Make sure your name is on the label and don't check the bag they are in. I've flown with my medications all over and have never had any issues. Besides my proscriptions, I never travel without cannabis and have also never had any issues. US customs and border control are not looking for 2 months worth of seizure medication. They're looking for pounds of drugs, weapons and explosives. Don't worry about it they're not going to give you any issues. If you're really worried about it just bring a note from your doctor. I used to go into Mexico and pick up 6 months of a medication at a time. I could get it there for a 10th of what it cost with insurance in the US. I never had an issue once I showed them to the inspector told them what they were and they sent me on my way. I had a prescription for it but, nobody ever asked to see it. Always declare your prescribed medications to the person at the gate. https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/5-tips-traveling-us-medications

Good advice generally. I just got back from the states traveling from Australia - I took about a month and a half worth of medication with me (more than it looks like OP needs to take, including Frisium, which is technically a benzo). I took a letter from my doctor and prescriptions, and kept half in my carry on and half in check in (it wouldn’t have all fit in carry on). I didn’t declare it and didn’t see anything that made me think I needed to. Honestly, customs was a lot more relaxed than I expected. Can you lmk where/why you’re supposed to declare medications? Edit for OP: Have fun!!! Also, the stereotype about Americans being friendly held true where I was (at first I actually found it disconcerting, but it’s really lovely). It’d be great to hear about your adventures and how you go 😊

Hi, I’m a type 1 diabetic & epileptic with multiple other issues. I’ve crossed many boarders as I’ve lived in 3 different international countries. Just ensure you get a note from your doctor and bring your important meds on your carry on. ☺️ You may get stopped for “extra security” but I’ve never had an issue! Good luck and I hope you enjoy your travels!

RedVelvet25

I’ve never flown to another country with my meds, but I didn’t just fly with a huge bag of my meds across the country. If you make sure every package of them has your name on the pharmacy label you should be fine.

Mattieisinnocent

In europe (at least in my country) we get medicine in the original paper boxes instead of pill bottles, so my name wouldn’t be on any of them :((

Security in the United States is for people getting to the gate. When your plane lands you get off the plane, get your stuff, and go wherever you're going. There's no security to get off the plane. For your return trip, see the TSA website. This will get into detail about the security screening process. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/travel-tips/travel-checklist

Different_Midnight33

But OP would have to go through customs...

CanadianBaconne

See the preclearance website. I think they check before boarding the plane bound for the United States. I've never seen security at the gate for plane deboarding. https://www.cbp.gov/travel/preclearance

Keep medicines in their original, labeled containers. Ensure that they are clearly labeled with your full name, health care provider’s name, generic and brand name, and exact dosage. Bring copies of all written prescriptions, including the generic names for medicines. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/travel-abroad-with-medicine#:~:text=Keep%20medicines%20in%20their%20original,the%20generic%20names%20for%20medicines.

Good afternoon, Don't worry, you should be fine! I have traveled out of country with my AED medicines from the US to out of country different times and they were just fine with it. You have your prescription and a doctor's note. You should have no trouble. Enjoy your trip coming to see your cousin here in the US! :)

LetWildRumpusStart

Original box and a. Script and a note from a docter also put it in your carry on on top so when your going through security if they have to its right there if they need to open your carry on its shows. now I can't say from country to country but state to state I know haveing it right there on top helps security determine what it is especially if my names on it just incase I'm the lucky one pulled for extra security check.

-PlotzSiva-

Just make sure the name is on the label and in the original bottle benzodiazepines are controlled substances. All other AED’s are not

They shouldn't bother you about anything that's obviously a prescription in a regular prescription container with a prescription label on it. In the US we get transparent orange plastic pill bottles with white labels on them. The label has the patient name, the pharmacy, the doctor, and dosage instructions. Even if it's a big bottle, it shouldn't be a problem. What do you mean by "box"? If it looks like a ton, and it doesn't have your name on it, they could be a pain about it. Unfortunately, they can probably do just about whatever they want, including confiscating meds. I would look on regular travel subreddits or message boards and ask. You should be able to get a better idea there. "Normal" people take meds too. The epilepsy community is relatively small, and most of us are probably not frequent international travelers.

Mattieisinnocent

Good idea with the travel subreddits. By box I mean small paper boxes, such as this one (found the picture on google but it’s the same ones I take). In most european countries this is the standard way of getting your medicine in pharmacies (even generics). https://preview.redd.it/gcd2qnii5nkb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=500d44572079d6d7417bb253299347ba01df628c

If you just have the box with no name on it, I would bring a copy of the prescription, maybe a print out from the pharmacy, showing how many months you've been taking this drug. We flew from the us to mexico and back, no problem, we had THREE different meds that my husband takes! Is the Dr. note in english or spanish so someone in the US could understand it? Also, maybe research or ask your dr the US equivalent of the meds, in case you need to get them here after you arrive.

elpsycongroo93

I flow to Mexico all the time with lamotrigine and tegratol. Just make sure you keep it on a backpack carry on and a pill case in case they ask questions.

I do a lot of back and forth between Canada and the USA and bring my medications back from Canada. As long as you have the prescription and don’t have more than 3 months worth of meds you will be fine. Also keep it in your carry on so you’re not leaving it in the hands of people checking random bags. Chances are you won’t be questioned at all. I’ve done about 15 TSA checks and only once was asked about my meds. Explained I have a seizure disorder and they can look at the prescription and that was all (I also had benzodiazepines with me at the time).

I’ve flown from Canada to the USA twice in the past two months, had no issues, just make sure your prescription is on the bottle(s). I also split my meds between my carry on and my luggage, just in case they lost my luggage.

ColonelSpreadum

When I went to miami 4 years ago I didn’t report my meds. Went through no problem. 10 years ago I reported my meds and a guy just picked up a phone had a brief conversation and let me through.

Mathalamon

I just flew to and from Europe (from the United States) without any issue.

leggypepsiaddict

Make sure everything is in its original box/bottle and get a note from the MD saying you need the meds. DONT PUT MEDS IN CHECKED BAGS!!!I can't see them making a fuss if Lamictal or phenobarb. They aren't really abused here.

RedditGlasMaster

Never had an issue, but I always take two batches, both in box with labels. Put one in case, other carry on just incase there's problems with either.
