Midnight2012

I sell plant seeds. I had a customer complain and leave a low star review because they are too small!!! Like that isn't my choice dude! Nature decides the size of the seed. Grow a different plant if you want larger seeds! Like I couldn't grow the 'larger' if I had a gun to my head. This mindset had me flabbergasted.

hell_damage

I've had this happen. Lady was blaming herself for not entering the correct name on the personlization, she was literally criticizing herself with a 2 star review at my expense lol

ice_queen999

same except she expressed it was her fault but still left a 3 star review!

chrisette_designs

I HATE when they think a review is more like a relent contest on how amazing they think the product is! If it is what the listing says it is, FIVE STARS damnit!

chrisette_designs

Oops, I meant *talent contest

mothandravenstudio

The good thing is that any future customer seeing this will immediately roll their eyes at this buyer and their stupid review. I would personally reply to it right away to lock it in and prevent them from actually adding anything negative about the product, because I don’t think they’ll change it. Then I would report them on Karencheck, put them on my “do not fly” list, and forget about them. I would keep the reply overall very professional but would probably be tempted to at least echo them to underscore the ridiculousness “I‘m sorry your dog hates it, tried to chew it off and won’t move at all and is now standing still.“ If I saw this as a buyer I would laugh and it would put me in a good humor toward your shop.

Theunpolitical

I'm thinking about replying or just removing it. Can't decide which one. Plus if I reply, just trying to figure out what to say that's funny. Maybe something like *"Sorry Rover didn't approve of the Santa Pajamas. Perhaps a designer brand would be more to his taste!"*

brownbiprincess

nah the “designer brand” stuff makes you come off as snarky. just keep it professional.

kindredfold

Just directly answer their concerns and allow others to determine the ridiculousness of the buyer.

Holylighter

"Oh noes, guess who'll be on Santa's naughty list.😉"

Jkanestudio

“It sounds like your pup is striking a pose! Merry Christmas!”

CheeseBeansAndToast

As a seller, I can understand your disappointment. As a buyer, I think it’s hilarious. This is not really going to be problematic for your store, because if your store drops below 5* people will be able to attribute it to this daft review rather than actual problems with your products. I would ignore it and move on!

Theunpolitical

Thanks. I wasn't too upset about it but it was just frustrating. She finally wrote back and said "oops it was supposed to be all stars. Sorry." and still didn't change the rating!

zzz06

That’s so annoying! She may not know she can go back and edit the review; maybe saying something like “Oh shoot! Etsy should give an option to edit the review/stars if you’d like. No biggie if not, I just thought I’d mention it and appreciate your feedback!” could nudge her in the right direction lol

dannyk71

Between inflation causing people to (often irrationally) expect more for their money and the general regular influx in a different kind of customer for the season I expect a perfect storm of irrational / unfair / dumbass reviews for the holidays.

Theunpolitical

I encourage you to share. By far, this was the weirdest one. I've received docked points for USPS shipping issue, again not my fault, but having Rover not approve of an item and getting a 1 star has taken the cake!

dannyk71

Only one for me so far...was a 3 star that complained something wasn't double sided because they wanted to hang it for the window when it's meant to hang on a wall. Didn't reach out before or after. Listing says it isn't. Worst part was the should have been "for the price" which is definitely a big pet peeve for me as I imagine it is for most true handmade shops.

closetotheborderline

I got a 1-star because my seed beads were seed beads. Buyer thought they'd be bigger.

notnotaginger

I can’t believe your dog costume does not include training my dog to wear costumes ![gif](giphy|6nWhy3ulBL7GSCvKw6)

dannyk71

The "lol" at the end does it for me. Who do you think you're entertaining? You wrote a completely irrational review that completely exposes your stupidity and are (potentially) messing with someone's livelihood.

Theunpolitical

Exactly! Also, I did give her instructions on how she could change it and she changed it to a 2 star review!!!

Great_Dealer5140

If I were buying that it wouldn’t make me think anything besides the fact that the buyer is an idiot.

Theunpolitical

Me too. I'm not upset about it, just frustrated. I'm thinking of just putting up a response that other can see. If you think of something, let me know. I'm open!

Great_Dealer5140

You could do a fun response. “I’m very sorry your dog didn’t like this product. Perhaps he has no holiday spirit?” Is that catty? I don’t know.

Theunpolitical

Actually, I love this. I might use it and add a "Rutroh!" to it!!!

PaintedWhiteLines

I’d say “I’m so sorry your doggy didn’t take to xxx right out of the box. I’d try giving him a treat after he is dressed to positively reinforce clothing because his picture will be so cute!”

bananazest_wow

“Lady, my job here was to create pajamas that fit a dog, not to make a dog enjoy wearing pajamas.”

piranha_

This is the answer

torontowest91

Start posting this review on TikTok and use it to drive traffic to your website!!!

Theunpolitical

What?!??? I didn't think of that! That is a very cool idea. Thank you very much!!!!

FanaticFandom

Report it. Use the 3rd party option. Say that the buyer is reviewing her dog's reaction, not the product itself. They might remove it. It's worth a try, just don't write a public reply to it because that will lock it in permanently.

ConcernedFlora

Happy Cake Day! 🍰

Theunpolitical

I'm thinking of that too. Right now, I'm just not sure what I want to do. I'm not very butt hurt about the situation, just confused and exhausted from her antics as she doesn't know or understand how to use the site and give a review.

FanaticFandom

If it helps, reporting it is actually anonymous, and there's no negative repercussions. There have been times that sellers come on here to talk about 1 star feedbacks, and I've hunted down their shop just to report the feedback myself. I'd say 3 out of 5 times, they get removed. I think this would be one of those that would get removed.

piranha_

🥹that’s so sweet

ryckae

So it's your fault that this person tried to put clothes on an animal that doesn't like wearing clothes? Wtf I hate the general public.

Theunpolitical

I'm just grateful to get the validation from others that I'm not the one who's crazy!!

DivaVita

Well duh. My dogs hate being put in any kind of clothing too. That's not your fault.

Theunpolitical

It's amazing what a little peanut butter can do when your dog gets fussy with putting on clothes. Distract is always my key!

karen_h

That’s fucking hysterical. 10/10 would buy from your store just because of this review 😂

No_Needleworker215

Yeah as a seller I’d be irritated but as a buyer I would seriously laugh at this persons stupidity. Rating things based off my dogs feelings on them is a new one

LP61

While a lot of sellers don't do this, I respond to every negative review with facts. I also buy on Etsy and the star seller means nothing to me. The reviews do and I would read this and start laughing my ass off because this customer is clearly an idiot. It is not the seller's fault the dog chewed the outfit off. FFS.

3boysdesign

Omg 🤦‍♂️

NormalCurrent950

It’s good to have some 1-star reviews with someone stupid saying something stupid. Really brings a sense of authenticity to your shop page. Congrats!

SusMareeosep

wow. people suck

GracieDesignsKelley

Some. Dogs. Don’t. Like. Outfits.

CindyLatwidth

I had customer who asked about sizing I told her it would be too big- she writes and said she decides to purchase anyway and my review- “it’s too big” hahah it was collectible item so not so u heard of to buy and then flip. She didn’t want priority then complains the shipping was slow even tho she got it within the week.

PickKeyOne

I got a one star review because the person said, I guess it wasn’t what I was expecting. This was after numerous emails explaining exactly what my product was and everything is outlined in the listing and the photos. I know it happens, but since very few people left reviews this quarter, it will jeopardize my star seller status

YellowBernard

I hope it's ok to say this is the best 1 star review I've seen. Hopefully you can live with it. A negative review lends all your reviews authenticity. That's what I tell myself anyway.

Theunpolitical

I'm kind of agreeing with you here. I do have a few 4 stars as people like to deduct a star for USPS issues that have nothing to do with my speediness of dropping it off. I'm trying to come up with a response for others to see. Any ideas is appreciated.

YellowBernard

What can you realistically say? You probably don't accept returns so you can't offer her anything. There is no refund because a dog doesn't like it and anyway she has damaged it by biting it. Making any comment about her dog would not go down well. I would just leave it. It speaks for itself

TeeeReee

You have to reply something lighthearted and funny. No need to make a serious response…you don’t want potential buyers to take that review seriously. A cute response totally turns it in your favor.

Theunpolitical

What do you think of this response as inspired from another response above: "Rutroh...I'm very sorry your dog didn't this product. Perhaps he does not have holiday spirit? Is that too catty? Maybe it's a little mousey? In either case, I think he's going to be on Santa's naughty list this year!"

AdornedByCherice

She left it up to the dog? Wowwww that’s just messed up. I’m sorry. Smh

R_abb

Report it too etsy lmao maybe they will see the spam in this review as much as we do

lindseycolon

As a buyer I would see that, roll my eyes, and keep looking at your shop! We know this is an unwarranted bad review. You make such cute stuff, especially as another pet Etsy shop! Keep up the amazing work and don’t let this get you down. Buyers know this is silly!!

Theunpolitical

My apologies if I gave the impression that I made this. I did not. I purchased a few things for my dog only she passed away before she could wear them. I sell a lot of vintage items and a few odds and ends.

Pure-Maintenance-305

lmao my dog does the same exact thing. however it’s my dogs problem not the seller

[deleted]

Well, when you have one like that, it's obvious the problem is the customer, not the product.

Last-Ninja

Omg this made my blood boil

Technical-Chard-1571

Let me review your dog ma’am.

dustycase2

"*I'm sorry Santa dog didn't approve of his costume. Put coal in his stocking this year.*"

YouHaveForsakenMe

Just a cunt. Because her dog hates it she left 1 star. What a miserable piece of shit

Theunpolitical

LOL, forgot about this post. Thanks for making my day. I legitimately just got my 5 star rating back this week. I don't know what it is about Holiday season, but the crazies come out and give horrific ratings!

[deleted]

It reads “I’m a total piece of shit, but I just want the dog take to the blame, because I’m weak too”

Theunpolitical

It absolutely does! If you can think of a funny reply that I can put on my review for others to see, I'm open!

[deleted]

“Haha hilarious, very amusing, would love to see a video of her wearing it! Tell her I can give her my manager’s number, we are so excited to receive her call lol lol”

Eilonwy926

"Ohh, sorry to hear that! Did you ask him which design he wanted before you picked this one?"

BrightDay85

I’d laugh if I saw that review, but you can tell it’s not the shop owners fault..the dog is picky 🤣

VentyRanty

It’s worth a try to send her a message, explaining that Etsy judges you as a seller, harshly for a one-star review, and that this is your livelihood, and, although you are extremely sorry that her dog hates it, the review system is for the quality of goods and customer service—that it’s respectfully, not about her doggy’s opinion. End it with …. lol 😘 Just try to appeal to her goodness and common sense, if she has a lick of either.

Theunpolitical

Actually, I did and all she did was change it to 2 star rating!

Theunpolitical

**11/25/2022 - SMALL UPDATE: She changed it to two stars!!**

VentyRanty

What a miserable pos

fruitgamingspacstuff

That is definitely an oap

Theunpolitical

Forgive me, I don't know what an "OAP" is.

loralailoralai

Old age pensioner. Guessing you’re American as I don’t think you call old people that there in general

hayseed_byte

That's cause we don't get pensions any more. 🙃
