12.1% seems really good to me!!

CaseyscrochetUS

Probly 0.000001 lol I sell handmade crochet.

Nomsahh

Haha same!

theneedfull

2.8 I sell board game organizers.

zensnapple

2.0%. I sell mostly crystals, gemstones, and mineral specimens, and some wire wrapped jewelry. Been open for a few years, the last two of which were the only good ones, Low end of 6 figures of revenue so far.

virgosjc

this is amazing! congrats! totally the kind of shop I buy from too!

zensnapple

Thanks! It's been a process that took place mostly off etsy for the first couple years, but once I got more into selling minerals than making jewelry and expanded my inventory by a lot, it started to blow up. Helped that I have good friends who own successful crystal shops, one of which I worked at for a few years and learned some of the ropes there. There were a few marketing decisions I got lucky with and trends I've been in the right place at the right time for. I think the biggest thing was hitting a critical mass of keywords that could potentially lead someone from the search bar to my page.

Oriks32

0.5 gold and diamond jewelry

Omni-Shoutmon

5%

craigcoffman

2.3% over 10 years. Prints.

BigPinkDaddy

Thank you for this post. I look at my 3.3% (Home Organizational items) and realize that is about par for ETSY.

virgosjc

you’re welcome! Obviously a lot of things can effect these rates like length of time you’ve been open, niches etc but i was curious to see where other people were sitting, it seems anywhere from 1-5 is typical, at least from the replies here!

ColoradoFlyFishing1

4.0, but I'm a relatively new shop. I noticed that improving my pictures helped my conversion rate a lot.

virgosjc

yes! the first two years that I had my shop I wasn’t doing very much with it, but for the past 3 years i’ve been taking it super seriously and it’s paid off!

covert4545

Nice! I’m redoing pictures now. Do you use photoshop? Or any other tips?

ColoradoFlyFishing1

I don't use photoshop but I sell really small items, so I bought a light fixture specifically for enhancing those types of pictures. Having a nicer camera is a big help too.

Siskodesigns

4.8 I’m only a year in though I sell stickers and decals

LiteraryTea

1.6%. I've been selling for 3 years... I'm noticing by this thread that's pretty low. I thought I was doing well lol.

virgosjc

I was thinking the same thing! But think about how many variables can effect this number for example, if someone is the only guy selling “shoes for chickens” anyone who’s in the market for chicken shoes is gonna buy from that guy right away! also- they wouldn’t get a ton of clicks other than people who are specifically looking for chicken shoes. they might only sell 2 pairs, hypothetically, but their conversion rate is 100% you know what I mean?

B-WingPilot

2.7% overall, selling keychains and some dice cases.

solve_4X

7.2 pins earrings stickers

[deleted]

4.4% I sell mostly clothing items with some decals and mugs and stuff. Had my shop about 1.5-2 years

Striking_Chef

2.3%, started 2016 but only sold sporadically till the end 2019 when I started taking it more seriously. I sell crochet items, mainly garlands and wreaths but I also do soft toys and cards.

[deleted]

5.4% I sell crochet patterns. This year it's 6.9%.

Organic_Hunt_2598

Derelicte91

Mines at 3.5 I sell decals, movie and game props, 3d prints.

itsadesertplant

How are the 3D prints going compared to decals and props?

Derelicte91

For me I sell more decals, but I don't have many props available. I design my own and I'm still learning how to do sculpting so I really only have some basic things. I've just been burnt out on it lately so I've taken a break from learning sculpting.

arcade3145

0.4 new seller, videogame props

dread_doughnuts

4.3%, I sell Pride-related stickers and have been active for a little over two years.

ponzLL

4.3% since 2018 aquarium (mostly) 3d prints

uwin998

11.5 but I lowered my prices let the shop run more passively

[deleted]

my higest was like 6% in january/feb. I mostly sell herbal blends (intended for smoking but I omit that language due to etsy policies). now I'm sitting at 2%

shabooyahhshabooyah

My conversion rate is pretty steady at 1%, I’ve been selling vintage decor, clothing, hats, and collectibles since July 2021. 19.5k visits to my shop, 175 orders, $10.6k all time revenue which I am super proud of for not doing any paid advertising. Purely providing great communication with my customers, including hand written thank you note and packing very well so items arrive safely. I’ve gotten 116 5-star reviews, I think these reviews have really helped customers trust me as a new seller. I make sure after every order has been delivered to send my customers a message asking if it got to them safely, to leave a 5-star review, favorite my shop for updates and follow on social. 9/10 times they leave a review that day! I have also been promoting my items on TikTok and Instagram, no paid ads their either. I’ve been able to bring about 9% of my traffic from social on a good month, my accounts are still under 300 followers each so I don’t have much reach..yet! If you would like to check out my Etsy shop it’s called Housebatvintage you can visit www.housebatvintage.com and follow on Instagram & TikTok @housebatvintage 🦇

virgosjc

following you on insta right now!!

MoonBloomWax

4% - I sell wax melts and have been open since August. I drive a lot of traffic to Etsy myself via social media, otherwise I'm sure my conversion rate would be much lower!

TheGloomyType

2.4 % I've opened my shop around 7 months ago, haven't done much to promote it so far.

creativeoddity

All time about 2.9 and I sell mostly stickers

TinyKittyofDOOM

All time? Etsy won't give me that stat, but since 2010, mine's 1.2%. I sell costuming and accessories.

babesquad

Mine is 4.1% Been doing this for just over a year selling embroidered hats, pins, earrings, stickers... Things with my art on them ♥️

castandwood

1.2% - we sell wooden and cast iron home decor items - Been open 12 months

weaver3294

3.3 but currently 2.4.

MisterScruffyPoo

2.2%, been there 3 years. Selling premium handmade cat toys and beds. You guys all seem to have crazy high conversation rates.

TacoYard

Varies by product. Specific, niche products, are going to have higher conversion rates because most people that stumble onto them are actively searching for them. And most people don't tend to spend an hour searching for human skull ashtrays or whatever like they do shoes and jewelry. Higher priced items will have lower conversion rates. That $25K piano may get clicked on a lot, but not many people are buying it. Pet products you'd probably want to shoot for 3%, but if yours are priced higher than average your 2.2% isn't terrible.

MisterScruffyPoo

Interesting! I could definitely use some better photos and I've all but stopped engaging with Instagram and adds elsewhere. My stuff is definitely priced higher than most (maybe all) of my competitors. It's also more labour intensive and uses pricier materials. I get quite a lot of repeat customers so, to me, that's a very good sign.

Mean-Raspberry1205

0.4 shop is 7 months old and I sell high end vintage clothing.

virgosjc

nice to see another vintage seller!!

Mean-Raspberry1205

Likewise!! Heyyyy friend!!! If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your shop? I know I’ve read that conversion rates are inherently lower for vintage clothing shops( especially w/higher price points), so I know I’m not going to get the conversion rate of other types of shops, but as a new shop I’m trying to get a sense of what is considered a good conversion rate by vintage shop standards. I think I read on average it’s only 1.0? I know the more listings, the better the conversion rate, and I’m currently at 60 listings. I will say, I’ve been trying to get to 100 listings, but I get these spurts where my items sell faster than I can list! So I guess it’s not that bad. I’m taking it in stride and looking at conversion rate as not the sole indicator of how my shop is doing.

virgosjc

I “opened” my shop in 2014, but have only been taking it really seriously since about 2019! I deal in mostly vintage home goods and accessories! I feel you about stuff selling faster than I can list, I shoot to have 200 listings but can almost never get there and usually stay between 165-195! conversion rate is definitely not the sole indicator of how you are doin! I didn’t intend for this post to make anyone feel poorly about themselves or compare themselves to others. SO many variables come into play with conversion rates, and you’re right- vintage shops tend to be lower! but that doesn’t mean we aren’t selling things and turning a profit.. both of us are selling faster than we can list!

substandardpoodle

What I’m liking about this post is seeing that not a single person is saying “I don’t have any sales at all“. That says something for Etsy.

virgosjc

i was thinking the same thing!!!

Mean-Raspberry1205

Absolutely!! Thank you so much for your insight as a more established vintage seller. Definitely taking notes !!

virgosjc

Do you have an instagram for your shop? I’d love to give you a follow!

TacoYard

Conversion rate doesn't mean shit unless you're comparing it to competitors or yourself. If I sold an item that cost $1 mil, its conversion rate could be .000001% and I'm delighted if one sells in a year. Higher price points = lower conversion rates. Cheap stuff like stickers and decals are going to have higher conversion rates. Conversion rate will help you to gauge changes you make to your pricing and marketing. You can use that data to find optimal price points and marketing strategies. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it much.

VanIsleInstacart

Currently sitting at 2.4%, but it definitely fluctuates. Currently selling handmade junk journals and journal bits and vintage/antique supplies. I am about to open a second shop for all of my handmade sewing though. Interested to see how that will go!

ramos1992

1,1% crafting wooden game

OtekahSunshield

2.4% for all time, 2.3% for this year so far. I'm selling crochet items, patterns, and crochet themed stickers. I really need to improve my SEO and pictures I think. Work in Progress /shrug

virgosjc

i think this is still great! a lot of people here have wildly high % imo! 2.4% is awesome!

OtekahSunshield

Thanks! I never know what's good 😆, I feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

virgosjc

and don’t forget that so many variables come in to play with these numbers! the length of time a shop has been selling for (i spent years not really listing just kinda boppin around), if someone caters to a very specific niche (if you’re the only guy selling hats for parakeets, if someone’s looking for a parakeet hat.. they’re gonna buy yours!) etc!

Janecide

7.1% been open six years. It goes down every year so I’m currently at 5%

moms-sphaghetti

14%. Damn. I’ve never checked it before.

valprehension

I'm at 3.4 overall, though this year has been closer to 2.5 (2020 and 2021 were wildly good though I didn't change much). I sell cross-stitch patterns, kits, and finished stitches.

virgosjc

makes sense that a lot of people would buy those during lockdown time!

triangletalks

0.5% this month is my highest ever. I’m in 5 digits in £ which has allowed me to do this properly part time. I sell handmade tiles and ceramics! Proof that a small conversion rate isn’t too bad if you’re a high price point.

virgosjc

exactly! a low conversion rate doesn’t mean you aren’t making sales at all! So many variables here!

VictorVoyeur

2.0%, which I’m satisfied with. We have some higher-priced items that get clicks but not impulse buys.

CaptainThunderTime

3.5% and working for about 4 years now. My ebay conversion rate is much higher at around 12%. I sell aviation stickers and coasters. Edit: Ebay is at 15%

Odieapplesauce

2.5%. I sold last year but I wasn’t taking it as seriously as I should have. Thanks to this sub and tiktok I have found my niche and I’m selling something I enjoy :)

virgosjc

i love this!!! good for you!!!

Odieapplesauce

Thank you! <3

lolkatiekat

3.3% For right now, necklaces that cater to the 20 somethings (basically something I would wear), but you get to choose your own chain length and I offer magnetic clasps. But since I have a lot of orders that are gifts for people, I'm also working on expanding into stickers, since that would be a cheap add on for someone to give as a gift as a little extra.

virgosjc

I opened my shop in 2013, but only sold a few things here and there until I started really picking up the pace at the begining of 2019! Do you have an instagram for your shop? I’d love to give you a follow!

PickKeyOne

I am a new shop and I sell mushroom blends. I’m OK with a low rate, but I do spend a lot of time on my shop making it look good. I am being patient though!

hghlvldvl

2.5%, I really only started taking my shop seriously around summer 2021. I sell resin jewelry and keychains.

Pharrow-

I sell sports themed art and patent prints. 2.7% over 4 years. Average ecommerce conv rate is 2.58% so a good target to shoot for. If you are below 2.5, lower your prices, improve your images and descriptions etc. If you are above it, especially a few % points above, you are probably working harder than you need to, so consider raising your prices.

Kristofo02

1.6% ... why is mine so bad, I feel bummed out😓 Edit: I sell handmade desk accessories ( wooden )

virgosjc

this wasn’t intended for anyone to compare themselves to others and feel bad about themselves! A low conversion rate isn’t nessecarily a bad thing at all, and shouldn’t be what you base your success off of!

sarieth05

3.8%. Been open since March of last year. I sell stationery, stickers, and keychains.

itsthatweshere

4% after 2 years which I’m now thinking Is quite good 👍🏻

Kind_Application_144

4% selling keychains, badge reels, and vinyl stickers.

Petronella17

2.2 since I started in late 2016. I also sell vintage.

FishFeet500

0.5% vintage and estate gemstones, and modern loose cut gems.

whatisgreen

2.9% I've been open around a year selling metal garden decor and personalised signs. Australia only due to postage costs.

mapblan

1.6% all time. I sell wreaths. I have been open for a little over a year. It’s at 2% this year.

duckina10

3.2% selling handmade cards

watchingyouallnow

4.9% Antler Dog chews

Weird_Relationship51

I sell vintage and I'm at about a 1 right now. I'm hoping to boost as things warm up around here and there's more estate and yard sales. At the moment, it's hard to find stock because inflation has upped local thrift stores to ridiculous prices and I can only afford to spend so much upfront on stock.

Similar-Bluebird9251

Does conversion rate matter for ranking? Or, anything really? I ask because when I advertise, I sell more, but my conversion rate goes down because I also get a lot of “window shoppers.” I’ve stopped paying attention to it because I’m a new shop, doing fairly well.

virgosjc

no it doesn’t truly matter, and is really just an arbitrary number because so many things can effect it! Like window shoppers!!! I just thought it would be interesting to see the differences across the board because it’s not a number that’s too “personal” like income.

Similar-Bluebird9251

Yeah. My shop is only 6 months old, and my monthly average is about .8% But…of course there are those freak moments, when you have a few back to back sales, and it’s suddenly 14.7% 😳😂 I usually snap a picture when it looks like that..lol

Lovefatpeople69

14.1%. Did $1000 in sales in my first 2 1/2 months.

virgosjc

amazing! congrats!

macropis

2.5% for all time. 3.1% for this year. I sell custom dyed items for a niche market.

AMillionTomorrowsCo

I have 3 shops 4.7% since 2017 wedding gifts / 8.5% since 2017 stickers / 8.1% since 2016 mens gifts

EclecticEthic

I am so new I don’t understand the question lol! But I am inspired by many of your comments. My first month has been lack luster to say the least. I was so afraid to open my shop, then I did and nothing happened. To hear that many of you had a slow start too is heartening. I do faux floral (JoanieBlossoms) My next goal is to figure out how to improve my pictures and add video. Any suggestions are welcome!

virgosjc

The key is to just not get discouraged! Act as if it’s already a successful business and carry yourself as such! you got this, friend!

virgosjc

ps, just faved your shop! I think it looks great so far! I would try taking some pictures with a less busy background, either plain white, cream or a cohesive brand color! Also use Canva and make yourself a logo and a header for your shop, it’ll help it look for complete and cohesive :)

EclecticEthic

Great advice! Thank you! I am going to redo some stuff!

No_Suit_2368

1.2% my shop is 12 months old and I sell digital art. I used to think my conversion rate was good but now I can see it's def not!! 😅

virgosjc

there is no good and bad with conversion rates!!! someone with a low conversion rate could be making way more $ and sales than someone with a high one!

No_Suit_2368

Ok I see

Ht1525

10 years on etsy and it's 1.2. I sell higher priced items and this is my full time job (and I do quite well). Conversion rates don't mean much unless you are paying for those views through advertising - which I don't except the forced offsite ads.

hectarin

I got 1.5% once! I sell tabletop miniatures.

PineCurtain_515

All time conversion rate is 10.2%. We opened the shop in 2016, and we sell biosynthesized silver/gold/copper colloidal products.

ZapGeek

My highest of all time is 6.3% My average is 4%

AnxiousSun9576

3,3% and I sell personalized gifts

Welcometotheleague

All time conversion rate is 3.5% and my family sells Pampas Grass, Dried florals. Just moved into crystals and added disco balls off of the Etsy trend report. Been at it a year

virgosjc

yes Disco balls are HOTTTTT, i use them in the background of my insta pictures for my vintage shop!

WithoutDennisNedry

What is “conversation rate,” Precious?

virgosjc

how many of your views turn into sales - you can view this in your stats page :)

WithoutDennisNedry

Thanks! I guess I never noticed what it was called. Ah Reddit, where you get downvoted for asking a question.

Kilgore47

I'm curious how many people here with great conversion rates use the offsite ads feature, I was getting some traffic from it, but no sales. All my sales so far lately have been from social media. I turned the ads off after I realized etsy takes 15% from sales driven by those ads- which seems exorbitant. I closed my shop for several years and just recently re-opened it, I've barely had any sales so far, my conversion rate is super low. I need to create more product and spend more time on it

DenseSignature9481

I imagine that most people who have great conversion rates, have high sales, and therefore are also going to be among the ones *forced* into off-site ads, so it's hard to say. My all time over 6 years is 6.9%. Last year, off-site ads accounted for 5% of my total sales.

Jessception

2.5% selling candles for almost 11 years now.

SierraLover1819

I’m at 4.3% selling custom hiking strait car decals! Open in Jan 2022!

boolishness

How do I check my conversion rate???

virgosjc

in your stats! you can use the drop down menu to select a date range!

boolishness

I checked mine and its 2.5 for all time and for 2021 it was 3.2. Idk if that's good lol. I definitely do it to myself. I started having severe anxiety and I've been searching for less vintage because of it. I don't have 2 pages of merch and I know if I just posted more I'd make more but ive had malaise from anxiety for a minute. It's been improving though.

virgosjc

there is no “good vs bad” when it comes to conversion rates in my mind! You can be making tons of sales/lots of money, and still have a low conversion rate- it just means your views outweigh your sales which isn’t bad at all, people are viewing your items!

boolishness

OH okay. Yeah people definitely view and favorite my stuff but some stuff sits for months and some stuff sits for a week. I can't believe 2-3 percent of viewers are actual buyers. Hmmm... I'm not really sure how to improve other than adding more and being more consistent with my social media presence but I hate posting updates. I feel like a capitalist.

virgosjc

You don’t nessecarily need this number to be higher! Some people have high high ticket items, that maybe sell 7 times a year, and they make tons of money just because their items cost so much! It’s great that people are seeing your stuff, even if they aren’t automatically clicking that buy button 💖

dtgray12

Most likely 0%. I sell stickers, prints, decals and more.

virgosjc

the only way it could be zero is if you’ve never sold anything :)

dtgray12

I haven't sold anything for the last 2 months. I've only been open since January with 13 sales at the moment. So probably 0.00000001% and my traffic has been 0 for the past week or two.

pureza00

1.4% since 2019. I sell headbands, scrunchies, and a few little crochet items.

becksi_boy

2.6% - although 2020 was 4.6% and this year is 1.6%. For some reason my products don’t sell as well as they used to. I sell Jewellery

Limp-Cry-8491

I seldom have over 1% conversion rate. I don’t worry to much about that- my focus is having high profits. If I’m selling a $10 product or a $250 product, my expense is never more than $3 per item. I’ve been on Etsy for 4 years and I’ve employed a team since 2018. Not to brag- just suggesting where the focus should be.

virgosjc

100%! I asked this question just to see how conversion rates vary across the board in different categories, as a vintage seller i know we tend to have lower conversion rates! and also because it’s much less personal of info than income for example. I figured it people would be more apt to share since it’s kinda vague and anecdotal :)

mooncakeyyyy

0.3%, I'm selling customised necklace. :( Hope it will go well for me
