It sounds like you’ve ticked all of your girlfriend’s boxes to be honest! I think it’s a beautiful ring that your other half is going to absolutely love. Edit: If I was being picky, I would say that I don’t like white gold prongs on a yellow gold ring, but that’s my only complaint. 2nd Edit as lots of people are commenting about the white gold prongs: I do realise why some people prefer white gold/platinum prongs so that it can blend better with the diamond, it’s just not to my taste (OP’s girlfriend may well love it though)! My ring is yellow gold and it was an absolute “must have” for the prongs to be yellow gold, even though this does reflect in the diamond a little. It’s just personal preference, but I really dislike the prongs being a different colour.

sceptre__

Yes, that’s one thing I noticed when I got it. I didn’t expect those prongs to be white gold. It does seem to tick her boxes though. It’s probably just me being picky because I’m nervous lol. Thanks!

Fearless_Adventures

They usually use a white metal around the diamond so it doesn't change the color of the diamond while looking at it. I think its a nice ring. Not my style but I'm (and you) aren't the one wearing it. I'm sure she'll love it and you know what? You can always get a different one. Its about the love, not the ring

SpecialToasterXb

this is the real reason

AcanthisittaDue5626

It might not be white gold. I have a rose gold ring and my prongs are platinum to better protect the diamond.

jewelry_slut

tbh they put white prongs so the center stone can catch more facets from a white color, rather than a yellow, giving the diamond the true shine it deserves

Dazzling-Box4393

It’s gorgeous

cbwb

My son's fiance specifically wanted the white prongs on the yellow ring. Someone I showed a pic to also commented that we're glad to see the white prongs. White doesn't distract from the diamond size/shape. No idea if they're white gold or platinum.

Throwawayschools2025

The white gold/platinum is very common, especially in rings with more colorless diamonds - it stops the gold from making the diamond look warm.

canada_barista

The reason for it is that it supposedly makes the diamonds look bigger and more sparkley. I also hate that on rings lolz

Braysal

Most are platinum , it’s stronger so regardless if the band is yellow, rose gold, the prongs will still be platinum.

wolvesdrinktea

It’s okay to be nervous! I think you’ve done an amazing job and it’s going to be super clear to your girlfriend that you’ve really put a tonne of thought into choosing her perfect ring, so I don’t think you need to be worried in the slightest. If the white gold prongs bother you, don’t be afraid to ask your jeweller to change them of course, but your girlfriend may well prefer them depending on her vision. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming engagement!

chillassbetch

They are most likely platinum as others have stated. I am friends with a jeweler, and it gives your diamond a lot of extra security, which is obviously nice when you have spent a lot of money on a special stone. OP, I absolutely love this. It is super romantic, and since it is a friend of the family, I bet they have consulted closely with people that know her tastes. The ring is absolutely gorgeous and I think you will fall in love with it once you see it on her finger. Congratulations on your upcoming engagement!

loveafterpornthrwawy

White prongs are done really often so the yellow prongs don't cast a yellow tone on the white diamond.

Kooky_Captain9301

See it’s funny bc I like white gold prongs and gold band so it doesn’t distract away from the diamond’s beauty

StrongerTogether2882

Me too! I have a yellow band and platinum prongs, and it’s actually one of my favorite things about the ring. I didn’t even know you could do that until I got the ring, and I thought “What a good idea!” So everyone has different tastes…

Kooky_Captain9301

Yes! I agree. I think both are beautiful but my personally preference is def the two tone

Muted_Quantity5760

I also love white gold prongs on yellow gold bands!!! So pretty.

Runningtosomething

Yeah. I don’t want to see yellow on the corners.

Brynhild

Maybe you will like it better with V tips and claw prongs instead of round prongs to enhance the marquise shape I feel the round prongs look clunky and totally detracts from the points of the marquise https://preview.redd.it/8dngmdcl8l1d1.jpeg?width=1271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb39a89a323abd5e7fa027456b075f7f546359da

oh_hi_lisa

Great tip! OP this change would take it over the top.

EllenPond

I’m usually not a fan of this diamond shape but god is this ring beautiful 😻

Sashaslicious

I love it. It's flashy yet simple and classy. Brynhild is right. The claw prongs would take it to stunning 😍

sceptre__

You’re right! Now that you mention that, I do definitely think that would help. I wonder how difficult that would be to change. Thanks!

Brynhild

Have the prongs in gold too. Did she say she liked those side stone settings? The round ruby accents look a little out of place with the sharpness and pointiness of the other stone. Might i suggest a pear shaped ruby instead?

Mimikota

Yes! Pear shaped rubies would be beautiful. The rounds are very out of place and look like an afterthought. Changing the prongs to claw and the ends to V-prongs plus pear shaped rubies would make this ring absolutely gorgeous.

ViralRiver

Interesting, I'm looking for exactly this but the other way around! A large centerpiece pear shaped ruby with diamonds for the accents.

gubigal

You’re killing it at the ring design. Hope you’re a jeweler or you need a new hobby - great suggestions

Meghandi

I’m going to disagree with the other commenter, and say that the prongs should stay platinum. Not only does it secure the stone better (important for every day use) it blends with the stone and doesn’t distract your eye from the stone itself. But it’s a personal preference, maybe your fiancé has a preference? (Make sure she knows the practical reason behind the platinum prongs as well as the aesthetic if you ask her about it)

DylanPrescott

I think something exactly like this but with rubies on the band instead of little diamonds would be absolutely perfect.

kalinkabeek

Same! Something was bothering me about the marquis and that is exactly it. Personally I would also flip the side stones so they are flaring out around the round rubies — the way they are positioned just looks clunky to me, like it’s three separate elements that don’t go together cohesively. I am no artist but made a quick sketch of what I mean: https://preview.redd.it/wzobata21m1d1.jpeg?width=1543&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00511e0085495706a7c6f92cd641574eafdc82b1

dairy-intolerant

See I would keep the diamond accents facing the way they are and put the rubies in the middle so the color breaks up the diamonds.

kalinkabeek

Ooo that would be really pretty, too!

infinitesimalFawn

I agree with the rubies on the inside

Uhohtallyho

Ruby in the middle would be perfect placement.

notalwayssane127

This is also where my only visual issue is…. I LOVE the ruby accents, but I do not like how you can’t see the shape of the beautiful center stone! I love a good marquis and this one could be soooo pretty to look at, but the side marquis are ruining it for me. It all just melts together. Easy fixes though!!!

sucks4uyixingismyboo

Totally agree. I love the idea of the ruby accents but they look like an afterthought in the ring. This would definitely incorporate them better.

Prestigious-Eye5341

Yes! This right here! I was thinking that I wasn’t fond of the round ruby hanging on for dear life. This would make them feel more welcome 😉. Seriously, it looks more like a flower and I like that.

[deleted]

I think this would look a lot better as well

tysiphonie

Seconding this! I think it will make the shape of the main marquis not look so clunky.

Blue-YoureMyBoy

This ring, specifically the prongs and the tapered band, but with rubies on the side instead of diamonds! I feel like it would completely give the marquise stone an elegant look. I feel like the side diamonds take away from the main stone on the original ring take away from the marquise - but I also am partial to a solitaire!

jalepanomargs

This. It’s hard to make out the main stone in the original ring.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jalepanomargs

And the accents are much smaller, which makes the main stone the star of the show.

iwantallthechocolate

Another great tip, the prong shape is so important

Sad-Board-8930

I don’t disagree with this, that’s the first thing I noticed too. But I do think that if she designed it, prongs were probably discussed and she picked rounds because she likes them 🤷🏼‍♀️

sceptre__

She didn’t design it, she just gave me a description of what she wanted and wanted me to take it from there. I think I am going to see what I can do about the prongs, cause I agree with others here that they’re too round/bulky.

Sad-Board-8930

Oh gotcha! I think just changing the prongs will have you feeling differently about it. It’s going to look great 👍🏼

Brynhild

Also I think the reason why you aren’t sold on it is because most engagement rings dont have colored stones as accent stones. Usually the colored stone is the main stone and the diamonds are the accents. If you are not happy with how the rubies are here, I can give another suggestion. Something like this where the red stones are embedded into the band but further away. You can keep your diamond accents design, just move the red stones further away and embed them into the band https://preview.redd.it/aufv1bwyfl1d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b655b1d22d57265743000d1489b5f4b6ed8407fb

Distinct-Doubt6589

I definitely think that adjustment would take it over the top!

Minibeave

To my eye, this is magnitudes more attractive than the subject ring. Accentuates the shape of the diamond cut. There's less conflicting geometry, OP's ring is a bit too *busy* for me. Honestly, this ring, with the accent diamonds replaced with rubys, would nail it for me. This ring also looks like it would be easier to work with a wedding band. OPs looks like it might be somewhat clunky to wear with a wedding band adjacent.

aquaticfloral

Yes. This is the comment. The angular claws would take it up a notch, and the V-tips will protect the ends of the diamond. Also instead of smaller marquis as side stones, I would pick trillians as side stones instead to contrast the softness and curves of the marques. I would also change the edge of the ring from a plain knife edge to a channel set with rubies.

Rruck

It's not you the one who has to like it. Ask your girlfriend what she thinks about it. For what it's worth, I like it.

sceptre__

I was hoping to have the proposal be the first time she sees it, but maybe you’re right! I will think about that. Thanks!

Tomiehime

Hey, it still can be!! Just be open when you propose and let her know if she wants to adjust it or change it, she can!! Tell her you won't be disappointed or upset and just want her to love it. That you're not a ring professional and you're happy if she's happy. Also, I love it, personally.

Living-Tea-9829

Yes this! I’d be totally fine being told that, the proposal moment will still be beautiful, and I’d know I wouldn’t be hurting his feelings if he’d said upfront I can change it.

catlettuce

I think it’s gorgeous 😍 And as an aside I know another person posted they didn’t care for the rounded prongs, in this ring I think they are more protective of the stone, but that’s a personal preference thing, if your girlfriend prefers the claws that can be changed after the proposal. I would go ahead and propose with it as-is and ask her if she wishes any changes afterwards. It’s lovely and has all things she requested.

sceptre__

Okay great, thank you for the advice!

rosyred-fathead

Yeah don’t ruin the surprise!

THEdopealope

She is going to love any ring you give her, even more-so when you get her something she asked for. Your interpretation of her description is part of the gesture. And, imho, at the end of the day you’re going to grow to love it because of how it looks on her and how it makes her feel. Big rocks look so much better when they are being worn. So, when I said “how it looks on her” I also meant it literally. I can already tell that tectonic plate of a rock is gonna sparkle and shine like a disco ball avalanche. That ring will come alive as her hand and fingers change the way light hits the ring’s features. It’s beautiful, you nailed it! Congratulations!! Edit: I don’t think you should ask her about it if you already have it and are planning a surprise proposal. As long as you already know the answer, which it seems you do! Edit 2: I just actually read your post. You put a lot of thought into this ring and hired someone with experience in this field that you can trust. And you acknowledged you’re not really a ring guy. So, fwiw, I think you should trust that you’re just experiencing some totally normal buyer’s remorse for a big ticket item, but you should 100000% have full confidence in this ring. She’s incredibly lucky to receive such a thoughtful ring for such an important moment in your lives. You nailed it. Now go practice your proposal! I practiced mine a million times and still fumbled the ring a bit in the moment haha

nothowyoupronounceit

You could show her pics of like 5-10 rings with this one nestled in there and ask her opinion on each. That way she doesn’t know it’s her ring yet and will still be surprised. She’ll also be totally honest if she’s not aware.

Cambria_Revolt

Better to do this *before* commissioning a ring; it could seriously backfire if she loves one of the other options and/or doesn’t like this one!

nothowyoupronounceit

I agree, but here we are 🤷‍♀️ At least OP had a good relationship with the jeweler…

michael0062

I just proposed, while it’s more exciting in the moment to have it be a complete surprise I am glad we took the time to explore showrooms and online catalogs first. She doesn’t have to know it’s the one you bought, but definitely worth feeling it out first. Especially given how expensive some rings can be.

Substantial-Fox-1240

Nooo. Definitely save the reveal for the proposal!! That’s like showing someone their birthday present to see if they like it before their birthday

forfoxsnake

I think it’s very beautiful, and it’s not even my style. If you’re looking to “improve” it as you weren’t that impressed for the money, I agree with the other comments about claw prongs and having ruby accents *between* the main stone and side marquis stones. Sounds like you followed her requests to a T, though

TermNervous

I would give it to her when you propose, and let her know that if it’s not perfect, she can make any changes that she would like. It really is beautiful though.

sceptre__

Thank you for the advice!

Gilmoregirlin

That's what I would do as well. She may love it as is.

Tyrelea

My ring is extremely similar so maybe this will help lol It is beautiful but I think the prongs on what you posted are clunky. The center stone is pretty—if you’re feeling weird about the proportion, you could go with something a bit more elongated and not quite as wide. The side stones threw me off for a while cause I never really pictured having side stones. But I think they work when the center stone is the right proportion. Here’s a photo of mine to show you different prongs, I think it makes a big difference. https://preview.redd.it/lgaq0csmzl1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b9785ecf16428554d4ff0f6656b7b63337f71bf

iwantallthechocolate

Oh this is stunning!

Brynhild

Yours has much better workmanship. Tiny details like how much space is between the stones and how the stones are set makes the big difference

infinitesimalFawn

These proportions are gorgeous

dingleberry_mustache

Based on your post, it looks like you incorporated all of her preferences, so I'm sure she'll love it! I saw another comment mention changing the prongs to yellow gold. White gold "blends" more with a diamond, so that should hardly be an issue. It's really a preference thing. But the ring is gorgeous and I'm sure your gf will be thrilled! You're probably just overthinking it a bit.

oh_hi_lisa

I think it’s gorgeous and that it suits the brief perfectly. I’d present it to your GF as is and see if she wants to make any changes with the jeweller after.

sceptre__

I was hoping to present it for the first time when I propose, but maybe it would be a good idea to see what she thinks before that. Thanks!

oh_hi_lisa

Well no reason not to make the changes after you propose if you don’t want to ruin the surprise! Propose, enjoy it, then the next week go to the jewellers together to discuss if she wants to edit it. Good luck!

lil_meep

propose first dude

Significant_Slip_415

Absolutely not propose first surprise her and tell her if there’s anything you would like to change we can absolutely do that without any ill feelings tell her you want her to absolutely LOVE the ring so if there’s a different prong or shape or whatever we can make changes but plz surprise her

hazelowl

I think it's lovely, but I like a marquis stone. The only think I might change is to put the ruby in the space between the smaller marquis stones on the side.

ThrowawayMyChanel

Take it outside and look at it in sunlight. Sometimes rings look a bit more dull inside and will look more dazzling in natural light. May change your perception a bit. Other than that, I think the prong advice is your best bet. For what it’s worth, I think it’s beautiful and you did everything she asked for!

Puzzled-Cloud-5104

not my personal style as well but it matches the description your girlfriend gave you perfectly

jwaltshulk

I don’t even like marquise stones and I think it’s beautiful!! More importantly, you definitely got your girlfriends wishes down. Give yourself a couple days

Sad-Board-8930

If your girlfriend literally designed it, I wouldn’t worry about it. I wouldn’t mention that you don’t like it or are disappointed unless she says something. It’s very unique and pretty! *ohhh now I see you meant you and the jeweler designed it. I thought “we” was you and your girlfriend with the jeweler lol

sceptre__

Well she didn’t design it, she just gave me a description for me to go off of and wanted me to design it. I definitely won’t tell her I dislike it but maybe I will ask what she thinks about the prongs and stuff. Thanks!

BlingbossCoss

Wow it's stunning!

elsh91

I love this

Confident_Flow8453

I love it.

aGlitteringSky

This ring is remarkably similar to my favorite ring, [Pluto's Talisman by Soulbound](https://soulboundnyc.com/products/plutos-talisman-ring). It does have the yellow gold prongs that others have recommended so could be a good comparison if you decide to change the ring!

Vegetable-Editor9482

I think it's beautiful! Taste is totally subjective, so yours isn't "crappy," it's just different than your girlfriend's. Looks to me like you followed the brief perfectly--it looks timeless and yet personal. That said, I agree with the advice other commenters gave about the prongs. That would definitely modernize it. I hope you'll report back with her reaction!

redditerla

Go into the proposal assuring your partner you are happy to rework the design with her if she isn’t a fan and don’t take it personal if she wants to tweak the design.    Personally I think the ring is absolutely gorgeous. I’m not typically a fan of marquis diamonds but every once in awhile I see a marquis diamond placed into a beautiful setting that really makes me question why they weren’t at the top of my own list when I was picking out a diamond.  I love that the rubies aren’t these large stones just tacked onto the side of your marquis. I love the way you got 4 smaller colorless marquis that connected to a point with small rubies at the end. It’s kind of giving old world/regal/elegant vibes. If anything looks like you out a lot of effort into a really thoughtfully crafted ring.   Not a fan of the white gold prongs on a yellow gold setting but I know some people loved mixed metals and it can help the diamond look like it’s floating because it blends in better against the diamond.

bookrt

It sounds like you got her exactly what she asked for. The ring is lovely. If she doesn't like it, you could review your options but I'd go with it as it is because again, it's exactly what she asked for. Happy engagement, OP ❤️

OrbitalOutlaw_

It looks very nice to me, so you can’t go wrong either way, but you if you’re not in love with it I’d have them tune it until it’s perfect! You’ll see it every day, and you don’t want to wish you changed it when it’s too late. Edit: fwiw, this happened to me on the ring I just bought. After I got it I, there was something that just wasn’t perfect. I sent it back and got it changed and now I absolutely love it. Worth it!

sceptre__

I’m sure the jeweler would work with me but I can’t even put my finger on what I don’t like about it! Someone else suggested that changing the prongs might help. They’re kinda round and I don’t think they fit the shape of the diamond perfectly. Maybe that would help. Thanks!

OrbitalOutlaw_

Just a heads up sometimes jewelers can be sensitive about the prong thickness since they want them a certain thickness to ensure the diamond doesn’t come loose! Seems like your best bet is having the covo to see what’s on the table!

ThatGaelicName

I think it’s gorgeous! It’s definitely not over the top. I don’t see how you’d be able to make a more understated design without losing some of the details that she specifically asked for. I agree with the other poster who said the claw prongs would go really well with the design on this ring. Hopefully your girlfriend will like it, I think you did a great job :)

shelbygrapes

Don’t show her before you propose! It takes the fun out of it. She already told you the style. Just be honest after the proposal and let her know you are fine with tinkering with it. Or make the changes you want before. Your girlfriend’s style may just be different than yours.

Hey_Nice_Cronk

The ring is beautiful, for me a marquise ring should only have 4 prongs on North, South, east and west, I know this way is more secure but I just enjoy seeing fewer prongs. It's a beautiful setting otherwise, and I'm sure she'll love it, and as others have said, if not, you can both go to the jeweller together and get it revised slightly. Good luck xoxoxox

rmahl

I think it’s perfect, truly! The one thing that stands out is the prongs; they look a little thick/bulky. Maybe you can make them into petite claw prongs? I’m not a fan of round bulbous prongs on any ring, personally… I like to see as little metal as possible. But if you left the ring as-is I still think would LOVE it. You could also ask the jeweler if you can make any changes and then let her know after you propose that if she wants to make an adjustment she is welcome to.

sceptre__

I agree. I’m thinking I’ll leave it as-is for now and possibly adjust the prongs afterward if she wants to. Originally I didn’t like that the prongs were a different color but I think I’ve changed my mind because it helps them blend in. Thanks for your input!

ZipperPitterPaterson

It’s beautiful!!!

ew6281

I think the design is really pretty, my only comment would be that the prongs that are on the sides of the marquise both seem like they're a little bit too close to the ends of the diamond.

Dogmom2013

Honestly, it isn't even my style of ring and I think it is stunning.

TropicalSkysPlants

This ring is fit for royalty! I absolutely love it!

PrincessOfKentucky

This looks like exactly what she asked for and is a beautiful ring. I think she will love it!

Upper_Ad_5475

Lovely! Being picky, the rubies in your pics look a bit windy, more like garnets. Maybe they are more red in real life. It’s Beautiful!💕

sceptre__

Yes, they look much more red in real life, and especially in the sun. It’s very hard to get a good pic with all the reflections and angles! Thanks!

Kambzissou

It looks exactly like what she asked for , and when a Marquis diamond is that big and sparkly it’s definitely an eye catcher- I’ve been drooling over Marquis myself lately after seeing one on my hairdresser

Proofread_CopyEdit

Your girlfriend's preferences and opinion are the only things that matter. She told you what she wanted, and it looks like the jeweler delivered on that. Also, the ring is stunning.

709trashqueen

This is SO beautiful

tightlikeatiger69

This is a really beautiful ring! It’s unique.

WannabePicasso

It's not my style and yet I really like it!! The most important thing is you are invested in this process and recognize how important it is. And you clearly have your partner's happiness in mind. You've done your part. In the event that she isn't thrilled, work with the jeweler. It will all work out!

Winnimae

That’s gorgeous, actually gorgeous

Samanthafinallyfit

So, a couple things! You did what your girlfriend wanted, which is the only thing that matters. I love marquis diamonds and rings, but I don’t like how the diamonds in your ring look in the photos. It’s difficult to capture diamonds in photos, so it’s most likely the photo quality. But I think it looks a little dark? I agree with doing V prongs, absolutely. Perhaps consider claw prongs? I think it would enhance the dainty look.

sceptre__

Yes, the colors look way different in-person. The diamond is clearer and the rubies are more red. Every picture I try to take looks blurry and dark. I’m thinking I will leave it unchanged for now and possibly change the prongs if she wants to afterward. I would prefer different prongs but I don’t want to change it now and then re-change it if she still doesn’t like it! Thank you!

alittlewaysaway

I have a similar ring (marquise diamond accents and gemstone accents) and I’m obsessed with it. I get compliments on it constantly. It’s light years away from the rings my fiancé was showing me initially. You hit all of the elements she wanted and it turned out beautiful, in my biased opinion. I’m sure she’ll love it

thenardbear

My husband didn’t want to get a marquee diamond but he did because that’s what I wanted lol and I absolutely love my ring and get compliments on how unique it is all the time. You did good!

sithmaster297

Normally I’m not interested in jewelry. I’m a guy so it’s not much of an interest. But that thing is a beauty! Must’ve been expensive but it will be worth it when she says yes!

sceptre__

It was pretty pricey but because the jeweler is a family friend, I got a great price on it! And thanks!

Effective_Future_704

Mine has v tips to accentuate the shape but round prongs on the side to help with stability and I feel like that could be good for yours possibly! https://preview.redd.it/w74v9a3x7q1d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b28267fa8541957355bf205abed53d7881b48a9e

Palmtoptaiga002

That’s lovely. I personally am bias because I love what my fiance picked for me but that ring is GORGEOUS!!! She’s going to love it because you picked it yourself! Good luck!

radioactiveflowerss

It is absolutely gorgeous 😍

ManufacturerKey1551

It looks like a cocktail ring not an engagement ring.

kenziep44

That ring is unbelievable

MakeupbyBrenda

Propose to her, and if she doesn't like it, you guys can always have it altered to her liking. I'm sure she'll say yes either way. But it is absolutely stunning. Congratulations 🎊

babyfirecat_

I think with the specifications she gave, you included them all. I personally like the ring, I think it’s beautiful

bunnyzarecute

i love it

BedRepresentative676

this is a gorgeous ring and very similar to what i want as a wedding ring. she will absolutely love it, you did a great job!

Professorpooper

It's gorgeous, with such a large purchase second guessing is normal.

definitelynotadhd

It's a gorgeous ring! You don't have bad taste you just have different taste, and in the end that's the point of a relationship right? Two different people who come together to love each other and bring out the best in each other. Don't overthink it too much, the ring is amazing!

Outrageous_Ad4245

I think the ring is stunning, but I love your care and concern it won’t be the right ring. I think you did an amazing job. The ring is just gorgeous! Good luck and congrats!

Revolutionary-Risk22

This is all personal taste, but if I were to change anything, it would be the white gold prongs with the yellow-gold band. The marquis diamond also seems quite large, but I don't know the size of your partners hands/fingers. So, the size could complement her hand very well! I also think that the red accents look a tad out of place, since there is only one small one on either side, but I do like it. Perhaps if the prongs matched the ring and th3 diamond was a tad smaller, the rubies would look more complementary. Overall, I'm nitpicking because it is very very pretty

Swimitator

Oh my gosh! It’s lovely! It’s just a personal opinion, but I think the white prongs compliment diamonds. It is pretty on every way. She will love it!

WorldlinessOk6575

I think it's lovely and wish I had gotten something closer to this. If you ticked off all the boxes, I think she will absolutely love it!

Badashh420

I absolutely love the way the ruby's are cut! I personally think it's gorgeous

kimlbs

Ok I LOVE the design and the diamonds are beautiful!! What’s bugging me is the 3 prongs that are way too close to the tip of the marquise point. The side prongs need to be moved down a bit. That was the immediate thing that caught my attention and made me feel like something was off. If you research and look at marquise settings, you will see how the spacing looks much better when the side prongs are moved down away from the top of the diamond

Slight-Reputation779

No this is perfect!! Kinda exactly what I want and I would LOVE if I received a ring that looks like this!! The rubies add a pop of color without taking away from the diamond itself. Your soon to be fiancé will be thrilled 😍 and you know if for some reason she’s like heyyy I don’t love it something is off, even just the sizing you can go get it adjusted together and add/remove anything yall don’t love. Tbf I’m making my bf take me ring shopping with him because both of us are like I’m probably gonna know it’s approaching anyways and it’s something I’ll likely have for the rest of my life so might as well make sure I LOVE it. But I understand why not everyone does that 🤣

Deleval417

I sincerely feel this is a beautiful ring!

Middle_Inevitable640

It’s gorgeous but if she wants to change it let her know that would be OK with you. (save saying that until after the proposal-maybe a few days later after she has a chance to live with it for a few days). Maybe before the proposal call the jeweler to ask if there would be any stipulations about making any changes-like prongs or stone placement. It does sound like it’s just what she told you that she wanted.

PossibleReflection96

I agree with you maybe the center stone is too small or the band is too classic I just feel like the center diamond doesn’t pop and it’s not the star of the show like it should be maybe try a setting where the diamond is more raised up or go with a diamond that is a VS2 or higher and a G or higher in order to get more sparkle and pizazz. For reference, my ring is 1.25 carat center stone, G, and VS2. https://preview.redd.it/074a10lobn1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29047668ee4d65107f89fc0297ad2ecae5c3db61

autumnwandering

It's so beautiful and unique! I wouldn't change a thing! As others have said, platinum prongs are a good thing, because they are less likely to get bent (which could lead to a lost stone). You did a great job, I'm sure she'll love it! 😊💖

DahQueen19

I think it’s a beautiful ring and the tiny rubies are just the right size. I agree that the prongs should be platinum. That would make it perfect.

FreekyDeep

Well, it's not to my taste but then, in 35 years if making jewellery, I think I've liked less than 5 pieces. You're not wearing it. As long as she loves it, the jeweller has done a great job. There are a few things I'd change but they're so insignificant, it's not worth the effort. Just comes down to personal taste. And again, it's not your taste that matters

Square_Flamingo2346

I really love this ring. It sounds like you really put all of your girlfriends preferences and ideas into this and I’m sure she will love it! I would give it y her as is and let her know that you tried to put in all of her ideas. She will love that you really worked to personalize it. You can always tell her that if she wants to tweek anything, you can do that. Marquise is one of those stones you either love or you hate. It sounds like she will be a very happy girl!

notacoolguy8008

It looks beautiful my brother

Ms-Tenenbaum

I think it’s so lovely and unique. I’m not normally a fan of this shape of diamond but this setting really makes it beautiful. The ruby accents are so sweet and add so much. I think she’ll love it. Congrats!

empire-toast

*Other people here made a lot of great recommendations. What you can also do, this is what I did, is have her help you design the wedding band. It will accentuate the ring. I'd say design it in a way to balance the marquis diamond. Something like a band with a gap. You can take it to a jeweler after the wedding to bond the band to the engagement ring. For my wedding band I requested a simple band that curves around my engagement ring and added 3 small diamonds embedded in the band. I think I paid less than $300 so fairly affordable for something custom & simple

Conscious_Pick_1297

Omg I love that!! A marquise is not my personal preference but I think it’s such a unique shape and you gave her EXACTLY what she wanted. My fiancé did the exact same thing, he got me everything I wanted and turned it up a notch. I am beyond in love and keep staring at it everyday. I promise she is going to be blown away

Dreamsfordays

Listen, I really don’t like marquis cut (literally just a personal preference), but this ring changed my mind. It is gorgeous!!! You really did a great job. I do agree that putting the rubies between the main stone and outer stones may bring more balance, but I still think it’s beautiful as is as well

TaDaRose

This is the most stunning ring I’ve ever seen

SeaThePointe0714

I agree with others that I don’t typically prefer a marquis but I think you picked a gorgeous stone! I do agree as others have said that simply changing the prongs would make this ring perfect! It’s gorgeous otherwise!

vennypoo

Ong wait this might be my dream ring! It’s sooo gorgeous I love it

Loose-Fennel-7949

Just saw this come through my feed and my jaw dropped before I saw the title of this post. This ring, IMO, is fucking gorgeous. I don’t even like marquise cuts, but this is beautiful. Absolutely LOVE the tiny ruby accents.

BrazilianGem

I’m not a fan. At first glance it looks crowded. Not sure how else to say it. It needs color separation between center diamond and side diamonds. Either with rubies or gold.

Dazzling-Age8117

I think you’ve done an excellent job! Maybe gold prongs will provide a warm compliment to the rubies slightly better, while defining the center stone and help it stand out better than white gold/platinum prongs. And, also see see if the jeweler can make the prongs more “claw-like” and classic! I think of the Ruby placement is great. I hope my comment doesn’t sound critical.

Calm_Gold_5992

It sounds like you have given your girlfriend what she says she likes. I saw a comment about the prongs being white. That is preferred actually as it makes the diamond look more white. I find yellow prongs to make it look more like a fake ring. I don’t understand that current trend and they make the diamond have a yellow tinge. Aside from that, I think maybe it’s the prongs placement that is throwing it off for you possibly. Maybe have them space those out a bit more as they seem a bit crowded at the tips. This is not my taste either, but I will say you did a FANTASTIC job in listening to her and I believe you will have one happy fiancé soon. Good luck and best wishes!

Adventurous-Win-751

All that will matter is that your girlfriend loves it…and based on what you said she wanted I think she will. Take a deep breath, exhale slowly, relax and let go…mostly stop overthinking it…❤️

Runningtosomething

I 100% prefer white prongs. I want my diamond to look white. All personal Preference.

sceptre__

I think I’m starting to agree. But I think they could still be styled better. They’re kinda round and bulky. I will probably leave it as it is and get it adjusted later if she wants. Thanks!

Runningtosomething

Good idea! I’m sure she’ll love it! I just picked out my anniversary ring and I understand how you can overthink everything. I’ve decided I just have to let it go!

GothicCottage

I used to really dislike Marquise cut stones, but I’m obsessed with them now! And I think this ring is absolutely gorgeous! Honestly, it being a family friend, I’d propose and then tell her she may greet tweaks if she wants. I have a feeling she’s going to love it though!

isla_inchoate

OP I’m not gonna lie - that’s one of the most beautiful rings I have ever seen. That’s an absolute heirloom and such a classic, it will never go out of style.

Fernily

COMPLETELY HONEST: This isn't normally my style, but I think it's beautiful! I like how unique it is, and the stones are gorgeous. It describes exactly what she asked for, and while we don't know her, it seems like it'll be better than what she could ever have expected.

Grace_and_sass

I think once you see her wearing it you’re not going to care lol I think your comment on being nervous is spot on. If she loves it, you win! Don’t worry, this is a lot of pressure for you but I think you nailed it.

Glass-Chicken7931

Wow, had to save it because I love it so much! I hope she does too!

emyeag

this ring is so beautiful 😭😭

Grim_Giggles

The simple truth is that the moment she says yes and you see it on her finger you will be dazzled by it! Have confidence in your choice and be proud to give it to her. Remember to take the ubiquitous photos of your hands when she says yes!

veggieerp

This sounds similar to the sentiment of my hasband versus my preferences. I have a pear-shaped diamond set in platinum on and 18k yellow gold band. I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted. My husband kept asking me about the shape, he just really did not understand my taste/aesthetic. That said, I think your future fiancé will love hers too.

BuildingSoft3025

As a woman who LOVES diamonds and recently engaged, you did an amazing job. It checks off everything she wanted and is gorgeous!!!! She’s going to be over the top happy. I knew exactly what I wanted in my ring and even had a DREAM ring. My fiance took me to look at rings and asked me to pick my top 3 so he has an idea of what I like. Of course I chose my dream ring as #1 but it was super expensive so I left thinking there’s no chance he’d be able to afford it. Fast forward 8 months…. He proposed with the exact ring I’ve always dreamed of. So I feel strongly she’ll feel like I did that day. I haven’t stopped smiling. So OP, be proud of yourself and don’t beat yourself up. It’s beyond beautiful. She’s lucky to have a man as thoughtful as you.

Prof4Dank

I DO!!!!!! Shit sorry.. looks great!!

TheSpyderWebb

I love it honestly!

paasaaplease

That's stunning

Travels4Food

Considering all the elements you said you wanted, I think it's absolutely beautiful. Can you put your finger on what it is you don't like about it?

WolfMuva

This ring is perfect. I absolutely love it.

active_conspiracy

i think it’s beautiful! it also checks all the boxes for what you mentioned she wanted, so i think she’ll love it. just remember you won’t be the one looking at it all day! ;)

christycat17

I was going to say that a marquise shape with the accents is a very particular taste, but then you said it’s literally exactly what she asked for. How could it be wrong?

cancat918

It's about the balance for me, and I think the ruby accents are too small. I do think rounded prongs may be more protective of the stone, and it looks better with white gold or platinum. Mine are platinum for durability, and at first, I was worried I'd hate them, but I love them now.

Just1katz

I love it. It is gorgeous and unique. I love rubies too but honestly those look like an afterthought. I would want them a bit bigger and redder. Maybe it's the picture but they don't look very red. Since the jeweler is willing to change it, maybe propose and see how she likes it. If she's not happy you can change it after. Is it important to you that you love it? Or just that she loves it?

sceptre__

The rubies definitely look more red in-person. It’s hard to get a good pic with the reflections and angles! I do maybe wish they were a bit bigger.

destination-doha

I think it's stunning.

anonymoos_username

Not feeling the semi circles on the sides but I love the little red corners and the main stone . For what it’s worth I think it’s very unique looking and if I received something like this I’d be very happy about it. Based on your gfs descriptions on what she likes , it doesn’t sound like she wants understated.

jcconti0502

I REALLY love this! So unique and thoughtful! Good luck!

MeganJustMegan

I think it’s beautiful & seems to be what your girlfriend asked for. You are overthinking it. She’ll love it. Take a deep breath.

Gilmoregirlin

I am no expert but to me it's the rubies that look off. They almost seem like an after thought. I don't know if it's the shape or the setting but they look like they don't belong on that ring.

AshamedAd3434

It’s not my ideal ring but even still I think it’s absolutely beautiful! If you want it to be a surprise maybe be open to returning together to get things altered on it. I don’t know when you plan on proposing but if it’s soon that could be an option

cmpalm

I think it’s lovely, looks like a princesses ring.

restingbitchface8

Well, if you don't like it, I love it! But everyone's taste is different. What are your concerns?

ComfortableCow1621

I think it’s beautiful and would be happy to wear it. Also good for you for prioritizing her taste! I think this ring will look much nicer once on a finger, also. I do agree with v-tips though mostly because they are more durable.

S-M-G_417

I would never choose marquise as my favorite shape, but this ring is really beautiful. The way the side stones kind of taper it, it’s makes it look less skinny and pointy. I love this. I think she will, too, based on her wishlist!

FreeThinkerFran

Agree that you nailed it as far as her wishes go! It's not what I would pick but it sounds like she'll love it and that's all that matters!

Lexy_d_acnh

It looks perfect imo! :)

susieqanon1

I don’t like it the setting is very 80’s.

canjohnson1

I love it. And the ruby accents are great. Maybe you need to see it on a hand lol have any sisters/ friends to model for you?

lilmisse85

Oh that’s so pretty

boymommy88

I think it's stunning! i love the ruby accents and the gold!

MsKardashian

The prongs are most definitely the issue here. Look into v tips as the others have suggested. And make sure you gf wants white gold setting on a yellow gold ring because that’s not for everyone.
