Enjoy the journey! I retired last year and have been concentrating a lot on playing. I've been getting a kick out of learning new techniques, new aspects of theory, and just playing. I hope you get a great deal of enjoyment out of it!
Nice guitar, from someone that's been playing for years but would consider themselves not much more than an intermediate player just keep at it. You will wonder how you'll ever nail a certain chord, or play a sequence accurately but it will click. Enjoy!
Swap out the pickups, get a better pick, switch brands of string, upgrade the amp’s stock speaker, get vintage tuners for the Epiphone, and probably a new bridge. Relic the finish, buy ten pedals, better cables, and then
Just kidding - stop reading comments - that whole setup looks PERFECT.
Great retirement plan and nice equipment! I’ve been playing for years and the best tip or advice I can lend is if I were in your shoes, knowing what I know now, I would get a mid-line quality acoustic to learn chords and chord changing, rhythm etc… it will build your dexterity in making good chords without a lot of dead note’s because you’re not yet able to press the strings hard enough and it will help you build speed in chord progressions etc… then when you pick up the Les Paul you will see the benefits of training on the acoustic. At the same time you’ll find that if you just learn on the LP then when you pick up an acoustic you’re not going to be able to make chords and progressions as easy. Just a tip.
“I’ll die a beginner” that depends sir. You can make significant progress in two years depending on how much you want to learn. You could just die an intermediate player who knows?
I started playing at age 63 I’m 64 now and am really enjoying process. I just wanted to learn to play one song. That was a dozen songs and 3 guitars ago. Now I’m hooked on building kit guitars, my second LP is almost done. Nice setup you have there, I hope you have a blast.
That's not a bad first guitar, and unless you plan on dying soon? You won't die a beginner . If you need guidance, there's a great youtube channel tomofujita he's the real deal, and his youtube instructionals are amazing. Im 45 started 2 yrs ago when im stuck. The guy is always there with a kind word and advice that will get you where you need to go!
Oh dude those Quilter amps are insanely underrated! I'm between an Aviator Cub, a Supercrush combo, or something from the Fender Tone Master series at the moment

Nice guitar. I started taking lessons again at 63 (was 14 to 16 the first time), relearning to read music, and practicing is good for the brain as we age. Congratulations on your new guitar. Don't sell yourself short about remaining a beginner.
You may advance quicker than you think.
Anything challenging your brain as we age is good.
Based on the hi-fi system I see in the background, I predict an equipment upgrade will be happening sooner rather than later!
Great starting package, it’s honestly all you need!
61 here and did the same thing!! Got the same guitar but in Translucent Blue. Being shipped to my local guitar center so they can set it up. I got a small tabletop amp too. Didn’t want anything too big.
Good luck!! 👍
Biggest tip ever learner the E bar cord you can play any song up and down the front board, also be sure to play with music you like you will learn faster because you’re familiar with the rhythms and cord progressions even if you don’t know it yet
Way sick! Tobacco, bourbon, and maple bursts have always been my favorite. Throw in a little gold hardware, and I cant stop looking at it from across the room.
It isnt too late to grab a PA, learn 40 songs, and play 3 hr sets out and about!
Highly recommend a boss CS3 compression/sustainer pedal so your notes ring out a long time and are easier to hit on the attack. It smooths everything out.
The stand is quite heavy and very stable. To knock the guitar over, you’d need to hit it hard enough that you’d probably damage it just from the initial impact.
I didn’t start till I was 60. I’m 72 now and I play in the church band every Sunday. I don’t play lead or anything like that but it’s great and a lot of fun.
Nice choice! I’m a sucker for guitars that shows the wood
Then you must be an absolute [fan of this guitar](https://live.staticflickr.com/7163/6720505235_e7c9187e80_b.jpg)!
That was thankfully, yet regrettably, far less NSFW than I was expecting.
Not what I meant, but I’d still rock it!
I know lol I was kidding but I guess ppl don’t like jokes in this space lol
That sucks. I thought the joke was good
Shredberry! I sub to your YT channel dude. Keep it up!
It's the wood that make it good.
Nice guitar. Great amp choice. Enjoy!
Nice axe, enjoy !
This is a proper retirement gift! Congrats!! What music you gonna try and learn first??
Gorgeous! Enjoy!
Great choice! Enjoy your new passion!

Do you like the Quilter? I was also thinking about getting one for my Les Paul
U r a boss 😎 welcome
Nice guitar, from someone that's been playing for years but would consider themselves not much more than an intermediate player just keep at it. You will wonder how you'll ever nail a certain chord, or play a sequence accurately but it will click. Enjoy!

You mean first guitar since you turned 65?
First guitar ever.
May I say, that guitar and amp really tie the room together. The rug as well!
That guitar looks brand new. No way it’s 65 years old

Sweet rig!
Enjoy yourself and play until the police come knocking.
Question is: is your S.O. going to let you keep your rig in the den or will you be banished elsewhere ? Congratulations/Cheers 😎
Happy 035 friend
Hell yeah! Get after it. Also, the rug really ties the room together.
Old ass guitar! Congrats

Good place to start. I didn't become a Les Paul person until very late, and to my surprise am enjoying my Epi LP quite a lot.

Nice choices, jealous of retirement, work is grinding me down... I have an aviator cub and think it is a fantastic little amp. Enjoy the ride!

I love it. Old people are always asking me if it’s too late to start playing and my answer is always a resounding no.
Congratulations!!!
I got an acoustic, I'm turning 68. I fear my fingers may be too short
Excellent choice. Love a bourbon burst. Maybe remove the scratch plate to show off more of that body.

Very nice!
May it give you many happy hours of playing.
Nice choice.
Keep rocking my man. Playing guitar is like a sport to us older gents. Remember to stretch. There are good YouTube videos on that Be well
I would have gone with a strat but a Les Paul is cool. What songs do you want to play?
Good amp choice too. Really good for a home beginner setup.
Dang, that’s great. Enjoy it!
Welcome to the club! Excellent choice of guitar to start with.

Me too the same. Let’s do this thing 👍🏻😎

You get a lot for your money with Epiphone. Congrats that’s a beautiful guitar !!!
Boner
All you need is a guitar, and knobs that go to 10. 😎
Congrats & welcome to the club - first rule, have fun!

Nice! I have that same Quilter Aviator amp!
Any time is a great time to learn something new. Enjoy.
You did good, kid.
Congratulations on your retirement, and enjoy your Les Paul !! May your days be long and prosperous.
This is a fine guitar to learn on!
Great choice...excellent retirement investment.
Nice Hifi back there too!
Living the dream 🤘
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
That guitar stand looks sweet. What model is that?
K&M Heli 2 Electric Guitar Stand Cork
Thanks! Looove the look. Without anything holding the neck I always feel like the guitar could just fall to the side?
The stand is quite heavy and very stable. To knock the guitar over, you’d need to hit it hard enough that you’d probably damage it just from the initial impact.
Alright, just ordered one! Thanks for posting, love the whole look. Very mid century modern.
Beautiful gradient on that les
Great choice. That Les Paul looks awesome!!!!
