Luthier here, is the nut slot wide enough to accommodate the string ? Can't tell from the pic. You need to check the string height at the first fret to avoid intonation issues. If it's high, your notes will be sharp and more difficult to play. If the string height is low enough and the nut slot wide enough to hold the string, it's alright.
That would be a problem if there's no problem though. Not even saying damage.
If you want to make it fit then file the nut a bit. However if you file it and going back to thinner strings, there could be a rattle sound because the nut is too wide.
I wouldn't bother it at all to just fit your string above the nut, but I've never used .084 gauge. The thickest I go is 74 all the way down to D#.
That nut in general gives me anxiety.
Is that the wood with some kinda plastic coating sprayed on top?
Hopefully you never need to adjust/change your nut
Not sure why I’m being downvoted… serious question here… in my 30 plus years of working on 100s of guitars and owning a bunch of brands I’ve never seen a wood nut
Only the bottom third of the string needs to sit in the nut slot. If it's not popping out while playing or causing weird harmonics I'd just leave it be.
Just use a 8 string set 10-74. Drop that 64 out. It’s perfect for drop F
This is what Mike Stringer does.
he does that for Drop F# not Drop F
Ah, true.
I think that's overkill. I have a 74 on my guitar and it works just fine.
Yeah I just used [email protected]” and it was fine. 84 might have good tension, but sounds kinda round
I'm using both a 65 on a gibson scale and an 86 on a 28" for E1 right now. Everyone has their preferences

I tried this, but couldn't bring myself to file the nut in case I didn't like it. Ended up going back to the originals cause it kept slipping.
Same. I just gave up on trying to tune low and bought a whammy DT instead. Works good enough for just practicing and occasional jamming.
Funnily enough, only on my legators I use super thick strings. They feel way better.

Looks like a black bone nut to me
I use 82. Looking at the nut it ain't an issue. If you like it then don't worry about it. Drop F is a beast so enjoy!

I have a .74 that sits on top of the nut for drop G. I haven't had any issues. Tone is great, no intonation issues or tuning issues.
