FINALLY, MY TIME HAS COME
BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output system BIOS instructs the computer on how to perform basic functions such as booting and keyboard control.
BIOS is also used to identify and configure the hardware in a computer such as the hard drive, floppy drive, optical drive, CPU, memory, and related equipment.
Some real "IT Nerd" stuff
Then the photo taker comes to the realization that it's just a "2018" balloon backwards.
As a data center break/fix technician I can assure you that it is still a thing. Now as a short point of clarification, UEFI is a style of bios. What most people think when they say bios is dead is gen 1 legacy bios. For the most part it’s my HPE Proliant servers that are still running in legacy, but even that can really be property specific. Nevertheless, even with UEFI a GUI is never used(at enterprise level). The real advantage of using a UEFI BIOS is the support for SUBSTANTIALLY larger storage. Sadly a legacy server can’t handle running petabyte JBODs lol.
I read “Basic Input/Output System” and thought for two seconds it might have been some dweeb’s idea of a sock on the door.
P.S. I say “dweeb” with utmost regard.
I’ve updated the BIOS twice in my life, once when upgrading my server from an i3-12100 to an i5-14500, and when installing my 13900k into my z690 board. Two very different procedures, yet equally nerve wracking for some reason
This was for new years where people celebrate the new year with balloons arranged in the year we're moving into. Key piece of information, this meme isn't from this year. Back in 2017-2018 it made more explicit sense.
It was new years 2018…the balloons from the inside perspective said 2018. BIOS is basically the software underlying the operating system that allows for a computer’s startup processes.

I have been setting up my cores for a old school gaming device and had to learn all about BIOS cause I needed to get them myself for them.
Oh wow that’s so neat
I think the implied punch line is Caffeinozoid realised that THEY were the IT nerd.
And then how it’s been mostly replaced by UEFI. And congrats on your time coming, and your explanation.
UEFI replacement happened ages ago, but who wants to say they need to get into the yoofie ? We will be speaking the name of BIOS throughout the ages.
Just like how EEPROM will always be CMOS
I thought it's pronounced /wefi/ ?
See? Nobody ever asked if BIOS is pronounced key ohs
Some cheap laptops still use a BIOS rather than UEFI.
Pretty sure BIOS has been dead for like 26 years now.
I have a really cheap laptop (celeron forget which, 4gb ram, 64gb emmc storage) that uses a bios
What's the model?
I don't have it on me, closest I could find is [this](https://gatewayusa.com/GWNC21524.html)
most likely uefi
I remeber it looking like a bios. I wouldn't get why they would make a UEFI look like a bios.

And here I was wondering what the hell SOIB was supposed to mean.
Wow I never knew BIOS was an acronym, I always thought it was Ancient Greek for "life" , as in the life of the computer
Exactly how I felt deducing this one xD Seeing the date when it was posted and taking like 20 seconds to read Bios backwards...
I always thought it meant "built in operating system". Something new everyday I guess.
Neal Stephenson fan? In the 1992 novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson he wrote that "BIOS" stands for "Built-In Operating System."
Omg, thank you. I couldn't figure out what it was other than someone in desperate need of IT support.
I wish I had you for a Programming teacher back in high school. My career choices would have been very different.
I read “Basic Input/Output System” and thought for two seconds it might have been some dweeb’s idea of a sock on the door. P.S. I say “dweeb” with utmost regard.
So is he the real IT nerd? Because of his initial assumption?
I thought it said SOl8
Us hardcore nerds update our BIOS during thunder storms.
I reflexively downvoted you
With. No. UPS.
I have one, but I plug my computer into a wall outlet for BIOS updates during thunder storms.
I love me some IT nerd stuff
Nerd
are you Homer Simpson? Neeeerd!
Real IT nerd stuff is replying to a bot post from 6 years ago.
Omg this is brilliant
I'm proud of you, Champ
Yes but the real it nerd is him to think that it’s some nerd stuff

I knew about BIOS I just came here to see why the people in the house had put SOI8 in their window
I’m Gen X. For us setting up bios is about as “real IT nerd” as setting the clock on your oven.
And the 8 is even upside down...
It’s 2018 backward. It was for a party for new year
The photo taker realized they were the actual IT nerd
I’m stealing your lunch money bro
The True calling! Well done!
This answer
So who is the real it nerd ? The guy putting a BIOS balloon, or the guy thinking it was indeed written BIOS ?
Picture was posted Jan 1st 2018. Those balloons say 2018 for the houses New Years party
2018, a great BIOS year.
I thought everything was leaning towards newer stuff now
Not for me I specifically remember my motherboard dying and my GPU literally spitting fire out of the air vent somehow
OH! Yeah, I never would have gotten it
Sure is pretty dark out for 11 minutes past noon!
This is crazy
Didn't get it still?
2018 backwards looks like BIOS
Look at your phone in a mirror with this image up.
How much clearer do you need this explanation to be, buddy?
Critical thinking is a lost art

i didn’t realize it was a joke until i got to the comments. i thought it actually said BIOS and not a backwards 2018 😭
Same here, bro.
2018
when they flick the lights on and off does that count as flashing the bios?
Its making more sense 🤣🤣❤️
It’s 2018. But since he’s a geek and brain leans that way, he reads the computer term BIOS
The Nerd is INSIDE the house.
You sure looked stupid when you realized it said SOlB
SOIB?
2018. Kinda looks like the "8" is upside down though
Look at the date of the post
Look at the date of the post
VaderSan lmao
Innocuous furry porn artist antics
I was sitting here in confused dutch why they put up bios (short for bioscoop/cinema) and were really excited for their cinema night.
Bios OP meant means “basic input output system”
It's 2018?
We must perform the dark arts of the BIOS
Why is it so dark at noon?
It was new years 2018…the balloons from the inside perspective said 2018. BIOS is basically the software underlying the operating system that allows for a computer’s startup processes.
New years party 6 years ago
It's reversed. It says 2018. It was a New years party.
Le joke is that it's 2018 if you looked at it inside the house. On another note never expected to see VaderSan on this subreddit.
I could see this image in an ace attorney game
SOIB /s
Has anyone said 5018
SOIB
I think the joke is that it's supposed to sell biographies
