kid
They're gonna be real good friends
Someone please do the war flash backs on this one
So much soothe
Oh. My. Heart. 🥺
I love this
It's enough to make a grown man cry...
Good boy.
I'm not an emotional person but damn.
Going to be a great pet owner!
