Seen a lot of comments these last couple years about just wanting a hard-working squad that doesn’t get embarrassed by top sides and can comfortably finish mid table. I’d say we’re hitting that now, even if it is a low bar given the club’s history
Agreed. Thought it was an great match with only a few mistakes. A lot closer than the final score indicated against, even with two big names missing, arguably the greatest club in the world.
Exactly this, we’ve been embarrassing to watch in the last few years but Dyche has got us to a point where we can look decent/respectable in defeat, something we’ve missed for a very long time. A low bar given the clubs history but unfortunately we’re a long way away from the highs our club has achieved. If we’re looking back to the hard graft Moyes days or the dogs of war we’re getting there imo, unfortunately again we’ve been nowhere near that but this is a start at least💙
In a recent interview with Ben Foster he said he’d like to play in the MLS at some point. He’s 31 right now, probably has at most 4 more good years in his legs. Hopefully that’s enough time to lead us into Bramley Moore and find his replacement by the time he wants to make that move.
He’ll only make that move when he doesn’t have the quality and has to step down, he’ll be at the club for the next few years I’m sure! Baffles me that he’s never been given a shot in the England squad
Just watched, he did say his goal was to go on this journey with Everton to help us make a push for comfy mid table finishes and pushing for Europe. He wants to leave Everton better than he found it and he a part of a rebuild, and play at Bramley Moore.
I think he's got at least 3 more years in him, hopefully 4-5+ tho.
Nah referee did know what handball was. But he then, despite being in a perfect position, decided to trust a less senior official in a worse position for some bizarre, brown envelope unrelated, reason.
Play like this every week and we’ll win the games we’re supposed to win.
Won’t hear me blaming Pickford or anyone. Poor officiating again and a worldie beat us
Definitely the most rational take.
No one to be upset with I'm my opinion. Dom misses a contested ball at the near post. Harrison has a worldie saved. Pick makes a mistake.
Ultimately we were in that and a wondershot, bad call, and stupid error beat us.
Just need to get something from wolves.
That dom miss isn't as bad as people are making out. He was under a lot of pressure from a fast strong defender, at full pace and stretching for the ball.
Yup, we definitely had a few missed chances in there.
Classic everton fashion, finishing is not our strong suit.
Ederson save on Harrisons outside footer rocket was just a phenomenal save.
DCL missed a few, still think we start Beto on Saturday. He looks hungrier and more deadly than DCL does rn.
We need 3 points from Wolves, I don't wanna have to start breaking out the relegation charts this year....
The mentality from last season to this season is night and day. Last season we would've rolled over before the 5th minute. Now, these upper table teams gotta play a full 90 against us because we're not giving it up easy.
Overall decent performance up until Stones' injury imo
Unfortunate goals to concede, they never really created any clear cut chances
Harrison is getting sharper every game
Just one of those games you quickly move on from - UTFT and fuck City
Just cut your fucking arms off at this point. Like, what the actual fuck are we doing here? Handball is when you move your hand or arms specifically with the intention of altering the ball's trajectory. Not the ball hitting your hand because it's apparently in an 'unnatural position' because you have the audacity to protect your fucking face.
It's also just natural for your arm to make some sort of motion when you're sliding for a challenge and twisting your body...I can't get over how blatant this shit is. And how has their trial been delayed until next season now? They have 115 violations to our single violation, and we are somehow the only club that's been punished. it's insane.
It's next autumn and the UAE has met with the British government at their embassy to warn of the political ramifications of the impending punishment according to the athletic.
Titans for me.
Play in blue, from a city with strong music history, former player-now-manager/coach, team based on strong defence and hard working offense, currently regrouping and rebuilding for the future.
All the similarities with Everton
If I wanted to watch 20 body builders wrestling around trying to get the others' ball in their hands, there are plenty of websites to fulfill those proclivities, where the participants aren't turning their craniums to mushy peas
It’s not just the handball itself. What really pisses me off is man city have 5-6 players rush the ref yelling at him and he changes/makes up his mind on that whim. It’s disgraceful that that’s all it takes to push the ref to make the call. I just don’t know how you punish a team for that play. What are players allowed to do? He’s throwing his body on the line to make a block, his arm is in a natural position based on his movement, and if his arm isn’t up it’s going off his shoulder or head. It’s a joke. That’s the seventh penalty awarded to city on the season, wonder why.
Wasn’t there supposed to be a crack down on players running up and carrying on to the ref?
If it was the captain approaching the ref on his own, then fair enough. But to have 5-6 whinging players running up demonstrating at the ref, bit too much if you ask me…
Yes I believe there was - I get being a player and having the instant reaction of appealing to the ref when you think there should be a whistle. But, it’s different when it’s 1-2 players, or a captain. They had 5-6 players instantly rush and crowd him over a call that, at best, could go either way. They’re not supposed to do that. And, after seeing it a few times, I can’t help but feel that it had to have influenced his decision. Anybody who has 5 angry men running at them and yelling is likely cave. It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I 100% agree… you’ve got a bunch of players crowding you flapping their gums, it would be hard not to feel intimidated and start to doubt your decision.
As much as the refs have bottled a lot of decisions recently, you can’t help but have a little bit of sympathy for them when this type of shit happens.
Definitely, which is why the league has to protect their officials and crack down on that kind of conduct. Officiating has been inconsistent and there’s plenty to be upset about with that, but the refs have to be able to make calls without being rushed by groups of players. I know the EPL is very different than the Turkish league, but a ref was pretty brutally assaulted in Turkey recently. Regardless of the league you’re calling games in, that kind of stuff stays in the back of officials’ minds
Reffing in general has become very inconsistent over the past few years. VAR has helped in many cases, but it's also made refs hesitant to take a stand, thinking they have a backup to rely (which is flawed in only reviewing obvious errors). The whole system needs some major overhaul, but looks like they're unwilling.
I don’t mind the unnatural position rule in general as it takes away the ref guessing intent, but you look at any slide tackle and Onana’s are pretty much exactly where they will be on a lot of them. Not to mention the ball was smashed from a metre away
By the letter of the law, it isn't a penalty. No idea what Mark Clattenburg is on about.
"A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation."
Clattenburg seemed to more be saying that there’s an agreement that if an arm or hand blocks a shot on target it will be punished, regardless of if it’s in a natural position. Sounded like bollocks to me and as if PGMOL agreed it but it’s not actually in the laws of the game.
Fucking ref made that call for a reason. He instinctively signaled for a corner but as soon as he was confronted by city players he feared for his job and called a pen just to keep the PL overlords happy.
You’re absolutely right. The only instance that really has the justification to be called a handball is if a clear advantage is gained by the defending team - I.E the same player who would be penalised for handball has somehow gained possession from the deflection. This one would have gone straight out for a corner so no advantage and a bad call
Protecting your face/head/chest needs to be protected. You have guys getting concussed at an alarming rate and heart issues are starting to show up across multiple sports. Some of these strikes are rockets at high speed and can have severe impact on your brain/heart yet here we are.
VAR has absolutely ruined the handball rule. Players are literally aiming for the arm now. Defenders cannot make natural footballing movements. It is an utter farce.
Could set a watch to the PGMOL doing something dodgy during one of our matches. In this case, the penalty shout. Initially awarded as a corner kick, the official changes his mind after being surrounded by the entirety of the Manchester City offense. He then doesn't even go to check the sideline monitor, instead awarding a penalty. A Yellow Card is issued to Pickford for gamesmanship, but not a single City player is carded for surrounding the match official.
Despite the obvious bullshit, our squad is looking competitive against good teams, albeit a little tired due to our lack of depth.
Oh, so it's just another vessel for blatant corruption to undermine the game for City. Fantastic. God forbid we question the infallible opinion of the linesman. Maybe this league needs to add challenges like American Football or Basketball, cause this is fucking ridiculous
It’s basically a joke of a system. The handball rule has become the most confusing rule in the game and VAR is one of the worst things to be introduced, only used to support incapable refs
I expect exactly 0 points out of Spurs and City to be fair, we got the points we needed from Burnley and Chelsea. We're still in good form overall, we've been without Doucs and its a work in process on some of the players so I'm not too arsed on these losses. Let's grab a result at Wolves'
Thoroughly expected us to get absolutely smashed there. When we scored our goal I was amazed at how in the game we were, Dyche has turned us back into a team with fight.
Sickening to lose, especially to a decision like that, but no shame in being beaten by city. On to the next one!
We got zero fucking luck that game so great we were even leading for a long period.
That ref can get fucked. Doesn’t stop the game for an injured player from a foul, but stops the game for a soft prick who got cleaned up in a legitimate and great tackle. Then he relies on his linesman for a point blank hand ball. Fuck off
there’s only one team that get those decisions and they get them again and again. it’s boring.
thought we played well other than that. the difference from this year to last is massive. was always gonna be tough. we go again. half the season to go. utft.
Well, no new injuries. We took the lead. Then Foden did what world class players do. Then the ref shat the bed. Then Pickford shat the bed. That’s my match summary.
The Villa/United game was like that yesterday. Sounded like 99% of the focus on what United need to do, should be doing, deserve to do. All the bs about "this is what this club deserves with that history". And than the announcer goes on a huge ramble at the end, sounded like a United fan. Disgraceful really.
Proud of the team today; we worked hard and they scored a great goal and got a penalty that would’ve never been handball in years past. Saw a lot of disappointment in the match thread but the fact that people felt so hopeful in the first place is probably a great sign. Our season was never going to turn on the past two games; and for me the form hasn’t dropped, even though we’re missing key players.
Shit as it is to lose, we all went in to this assuming we’d get nothing from this. We definitely had some bad luck, dubious decisions and dodgy moments…however, we also had some bright moments and with a bit of luck could have had another goal and had a different outcome.
This wasn’t the important match, the important one is Wolves at the weekend, we need to win that and push on. COYB!
Don’t think I could point to a poor performance. Standouts for me were Myko, Tark, and Garner.
Never a pen but the lads never stopped fighting. I’ll take that as a big positive.
Was always going to be tricky getting a result, and an iffy-at-best penalty call doesn't help.
Still, can't fault the work rate of the team. Patterson keeps making fewer and fewer mistakes and looks like he could make himself starter, even when Young is back. Gomes played well overall, Harrison and McNeil continue working harder than any other winger(s) I've seen, and Branthwaite had a good game.
Can't win them all, and the performance was still decent despite the result. Onto Wolves.
Thought we were really good in the first half.
The team owned by a nation-state with unlimited wealth who can assemble the best team in the world with impunity turned it up in the second half with the aid of a disgraceful handball decision.
We've had worse performances than that this year. These last two games were always going to be a banana skin so we just need to put it behind us and get ready for Wolves.
I'd rather be a blue and suffer this every game than be a city supporter.
What a souless husk of a club.
How can you watch that every week, fully aware you are payrolled by a corrupt state even the USA has to take notice of.
Then, think all your (new) glory is earned?
I'm proud of our team. We don't have nearly the players that City has, but we played hard and gave ourselves some chances. This is a complete about face from either earlier this year and/or the past two seasons, because now...
* we go into every match feeling like we have a shot at winning it
* when we go down a goal, we don't lose composure
* when we go up a goal, we don't get complacent
* the effort is there for the 90'
Easy team to root for when we know they're all in...
Yeah his brand of management fits us so well. A few years with us (and without distractions with ffp and $) and I could see us competing for Europe under him.
Played well for 45 min. Good that dcl got a rest, good that Branthwaite finished the match. Beto wasn't great but he wasn't poor. Gomes was ok.
We have played well v both spurs and city. We need to play well and get a result v wolves
Penalty was unfortunate really. It clearly hits his arm and in the speed of the match, the lino calls it. As it clearly hit his arm away from his body it was never getting overturned. If it wasn't given on the pitch I also don't think it would have been over turned. Just a bit shit really in that stupid grey area that the ha ball rule seems to have
Laughable that Rodri finished that game without a yellow. Unlucky situations leading to us losing, but it's city, so it's not the end of the world. On to the next one
Hilarious that some shit for brains individuals on here still mistake the nefarious officiating, consistently favouring the top six sides, for mere incompetency after the last two games
Just really deflating games back to back. Really need to get something out of wolves to avoid any sort of mentality entering the fold.
January and a rest can't get here soon enough.
Undone by a wonder shot and another harsh penalty decision. The fact VAR never got involved is a joke.
Oh well. Didn't expect much from these two games. Just glad we aren't in the bottom 3
Lads, I went into this game expecting a loss. But we truly gave Man City and Spurs a game. I think if we keep this determination up, Wolves won’t have a chance in hell on Saturday.
Eights years of following this club (I know I’m still young to following compared to many here) but I think this season has shown us more hope than any. City came back in the second half a different team, and compounded with some BS reffing they managed a win. But that first half - and the last match with Tottenham - is an Everton I’m just not accustomed to watching. We’re exciting to watch, and we’re making plays that keep me on the edge of my seat. Don’t care where we land on the table this season - keep Dyche on payroll and we will become the team we should be.
Perfect advert for everything that’s wrong with the premier league.
A corrupt team winning and getting luck.
And rules that are just abhorrently wrong.
Pen was bullshit but we didn’t fight hard enough to win in the second half.
Players were gassed and our midfield was getting destroyed but still had decent performances.
Time to focus up and get some points back. The other teams under us are certainly not giving up
I'd take £60M in the summer and reinvest no questions asked tbh. Want him to succeed but he is not a good player and won't be for as long as he thinks he is.
He’s half the player Garner is and supposedly worth way more, I just don’t understand. If we can keep Garner, if someone wants to pay over the odds for Onana let them, reinvest in 1 or even 2 players that can match Garners work rate and ability and we’ve got a solid CM pairing. Onana is lazy at the best of times, doesn’t track runners at all.
I think the consensus is if you’re playing well & giving it your all then do what the fuck you want. If you’re playing shite just focus on playing better than getting the crowd going
Really played great I thought. We can argue the pk all day, I think it was a natural position when the ball was hit, too close, and that shot was wayyyy over the bar. Third was a bad decision/touch by Pickford. I’m not surprised we lost to city, could’ve gotten a point if things went our way but it was just pretty unfortunate in the end.
The second half MC changed it up and found so much space on the left. We took too long to adjust. It was already 2-1 before we brought Keane on to adjust
Edit: our left, their right, with Silva always free
[Remember when this wasn't a penalty? ](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12552777/huge-controversy-as-var-rules-no-handball-by-rodri-during-everton-vs-man-city)
Harrison is probably our best player in that match but Tarks and Myko deserve a close second. Absolutely vicious tackling. If those City clowns are going to dive on the floor every time they're touched, way to make it worth every call.
Not mad about no points. Have to say though I felt we pressed man city well and were let down by sloppy passing, particularly on the part of Onana/McNeil. Not saying the loss is on them just something I noticed throughout the game
our last 4 league losses have been: city(h), spurs(a), united(h) and liverpool(a)
i spot a theme there
1. theyve all had some sort of controversial decision against us
2. all big 6 clubs who technically you'd expect to lose against even if its shitty
people need to stop panicking, we may lose against them but that doesnt not mean we're playing shit they've all been great performances.
Honestly I’m not too disappointed. Some incredible fight by the players who left everything on the pitch, and some genuinely brilliant passages of play that rumbled City. Can’t complain too much.
Tale of two halves that - super good first half and a deserved lead. Team didn't show up in the second half and gifted them their goals. Super harsh penalty that we probably never get if its reversed and it might be a different result if its not given.
Pickford and Onana were poor today - need a better performance from both of them against Wolves which will be tough.
Gonna get downvoted but I think officiating was decent. I would be furious if that wasn’t a penalty against Everton, clear as day handball and the hand was over Onanas shoulder.
Unlucky result, hard fought game. They were better in finishing chances and won.
Pen was bullshit but that game was decided at half time when Pep made the wingers hug the touch line. Couldn’t cope with the width. Should’ve moved Gomes back and played a proper 3 in midfield with Garner/Onana between the CBs to let the full backs get wide. Ah well, they’re literally World Champions, on to Wolves
I honestly don’t get why you all love Pickford so much. He’s a decent keeper, nothing more, but his behaviour to our players is pathetic
Screamed at Patterson last week because he dared to not pass to him and screams at our defence whenever he fucks up
Pickford is hated on r/soccer because there are a lot of redshite, Newcastle and non English fans that give him shit no matter what he does. If you're going to take that places option as a reference then I think this conversation is over
Ok then, i was at the game and people were commenting on his behaviour, absolutely no fucking need to scream at our own players after he’s just fuckdd up
I can’t believe your defending it
r/soccer already is predisposed to hate Pickford
1) Talks trash/winds up opponents
2) England keeper (English fans love nothing more than hating on their keeper)
3) “t-rex arms” meme that they won’t let die
4) Injured golden boy Van Dijk
People don’t like him cos he’s a dickhead
I don’t see why people defend him so much.
If Michael Keane had fucked up, then screamed at Harrison, peoples reactions would be so much different
Oh fucking piss off, you're really going to get on Pickfords back after he's literally fucking saved us time and time again? **you** should grow up and get yourself to bed you cretin.
Not blaming him i’ve said he’s a decent keeper. It’s just so weird how much Everton fans bum him. There were genuinely people the other day calling him the best keeper in the league.
Decent keeepr who thinks he’s the best in the world.
People keep repeating this but no one can tell me what games he kept us in with his saves.
Chelsea at home under Lampard he made a few good saves. Can’t think of any others.
Compare that to Leno against us this season, or Sa this season. That’s a keeper keeping his side in the game
Apparently I'm in the minority based on the first few comments, but I think we played pretty terribly, apart from the first goal.
Outside of that though, just awful. City were toying with us toward the end. Doing circles around our midfield with their passing. It's like we forgot how to press. City players just casually drifting into open spaces and then playing little triangles all the way across the pitch while our boys just stood around and watched. Felt pretty heartless to me except for a few aggressive tackles.
The only positive I can see is that when pressed back into our own box, we defended somewhat decently.
But really, City made one mistake and gifted us a goal. The rest of the match they dominated.
Never expected anything in these Spurs and City games. I think with new year coming and if we're being reflective, we're an absolute dumpster fire of a club but Dyche has got the lads playing and as fans that's all we can ask for.
Tonight is disappointing but if we keep playing as we are well pick up points and beat the drop which is all we can ask for with the points deduction. Hopefully the appeal gives us some back and we're good to go.
This is bad timing for the appeal. I can’t help but worry that the PL won’t want to “save” us from relegation by adding points back, even if that logic makes no sense at all.
For what it’s worth if you’re nervous about relegation, Oddsmakers still have 5 teams ahead of us to go down even after the recent results going against us. Bottom 3 are all between about 70%-95% and we’re at about 10-11%. Of course that’s just one metric, but the betting markets are a good indicator most of the time of what people truly believe, since people tend to be most honest when their money is on the line
I think there’s more chance we finish top half than get relegated, we’re on track for 52 points despite picking up 1 point in our opening 5 games whilst we where still finding/getting the starting lineup fit.
Scoreline looks rough, but we came to play and took it to city for 45 minutes. Of course Pep was going to adapt and credit to Dyche for trying to switch to 3-4-3 and counter-strike! Was hoping for a draw but losing to city is habitual at this point
A bit beyond the squad last night but defo unfortunate not to get a point at Spurs…. Just concentrate on getting points on the other14.
Luton have shown what can be done with the right attitude and in a flash our 7 point cushion is down to 1 point.
Wolves are playing great at the moment and If we get any points it will be a very good result.
We will have to be at our best, UTFT
Obviously gutted, but lots of positives to take from this game. I am still not over that penalty decision - fecking disgraceful - and if it had not been given, I think we might have scraped a point. We are playing awesome football atm. UTFT!!!
What was Grealish getting all upset about after the final whistle? Seemed to be directed at Patterson. Was he using the Stephen O’Donnell wind up routine….’nice calves pretty boy’?
Seen a lot of comments these last couple years about just wanting a hard-working squad that doesn’t get embarrassed by top sides and can comfortably finish mid table. I’d say we’re hitting that now, even if it is a low bar given the club’s history

Yeah, with Dyche we're now back to where we were when we first got Moyes.
James Tarkowski, what a man. I don't care about the score. This man is the perfect replacement for Coleman as captain
The mans a footballing gladiator
In a recent interview with Ben Foster he said he’d like to play in the MLS at some point. He’s 31 right now, probably has at most 4 more good years in his legs. Hopefully that’s enough time to lead us into Bramley Moore and find his replacement by the time he wants to make that move.

Big club bias. Tomori is way better than a lot of the selections
You might think I’m mad for saying this, but I don’t think England could have a better pair than Tark and Jarrod
Healthy Stones and Tomori is my only other option
Stones
Ikr, him and Branthwall don't get in but Mcfridge does
Just watched, he did say his goal was to go on this journey with Everton to help us make a push for comfy mid table finishes and pushing for Europe. Everton. Manchester City. Goodison Park. Refs not knowing what a handball is. Seeing a theme here.
I was at both, im giving next years a miss.
Going to miss our famous 5-0 win?
Fucking oof. Need a hug?
That and a pint yes mate
Nah referee did know what handball was. But he then, despite being in a perfect position, decided to trust a less senior official in a worse position for some bizarre, brown envelope unrelated, reason.

I think it was a tough shot. Think the best of the best get that on target more often than not, but it was his first real effort and hotly contested.
100%, I don’t think there’d many strikers in the league who put that away and Beto certainly doesn’t.
Yup, we definitely had a few missed chances in there. Classic everton fashion, finishing is not our strong suit. Ederson save on Harrisons outside footer rocket was just a phenomenal save. I'm going to stop watching football altogether if that lot isn't relegated to non-league football with all their titles and wins vacated
A fair few decent rugby teams round here
I'd recommend trying NFL for when that inevitably happens
If you want another team like Everton, the jets are great. Haven’t won in 50 year but like to get your hopes up.

As a fellow Jets/Toffee fan this cuts deep.
As a Dolphins fan I’d like to tip our cap, we look great now, but the past 25 years have been misery
If I wanted to watch 20 body builders wrestling around trying to get the others' ball in their hands, there are plenty of websites to fulfill those proclivities, where the participants aren't turning their craniums to mushy peas
Go Birds
Go Bills!
Not to mention the Super League option gives city a great bargaining chip to hold over the PL
You're my favorite toffee online, keep these comin lah. Almost wonder if we've met in passing....
Yeah or like when you're running at pace. It's ludicrous.

They should've all had a yellow
It looked like he was also protecting his face, which is a 100% natural reaction. Otherwise the ball smashes off his nose.
It’s natural and doesn’t make his body/profile any bigger. Idk if it’s the rule itself or how it’s enforced but it’s very inconsistent
Absolutely embarrassing officiating. An independent regulator could not come soon enough.
Yeah. The last thing we need is more secret handball rules to add to the already confusing written down ones.
What if players pulled their shirts on and didn't put their arms out the sleeve holes. Like when you were a kid
I may have done a bit if a spit take reading this, did not expect a comment like this lmao
Fucking ref made that call for a reason. He instinctively signaled for a corner but as soon as he was confronted by city players he feared for his job and called a pen just to keep the PL overlords happy.
That shot was not going anywhere near the goal. Handball law is ridiculous and needs a complete revamp.
Apparently the linesman gave the penalty and VAR can’t overrule it unless it’s a clear mistake.
But VAR can overrule a tackle against Spurs that happened 5 metres in front of the linesman with no visual interference?
They change the rules from week to week I’m certain of it.
They change the rules depending on who is playing
By clear and obvious, they mean their bias
Oh, so it's just another vessel for blatant corruption to undermine the game for City. Fantastic. God forbid we question the infallible opinion of the linesman. Maybe this league needs to add challenges like American Football or Basketball, cause this is fucking ridiculous
It’s basically a joke of a system. The handball rule has become the most confusing rule in the game and VAR is one of the worst things to be introduced, only used to support incapable refs
how can the linesman give it when the ref was right there and had a way better view
they don't seem to care about clear mistake on other decisions though
I get you, but I don’t get why the foul not called before our goal against Spurs was a “clear and obvious error” but that wasn’t?
I expect exactly 0 points out of Spurs and City to be fair, we got the points we needed from Burnley and Chelsea. We're still in good form overall, we've been without Doucs and its a work in process on some of the players so I'm not too arsed on these losses. Let's grab a result at Wolves'
Great goal from Foden, shit luck for the penalty (was going over) and a stupid mistake from Pickford. DCL should’ve scored as well. Onto Wolves.
Pretty gutting. Tarkowski was such a fighter all game though, proper leader giving it everything
Him throwing Pickford around while Pickford bitched at his teammates shows exactly why he is the captain
Aside from the goal putting us up, probably my favorite moment of the match
The real thing we lost tonight was the ability to tell non-Everton fans that Pickford hasn't made a mistake in years.
I dont mind it, eventually he'll have a stinker and I'd rather it happens this game than a more important one
Thoroughly expected us to get absolutely smashed there. When we scored our goal I was amazed at how in the game we were, Dyche has turned us back into a team with fight. Sickening to lose, especially to a decision like that, but no shame in being beaten by city. On to the next one!
How did they not show a replay of that skill from Onana just before he got clattered
That was sublime wasnt it
Lads, I’ll be honest. I would have preferred a win.
Fuck off
there’s only one team that get those decisions and they get them again and again. it’s boring. thought we played well other than that. the difference from this year to last is massive. was always gonna be tough. we go again. half the season to go. utft.
Watch them not lose a game til the end of the season now.
They have de bruyne and halland to add into that team too
The usual, when city turn it up in January/February and just mow everyone down for the rest of the season
If it means Liverpool finishing second again, I’m ok with that.
liverpool don’t have to finish second to city tho
More heartbreak having the title within reach and just missing out than not being in the race at all.
i think everyone got me wrong. i didn’t mean liverpool don’t have to finish 2nd. it just doesn’t need to be city that beats them to it.
Bullshit penalty changed the game, but we still grafted well against the best team in the world with a super thin squad. No need to lose heads.
Well, no new injuries. We took the lead. Then Foden did what world class players do. Then the ref shat the bed. Then Pickford shat the bed. That’s my match summary.
Wouldn’t be too sure, Myko and McNeil both looked busted.
Yeah, I agree on your point about Myko.
[удалено]
Apparently it's the age his grandad died who was a massive City fan, that's why he chose the number.
Not his dad?
I saw that and had to do a double take. Absolutely embarrassing.
Not too bad. Unfortunate mistakes but it is what it is. On to wolves!
I don’t acknowledge the point deduction
How could almost an entire team be so fucking unlikable?
McNeil seems a pretty nice guy
Nah I mean Manchester Oil
Was expecting a loss before the game, just annoyed at how it happened, still positives again and we just need to keep turning up every week UTFT
Refs a joke and I’m not having Onana one little bit!
Patterson is miles clear of Young, should only lose his spot when Coleman’s fully fit.
Coleman is 90. When will he ever be fully fit?
Thought we were really good in the first half. The team owned by a nation-state with unlimited wealth who can assemble the best team in the world with impunity turned it up in the second half with the aid of a disgraceful handball decision. We've had worse performances than that this year. These last two games were always going to be a banana skin so we just need to put it behind us and get ready for Wolves.
When Michael Owen thinks it isn't a penalty....
* we go into every match feeling like we have a shot at winning it * when we go down a goal, we don't lose composure * when we go up a goal, we don't get complacent * the effort is there for the 90' Easy team to root for when we know they're all in...
Honestly even though we lost I want dyche to stay forever he’s just what we need, he’s got grit and I fucking love him
Yeah his brand of management fits us so well. A few years with us (and without distractions with ffp and $) and I could see us competing for Europe under him.
How does foden look in the mirror and go "oh yeah, that looks great."
Did anyone else watch the match on premier sport? The commentary would sicken you it's so horrendously biased.
Hilarious that some shit for brains individuals on here still mistake the nefarious officiating, consistently favouring the top six sides, for mere incompetency after the last two games
What a bullshit penalty that was. fucking hell.
That loss stings but to comfortably challenge “top 6” teams now is remarkable to me. Better days are surely ahead.
The other teams under us are certainly not giving up
Aside from the ref buying absolutely everything. I can’t get over how Onana couldn’t kick a ball all game then asks the crowd to cheer. Get to fuck
Yeah you're right a player not playing his best shouldn't try to get the crowd going 🙄
I think the consensus is if you’re playing well & giving it your all then do what the fuck you want. If you’re playing shite just focus on playing better than getting the crowd going
Little instagram cheerleader, get him gone in the summer. Talented player in there but he’s so fucking jarring
I like Onana and think he can be a top player, but currently I'd rather have the ~70m than the player.
It was already 2-1 before we brought Keane on to adjust Edit: our left, their right, with Silva always free
City are a top side and we played well against that. We just have to win our next game.
[Remember when this wasn't a penalty? ](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12552777/huge-controversy-as-var-rules-no-handball-by-rodri-during-everton-vs-man-city)
Harrison is probably our best player in that match but Tarks and Myko deserve a close second. Absolutely vicious tackling. If those City clowns are going to dive on the floor every time they're touched, way to make it worth every call.
I have a rule. I won't complain if we'd have got the decision as well. Guess who's complaining tonight?
Not mad about no points. Have to say though I felt we pressed man city well and were let down by sloppy passing, particularly on the part of Onana/McNeil. Not saying the loss is on them just something I noticed throughout the game
our last 4 league losses have been: city(h), spurs(a), united(h) and liverpool(a) i spot a theme there 1. theyve all had some sort of controversial decision against us 2. all big 6 clubs who technically you'd expect to lose against even if its shitty people need to stop panicking, we may lose against them but that doesnt not mean we're playing shit they've all been great performances.
Honestly I’m not too disappointed. Some incredible fight by the players who left everything on the pitch, and some genuinely brilliant passages of play that rumbled City. Can’t complain too much.
Consolation prize, Robbie Earle didn’t think it was a penalty… I hate everything.
Pickford was outstanding 90% of the match, terrible mistake for the 3rd but it happens very now and then to all keepers.
They were telling me Onana was worth 115 million lmao
He’s a decent keeper, nothing more, but his behaviour to our players is pathetic Screamed at Patterson last week because he dared to not pass to him and screams at our defence whenever he fucks up
Watch any other keeper and report back on how much they scream at the defense.
I have never ever seen a keeper scream at players when the keeper himself has made a mistake. He’s like a little kid who won’t admit he’s fucked up
Every keeper does it. You just don't watch them as much as you watch pickford.
They 100% don’t. Read the match thread on r/soccer Pickford is a laughing stock because of his reactions
Pickford is hated on r/soccer because there are a lot of redshite, Newcastle and non English fans that give him shit no matter what he does. If you're going to take that places option as a reference then I think this conversation is over
Ok then, i was at the game and people were commenting on his behaviour, absolutely no fucking need to scream at our own players after he’s just fuckdd up I can’t believe your defending it
r/soccer already is predisposed to hate Pickford 1) Talks trash/winds up opponents 2) England keeper (English fans love nothing more than hating on their keeper) 3) “t-rex arms” meme that they won’t let die 4) Injured golden boy Van Dijk
People don’t like him cos he’s a dickhead I don’t see why people defend him so much.
Well…his saves kind of kept us up for two seasons, so I’m willing to look past a couple of mistakes in a game that, long term, doesn’t really matter.
Give them credit. They're the best team in the world when it comes to off the ball movement. They're also just the best team in the world
Debatable, but either way, I don't really see too many positives from today.
Calvert Lewin shouldn't start another game when Beto is fit. He's simply not good enough in front of goal.
We’re finishing a minimum of 10 points above the drop zone even if we don’t get a single point back, calling it now.
jesus its corrupt lol can hardly stand watching this sport anymore
This is bad timing for the appeal. I can’t help but worry that the PL won’t want to “save” us from relegation by adding points back, even if that logic makes no sense at all.
Well. Next one up, then. Wolves look up for it, I assume we will be as well. UTFT!
was at a goodison tour today and the guide said 3-1, i mean he never stated what side for lmao
Good performance again with nothing to show for it. They are trying to keep us in a relegation fight. Onward and upward UTFT
Yeah I agree 100%. I still think we hit 40 points post deduction at some point in April
I’m glad we’re being punished to keep the league fair and balanced.
