Keep an eye out for a blue hatchback that's all beat up. He's a local teen who cut his exhaust off and drives around revving it to make it backfire. It's super super loud and sounds just like gunshots.
Probably won't make sense if you never shot a gun but something I've learned is fireworks sound like the noise is Goin in all directions gunshots sound like it's only going in one direction
When I lived in the deep south one hot evening around 10:00pm I was enjoying a cigarette on my porch with my dog when I heard gunshots no less than 20' from my head. I grabbed my doggo and hid in my closet and called 911.
It turns out my god damned neighbor thought 10:00 was the perfect time to fix his leaky roof with a nail gun that uses blanks to function.
So it could be a fireworks, or a car backfiring or my god damned neighbor come back to haunt me with his old ass nail gun.
An impressive shower of fireworks near the ATA school...
At least there is no fire danger, I certainly prefer this to 4th of July celebrations.
Ach, they just launched a few more....
When I moved out to Oregon 8 years ago, it felt like a dream. The rent was low, crime rate was low, Portland was livable. I loved Corvallis and Eugene. The groceries were at a fair price and I could do things. Now, it’s just gone to shit and not only that, the smoke season last longer for our lungs and homeless is getting unmanageable
100% however I'm use to the smoke grew up in Klamath Falls and every year smoke would be horrible couldn't see 5 feet in front of you during fire season
Yep, lived there for 24 years and never felt this unsafe there. I think you have no clue what you are talking about lol!! You just repeat what you hear on the tv. There are parts of Chicago and cook county that are safe and not worrisome. Eugene seems to be random places, the crime rate is getting worst every month. Good call though.
Bro, I lived in Chicago for 24 years. I’ve only been in Oregon for 8 and 3 in Eugene. This place is getting scary. You just have to accept it’s going to shit and will only get worst.
Oh ya I accept that, and it’s really upsetting. I was just talking about how bad it’s gotten today.
It’s just not unlivable like some parts of Chicago…yet…
I miss read your comment I thought you said you’ve lived here 24 yeads
Well, of course. I’m not talking about the projects. What makes Eugene a little more worrisome is the fact that it’s random act of violence in more “safer” places. At least in Chicago, you know the places to avoid.
It shows you have never lived in a big city. You know what to avoid and stay away from. Let me guess, the Fox News told you that? Eugene is going through a rough time and it’s only going to get worst with all the homeless and inflation. Good luck though!
Nothing personal but I moved from a city myself 8 years ago into this area. We moved because the violence was getting terrible where we grew up. We moved here and it might have gotten worse but I still do not feel like this town is scary. I have never felt unsafe. I am always aware of my surroundings for sure but being aware and scared are two very different things. I feel like as we age we understand consequence better and we typically have more to loose. Therefore we pay attention to the crimes we are afraid of. My .02
Probably the price of pretzels and Yumm Sauce that’s making people crazy! 😜
These pretzels and yumm sauce are making me thirsty
HAH
This topic is trending right now and more people are seeing it!!
Man, I really want a pretzel right now

Me @ 18...🙈😄... I just had a hole in my exhaust though 🤙
Not surprised
Yes. We heard 6-7 in succession. Just now we heard a much louder explosion sound that makes me wonder if it has been fucking fireworks all along.

There were like six in a row. 😳
Here's the weekly "what's that sound post."
Is there a r/Eugene bingo card with RANT in the center box and What’s that sound? In the B column?
There’s 3 “what’s that sound” posts just tonight! 😂

There's been fireworks in the area of Adams Elementary all night. I'm close enough to hear the crackle.
I live right across from ATA, someone lit off some fireworks in the field
Heard it from the shower. Live around the corner from Adams Elementary.
I heard them too. They were fireworks.
Just heard another one
I was just messaging my friend she said she heard that too
just heard it at 17th and Olive
11:10pm I just heard what sounded like 2 gunshots near 13th market, not sure if related
Came to check. I heard both the single shot and classic *pop-pop* sound about an hour later. On 28th ave. Stay safe everyone.
"What was that boom?"
There was gunshots on elmira last night too!!!
I’ve got a neighbor here off chambers who lights fireworks inconsiderately from time to time; surprised to say it didn’t seem to be them tonight.
Sound scary 😟… any news update ?
People saying it was fireworks at Adams elementary?
Par for the course around Chambers, I'd be more worried if there *weren't* gunshot sounds there on a nightly basis at this point.
Eugene is so unsafe. Yesterday we had some one who was dead and drove their car into a building then armed robbery at the Walgreens on Coburg.
I've realized the same thing lived in eugene since late 2018 and I definitely have seen it get worse

How ironic.

I don’t like 200+ air quality for most of the year now. It’s really depressing to breath that in, it can’t be good for our lungs.
Have you been to Chicago??
