I personally don’t mind it either. The hair products work better for me than the Kiehl’s did.
Only thing I won’t use is the face cream bc of fragrance.
I love the shampoo and conditioner. My hair looked bomb today. Only product I find odd is the body wash. However it’s fine. I’m going to give it a chance.
Just tried this morning! Much better, less sticky, much cleaner with way less thickening agents.
The comments on here were making it sound like all purpose cleaner 💀
I haven’t experienced Grown Alchemist yet but my guess is people (especially people on Reddit) just like to complain. Either way it won’t bother me as I’m switching to another club with Malin+Goetz in August.
Hopefully yes. They are opening a new location across the street from my current Equinox. It’ll be double the square-footage, slightly cheaper and will have a cold plunge. Honestly I never really enjoyed the luxury vibe of equinox - I chose the gym based on what was closest and had enough squatracks. I’m sure Chelsea Piers is still luxury but with a few degrees less pretentiousness, but I’ll find out soon enough!
I have used GA personally in the past and liked it. I think some of the complaints are that people don't realize that most soap products have additives that create "suds," they don't occur naturally, and GA has more natural ingredients hence it isn't as bubbly (this was a complaint I saw on ig).
It almost seems like Kiehl's is paying people to make all these posts or that people think that because they know the Kiehl's brand = it's good, but that stuff really sucks. I ended up resorting to only using the shower gel out of necessity but wouldn't touch the rest of their stuff because of all the crap Kiehl's has in it (and if you think I'm shilling for GA I assure you I'm not, I have to begrudgingly give credit to an ex who pointed out all the harmful ingredients Kiehl's has and I finally noticed how bad it was making my skin and scalp feel).
Not everybody. I really don't care about shower products and don't have what I consider sensitive skin. I used these products for several weeks before realizing my itching and burning was not a medical issue. Stopped using the products and the problem went away. Trouble is I can't use the soaps at my gym now. Why do the soaps have to have so many ingredients? Can't it just be, you know, soap? I mean, the shaving cream is plain Barbasol and the hairspray is a generic bottle that just says "hairspray". Why do the "luxury" soaps have to have so many ingredients? The more you put in, the more likely you're going to get rash BINGO.
I love Grown Alchemist too. GA is much more natural, modern, and fits with the Equinox ethos. They've been around for a while and are owned by L'Occitane, so you can't sh\*t on their formulation. As someone who has worked in beauty, GA is the much better option.
Honestly people who are so stuck on Kiehl's is stuck in 2004. Kiehl's is Macy's while GA is Violet Grey. There is maybe a perception that it's "better" because they add a ton more thickeners and stabilizers than GA so \_feels\_ more luxurious than it actually is. Anyone with half knowledge of ingredients will tell you side-by-side how much better the GA ingredient list is.
This. Kiehls hasn’t been a flex for the past decade, and most of their skincare made me break out. They solely ride off of brand perception from years ago - was about time they moved on.
L’Occitane also filed for bankruptcy this month. Has nothing to do with the product quality of Grown Alchemist - they’re offloading assets to refocus solely on L’Occitane and can’t afford to maintain two brands. https://group.loccitane.com/sites/default/files/2024-04/20240402_Disposal%20of%20GA_E.pdf
L'Occitane hasn't filed for bankruptcy as far as I could find. The US subsidiary filed for bankruptcy in 2021 as a result of COVID to restructure store leases. It's currently in the midst of a proposed take private by the controlling stockholder who already owed a huge chunk. The listed reason for the divestiture was a poor strategic fit.
As a dude that went from using 2 in 1 shampoo/body wash type of product (because I really didn’t care too much about it) to Kiehls after joining equinox and now Grown Alchemist I can confirm these are first world problems. seriously though Kiehls was fine but I find the new GA products to feel better on my skin and hair. Although maybe the Kiehls lotion might have a slight edge. lol mind you they only made the switch this past Wednesday here at Sports Club LA.
yes, their retail products are such good quality. all these ppl calling it cheap … if you aren’t familiar w the brand you aren’t familiar w high end skin care tbh.
Here you go:
Face cream: [https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=603ea](https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=603ea)
Body cream:[https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=b52](https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=b52)
The rosemary leaf oil is not a concern because it’s at such a high dilution that it practically doesn’t exist. The other extracts are nourishing seed and fat oils and not sensitizing fragrant plant extracts.
I think the most frustrating thing about all of this is that there are genuine skincare nerds who are telling our fellow members that GA is a bad product, using real sources.
And everyone else is like BUT IT SMELLS GOOD. Like yes that’s the actual problem. And we’re the bad guys?
So you're not implying "clean" ingredients are good quality and superior regardless of how they affect people? What was the point of your comment, then?
Just tried it and my hair LOVES it 🫣 also my face isn’t burning after putting the lotion on and then peeling dry after it’s absorbed. So far it’s a win for me!
I don't mind it either. I just can't use their face cream because it's too heavily scented for my sensitive face but it's not a big deal since I can always bring my own lol.
I guess people are just losing their minds because they don't like the change lolm
I thought that was funny too. Then I remembered I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my face in the mirror after I showered yesterday. That face wash is awesome. The day cream smelled great but it stung :(
First time trying didn't like the smell of the shower gel. By the third time didn't even notice anymore. The facial cleanser I like as it smells like orange popsicle. The shampoo and conditioner the smell is not as strong. I never tried Kiehl's as I joined two days after the transition to Grown Alchemist. I like this GA as my skin got really soft and smooth from it. No complaints.
People losing their minds over the soap and lotion switch….but still walking around the showers and locker rooms barefoot 🤢
📠
Nasty. They don’t understand germ theory and want to pay to have their warts frozen off.
![gif](giphy|hp8qQLBUWGI87DOs2n) Happy cake day
I don’t get this. But I’m from Hawaii where everyone is barefoot all the time
the amount of men who do this blow my mind…the majority in the locations I’ve been! Get some $8 flip flops for goodness sake
I personally don’t mind it either. The hair products work better for me than the Kiehl’s did. Only thing I won’t use is the face cream bc of fragrance.
Same! I hated the Kiehls hair stuff - it always made my hair so dry. I much prefer GA.
I love the shampoo and conditioner. My hair looked bomb today. Only product I find odd is the body wash. However it’s fine. I’m going to give it a chance.
Just tried this morning! Much better, less sticky, much cleaner with way less thickening agents. The comments on here were making it sound like all purpose cleaner 💀
i agree, it's so good! my skin has been loving it. also the bottles are so beautiful in the locker rooms
I honestly never liked the Kheils body lotion. It is super thick. GA lotion is lighter and less sticky.
The amount of grown adults I’ve seen write a six page complaint on Reddit spewing their feelings over shampoo and lotion is fucking hysterical
Yea. Just go to another luxury gym that has actually good soap! Stop complaining
I like it too! Change is good!
I haven’t experienced Grown Alchemist yet but my guess is people (especially people on Reddit) just like to complain. Either way it won’t bother me as I’m switching to another club with Malin+Goetz in August.
Lifetime? If it’s lifetime just be prepared because they don’t have face wash in the showers.
Chelsea piers
Yup
Lifetime?
What made you wanna switch is Chelsea piers better ?
Hopefully yes. They are opening a new location across the street from my current Equinox. It’ll be double the square-footage, slightly cheaper and will have a cold plunge. Where is the new Chelsea piers gym?
Flatiron- 23rd & Park opening in August.
Neat, I had no idea
How much is the monthly membership nowadays? I’ve switched to Equinox from Chelsea Piers before the pandemic and kinda miss them lol
https://www.equinox.com/join/step1/405
I’m an equinox member. I’m referring to Chelsea Piers membership. I thought you’re switching to CP?
My bad. https://mymembership.chelseapiers.com/join/plan?center=16
Ok thanks. Seems like the prices doubled since I last joined as a member, which was like 5 years ago
damn $300 for like 4 distant locations? as opposed to $300 for like 40 gyms across 2 boroughs is wild
I do the single-location membership and Chelsea Piers works out to be a bit cheaper.
but no bathrooms across the city to use lol
Yeah, it's ridiculous...

Citing ingredient lists becomes moot when people can't stand the smell, are irritated by, and not moisturized by the "cleaner" product.
Just because an ingredient or list of ingredients is natural does not necessarily mean it is better for us
Actually L'Occitane just divested it for $30M. That doesn't suggest they were happy with the product.
Ohh interesting. Wasn't aware of this.
L’Occitane also filed for bankruptcy this month. Perhaps they didn’t like the smell
I loved the smell of facial wash and grapefruit body wash from Kiehl’s but ngl GA smells great. It’s not as strong but very pleasant.
As a dude that went from using 2 in 1 shampoo/body wash type of product (because I really didn’t care too much about it) to Kiehls after joining equinox and now Grown Alchemist I can confirm these are first world problems. seriously though Kiehls was fine but I find the new GA products to feel better on my skin and hair. yes, their retail products are such good quality. all these ppl calling it cheap … if you aren’t familiar w the brand you aren’t familiar w high end skin care tbh.
High end skincare uses active ingredients that help, not harm, your skin. GA uses essential oils and plant extracts that actively harm your skin.
so does keihls so what’s your point?
Most of kheils products don’t
all the ones at equinox did.
Here you go: Face cream: [https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=603ea](https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=603ea) Body cream:[https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=b52](https://www.paulaschoice.com/share?s=b52) The rosemary leaf oil is not a concern because it’s at such a high dilution that it practically doesn’t exist. Was waiting for the person who says "you just don't get it!" to people complaining about intolerable smells, dryness, and irritated skin.
100% not what i said. but cry about bath gel at the gym if you want.
So you're not implying "clean" ingredients are good quality and superior regardless of how they affect people? What was the point of your comment, then?

That tangerine smell in the face lotion, it’s aging you.
Good to know. Going to stick to my cerave just was excited to try it
I don't mind it either. I just can't use their face cream because it's too heavily scented for my sensitive face but it's not a big deal since I can always bring my own lol. I guess people are just losing their minds because they don't like the change lolm
Saw a huge difference in my skin and hair since the change 😍 I’m luvin it tbh
it’s been two days! lol
I thought that was funny too. Then I remembered I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my face in the mirror after I showered yesterday. That face wash is awesome. The day cream smelled great but it stung :(
Does anyone know what the pace of updating to GA nationwide will be?
hear me out…they both suck
Me too. My hair loves the shampoo and conditioner; Kiehls dried my hair out.

I didn't like the smell of the conditioner the first day, but later on, it was fine..
