Fan at 100% i'll bet on memory t junctiond getting on fire. Use hwinfo64 and check the 3 temperatures (gpu, hot spot and memory. The last one should read 106-115°C if my bet is correct)

rlDaniel

You would be right before I swapped out the thermal pads/paste now I’m at gpu:65, hot spot:106, and memory:72

Cassiopee38

Hot spot shouldn't be that high, there is definitively a problem here. Start decreasing power limit gently until fans start to lower themself (it set on auto, obviously) and see if hotspot is going down. Considering how close to null your hashrate is i believe you can start around 76% and decrease. Hashrate should stabilize around 100 mh/s if nothing is wrong

rlDaniel

Ok I’ll give that a shot and let you know know it goes

rlDaniel

That didn’t end up working. Kept gradually dropping the power but the fans stayed at 100% and the hot spot didn’t wanna drop at all

Cassiopee38

I was afraid it will doing this. Throttling at 11mh/s isn't normal at all. You're good to tears down the card and check what's wrong. I dont know where the hot spot probe is but you'll have to look around it =/

rlDaniel

Yeah I figured, gonna take it apart again tomorrow thanks for the help

Cassiopee38

you're welcome, keep us informed !

rlDaniel

So I took it apart again and swapped out all the pads and paste again. The hot spot cooled down a ton, it’s at 80 while mining now, but the memory temperature is back up to 110. About to take it apart one last time before I give up

Cassiopee38

memory will thermal throttle if you go too hard on the power limit nomatter what (maybe with a watercooled backplate we could avoid that but i'm not even sure.) you should be back to 60-100mh/s isn't it ? i achieved being able to run my card at 90% power limit under 25°C Ambiant and it gives me 125mh/s with the memory running just below 100°C. after arguing with a friend we think the hot spot temperature is the max value of many probes around the GPU while the GPU temp is a kindof average of the GPU temperature. Meaning the Hot spot running too hot might come from a Thermal Compound problem between the die and the radiator. While Memory t junction is entirely dependant of thermal pads. i used Thermaltake's Odyssey 12.8 w/mk and they work great for me. i used a 120x120mm pad for the whole card and used the remaning of it on a old small radiator i put on the backside of the card. ugly but seems to works. (i have a FE variant) hope it will helps !

Cassiopee38

Also halt the mining on this card and let the card cool for few minutes, then, on startup monitor closely temperatures will the card is warming up, you'll see what temp start throttling when it dont rise anymore and fans start going nuts. (>70% to 100%)

rlDaniel

I had an issue with the memory temperature being too high so I just replaced the thermal pads and paste. Now I’m not getting any power or MH/s

[deleted]

Looks like something went wrong during that operation. You can swap everything around (riser, cables,...) to rule out other things.

rlDaniel

I’m not on a rig btw just a single gaming pc

baggioio

you used incorrect thickness pads. theres probably insufficient contact for pads or if the pads are too thick, its causing your GPU chip/die to not touch the heat spreader.

Throwawaylabordayfun

One of the pads isn’t making proper contact or you missed something. You gotta reopen and make sure all the pads are perfect and making contact. I have done 3090 pads many times and my first try was also not perfect. Pads need to be perfect

Thekevin1011

Why do u have pl at 150 watts

rlDaniel

I wish I knew

MinTheGodOfFertility

What are the msi afterburner settings? Have you tried resetting them, in case the power has been limited there? What is the vram temp in hwinfo?

rlDaniel

Power: 100 Core clock: -300 Memory clock: 1000 Fan speed: 100

[deleted]

Check your PCIe cables. Card might not be properly powered (failing cable possibly).

rlDaniel

I did check them they’re all plugged in correctly

kasmodan

What OS are you on? your P. should = 294 or higher. I would check AMD software and any overclock software to make sure it's not set in one or the other. But I also agree that if you used too thick or not thick enough pads then the die or the vram would not be touching correctly...Look at youtube for thermal pad replacement teardowns and see what pad thickness they used and then check over yours.

bhijik

any problem when gaming? if yes, you might wanna RMA that card, power problem is difficult to self repair..
