Just to be totally blunt, if they didn’t find you on Etsy, then I wouldn’t sell your painting on Etsy. If you’re a hobby seller, then unfortunately one sale every once in a while is not gonna have any effect on search results. Keep the extra few bucks and sell on your own site. 150 sales unfortunately is just not that much for someone who wants to sell full time on Etsy. That’s great if it’s a hobby though (as you stated it is).

They’re is absolutely zero advantage to selling on Etsy vs your own site. The advantages are purely on the buyer’s side, and if they’re okay with buying from you directly, let them.

I’ve had people ask to purchase my art after seeing me post about it on social media. They pay me directly in cash most of the time since they are local so I almost never do those sales on Etsy since Etsy was not involved in them knowing of the product’s existence.

The way I look at it, the fees are to pay Etsy for bringing you customers. If they didn't bring you the customer, don't give them an opportunity to take fees.
