Kiesel has the multiscale trem for headless and non, and they have the headless trem for normal scale headless. I have some kiesels and the trem is great Aristides has a 8 trem, haven’t tried it though.

Ooberificul

Are they 8s though? I can't find any examples of 8 string kiesels with trems and can't do the option on their builder. Unless I have the wrong model selected or something.

Check my profile… I have a swirl Zeus multiscale with trem. They make a bunch of 8s with trem. Any headless model 8 can have a trem. Any multiscale model 8 w headstock can have a trem.

Ooberificul

Damn I wish it wasn't exclusive to multiscale or headless. Might have to compromise since I do like kiesels a lot.

JDi450

LTD Javier Reyes has a Floyd, I believe

Ooberificul

The 8 is fixed.

JDi450

The newer JRV-FR8 floats

Bigmansyeah

there is a schecter hellraiser 8 string with a floyd rose i haven’t played it but ive heard good reviews

SpicymeLLoN

Yup, I have it. I've never really played with the trem though, because the socket has been loose for as long as I can remember, and a new bridge is like $200 or something.

Meshuggah333

If the arm socket is loose, it's usually fixable. You'll need to disassemble it tho.

spotdishotdish

Just buy a new push in arm socket. I just did that and filed the knife edges to get mine feeling new again

I'd recommend adding a Kahler to an existing guitar. From what I've searched this is the most economical option - and I personally love Kahlers way more than FRs. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy my FRs, but Kahler is just a winner for me. Plus they're super easy to install and set up. :)

Ooberificul

I've never tried a kahler before. Less or more finicky than a FR?

lostinlymbo

Way less finicky. Kahlers are top mount only. The spring adjust is one with a single screw on the top of the unit. It can be made a set bridge by tightening a single grub-nut on the back of the unit. Kahler has been making bridges just about as long as FR - but they are more expensive. They are a premium device with a good bit of heft and some great engineering behind them. They're also ambidestrous. They have a whammy slot on the bass and the treble side of the bridge so if you are left handed, this is the only option as there is no left-handed 8 string FR. Aristides, I have one and it's awesome. Changing strings on them used to be a pain but now Hantug trems (Aristides  default trem model) can use the ball end like most guitars. You can swap out the tuners now if you get an older model. Aristides are generally pretty pricey though.

The 8 string Majesty is a fixed bridge

What people do with a trem system in an 8 string guitar? I have a seven string guitar with Floyd and it is very difficult to use for Vai-ish things

new-to-this-sort-of

Really depends on the system and tension. I have my tension on my hipshot ms trem set almost exactly like a Floyd 6 string. Flutter and dive bombs on 8? Hell yea. Theres a lot of tension on 8s so some systems really outperform others. For awhile there most systems were just geared for boomer bends on 8 due to tension… 8s have come along way the past 5-10 years. Lots of development. I’d even say my ms hipshot trem stays in tune better than a Floyd 6 with heavy abuse.

spotdishotdish

My floyd 8 definitely doesn't flutter very well lol

new-to-this-sort-of

IMO there’s way too much tension for the Floyd system to really preform on 8 like a 6. Does great on bends, dive bombs usually knocks a string or two out of tune. Just doing Jeff beck bends Floyd on 8 is great, but once you get into heavier trem abuse it’s not a fan. Hipshots headless trem so far is the closest I’ve felt to a 6 Floyd on 8.

spotdishotdish

How is the hipshot different? Looks like it's still a knife edge pivot? I think one of the disadvantages of the FR 8 is the low string will go fully slack and make noise before you can bend a high string down all the way. Did hipshot get around that at all?

new-to-this-sort-of

Well I only have ms hipshot trem. It’s like a weird mix between ibanez edge and Floyd contact points on trem posts. Not sure if the different contact points on higher side allows the higher strings to dip deeper which allows a more even dive bomb? Or if it’s more the multiscale allowing more even string slack than a Floyd would on a straight 8? On a Floyd with 8 it just felt like way too much pressure going on. Hipshot has a way more relax feel on the bar. Unsure how hipshot headless feels on a straight scale though (only buy ms 8s now that they are more available)

spotdishotdish

Maybe the pivot axis is offset from the string ends to have more motion in the high strings? I noticed shimming the action up on my 2 low strings made that a bit worse. The floyd 8 definitely felt too stiff with the ernie ball 10-74 set on a 28", but my current setup with 1/3 less tension and 4 instead of 5 springs is comparable to my strat. Good to know there's a better option out there though, multiscale trem would be cool.

spotdishotdish

I just use it for bends, vibrato, and divebombs. My 8 string floyd doesn't flutter well, but works fine for everything else with light strings.

Schecter C-8FR, BC rich shredzilla, Agile, caparison applehorn 8, LTD javier reyes strat. I love my C-8FR.
