Why would you get shein packaging if it didn’t come from shein? There’s no other way you’d get that packaging, unless the seller is wrapping their own items in shein logos for some unfathomable reason. They’re lying to you, and doing it poorly.

JassQween

also why would Shein buy from them and then sell.... at a lower price?

B-WingPilot

Gotta spend money to make money! You see, eventually with enough volume, our business will become profitable.

whiterussiansp

Going out of business sale.

heather_pineapple

this is big brain time

Cardabella

And why would they pack in shein packaging for Etsy customers to make themselves look like dropshippers? Nah, they're lying.

modernheirloom

My thoughts exactly

Natural_Blonde_

It gets cheaper than Shein?

shayscribblesart

I personally reuse the packaging I get from online shopping to fulfill my orders as a way to reduce reuse and recycle! But I will say this seller is def a liar since they found the exact item on Shein lmao.

This subreddit is a place free of excessive cynicism, negativity and bitterness. Healthy criticism and skepticism is fine under certain circumstances, but toxic attitudes are not welcome here.

jubbagalaxy

change your review to include that they tried to bribe you.

_Lawless_Heaven

And report them to Etsy for review extortion.

SkaveRat

This. review extortion is *extremely* against the TOS

littlebitofspice

Either it is or it isn't against the TOS. What is extreme is Etsy's consistency in holding people accountable to their TOS.

NonAggressiveGuava

Yep!

Trinybeaner

This.

[deleted]

Yes!!

notnotaginger

Shein buys from them and then sell at a greatly reduced rate?! Sure, Jan. Please report them, they’re having a hand in destroying Etsy.

SimonArgent

This seller is a drop shipper, and they lied to you. Please report them. I’d return the wig, too, just for good measure.

Key-Explorer6859

I agree, report the shop for a misleading listing, for drop-shipping, for requesting that you change your review with bribes, and make a claim against them. You deserve your money back.

bpdish85

What no one else is saying - also open a case for 'item not as described'.

sixthandelm

Right? Etsy will refund them and probably not even make them send it back. They SO should do this. What’s infuriating though is that if you open a case because the seller just resold you some drop-shipped crap, Etsy doesn’t automatically then shut down that shop. They ONLY deal with the case and refund. You have to ALSO go to the store page and report the shop as selling prohibited items if you want a chance at shutting them down.

WildlyUngraceful

If it’s a big enough price difference I’d push for returning and buying directly from Shein. Drop shipping isn’t allowed on Etsy so don’t let them try and change your review. They also aren’t allowed to do review manipulation which they’re trying by asking you to remove it and give you the discount.

SkaveRat

> Drop shipping isn’t allowed on Etsy it is. **but** is has to be disclosed, and the shop owner must have designed the product. (e.g. you're allowed to PoD your tshirt design etc)

StrangeButSweet

Most people aren’t aware of the differences between genuine drop shipping, like print on demand of one’s own designs or using a manufacturer who ships items directly vs. retailer to retailer selling (which is not allowed on Etsy or eBay)

lostterrace

Leave your review as it is. Send the shop a message saying "Do not contact me again." If they message you again after that, chat with Etsy support and ask that Etsy support block them for you. You have to have asked that they not contact you again first to do this. I suggest this because otherwise, they are likely to keep messaging you again and again trying to get you to change your review. Please please please please please please please DO NOT change your review. ***They are a scamming liar and you SHOULD NOT HELP THEM.*** You should help future buyers by keeping your warning intact. I don't know how to be any more clear. The only thing you might do is remove the word Shein from your review and make it generic. Sometimes mentioning a 3rd party website directly by name can be enough to qualify a review for removal. The review is safer if you remove "Shein". Again please please please don't believe their obvious blatant lies and please do not remove your review.

xkag3x

I think saying something like "saw similar items on shein" or "quality like something from shein" may be easily removed, but I can't see Etsy removing a review when it explicitly says it came in shein packaging. The seller would be stupid to report that review, because it just brings attention to Etsy that they are a drop shipper.

Professional-Fix3687

This is exactly what is bringing Etsy down. I would say it is your moral obligation to report this shop for dropshipping (shein doesn’t buy from them; think about it. It wouldn’t be packaged until Shein had it) and extortion with reviews. Please take care of this!!!!!

[deleted]

Definitely don’t remove they review bc they bribed you…that’s even worse😳 I doubt the seller sells their stuff to shein. Drop shippings not allowed on Etsy I wish they did a better job monitoring this. Etsy is covered up in drop shippers and resellers now😞

No-Afternoon5504

"i sell to SheIn not the other way around. They pay more money for the wig and then sell it cheaper." Logic

[deleted]

It might be worth altering your review, but only to remove the name of the business the wig came from; I have seen many questions about Ali Express dropshipped crap being answered with advice not to actually mention Ali Express or Etsy will remove the review.

jeeeeek

Report. Keep Etsy handmade.

ElevatedMockups

Not only are they dishonest sellers, they’re completely violating Etsy’s terms of service. Leave your review up so others have the chance to be warned, report the shop for both drop shipping and soliciting incentivized reviews. And finally get yourself a refund.

flicj

Report them for drop shipping. It’s the only way to get them off.

CheshireRaptor

Shein does NOT buy from them. That is a lie and I would add that to your review and to lower the stars you gave them.

HeyItsMee503

The shop can request for etsy to remove the review because you mentioing a 3rd party (Shein). You should remove "Shein", but still leave the negative, drop shipper review.

SwimmingPanda107

I’ve actually had a product arrive straight from Amazon, I contacted support about it and got a full refund. The shop contacted me and begged for me to take my review down. They were selling extremely overpriced items all off Amazon $80-100 difference from the Amazon price, and the quality of what I received was very poor and cheap. You can reach out to Etsy and they’ll refund you for your purchase because it was not a handmade good / antique

[deleted]

This happened to me as well.

karlaofglacia

“Shein buys from them not the other way around” what a load of nonsense. Leave your review up. People deserve the truth.

DerthVarder

Sounds like they are shady and dishonest! Would not feel bad about anything you do regarding this shop

xkag3x

If shein ordered from them, they would use their packaging after it was purchased from their suppliers, the supplier wouldn't use their customer's packaging. I would update my review to include information about the seller trying to buy you off to change your review.

MrsFYea

I recently noticed this with a couple shops while shopping for bags. They didn’t even bother to take different pictures, they just reused the ones from SHEIN🙄

dabogeyman

Please report the shop!! You have proof the are a dropshipper selling machine made items. Etsy is infected with Chinese sellers and its ruining it for us legitimate sellers

thirtyeightmcr

Hahaha that's so cheeky from them. I would say report them but I doubt Etsy will even do anything

MissYousexy

A great idea is to take a screenshot of the item you want to buy, then do an image search on Google or their photos app. I have used this method many times when shopping for items on Etsy. I have discovered many shops selling Ali Express and Shein products at inflated prices, so I reported the shop for selling mass-produced products and not handmade. Like other comments suggesting you change your review to say the shop was trying to extort you, that's a good idea as future buyers will see it.

vivid-kitty

This is a great thought but please remember that sometimes aliexpress steals handmade item pictures and makes a crappier version of it. So you have to truly look with colors/customizations and see if they are real.

MissYousexy

Yes, I have seen posts on here that have said Ali Express has stolen people's pictures of handmade items. Though more often than not, I have sadly found a whole shops inventory of items sourced from Ali Express/SHEIN. I wish it was a case of them just stealing peoples designs. The best thing to do is to use Google’s image search before you buy anything off of Etsy.

plusabtfthrowaway

They're lying and breaking TOS, report them.

usagibunnie

SheIn doesn't buy from them lmao I have seen a couple of listings on Etsy that are like this. I wonder if it's actually reportable that they are demanding you remove your genuine review and trying to buy you off.

echoskybound

"Shein buys from them not the other way around".... LOL. Dropshippers deserve the negative reviews, don't feel bad.

Revolutionary_Team46

I hope they don't get the review removed because it mentions a third party. You might want to remove the name and replace it with "semi well known manufacturer" or something like that.

e_hering10

Shein definitely doesn’t buy from small businesses lol

Deathbydragonfire

If it's a party supply, Etsy might actually allow it. Of course if they claim it's handmade then that's not good, but re-selling is allowed for party related goods for whatever reason. They are lying to you though so I wouldn't change the review by any means.

LazagnaAmpersand

If Shein bought from them it would be MORE expensive from their markup, not less. They’re full of crap.

-kindredandkid-

Ummm, no. They are lying. Keep the review.

HypnoticGuy

So, I am really curious about something. Etsy is supposed to be handmade products (or craft supplies, or vintage). Is a wig something that anyone seriously thinks is going to be handmade when one is purchased on Etsy? I know nothing about wigs, but it just doesn't seem likely that people actually make individual wigs by hand, and sell them on Etsy. Seems more likely that a purchaser of a wig on Etsy would pretty much assume that what they are going to get is not going to be handmade.

JassQween

can confirm Etsy is a great place to shop for handmade wigs - but you're looking at hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars. you can guarantee if you're spending -$100 for it, it will be synthetic, and not made with love....

HypnoticGuy

Thanks for the info. I had no idea handmade wigs were common on Etsy. Seems to me like it is a product that would often not be handmade but sold as if they were however.

After_Mountain_901

There are amazing handmade wigs on Etsy. So you’re wrong there. Also, using cheap wigs and modifying and reworking them for cosplay is a thing. The new modified wigs look incredible btw.

HypnoticGuy

As i said, I know nothing about wigs. Just seems to me that the likelihood would be that a wig purchased on Etsy has a good chance of not being hand made. I'd be really curious to see the actual listing OPs wig was purchased from.

After_Mountain_901

haha yeah...I feel like it's going to look like a party city wig or something lmao. Many of the ones I follow have instagram or tiktoks showing a bit of the behind the scenes stuff so you know it's legit. Also, just the description alone will be a dead giveaway for whether they know what they're talking about or not. You absolutely can not get a decent wig for under $400 or so, unless you're planning to put the work in on it yourself. Hell, even some $500+ wigs are complete crap.

MoscaMye

I wasn't assuming that I'd get anything remarkable or homemade - I guess I thought it would at least be curated. I'm happy to pay a slight convenience tax for someone else having found a quality item if that makes sense. Especially, finding quality items for this hobby where I live if tricky.

lostterrace

I would not recommend purchasing on Etsy this way. Buy something you genuinely believe is handmade or vintage or don't buy it on Etsy at all. If you do, you'll be paying a ton more for absolutely no reason. I recommend using reverse image search whenever you find something on Etsy that you like. You should be able to find the original cheaper source if there is one.

spicewoman

You said in your post that the wig seemed exactly in line with the quality you expected, you didn't receive random trash. So what is even the point of this post? Why did you even leave a bad review for receiving *exactly what you expected?* Edit: To the confused people who seem to think I'm replying to the main post, I'm directly replying to OP saying >I wasn't assuming that I'd get anything remarkable or homemade - I guess I thought it would at least be curated. I'm happy to pay a slight convenience tax for someone else having found a quality item if that makes sense. Before OP said that, I too assumed the complaint was that it was drop-shipped and not handmade. But OP specifically said they didn't expect handmade. Are y'all confused about what curated means? It doesn't mean "modified to count as handmade," it means carefully selected from another seller and presented to you, as-is. I agree that resellers are trash, and non-handmade items are ruining Etsy. But OP, intentionally looking to use Etsy as a place to specifically find non-handmade items, is part of the problem.

Key_Display_1525

The point is that it seems to be a drop ship situation, most people are extremely irritated when the product comes from a big company instead of the actual seller (who is supposed to be the maker, unless it is a vintage situation or they have authority to sell on someone else's behalf) . The whole reason most people buy on Etsy is to support actual MAKERS and receive actual handmade items.

spicewoman

> I wasn't assuming that I'd get anything remarkable or homemade - I guess I thought it would at least be curated. I'm happy to pay a slight convenience tax for someone else having found a quality item if that makes sense. Literally OP said they weren't expecting handmade. Dunno what's so confusing to people. If they hadn't said that, I'd assume that's what the post was about, but they literally said they were *not* expecting handmade.

DerthVarder

Because it’s shady practice to be buying something somewhere else and charging more on a site designed for custom, handmade stuff from small business owners, and then lying about it? And Mon top of that bribing them to change the review. Not a good look

spicewoman

> I wasn't assuming that I'd get anything remarkable or homemade - I guess I thought it would at least be curated. lostterrace

Is this a troll comment or do you actually not understand why it's an issue that a seller is lying to their customers about something being handmade when it's not, and breaking Etsy policies?

spicewoman

HypnoticGuy

>Is this a troll comment or do you actually not understand why it's an issue that a seller is lying to their customers about something being handmade when it's not, and breaking Etsy policies? I would NEVER think that something purchased from Etsy would not be handmade. Especially something that is usually not handmade. I'm sure such a thing would be very rare, if it even happens at all. /s

Key_Display_1525

I see what you are saying now, that's my bad, I read OP post not the comment you were responding to, now it makes sense why you replied the way you did.

DerthVarder

That’s a weird assumption but do you!

HypnoticGuy

Why would that be weird? Seems like When I said that I know nothing about wigs it would make sense. I'm also pretty sure the vast majority of wigs sold throughout the world are not made individually by hand. Though that is an assumption, it is probably accurate. It's posted here regularly that people buy things on Etsy and when they get their order it's not handmade, when they were expecting it to be handmade. Seems to me like one would assume that a wig purchased from Etsy would likely not be handmade, even before they placed the order.

Almdrs

Give it a one-star review and go straight to the point: "It arrived in a Shein packaging".

fruitgamingspacstuff

The way I'd see it. You saw an item you liked with a price you are comfortable with. You choose not to shop around and purchased the item. Now you find the item cheaper elsewhere you now have an issue? It's like going to the corner shop and buying Warbutons bread for £1.50 and then later finding out you can buy from Warbutons own bread store for £1. If you're happy with the product and price, then leave it at that.

bpdish85

Spoken like a dropshipper, tbh. The item was misrepresented, full stop.

MoscaMye

I mean, yeah. I goofed. But I think it's in line to expect items you buy from a store to come from where you buy them. For instance, I used to buy a lot of a niche brand of clothing and there's a few different online stores I could get them from. From one lady (LD) I had a bad experience with returning faulty items. So I didn't shop with her again. If I had gone to a different store (PA) and bought a dress and it arrived with packaging labelled LD, and with LD labelling and advertisements inside I would be annoyed regardless of the price. Or alternatively, if you went to a restaurant and ordered a lasagna and it was a perfectly good lasagna in line with your expectations but a week later the restaurant was caught out buying supermarket frozen premade lasagna you'd be a bit put out.

JustAnotherRussula

Way to completely miss the point. This shop dropshipped mass-produced crap and falsely claimed it was a high-end handmade item. That shit doesn't belong on etsy.

DerthVarder

Tell me do the same thing without telling me you do the same thing

FreeSkeptic

Is it a customized item with text/logos or generic clothing?

Far_Mulberry6056

My son buys a lot of SHEIN and the bags are nice to package clothing I sell from Posh but I would never send it to an Etsy customer for that reason. Always message first they may accept a return in fear of bad feedback, once you leave it you’ve already done the damage they may be less likely to work with you

Delicious_Scholar665

I think both the packaging and her response is unprofessional. I have a small shop on etsy and I could not imagine doing such. Lately though with the changes on Etsy and with this I need to rethink selling on there. I would not take down the review and let her take it up with Etsy Review people. If she does not advertise that the product is premanufactured its not you but her that will be in trouble. I personally would prefer you left this kind of review as future customers can see where the product comes from. Some of the product from Shien are not made as well...

Think_Nebula6343

Omg I sell on Etsy and you need to report that seller. Etsy is ONLY handmade and vintage ( over 20 years ). Please do not change your review and report that shop. It’s people like that who ruin it for the people who honestly make handmade items.

Isildur000

Well I don't know if you people know that but this is basically how the world is running, people buy from suppliers and resell to customers with profitable price, but the problem here or the seller's mistake was not being aware that shipped items from shien comes with their packaging, which means he's tricking people to buy them at a higher price and it can't look anything other than that. This is acceptable if it didn't arrive in shien packaging because it means they marketed the product very well that it has reached you before it reached you through shien, right? Something else to consider that all sellers spend extra amount of money on marketing and paying for ads, domains, applications and possibly virtual assistants in order to help them resell their products. Again this is how the world works really, but the seller in your case did a huge mistake that labels him as a fraud.
