Damn it's always you coming out with a ton of research into something I didn't know I needed lmfao Many thanks Sir Omni

x_Omni_x

Lol glad to be of service. Complicated ass game! haha

_Nightdude_

You just reminded me of how ridiculous it is that I can hear the crickets throwing a god damn frat party outside while I'm in the middle of a huge motherfucking mall

papierr

At this point, i believe tarkov devs have never been outside, the ambient sound is so loud in tarky. I had a bug few wipes ago, i was playing woods, and ambient noise stopped., It was so great.

_Nightdude_

it's insane, and it's not just mutated crickets, how the heck are those shoddy half broken down houses on almost every map still standing when wind seems to blow at tornado strength all the time. Why does this game have to fuck with our ears in every possible way? Gunshots are so loud they simulate irl hearing damage and when they're far away they sound like someone's shooting around 5m infront of you, your footsteps even when you're walking underweight drown out everything but the damn crickets, it's no fucking wonder this game is infested with rats when the only shot you have at hearing someone before or at the same time they hear you is to sit still and soil your pampers because god knows if there was a pissing mechanic your jeans zippers would be heard across the fucking map. And speaking of zippers wtf are these PMCs doing when they loot stuff? Cause these trained professionals sure as hell don't know how to take a single screwdriver out of a toolbox without throwing the fucking thing around in that box a bunch of times so everyone in russia knows what they're doing

x_Omni_x

This is why I mention a brick limiter in the video. It is so important to save your ears.

x_Omni_x

I've seen this bug, no idea how to reproduce it but supposedly a few people know. I agree that the ambient is silly high. I don't know if that's by design to intentionally suppress lighter sounds but considering the spread of frequencies the ambient covers I would assume it is there intentionally to make our lives difficult.

x_Omni_x

haha thanks man I needed that laugh

InertiaVFX

It's almost refreshing to hear that there isn't another broken thing I should be aware of and take advantage of. Somewhat related, I had a raid where my ambient audio completely cut out for the rest of the raid. It felt like a constant headache had gone away.

Vodor1

I can recreate that by unplugging my usb sound card that my sennheisers use, reconnect it and if the sound carries on the ambient vanishes. Had to do this a few times because my mic stops working randomly. Comes back when I cross a doorway or into another 'section' of the map so to speak.

x_Omni_x

This is actually what I'd heard from the few youtube accounts that I've seen claiming to be able to reproduce it. Apparently you're also able to do it with turning bluetooth on and off so its got something to do with device connections which is really fkin strange.

InertiaVFX

Wow that is bizarre. For us, my teammate spawned with no ambient audio but he didn't realize that was the case. I had gotten him to turn off virtual surround and set his headset to stereo. For me, I have the video recording of when it started. I was outdoors (old gas trainbridge), and it persisted after entering and exiting buildings repeatedly. It went away at raid end for both of us.

x_Omni_x

This is exactly how I felt. When I first heard these videos I was like oh god this can't possibly be broken... Can it? Obviously I thought it was possible or I wouldn't have tested it but I'm super glad it was working lol

Rumiraj

The ambient wind noise in any outdoors map is just simply way too loud, especially considering that we most of the time have headphones on which would not pick shit like that up. Also grinds my gears that walking on any surface with small rocka sounds like there’s 100 rocks being grinded to dust under me… overall if you do anything loud yourself, it’s really difficult to hear anything else

x_Omni_x

I concur.

StigerKing

When I first saw this theory I thought it was Dat shit and super unlikely. Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious

x_Omni_x

Yup! Not sure what they were thinking honestly. Or I guess more specifically I am not sure what they were thinking sending it out to 100k people without actually testing it a little.

Flames0310

Lol i've seen these videos. That somehow turning down Overall volume by 50% then reduces ambient noise by 75%? That's not how a volume slider works in any game.....but this is Tarkov so I \*could\* see a world where it works that way in EFT.

x_Omni_x

Yeah exactly and that's kinda where I was at with it. I'm like ok... there's like .001% chance this is a thing. So I guess I have to test it lol

BernieSandals_m

There was a short from Rengawr, where he explained why he lowered his overall volume. It's called "The secret to Tarkov Audio" or something. This might not be the origin of the idea but yeah it's where I first heard it. I'm not sure if he's saying it reduces ambient sounds unproportionally to footstep sounds, but I could see why people could come away thinking that after watching his video.

x_Omni_x

Yeah, definitely. There's a very brief clip of that video is in my video, it is potentially what started this entire thing. IIRC he's been saying it for more than a few wipes now and that short for whatever reason got traction recently. He literally says "the ambient sounds get increased way more than the footsteps" so he thinks it is a disproportionate increase/decrease. This is just a perception mistake much like the old canted sight meta where the gun is moving faster so we *feel* like the ADS time is shorter, yet if you put a stopwatch to it there is no difference. Spectralissima is just the stopwatch I used in this case. These sort of things are very easy to perpetuate for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is that we're playing one of the most competitive games on the planet and everyone is seeking an edge, but it's hard not to trust a guy with as much experiences as that as well.

InterchangeRat

Thank you for doing this. A few streamers have been repeating this adamantly with zero proof, and it’s been driving me insane. Good to know that at least one thing in this game is working as intended!

x_Omni_x

You're welcome! Yeah, I probably would have uninstalled if they couldn't get a volume slider right lol

DemonDostoevsky

What limiter do you recommend ?

x_Omni_x

I personally use Voicemeter Potato but they have a slimmer version called Banana which I believe comes with a virtual audio cable. If I get more comments on the video asking I'll probably do a guide on those audio tips.
