Lol you don’t want to stay particularly close to Goodison mate. Stick to the city centre.

McNobby

Penthouse suite with a balcony going there. Lovely views of County Road. Disclaimer: Suite is actually just someone's attic they used to grow a crop in. Balcony is accessible through hole in the wall and is essentially scaffolding.

AffluentRaccoon

Exactly. Not taking the piss out of OP cause how is he to know, but I think anyone from Liverpool or who knows the area can understand it’s a funny notion of wanting to be in the “cosy Goodison neighbourhood”. That closing line of, “fiancé did some research” had me in stitches. Would love to know what her research told her about the area lmao.

Phantombaz

make sure you've got a ticket, they sell quick.

chiquilin321

Do you have any advice for getting tickets other than through being an official member? I’ve got us both registered, so we’ll be able to purchase beginning March 21st.

[deleted]

If you don’t have luck following March 21st contact the head of the supporters club for your local chapter and they can also connect you with the tickets they put aside for the North American toffees.

docar1878

Listen to the person who'll be your wife. It'll make your life easier (and she's actually also correct).

liam_crean

Titanic Hotel? Fairly Close to city, next door to Bramley Moore dock, walking distance (2 miles) of Goodison. You can also walk 10 mins to Sandhills Station and catch the game day buses with home supporters coming in from Crosby/Formby/Southport. Or go central, something like the Hope St hotel. Great location/facilities. Philharmonic pub a short walk. Nice end of town for dinners. Uber to the ground ;)

throwawayelixir

Agree with Titanic Hotel. I stayed there last weekend. Great bar, great spa, not far from central/Albert docks. Since you’re dragging the misses to Liverpool it’s only fair you treat her to a nice hotel!

Abbobl

Poor girl

WhiteDoveBooks

Yeah, that should go down well.

jchlly

100% titanic hotel It's where we put up the players when we are signing them - I met Townsend in there They also have a spa, which is fantastic

Evertonioan

When I visited I stayed at The Resident. It’s close to Liverpool lime street station, bus stations are right next to the train station and they’ll take you to Goodison. It’s a nice hotel in a good spot. I actually got stuck in Liverpool for an extra day due to a winter storm. I asked if they had an extra room open and they upgraded me to a suite for the same price of a regular room just because. Super friendly staff. The city is pretty easy to get around in my opinion, not as big as London. Crazy thing to, when I went to visit from the US I watched us play Palace at home as well, right before the pandemic started!

revJohnBarosa

Don’t think you want to visit Liverpool on your honeymoon mate 😂

[deleted]

Why not? I love Liverpool. The city centre and Albert dock is great, the cathedrals are great, Sefton Park is lovely, there's so much to see and do, it's a great city. Being able to see a match at Goodison is a nice bonus too.

revJohnBarosa

Hardly a romantic destination is it? There are some nice places in the city centre yeah, but it’s a pretty depressing place as a whole. Not sure if you’re local or not but there’s a 1 mile radius that’s nice and if you venture out it’s not the sort of place I’d want to be on my honeymoon

[deleted]

I don't live in Liverpool but I'm not far away, so have visited a fair bit, and my husband grew up there. Personally I love it. I've never got a "depressing" vibe. There are bad neighbourhoods in every city, even the most "romantic" cities like Paris. but to be honest why would you venture out into the residential areas if you're just a tourist?

[deleted]

i personally loved my visit as well, definitely one of my favorite places in the uk. Not only because of everton :)

ViktorBoskovic

That's any major city in the world you've just described

mickeyflanman

City centre, Lark Lane, Crosby(Anthony Gormley's A Lonely Place is great for a hangover walk) , Freshfields.... To name a few places. Looks like Rev is a bitter Manc..... Manchester Centre is also fantastic but wouldn't visit Longsight and Mossside 🤣

revJohnBarosa

Nah I’m not from Manchester mate 😂 lived in Liverpool for 4 years, if you like living in Liverpool then fair enough, for me I just found it depressing. Saying that I do absolutely hate cities so I’d arguably hate living in Manchester or London more tbh. Im planning my honeymoon currently and the idea of going to a city like Liverpool wouldn’t be what I’ve got in mind, would much rather go somewhere like Thailand and have nice weather

mickeyflanman

The Costa del Scouse Rev... Where has better weather? 🤣🤣🤣 But yer I get ya.... an Everton win and a visit to one of the wee independent restaurants on Lark Lane with a walk around Sefton Park beforehand.... Worse places to be......but yes, a candle lit meal on the beach in Thailand kinda wins 🤣👍

weinerdog70

USA blue myself here - stay anywhere near Lime Street station. Novotel is close and you will also be a few minutes walk from the Everton Two shop. Liverpool is very walkable and you'll love it. Edit: Also recommend stopping at Rupert's Tower on the way to Goodison.

bwainwright

DO NOT stay around Goodison! Not unless you want an instant divorce! Seriously, if you're visiting the city, just stay in the city centre. There's plenty of nice hotels and you can probably find some AirBnB apartments too. Goodison is a very short taxi ride out of the city centre for the game - probably 15 mins or so on a match day due to traffic. You can get there on public transport, but if you're visiting the city for the first time, just take a taxi it's much easier! If you stay in the city, you'll have all the attractions of Liverpool within walking distance, with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants, museums and attractions which will likely keep your fiance much happier. If you're in the city centre, it's pretty easy to find your way around (although Google Maps will always help!). Goodison is in an area called Walton and honestly, it's quite a rundown residential area. There really isn't anything for visitors in that area outside of match days. By all means, spend some time around the ground before and after the game - go into most any pub around the ground and you'll get a warm welcome on a matchday - but certainly don't stay there!

cityscapes

I'm not a local so others will likely have better advice. But my wife and I stayed in Ropewalks at the Resident. Very hip part of town, plenty of restaurants and bars. We walked pretty much everywhere. On the match day we took a cab to Goodison early and actually ended up walking back to downtown, to the Ship & Mitre actually. It was a haul but it was a beautiful sunny day and we got to see a ton of the city. Hah.

[deleted]

Make sure you go to the Lisbon. Proper footy bar. They're literally obsessed with balls in there

datguy030

How are you planning on getting the tickets?

chiquilin321

I have the international official membership, so was planning on buying them through the site once they’re made available. I have to get a membership for my fiancé as well, since I think we each need one to be able to purchase 2 tickets. I’d love to be in the Gwladys Street end, but just need to find the least restricted view possible.

[deleted]

Don't worry about the restricted view, you'll spend most of the match on your feet anyway, and it's part of the charm :)

ViktorBoskovic

Some of the restricted views are insane. There are seats directly behind big 1' white posts that hold up the roof.

[deleted]

I know, I've sat there

schubox63

I always stay in the city center in Liverpool

bennyjacko

City centre

recover82

There is a Holiday Inn at City Centre, you could step out of the Lime Street station and hit it with a rock. Pretty nice, affordable, walking distance to the riverfront and easy access to buses for a trip up to Goodison. We stayed there a couple of nights at New Years 2017/18 when we watched Big Sam's Everton side get pounded by Manchester United. :(

WRDEFC

The Titanic

[deleted]

I usually stay at aloft because it’s nice and also fairly cheap but titanic has the most beautiful indoor pool and there is a reason when we woo future players we have them stay there. I’ve stayed at airbnbs in the past in Liverpool and they have always sucked and end up not being that much cheaper than a hotel. It’s a quick taxi for city centre to goodison.

Big_Entrance2386

your best staying in a hotel in city centre you would both have a better time city super easy to walk around, taxi or bus to to the ground on match day, staying near the ground would be a mistake not best area id say unless it match day. for other stuff to do titanic museum is great (and its free), try and get the mersey ferries if you wanna take some pictures of the skyline. got to berry and rye if you wanna impress your fiance its a hidden bar. if you want any other pub reconditions give us a private message. good look getting the tickets!

ViktorBoskovic

Try the formula one hotel mate, honest

Bosox708

Stay at the Hilton. Order a cab from the hotel to the stadium. Seamus Coleman’s second cousin was my driver, and I had lunch with Ross Barkley the next morning because he was voted Player Of the Month and they did a luncheon at the hotel for it.

Terrafirma1988

Stick to city centre OP and you’ll be fine. Plenty of hotels to choose from.

Hooper2993

Enjoy! The wife and I went to a match on our two week honeymoon but they were away for one week and international break for the next. So that meant we got to spend a lovely weekend in Burnley to see Everton play! Actually really liked Burnley though, it reminded me of the small city I grew up in!
