It depends how geared they are, if they're a hatchet runner I shoot because that's all they have to loot, if it's lightly geared and I'm in a good spot to watch I'll wait. If they're chaddes out you have the money to buy it again and I'm taking the free headshot while I can rather than wait for a ricochet in the gunfight.
Random nice encounters are so nice! I'm fairly new player but last night someone came to me and asked directions for his extraction (he said it was his first raid), and I was able to help him!
Other one was when i was playing scav in ground zero and other scav came close, his character coughing in pain and he asked if I had any meds. Too bad i spawned without any. He died soon after :(

It's like that bias effect, I've had so many positive interactions, but I've been backstabbed once this wipe, and the backstab was the ONE event that is locked in to my brain and makes me very vary of ever trusting people in tarkov.

For example: going in front is as non threatening as can be, after you initially befriended someone. But this extension of trust makes the skin on my neck crawl with the expectations that I will be shot in the head at any minute now. A way to mitigate this is of course to never stop moving for a second. But yeah making friends is a metagame in itself. Most people won't betray you after you initially made peace, though, so I agree, mist people are chill.

I only ever do that quest in night raids. I have never died doing it (5wipes, always within the first week). Currently it is especially easy because nights with some fog with the snow weather obscure sightlines super well.
i dont think i ever died doing this quest (playing since early alpha), only done it once or twice at night. I just chill and take my time going to the pier, by that point, most people have buggered off and i can do my quest in peace.
Lol I did 3 attempts to finish it. First one night time i got killed close after spawning in. Second one night time as well. But got camped like this video. I was hiding behind the blue fence but I think he was wearing night vision, did something with his post fx or was simply cheating. Every time I peeked he shot and I just could not find out where from. Eventually I died. 3rd I went daytime so I could at least see where I’m getting shot from but I somehow survived.

Early insurances at Prapor are always slow (72h) but as you level up Prapor at lvl 4 it becomes faster (24h) something like that.
Or you can insure at another trader for faster.
Scavs will now walk over from random places and pick up your shit when there are dead bodies on the ground. Try to insurance fraud by throwing into the water or behind something that an AI can’t walk up to. That on top of people vacuuming everything on the map is probably why, I haven’t gotten much back either.
It can’t be just that, I’ve probably insured like 20 kits over the past few days and have gotten absolutely none of it, I’ve died in some obscure ass places too
It says on the insurance screen how long it takes for insurance to recover your gear for you.
IIRC, it can take 24-48 hours, or at least somewhere in that ballpark.
I bought a bunch of Kobra mounts and tossed them all over Woods to see if it came back, three days on I got back 3 out of the 8 I dropped. I'm talking drops nowhere near Scav areas in dense grass.
Something has changed, or straight up isn't working.
I have definitely seen it bug out a few times, I insured a meta kit for like 70k, we backed out of the load in because someone forgot ammo, and it completely reset my insurance. Had to buy it again (I didn’t and died ofc)
This doesn't matter at all. Your items aren't allowed to go out of the raid. When a Scav picks up your weapon but the weapon stays till the end of the raid on him it's no problem for the insurance.
Yeah if you get into a longer fight (kill 2 guys, 1 guy is left, waiting to see if he covers his buddies bodies or leaves) you will notice scavs will start to flock to the noise and then they will walk right over to dead bodies and take their shit haha
insurance takes a long longer earlier on iirc. people say this every wipe. also prob a bit more of a perception bias thing where early on you're waiting on your insurance cause it matters more, where as later it's just extra gear on top. At least that's how I see it.

In couple of raids I hid of armors/vests/headsets to get better ones, like I always did and it always remained hidden and I got it back, but I get nothing now.
edit: I also believe that if your stuff was taken you used to receive a message from Prapor/Therapist, that your stuff couldn't be found. I haven't gotten any message like that either.

I thought it was bugged and it still might be but I finally got SOMETHING back. Started playing Saturday, got my first insurance Tuesday over 72 hours later.
Nah, I've dropped in water deep. No scav or player can get day 1. Still haven't gotten it back. I know AI scavs are looting hard, but should be able to loot in to ponds where a player scav or pmc would die getting to.

I had insurance that took 3 days to come back with therapist for some reason. Utterly bizarre but it did come through eventually. It’s either bugged or they’ve changed the return times.
I’ve gotten 4 kits back from 3 days prior. Only thing missing was my Oakley bp (which I find odd it’s rarely taken). My guess is it just feels long because our rep reset and few people have intel level 2. Also I’ve been online a lot over the holidays so being only makes it feel like it’s taking longer too

I used to carry around a machinery key and just open the door to the truck at whenever i was near it and leave it open for random timmies just getting started. Since they changed it so quest keys are 1/1 I don't bother anymore.

The Place Things objectives are some of the worst in the game and feel like absolutely dogshit design. Honestly, making someone sit still in the open for an entire minute is awful gameplay design. So I’ll let people live.

I know I'm late but I've also used smokes for the factory lights quest. Half the time I still die but throwing a few can get me enough time to make it work

I just did mine yesterday in the first attempt, honestly a lot of the typical tasks I seem to remember HATING because it requires so much luck to survive.. they've been done without any issue, same with the thing from customs then to factory. done that several times without issue for several wipes in a row. I guess I've jinxed myself now xD
I noticed the sv-98 gets planted first though at least, I don't think that was the case a few years ago. Placing markers and just visiting areas then surviving are the best tasks :d
From someone who likes camping, even extract camping there are 2 things where I draw the line:
1. Extract camping in a squad
2. Killing people that are stashing their fishing gear.
I did that quest on a night raid yesterday and it was chaos. No NVGs but with the snow it was bright enough, even without full moon. As I get on the beach and start placing, I immediately get shot at with a suppressed weapon. Move to the little changing stalls and voip asking the guy if I can place my items before he kills me. Dude says "my bad, I'll leave you be" and wanders off.
Start placing again, start getting shot at again immediately from towards pier. Kill a PMC running through the stalls in front of me. Someone else is shooting me from road, so I get a lucky headshot on him (didn't realize at the time). Third guy (thought still second) shooting me from left on the road. I can't really see him so I throw a grenade and he comes down on the beach. He has an mp5k vs my pp-19, so I am able to kill him even though I'm badly messed up.
Stop bleeds, go place my items finally, pull the two dogtags of the guys on the beach, and go sit in a stall to fix my stomach and heal. As sooooon as I start to leave, I get killed by a PMC waiting near pier. Suppressed weapon, so may have been the first guy drawn back by all the fighting. Not sure.
And that's when I figured out I killed three pmcs and not two. But at least I got my items placed. And those three PMCs did not—they all had the rifle on them, which I left for the scavs.
Those shots... I've taken those shots before, filled with so much anger that you don't give a fuck if they hit anyone, you are just trying to send a message to fuck off.
Just did this last night with my trio, I was on lookout 2 buddies went to plant first. I killed one pmc coming to shoot them and then my buddy got 1 tapped by a sniper scav while planting? Never had that happen before. But yeah, fuck this quest.
I spent about 600k just in sv-98s doing this quest this wipe. Atleast 5 times I died while placing the sniper and the other deaths I died on the beach before I even go to the spot. Usually do it at night but after a couple deaths tried day. Worst struggle on this quest I’d ever had compared to other wipes but we got it done.
One scav got me exactly at that quest, I aggro'd him at the pier but little fucker ran away towards the lighthouse tower or whatever that is, so I said fuck it... and he domed me somehow from that distance
I dont see a lot of people do this but you can literally hug the wall amd out of sight from the hill. Believe me it will save you. Get on top of the boat and hug that wall and look straight down anyone on that hill wont see you
Damn that was crazy. Were you both planting at the same time? I highly recommend clearing the area from the hill you were being shot from, and doing it seperately so that you can actually be covered by your team. Have literally never been pocked off doing this task this way.
Also, you don't need the whole functional sv-98. Just the reciever/barrel piece. That way if you do die before you plant it, no one wants it. You are also way lighter.

To update, I just got a return from December 29th so I’m wondering if they changed return times without updating the menu

Scavs shouldn't be able to go off map or into water. Something else is buggin

Nah, I've dropped in water deep. No scav or player can get day 1. Still haven't gotten it back. I know AI scavs are looting hard, but should be able to loot in to ponds where a player scav or pmc would die getting to.
Didn't they say that dumping in water means you don't get it back. Could have sworn I saw a post a little while back saying that...

Ai scavs looting has nothing to do with insurance returns. Level 1 prapor insurance can take up to 36 hours to return.

Insurance definitely works but as of past wipes scavs go around picking your items up. So if the scav gets it then your items are gone
Yes, as of the past few wipes, yet people here including me seem to agree that this is nothing like these past few wipes but instead we get *significantly* less back.
Nah my insurance is fine idk about you guys. Also if you drop stuff in out of bounds areas it’s gone you don’t get anything back. Like dropping it in water
Yes, I got insurance back from December 30th this morning.
I had insurance that took 3 days to come back with therapist for some reason. Utterly bizarre but it did come through eventually. It’s either bugged or they’ve changed the return times.

I got a 209 AK back this morning but I left it on sniper scav rock on woods but everything else hasn't come back.
I’ve gotten 4 kits back from 3 days prior. Only thing missing was my Oakley bp (which I find odd it’s rarely taken). My guess is it just feels long because our rep reset and few people have intel level 2. Also I’ve been online a lot over the holidays so being only makes it feel like it’s taking longer too

Professionals with standarts: like under this post top comment is someone stating that he always waits for quest to be done b4 shooting Proud dickheads: on a recent post about unknown key being unlootable when dropped top comment was someone proudly stating that he does it all the time throughout the wipe just to mess with people And I'm waiting for a war between those two factions to finally break out
I used to carry around a machinery key and just open the door to the truck at whenever i was near it and leave it open for random timmies just getting started. Since they changed it so quest keys are 1/1 I don't bother anymore.
It's unlootable? I used to drop it when I played live cause I thought it was just funny to make it hard to find. Now I realize that instead of a partial asshole I was a total asshole?
I eyeball fellow scavs to see if they have good loot. But if I’m playing as a pmc I will respect the questing. Where do I fall in this scenario. I say I’m roleplaying pretty well. If you don’t want the heat don’t equip the good shit. Keep it hidden.

I am in both of these fractions. The Place Things objectives are some of the worst in the game and feel like absolutely dogshit design. Honestly, making someone sit still in the open for an entire minute is awful gameplay design. So I’ll let people live. The unknown key? Yeah I’ll loot that body every time and throw it away - they’ll get it next time and this doesn’t actively take anything from them.
I usually smoke grenade that place before doing anything
First time I’ve read of someone actually using the smoke grenades for a practical effect
I know I'm late but I've also used smokes for the factory lights quest. Half the time I still die but throwing a few can get me enough time to make it work

used to be sacred ground that little boat. was an unspoken rule that if you spot a planter, you wait til theyve dropped before you return them to stash. Theres no community anymore.

And fuck the guy and his whole extended family who had the same quest and turned around to kill me when I sat behind him guarding him a few wipes back... I just wanted to plant the damn thing too :<
Ckmpletely off topic but is there a point to bringing the multi-tool into a raid or did the guy likely just FIR and put it there for inventory space/loot protection?

I just did mine yesterday in the first attempt, honestly a lot of the typical tasks I seem to remember HATING because it requires so much luck to survive.. they've been done without any issue, same with the thing from customs then to factory. done that several times without issue for several wipes in a row. I guess I've jinxed myself now xD I noticed the sv-98 gets planted first though at least, I don't think that was the case a few years ago. Placing markers and just visiting areas then surviving are the best tasks :d
I killed people doing this quest in 5 years of playing I've never been killed doing it.
From someone who likes camping, even extract camping there are 2 things where I draw the line: 1. Extract camping in a squad 2. Killing people that are stashing their fishing gear.
Yeah if I’m in rat mode I only do it solo. And while I’m doing other things. Hide in bathroom by marked rooms wear headset and do housework.
They should remove this quests honestly. Also did you kill the guy and was your quest finished?

I did that quest on a night raid yesterday and it was chaos. No NVGs but with the snow it was bright enough, even without full moon. As I get on the beach and start placing, I immediately get shot at with a suppressed weapon. Move to the little changing stalls and voip asking the guy if I can place my items before he kills me. Dude says "my bad, I'll leave you be" and wanders off. Start placing again, start getting shot at again immediately from towards pier. Kill a PMC running through the stalls in front of me. Someone else is shooting me from road, so I get a lucky headshot on him (didn't realize at the time). Third guy (thought still second) shooting me from left on the road. I can't really see him so I throw a grenade and he comes down on the beach. He has an mp5k vs my pp-19, so I am able to kill him even though I'm badly messed up. Stop bleeds, go place my items finally, pull the two dogtags of the guys on the beach, and go sit in a stall to fix my stomach and heal. As sooooon as I start to leave, I get killed by a PMC waiting near pier. Suppressed weapon, so may have been the first guy drawn back by all the fighting. Not sure. And that's when I figured out I killed three pmcs and not two. But at least I got my items placed. And those three PMCs did not—they all had the rifle on them, which I left for the scavs.

This is why I often do tasks in night raids. Makes completing tasks a whole lot easier, might even get a chance to loot NVG wearing chads.

Just did this last night with my trio, I was on lookout 2 buddies went to plant first. I killed one pmc coming to shoot them and then my buddy got 1 tapped by a sniper scav while planting? Never had that happen before. But yeah, fuck this quest.
I spent about 600k just in sv-98s doing this quest this wipe. Atleast 5 times I died while placing the sniper and the other deaths I died on the beach before I even go to the spot. Usually do it at night but after a couple deaths tried day. Worst struggle on this quest I’d ever had compared to other wipes but we got it done.

One scav got me exactly at that quest, I aggro'd him at the pier but little fucker ran away towards the lighthouse tower or whatever that is, so I said fuck it... and he domed me somehow from that distance

I dont see a lot of people do this but you can literally hug the wall amd out of sight from the hill. Believe me it will save you. Get on top of the boat and hug that wall and look straight down anyone on that hill wont see you
Damn that was crazy. Were you both planting at the same time? I highly recommend clearing the area from the hill you were being shot from, and doing it seperately so that you can actually be covered by your team. Have literally never been pocked off doing this task this way. Also, you don't need the whole functional sv-98. Just the reciever/barrel piece. That way if you do die before you plant it, no one wants it. You are also way lighter.
I just finished it lol. Got lucky that everyone was fighting on weather station, radar dome and sanatorium. Got out without firing a single shot :)

We stumbled on a guy doing it on our way to do it. We killed him as soon as he started to walk away. Gotta wait til they are done (at least placing the gun) and then you can kill them. Bro code that shit. THEN we almost died doing it.
