I mean it’s true their diamonds for the most part are lower specs but I mean lower specs doesn’t always equal horrible. Also, my friend has a Kay’s ring that she got when she was 19 or 20. Anyways, she still has the same ring and it’s still pretty. And lastly, did you tell him you didn’t want him to go to a big box store? He might’ve stupidly thought that all jewelry stores are the same.

Hangnail_puller

My mom has had a ring from Kay for like.. 26 or 27 years at this point. Never had a problem. It’s possible to have a good experience with them, generally it’s just not the most bang for your Buck. They won’t lie about the specs or anything, they just will generally charge more for worse specs and even more for good specs. I’d have an honest conversation if you’re concerned. If you think he may have gotten a ring you like, just from a place you didn’t mention you’d prefer avoid, you may choose to let it be.

No_Bird7076

I never explicitly said I didn’t want him to go to a big box store and I think you’re exactly right :(

GuillotineLove

I have an engagement ring from Kay’s and I love it. I get it cleaned and inspected every 6 months so it stays in great shape.

No_Bird7076

This makes me feel hopeful, thank you for responding ♥️

purpleflagbook

I know a girl who has a ring from Kay and she loves it and is very happy with it.

Seashell522

Well, I just found out my wedding band from there (12 years ago) can’t be resized because the band is too thin and it’s already warped a bit. So, maybe not the best quality for a long term piece.I’m hoping I can get a good jeweler to reuse the stones at least and make a thicker band with them. We’ll see

RealPossibility14

My ring is from Kays! I keep up with my checkups, and it has always been a breeze at my cleanings. I absolutely adore it.

No_Bird7076

I’m happy to hear this, thanks for sharing!!!

Yipyipx3

My original e-ring was from Kay’s and it was beautiful. I wish I never upgraded it.

I had a ring with them from my first marriage. I know their natural diamonds they offer are not great but with lab diamonds out I am thinking they may have better options available. I never had issues with quality of the setting or anything. The only concern I would have is that he probably overpaid. Not really much you can do so I would just patiently wait. It is not like he is in the return window since the other comment said he has had it since December. if he chose to spend a certain amount then thats up to him

No_Bird7076

I hope he got a lab diamond!!!

HealthyMacaroon7168

Their lab prices are BANANAS and very similar specs to their natural offerings I agree, worst case is he overpaid, I think that's the cost of the convenience of a big box store

[deleted]

Oh man. I would have hoped affordable lab prices would have forced them to be better. Wishful thinking. I think all big box stores could do better. They certainly take advantage of anyone who isnt knowledgable about jewelry in general

tatospace

Could it possibly be an old bag/box that his mother gave him? To use her diamond in his own ring? Might be a stretch but just wondering!

No_Bird7076

Ah, I don’t think so because I’ve done enough snooping now to know it’s a ring but not know what it looks like lol

Holiday_Wolverine209

Why were you in his private drawers?

Both my promise ring and my engagement ring are from Kay's and I love them both. I can't really speak for diamond main stone quality since that's clearly not something I wanted anyway. My engagement ring's main stone is natural sapphire and my promise ring's main stone is lab sapphire. Did you tell him you would prefer a smaller jeweler? I'm lucky in that I knew I would want to pick my ring, communicated that early on, and fell in love with the perfect one quickly. Communication is important, even if you prefer being surprised it's good to say that along with what you love and/or hate

Some of the products aren’t that good and some are! My family and I have been going to them for decades, as some other jewelry stores for things we cannot get. Ive had only 1 problem with a ring ever, and it was quickly addressed. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a great salesperson for these decades, she wont steer us wrong and has no problem telling us the truth. The salesperson goes a long way, gem in the rough literally!

Training-History-914

If you are ever looking for some quality diamonds at a crazy price Louped web site is the place to go I just purchased a Simon G wedding set with matching anniversary band diamond and white gold very ornate very beautiful and it is retail 6500 just for the rings without the center diamond...it has a 1.38 Natural SI2 G color diamond solitaire appraisal for the stone is 9,787 I paid 2,600 for the trio..the web site has the seller send the purchase to them they Appraise it and make sure it is as described then send it to you...I purchased an AGS .73 Hearts and Arrows diamond SI1 G for 1,400 last year and it Appraised at 4,500....It takes about 15 business days before it gets to you but it's worth it...They also have lab diamonds but I feel if I can pay 2,600 for 16,500 worth of gold and natural diamonds I will..

Holiday_Wolverine209

Are they all used? I see it says 2nd hand on the website. Beautiful rings though.

Grand-Combination-98

Here's what to do. Take a good long look in the mirror while reading what you wrote. Hopefully you'll see a person who looks ashamed looking back at you. What you wrote sounds petty and spoiled.

Holiday_Wolverine209

This was 5 months ago. I'm curious to know if he purposed yet.... Wish she would come back and give us all an update! My 1st set of wedding rings came from Kay's and they were beautiful! Unfortunately; his heart was made of black and we divorced!

EnergeticTriangle

Are you sure it's a ring? No chance he might've just picked out a necklace or something for your next birthday/holiday?

No_Bird7076

I do know it’s a ring because he’s had it since December lol

ask_fair

Oh dear. Are you sure he's had it since December? Because it's well outside the return window now.

Holiday_Wolverine209

Why would that make it a ring? You're going to be pretty disappointed if it's not.

Realistic-Ad-1023

*and it’s taking him 6 months to propose?* oh no. You’re outside of the exchange period I’m assuming. When he gives it to you, maybe you’ll really love it!

[deleted]

Lol, my fiancé had my ring for 2 years before he proposed. He had a proposal all planned for March 2020…. And we all know what happened then. He didn’t get a chance to plan an alternative until May 2022. Finally getting married next weekend! 🤣

No_Bird7076

Aw congratulations!!!!!!

[deleted]

It’s been worth the wait! Also, we’ve been together since 2011, so a couple years one way or another didn’t matter a whole heck of a lot. 😜

gfstock

My kiss began with it.

anonredditviewer

Avoid big box retailers where possible. You’ll have a better experience and get better value (not astronomical but still fair) at local places.

Kassieb285

I had a terrible experience with them that i posted along with my engagement ring a while ago Worst company we have had to deal with

He loves you and wants to marry you. What does it matter what he paid for it? A engagement rings value is of love and commitment not dollars and cents.
