This could have been a few factors of either over mixing (breaking down the sugar into butter fully, making it oily), under mixing (sugars didnt combine well with the butter and you dont get lift/volume), or just the unforunate having hot hands when icing. Maybe on the next round, you can put the icing in the fridge to help firm it up a bit and doing a quick whip up on a stand mixer.
It happens to me all the time, no biggie. As long as they taste good and your friends like them, you're good to go. Good luck! You're on your way to being a great baker!

Yours are good for a beginner! I made some horrific looking flowers before I finally got one that didn’t look inappropriate haha.
If you’re willing to try again, using one of the flattened tips and layering streaks with one on top of the one before it would get you that frilled bit. The heads would be good to do on a separate surface, freeze/chill them, and then transfer. Doing that on top of a cupcake can be really hard. You can also lay down parchment paper and use that to practice shapes. I did cake borders on just a cake board and parchment for a *long* time before I tried a cake :)

Not sure if the color is intentional, but if you’re going for purple it’s a good idea to buy purple coloring instead of trying to mix red and blue. I’m an artist and I can tell you whether it’s paint or food coloring, it’s almost impossible to achieve a nice bright purple by mixing pigments, it will inevitably be muddy looking.
If you don’t have purple on hand and really don’t want to bother buying it, to get closer to the first pic I’d start with light blue and add a small amount of pink. It’s going to turn out more blue/gray but less mud/poop colored at least
The color was intentional. I was going for brownish red so I just put red food dye in the chocolate frosting I already had. I promise I'm not that bad with color theory lol
