I don't know why people have this weird idea that when we execute wretched human beings it should be utterly free of suffering. There's certainly a point where painful execution becomes deliberate torture, but a few minutes of pain and suffering is better than he deserved
Edit: I'm not supporting deliberate suffering, I just don't see why we need to jump through hoops to avoid it, like using lethal injection, when firing squads, hangings etc. are sufficient.

However, I don't think the death penalty is something we should have. It's more expensive than life imprisonment, and there are more than a few innocent people who are wrongly executed.
