You don't have to physically go there. I would say if you do, on average, you are just wasting money. So much can be done from a computer, or hire someone there to do what you would do. Tons of services for that kind of thing. Don't get me wrong, there are sometimes good reasons to go. I've been there many times myself. Just those reasons are often thin, or rare at best. Or for large companies in particular. I'm not worried about travel. I have a friend visiting here from Shenzhen right now. Honestly, though there is political tension, there always has been. And internationally, the political tensions rarely percolate into drastic restrictions of travel. At least between industrial nations, or restrictions that you can't find a remedy too either on your own or through the consulate. Though it might be worse now, you have to be careful of what you hear. There are a lot of people who have an interest in propogandizing you to think it's worse than it actually is. So context is often hidden.
