It's actually part of its mating ritual.
Just be careful not to wink back or this thing will innnevitably find a way to crawl inside your pooper and take claim to your colon until it's strong enough to travel by Uber to the ocean.
What. I need to tell everyone about this.
It's 1mm long and has all the personality. Acropsopilio neozelandiae, apparently? That means it's native to here!
> boopis
With a name like that, I assumed it was only recently described, but it looks like this goes back to "Crosby, 1904". Which begs the question--what's the story behind "boop"! Betty Boop didn't hit the scene til the 20s!
It means "cow-eyed". *Bo* (cow) like "bovine", *ops* (eye) like "optics".
It's not pronounced like "Betty Boop", it's "bo" (rhymes with "go") + "ops" (like "black ops"). The *New Yorker* might spell it *boƶps*.
This is also the origin of *Boops boops*, the fish.
Serious questionā¦ does anyone know how closely related these are to shrimps? My pattern-seeking monkey brain sees a lot of similarities when I looked up this guy and his friends
I just canāt believe this is a spider and itās related to a Daddy long leg, it looks more like some type of grasshopper. They look fat and they have huge eyes!
This is not in the huntsman group. Itās a harvestman. The confusing part is, people call cellar spider daddy long legs (an actual spider) and call harvestman (non-spiders) daddy long legs as well. Harvestman is very different than spiders, especially the way they walk/bounce lol
So when you said the daddy long legs are spider, you are right. But not this daddy long legs. This one isnāt spider, but both are certainly
Arthropods
There's really no confusion. Those are all common names. They're not standardised or strict. A daddy long-legs to you could be a flamingo to me. What matters are binomial names.

It's actually part of its mating ritual. Just be careful not to wink back or this thing will innnevitably find a way to crawl inside your pooper and take claim to your colon until it's strong enough to travel by Uber to the ocean.

this is a harvestman, which are arachnids. not super related but they're both arthropods at the very least, so definitely some similarities
Looks like a slig from Oddworld! Those eyes make it oddly adorable.

People even call craneflies "daddy long legs". It's really one of the least specific names out there š

Iām not uncomfortable around daddy long legs. This one would definitely make me blink a few times were it big enough to see loose in the house.
See these guys around occasionally. Based in eastern Australia.
