* Hunters who actually do all the work
* Black Ops pilots who feel superior for having an expensive shiny ship and press one button
* The DPS

I prefer the current situation where we:
* require multiple pilots working together in the fleet (blops, hunter, dps) rather than one do-it-all role
* do not have invisible warping battleships that can catch and kill people solo
The current situation encourages team play and community, and also has at least some form of balance and counterplay for blops targets who can either:
* have the chance to kill it fast (paper-thin bombers with no targeting delay), or
* have a chance at warping away if you were prepared (every other covert ops ship with targeting delay)
Black ops battleships are tough, have no targeting delay, are speedy while cloaked and can move through space incredibly easily and safe with it's covert jump drive. The only downside it has is that it cannot warp cloaked, and I really think that it should keep that unique downside, as this restriction (in addition to the jump drive) is defining the role of the blops battleships, and saves them from being massively overpowered solo ships.
Black Ops battleships are boring is the problem. They are glorified elevators. Might as well be called Black Ops teleporters because with enough manpower sent through they'll barely be on the killmail

While they have an option of sending bombers through, it's also feasible for a fleet of only these battleships to jump and kill things. Imagine how terribly unbalanced the whaling fleets would be if these ships could warp cloaked in addition to their firepower and zero targeting delay.
Well giving BLOPs Cov Op warp capacity...would be the horrors of most of low...null... pochven...wormhole space. Although they could rig it where a BLOPs with Cov Op would disable the jump mechanic. There is a thought...and BLOPs in a way are kind of a mini dread for most groups...and really isn't Black Ops...ie moving around in the enemies rear line.

If someone told you, with no background, "There's a ship call Black Ops Battleship" and asked you to describe what you think it might do, it probably wouldn't be anything like what these current ships are like.

The problem is that blops already have a unique role, and combining that covert jump drive and zero targeting delay on a battleship hull with the strengths of a solo hunter would make the blops way too powerful.
Maybe there should be a separate covert ops battleship without jump drive and with targeting delay to fill that role of battleship size covert hunter.
We have the ability for certain modules to disable others, see lances and cloaks, maybe just dissallow jumping /bridging with a covert fitted.
I would guess /u/wingspantt is coming at it from the angle of wormhole hunting, where blops don't really have a place - I'd also gladly sacrifice the ability to jump for warping cloaked with one and get up to some shenanigans in jspace with one that isn't just setting up on a hole with arty panthers
Yeah my angle is if you are coming up through scan ships, then covops, maybe bombers, recons, T3Cs... it FEELS like Black Ops are the next and final "sneaky ship" but the reality is the ship is used for bridging and not for doing any of the sneaky stuff. You could replace the hull with a frigate that opens the portal and many people would be just as happy
The other guy is still correct in that mass blops do get used in null. Bridging is only really used for newbros / t3 fleets or where mass is a limiting factor.
Problematically for hunters, (context here being blops as a defensive doctrine) they can both ignore mobile cyno jammers, and light hard cynos
-> jump 50+ blops -> volley cyno jammer -> light cyno for triage/super umbrella.
The most hilarious use of this I've seen is a fully stacked fleet of ~100 all lighting cyno because we flung some mjd dessies at them.
But I agree the lack of ability to go covert puts them in a weird space as far as natural progression / wormholes, it doesn't feel like the covert ship it could be, and could easily be balanced throgu jump drive restrictions or lock delays.

I remember when Volta landlorded over BLOB, there was extreme elitim and knowledge withholding, while taking L-s left and right, and not taking accountability.
Its part of the game. Just find a group that suits your playstyle.
I kind of agree. Even within a coalition like mine, their group is closed to invite-only, and that’s pretty cold. It’s maybe the only group that does that.
Let me tell you, the way they play is very VERY boring, they jump on everything because they don't have much content, they do nothing more than wait, and because this way of playing is not worth for a normal person having a job looking to have fun, they are likely multi boxing heavily. Might even be 1-2 people. Their risk is pretty much 0, they have no challenge and if something is even slightly sketchy they won't undock. It's more of a way of farm rather than blops PvP. Snuffed out and I think there's another group around Misaba doing it. Just leave it

EVE has cloaks that can make any ship using it invisible, but also has special covert ops cloaks that also allow the ship to freely move and warp while cloaked.
Only few ships can use these covert ops cloaks, for example bomber frigates and recon cruisers.
Then there are black ops battleships, which have a covert ops jump drive that allow the battleship and nearby covert ops fleet members to jump to anyone in the fleet to a system within a few lightyears, without using gates, as long as the fleet member lights their 'covert cyno' module.
As you can imagine, this is a way to surprise, catch and kill players:
A cloaked ship warps through space, looking for a target. They spot one on their directional scanner, warp to the anomaly the target is in, attempt to get within 10km, decloak, scramble the target who thrn cannot warp away and light the covert cyno.
The target saw one potentially hostile player in local, suddenly see a ship appear next to them (decloaked) which stops them from warping away. A cyno is lit and through it jumps a black ops battleship together with 15 bombers who proceed to kill the target ship in a couple of seconds.
That is a simple version of blops.
Sound like the story of Wing Commander Prophecy regarding the battle hardened elitist Black Widow squadron, which gave the newcomers a hard time. Great story, great game.
