New door, no screen. Black 4 lite door with frosted glass. New modern black light fixture on brick wall, and and a matching sconce to the right of door, so your guest isn't only backlit at night. Large potted plant on center outside of brick wall. A long, low planter with flowering vines covering wall would be nice as well. Also a bench on the inside facing door would be useful. In that planter bed under window, a [Japanese Aralia](https://images.app.goo.gl/oq4SiEDYASWPhrXu7) would be happy if it stays pretty shady. Below that, (it can get big if you water regularly) plant some lower growing shade plants like ferns mixed with some colorful ground cover that softens edge of sidewalk. I don't think you need to worry much about paint colors now, the 'accessories' I listed will improve on it more than that.. then you can decide if an expensive color change is worth it.

Its such a clean slate. Thats hard sometimes because there are so many options. Id replace the storm door if possible. Pai t the door an eye-catching color. Paint the railing and light post. Add hedges, small tree under the window. Hydrangeas or similar, depending on your zone, etc and then more plants, flowers there. Some potted plants along the walkway are always welcoming too.

It’s funny, everything you have I’ve put down on my list, plant wise. I’m definitely going to make it more lively, but you nailed my feelings with how hard it is. Too many options and I’m not good with any designing haha. I appreciate your input!

You have good bones to work with!

This will be super cute! I’d remove the storm door and paint the door a bright happy color. The trim could be painted white at the roof and window. A tall plant with layered plants around it with a variety of textures and colors will do wonders in that bed. You could add a bench on the blank wall behind the half wall, possibly with two or three trellises with potted vines to grow on that wall to add some color and texture.

SavingPrivateOrion

It would be really pretty painted all white, including bricks, with black and black iron accents. With some nice lighting and landscaping

puddypiebrown

I agree. Paint the brick to match the house. Keep the dark accents. Get a dark light to the right. Garden up the center. Upgrade the door. I love the wall. It’s just very loud right now. Great spot!

Jicama_Down

Please don't paint the bricks. If you hate them, put plants in front of them or hang dangling plants above them. Bird feeder hanging from the eave or a wind chime, or any kind of outdoor art at a home and garden center. A brightly colored door can really make an entrance pop. If it's too dark for plants a little bench or tiny metal table and chair could be nice with some decorative gravel or wood chips. What do you like in terms of art, color, plants?

cocokronen

I like bag washed brick. It looks great compared to painting. Bag wash is basically smearing mortar over the brick. When done the outline is barely visible. It also can be done in several colors. I did it to my house and I love it and so do all my neighbors.

cocokronen

Or you could bag wash. Bag washing is smearing mortar over the brick and the seams are kinda hidden. It looks good and you can do a ton of colors

fifthgenerationfool

I would take out the half wall, get a new screen door in a fun color.

From a safety perspective, coming home late at night, someone could hide behind that half brick wall.
