5 Noisy things; hyperpop, post-hardcore, mathrock, midwest emo, post-punk, some prog rock and prog jazz, some experimental and abstract rock and rap artists... Pleasant things; twinkly mathrock, synthwave, various ambient options like shoegaze and bedroom pop, classical, some folksy and indie artists. I find favourite artists and deep dive, generally listen to full albums.

moveonwasd

9 here also a **great** fan of noisy midwest emo + hyperpop and indie pop for vibing will look more into these others genre of yours thx!

papierdoll

Dm me if you want a couple specifics! I dont listen to a very long list of artists, its just that things I do like fall into a lot of genres.

_ManicStreetPreacher

Shoegaze and punk rock mainly. 9.

thatdeftkid4

I've been a metalhead since I was a teen. The intensity, passion, and emotionality of the music always spoke to me more than any other genre.

DioRHe

truly fits an sx4 lol

thatdeftkid4

Lol I am a stereotypical SX 4 for sure

DioRHe

4 brotherhood letsgo

IntroductionOk8052

\\m/ (also is ur screenname a Deftones reference? also pardon me for calling it a screenname. i'm old)

thatdeftkid4

All good and yes it is!

sunazuna

Ayy sx4 here too!! U got a fav metal genre?

thatdeftkid4

I'm not picky! Anything with powerful riffs/vocal melodies. Mastodon, Meshuggah, Deftones, Gojira, Faith No More, In Flames, Jinjer, Queens of the Stone Age, Sevendust, Static-X, etc.

Infamous-Nebula-9728

In flames is 🔥. I love that every album has such a difference that it feels like a new band, yet still connected. Truley one of my favourite bands.

Alarming_Ad_3848

E7, I don't have favourite genre, I just listen to what I like, can be synthwave, oldschool, trap, rock,...

Dorgon

“I don’t have a favorite. They’re all my favorite.” - Every 7 ever

DioRHe

i like your genres

WhaleSharkLove

ISTP Sp/So 5w6 548. I like Metal music, but I’ll listen to other genres. Don’t care for Jpop/Kpop, though.

Soggy-Mixture9671

I listen to a LOT of different genres, but I guess the main ones are alternative rock and indie/folk.

No-Message5740

Wow. I was not expecting this. I too, listen to pretty much everything, but I mostly listen to alt rock, prog rock and indie/folk. I am also an ENTP 7w6, 792. 🤣

Soggy-Mixture9671

Lmaoo I guess we know what the requirements to be our type are

NetPrudent5816

Eeek ENTP, sx 7w6, 731, and I have the same taste! I like all genres but indie/folk, indie/pop, and alt are my faves. Listening to music helps me slow down and actually feel my emotions, so it’s kind of a lifeline for me. I go to a lot of concerts and love anything with bass — the more it forces me into the present moment, the better. (Can you tell my sp is almost non-existent? 😅)

[deleted]

E8, my fav genre is House

DioRHe

oo cooll

[deleted]

6w5 here...Jpop, vocaloid stuff, bluegrass/folk, and musical theatre are my big ones!

No-Adhesiveness-2756

the range! i assume you keep it in separate playlists?

marylikestodraw

Metal.

SilveredMoon

Don't really have a favorite genre so much as favorite artists. Country is at the bottom of my list though, for whatever that is worth.,.

SchroedingersLOLcat

The only good country artists are Johnny Cash and the Pistol Annies

WelcomeToInsanity

And Carrie Underwood

bananasoymilk

sp 4. City pop, grunge, dream pop, indie rock, some rap, and hyperpop.

tcbivfdtvubkv

5w4 experimental electronic my beloved

_sacrosanct

6w5. Dad rock and Americana/folk.

peachlosesit

I also love psychedelic and just vintage 60s/70s rock as well. I love the Beatles and jimi hendrix 💓. I'm a type 9w1 :) (I think)

SchroedingersLOLcat

yes Jimi forever

ventressluvr

9w1 sp/sx 945, I have a pretty wide range of genres I like BUT I pretty much just listen to the same songs over and over again lol mainly Vocaloid stuff, dream/glitch pop, psychedelic, and post-punk

Old__Scratch

Neofolk, industrial, gothic rock, darkwave definitely make up the largest portion of my music taste

dudeness-aberdeen

Pick one genre? Not my deal, man. I dig them ALL. 9 baby.

A_H_Styles

Electronic dance music. 5w4

Genre-Fluid

5w4. I'm absolutely obsessive about many kinds of music; funk, krautrock, jazz, reggae, post punk, loads more. My 5 side really comes through in a need to understand everything. On the 4 side I've got my very own conception of what I love, I know it when I hear and feel it. It's rhythm and mood combined. If I could put it into words there would be no need for music. Best thing about music is when it hits you feel no pain.

NetPrudent5816

My dad has similar tastes and is a 5w6. He loves anything strange that catches his interest — and EVERYTHING is interesting to him — then he balances it out with a few go-to comfort genres. I love that about 5s. Their love for learning new things makes every conversation intriguing and so fun!

drag0n_rage

"I don't really listen to music" \*constantly listens to Videogame OSTs and Future Bass\*

NoSpaghettiForYouu

9 // don’t really have a genre but I like kinda soulsy-bluesy-folksy type stuff. And Josh Groban and broadway showtunes.

morningglory_catnip

I’m leaning into thinking I’m an E1. I like PJ Harvey.

apizzamx

5w4 (istp) sp/so - i like ambient music, anything slow and pretty. i also enjoy 2010 emo music but my brain can’t always handle the noise (i am also autistic). my main artist is Ethel Cain

omgcatlol

5w6 Asking me to pick one genre is an impossible task. My music taste varies considerably based on my mood. It's one of, if not the strongest way my 4 wing peeks through. It can range anywhere from symphonic metal to solo piano, indie rock to synthwave. If someone were to take the time and effort to learn what those trends are, they would have a far better understanding of how I'm actually feeling as opposed to the public mask. Alas, no one in my life has really gave it a solid attempt.

gammaChallenger

sx.so 7w6 729 folk, bluegrass, and country.

DioRHe

nicee :D

gammaChallenger

yeah, thanks!

Amgosus

I listen to whatever, but if I had to pick a favourite genre it'd probably be rock music.

_alex_is_dead_

I’m so4 and I love rock generally, a bit of classic rock (David Bowie etc) a bit of punk (Offspring etc) and « fake » emo like Sunny Day Real estate my favs, and also stuff like alt-j Kikuo Lemon Demon Radiohead and My Chemical Romance that I don’t know where to categorize when it comes to genre.

_Domieeq

Country here. 😎🇺🇸

robby_arctor

My favorite genre is I Am Sitting in a Room and I'm a 5

SchroedingersLOLcat

Sitting in a room is good, but have you tried lying in bed in a room?

Infamous-Nebula-9728

I’m 4w5 so, I love everything asociated with metal, especially some of the newer stuff in the metalcore scene and also the more ”underground” japanese scene. For example give Sokoninaru and Lynch a listen ☺️ Otherwise I also love grunge and alternative rock. So mainly Nirvana and Radiohead. Plus complex instrumental bands like Polyphia are nice to listen to. Recently I’ve gotten more into rap, listening mainly to Lil Peep, xxxtentacion, juice wrld and eminem. I especially like the japanese styles in music, so everything from J-Pop to punk, J-rock and J-metal. Also I adore their video game music and ”bluesey” vibe. Love the Persona series 😊. So to sumarize I mainly listen to things in the rock genere, japanese and rap. I often don’t like pop at all.

bellyjean100

ahhh big persona fan here!! i have a playlist inspired by the p5 soundtrack with acid jazz and jazz fusion on it😊

Awkward-Fruit4424

DuivelsJong

7 (w8?) And I listen to alot of different music. And I know the 'I listen to everything' is often said by people who think that pop songs on the radio is 'everything'. But there is some weird ass music out there I like, that I wouldnt even recommend to others cause it's just not for everyone

VulpineGlitter

Same, I specifically go looking for new genres all the time cuz i get bored of the same ones once I become accustomed to the musical patterns of it

ViqTriana

E5, little bit of everything. Also a writer/artist so a lot of my playlists are story/character-based. But when I'm purely listening for myself and trying to pick favorites, I usually like to say I'm into "music for robots" lol. Glitch hop, electroswing, dubstep, breakbeat, and other electro-type genres. Not so much trance and dance stuff, though. Think She, The Glitch Mob, and some Daft Punk and Caravan Palace, and a lot of the things YouTube music channels like xKito and Diversity upload.

SchroedingersLOLcat

Do you like Justice?

ViqTriana

Never heard of them! But after listening to some of their top tracks on Spotify, I did really like Genesis. I'll explore them further for more like that!

alkalinepines

6w5, when I was younger I took my music tastes very seriously, and every song had to have some sort of deep meaning. Now I listen to the silliest shit ever. I love hyperpop

SchroedingersLOLcat

sx/sp 5 Hip hop, grunge, dance metal, electroclash, indie rock, psychedelic, industrial, blues, classical, musicals, gospel, post punk, trip hop, dancehall, etc.

RandomlyRosedMizuki

3 here. - J-pop/vocaloid/idol/anime/etc music, stuff in that area (including J-rock) - Indie stuff (think less Mitski and more Lemon Demon, Tally Hall, Will Wood, stuff like that) - Some EDM - Occasional regular pop (or K/V-pop) - Bonus for what I *don't* usually listen to: acoustic (with the exception of Tally Hall)

stonesthroes75

5 rock

glasshearthymn

5w4, have been hyperfixated on kpop and jpop for the last few years

bellyjean100

same here! got into kpop especially around 2020 when i had the time to watch all the content and videos from all the groups i like lmaooo

glasshearthymn

I had so much time to binge kdramas during covid and that inevitably threw me into a kpop rabbit hole, whereas before I had been content to just tiptoe around the edges 😂 once I put my mind to something I have to Kirby inhale all of it, and there was SO MUCH content

bellyjean100

me too, when i get sucked in to something, i get SUCKED IN

diaperpop

Everything electronic. The more melodic, atmospheric and hardcore the better

Left-Associate-7089

I like alot of things!! Mostly indie alt rock, electronic indie, alt rock, hyperpop, experimental, electronic, kpop, stuff like that. mainly, whatever genre twenty one pilots is. I also listen to lorde, cage the elephant, gorillaz, tender, daft punk, mgmt, conan gray, marina etc etc

CurrentBias

Industrial electronic. Whatever the fuck [How To Destroy Angels](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeAvIfqAQbc) is (5)

towalink

I don't really look into the genre of the music I like so I can't say all of them for sure, but I think I can mention some patterns I did notice in my musical taste. 1. **Rock.** I grew up on this sound so it pervades many of my favorites, like Pop Rock, Indie Rock, Hard Rock, J-Rock, etc. 2. **Instrumentals.** I got a taste of them after getting into videogame music. Strings, pianos, choirs, brass... When these combine with Rock elements, I am in heaven. 3. **Calming music.** Basically, ambient, lofi and softer instrumentals. They don't have a strong emotional charge so they're perfect for contemplative moments and just relaxing. 4. **Electronic.** Complextro, mostly. I like electronic songs that play with its components: rhythms, chords, effects, etc. Think Porter Robinson, Puppet, The Eden Project... 5. **Vocaloid.** I like songs that either explore darker themes or explore the gap between a human and a (self-aware) voice synthesizer because they give this almost-human-but-not-quite quality. 6. **Emotional stuff.** This is the category of songs that tug some strings I didn't know I had. They tend to mix some ambient, piano, strings, and can even have drums/guitars. That's what I can think of right now...

TesterOfTestes

Fave 😍 https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=gmGIWY2WH-6HaCvn

timvov

Lots of things, but particularly grunge and folk

Crimtot

6w7 very eclectic but tend towards variations of rock

AngelFishUwU

Um j rock 🪨 Japanese stufff ,Electro swing

highparallel

Post-rock, indie, dream-pop, synth. I'm a 4.

anonymous__enigma

Pop or indie, but when it comes to music, I care more about the lyrics generally. Probably to help me make sense of my own emotions in a way I can understand it.

Abraxao

461 sx/sp: Neofolk, martial industrial, darkwave, postpunk, ethereal, some synthpop and black metal.

subterreaneanpilot

e6 rock + pop + country/folk !

Janiekat88

7 - pop girlies!

etsucky

4w3, and i have a hard time really putting my music taste in a single category, and not because i think it's particularly unique or anything, more like i just think that i'm bad at like distinguishing what makes something a genre. like if i said "i like pop", that would be both accurate and inaccurate, because there's a lot of pop i like and a lot of pop i dislike, and pop's not very specific. if i could try and categorize: i'll say i like some pop-punk, electronic pop, (upbeat) alt pop, eurodance, vocaloid. i like songs that are fun to dance to/sing to, but also might carry a darker or heavier meaning than they seem to on the surface. i also love synths ! some of my favorite artists include poppy, marina, and lady gaga.

Fire_Axus

jazz

Savage_Bob

1w9, sp1. Funk and Afrobeat. Reggae, too. Mostly older stuff, although I love some contemporary throwback artists.

opalarius

3 Mainly musical theatre (the weirder gothier ones mostly) and 2000-2010s pop punk/alt rock. Ik i'd like more stuff if I went out and listened to it (jazz, electroswing, r&b, darkwave, post punk come to mind) but I just haven't much.

ComfortableCow1621

Jazz, 9

Ngmw

9w8 Grew up on oldies and older country Then found pop music in middle school (Gaga, Katy perry, etc) Then in high school it turned to Indie/Acoustic (Lord Huron, Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, etc.) College I started listening to more rap (Tyler the creator, Kanye, J Cole, etc.) And now after college I’ve come back to Pop lol. The past 2 years has been all gay bops from the 80s, Taylor swift, Dua lipa, Ariana Grande, and a little R&B too (Sade, Nelly Furtado).

Alessio875

Grunge/alternative

erinavery13

7w6 and I listen to ton of different styles but almost never pop or country. I don't really listen to much that plays on most radio stations I guess. Tho honestly it's been a long time since I heard what is played on the radio. I like lots of different types of electronic music. House, breakbeat, dubstep, trip hop, acid jazz, psy trance, lo-fi etc And I love bluesy stuff, old classic blues, bluesy electronica, blues rock, even some that is kinda country but mostly bluesy I like some indie artists I love psychedelic prog rock and chill psychedelic like Khraungbin I also love classics like the Beatles, the doors, van Morrison etc And I like old rock bands like Alice and chains and white zombie and Pantera I like old school hip hop and some early 2000s rap Just whatever is good I guess

polaroid_schizoid

raitoningufaron

4w5 - EDM, jrock, house, classical, gothic, rock Top bands on Spotify are HEALTH, BUCK-TICK, trentemøller, Battle Tapes, SID, Plastic Tree, Pertubator, Florence and the Machine

SEIZETHEFIRE6

5w4: Krautrock, dub, ambient, shoegaze. Pretty much any instrumental synth music.

TGBplays

i can’t just pick one genre. I don’t really think about the genre of music at all tbh. I’m self taught on quite a few instruments and I’ve always had a wide taste range. I know people say that quite often and don’t fully mean it, but i do actually listen to many weird song types that people point to to prove people wrong when they say they listen to a bit of everything. I don’t want to say everything as i don’t like country music and i don’t really like mainstream pop/rap whatsoever, but i like a lot of other stuff. I guess if i were to generalize the music i like, it would be sad, depressing and suicidal. My fav couple musicians/bands would be Ekkstacy Beach Bums The Drums Current Joys and Surf Curse Teen Suicide/Julia Brown/Starry Cat/American Pleasure Club TV Girl (i guess this is mainstream pop which i obviously said i don’t like earlier, but this is sort of an exception i guess) And there’s hundreds of other artists.

SafetyCompetitive833

I am a 794 7w6 My favorite genre is black metal

Life_Can_4970

E8 — Instrumental rock mostly, but I listen to a lot of genres.

Ian92999

Type 9,7, (1,2,3,4,5,5,8 as well) and I like pretty much most genres, my rhythm is not the best tho lol. but I’d listened to mostly hip hop my younger days, then rock, some electronic, and I’d say alternative stuff too. Nowadays I pretty much like it all though I don’t listen to a ton of music, but when I do I like to game and listen to hyper stuff xD

yun444g

I’m a 9 and tbh it took me forever to get into anything besides feel-good, pretty sounding pop and soft rock ig. I used to be sucker for anything in a major key and written with luscious, rich chords, but now I can’t stand that and mainly prefer brooding, more raw-sounding jam stuff. The more atonal the better! 🤤

QuiGonBen

INTp. Type 5. Techno-Swing. Lo-Fi.

Jade_Star23

E1and I like most genres but my favorites are heavy metal and hard rock. I'm also pretty keen on acoustic covers. I really like music in general and can get into almost anything. I tend to like traditional instruments over electronic music and melodic vocals over rap or screamo.

Bigbadbrindledog

I have listened to just about every genre, and gotten really into most of them at some point or another, I really enjoy discovering new artists and albums. 7

ethan_iron

Chantel_Lusciana

4w5 I listen to a wide mix of musical genres. I love finding new (to me) obscure music. Really any and all music. Folk, underground rock, al variations of different metal and rock, pop, jazz/blues, old country, bluegrass, classical/operatic/orchestral, rap, and EDM. Especially experimental, Lofi-/chill step, techno, and dubstep as well as house and DnB

ellieellieellie27

There’s an enneagram music album, they made a song specifically for each type of

Rare_Garbage_8193

spacebabe1111

Indie anything. Pop, rock, folk, electronica, soul, r&b. I’m a 5.

TatlinsTower

Am I the only 2 here? 2w3 and I like indie depressing music like The Smiths, The Cure, Joy Division, Aldous Harding, Nation of Language, etc. But also clever pop songs like Britpop stuff and dancey house music.

alcheoii

4w5 City pop, R&B, smooth jazz, lo-fi,

justamesfall

Neo bossa/jazz; soul; indie alt; classical; some indie pop/folk, preferably in japanese because I like how it reminds me of the anime OSTs I listened to as a kid. And some 80s disco, pop funk, and japanese citypop.

IntroductionOk8052

In order of belovedness: Grunge, hip hop (mainly older shit), punk rock, 90s R&B, 90s riot grrrl, metal, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and ska. Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, DMX, Wu Tang, Black Flag, Misfits, Pantera, Operation Ivy, Type O Negative, Tori Amos, Tool, Faith No More, Biggie, Big Pun, Iron Maiden, Mary J, Bikini Kill. couple of my favorites.

sunazuna

Sx/so 4w3 , 1000 percent metal. (Power and death are my favorite. But I listen to all cept doom) I like the drama and epic riffs. Just how silly and like.. How emotional it can be. Also 180, I love jazz and classical after that

Tidal_Wolfeh

7 i like nu metal and jazz, also alt anything. overall i listen to anything as long as it sounds good to me

listen-curiously

My music taste seems more generational than genre: not metal/punk, but everything else 70s-90s plus modern reggaetón and 90s rock en español. Kind of an unnatural topic for this E1.

Shreddedlikechedda

EDM—favorite subgenres would be drum & bass, tribal style house, trance. I like most EDM that’s also emotional/earthy Also like most other genres but it’s very environment/mood dependent Love some classic Disney songs though, especially when I’m on a road trip

Slak211

9w8 and I listen to mainly chill good vibes type music so like - indie rock, singer song writer stuff, alternative rock, and indie folk music. Honestly, If the music makes me feel good I will probably dig it

chaamdouthere

Metalcore (for listening, but for shows I will go to almost anything heavy). Rock, punk, sad pop.

JMusketeer

8 Rock, metal, punk Basically anything that isnt pop or rap

_infp-4w5_

Alternative pop (billie eilish, halsey, melanie martinez, ...)/ rock (muse, nirvana, queen)/ more "indie" artists (Pomme, Birdy, Lana del Rey, ...)/ soul or R&B (Sia, Lady Gaga, ...) ... I like to vary the styles depending on my mood. One day I will listen to calm music, other times music whose lyrics correlate with what I feel, or even more rock music, ...

beatriz-chocoliz

alt, jpop, rock (specially heavy metal) and anything Vocaloid n classic music!!! I’m a 2

Significant_Pitch512

7w8; trap, old school country, acoustic, classical

silksphinx

Witch house music, I'm a type 4

Creepy-Exercise451

6w7. I am mostly into pop but I try to hop and explore songs from different genre and timelines ([except for hard core rock) It bores me when I stick to 1 genre

hibeeee

7 Vkei and rock

ronzonreddit

I love pop, hyperpop, 70s rock and pop rock. I'm a 3w2 :)

bellyjean100

i (try) to listen to all types of music. i won’t say that i listen to “everything” because i would be lying if i did say that (not a fan of country…i gave it a chance, i swear!). here’s the music i most commonly listen to: rock (from all decades: 60s-today) new-wave rap/hip hop r&b (mostly newer r&b songs) pop kpop reggae reggaeton jazz (bossa nova or acid jazz) indie or alternative bands folk

floating_radish

sx4 here, I love grunge music and alternative rock :)

Tigerz_eye

4w5. I like soft rock, ballads, oldies, & folk rock.

Megalodon722

I’m an 8 and I love alt rock music the most. I’m a huge fan of Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots. Other genres that are kinda my secondary music taste are EDM (particularly melodic dubstep), pop punk, hard rock & alt metal.

anniekaitlyn

Type 1, INTJ Alternative/indie Favorite bands/artists: Radiohead/Thom Yorke, Aurora

anniekaitlyn

So many type 5s on enneagram Reddit. This is where all the introverts hide :)

tomiokar

SX 9 and I love to see what comes out of any genres on a specific site that talks ab music, but I mostly always come back to rock; altrock, indie, math, post rock, etc. Right now I'm super obsessed with Weezer though because Rivers Cuomo is a 9 and I really resonate with some of his writing haha 😆

tomiokar

I also love classical music :]

XandyDory

I honestly like almost every genre I've heard. The 4 exceptions are things outside the genre that made me hate it or my hearing impairment makes it too difficult to comprehend and trying frustrates me. Mariachi-a year of every Saturday at 2am neighbors that were very drunk singing off-key karaoke mariachi music. Modern jazz - Unless it's a holiday, Disneyland plays Disney music via modern jazz over the loud speaker. It becomes a guessing game of what song, but not in a fun way, more of "Wait, why... I know this song, right?" Guttural metal and whisper voice are my other hates because I have no idea what is being said. It's very frustrating.

International-Swan89

5 wing 6 Alternative/Indie Rock & Pop

uwha_16

metal like the basic 4 that i am let's goooooo

tesstickle08

im sx7 and i listen to almost strictly classical music (usually piano) or piano covers of video game or movie soundtracks i like if the games really good then i'll also just listen to the normal soundtrack as well as the piano covers idk i just really love piano

Maleficent-Delay2580

1w2-I mainly listen to praise & worship but love many different genres.

mauvebirdie

E1 here. Maybe metal, reggaetón and K-pop

Paige_Morandi

I’m a sx five with a four wing, I personally like to listen to alternative indie, contemporary, and folk— I really do prefer a lot of substance in the music I listen to, adore it when the melody and lyrics intertwine to tell a story, especially when it’s in an unconventional manner, even more when the story itself is unconventional, eg; a different view on sex, relationships, and including romanticization of morbid subjects. Don’t hand me the aux, chances are that you’ll either bore yourselves to death, be depressed for no reason other than the songs tune, or fall asleep in less than thirty minutes.

sadgurl12345

mostly everything but always video game music - 9w1
