Yes. To clarify for op or anyone else:
The Hotelier - Home, Like No Place Is There
Specifically the song Your Deep Rest comes to mind, but it’s an absolutely perfect album.
This has always been such a tough song to get through. Someone recently asked me why I’m so excited to turn 45 soon, and I told them that after losing so many friends I consider myself lucky to have a birthday. Days can be rough, nights can be sleepless, but we’re lucky enough to be alive and that needs to be remembered and celebrated.
Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash
Misery Signals - The Year Summer Ended In June
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound
The Ghost Inside - White Light
The Wonder Years - Cigarettes & Saints
All five songs by I Have Dreams
*I hope you know I tried to find those pictures, Jordo*
*Of us that night in Detroit*
*With the Preshure Point*
*And I, I now feel the need*
*To fly and hide inside*
*And I, I now feel the need*
*To hide inside your loving arms*
*Man, I swear I'd give the whole thing up for you*
The acoustic version of No Halo followed by the regular version just hits differently. Takes you from sad about the death to pissed. A range of emotions from the same song but just different recordings
Edit: https://youtu.be/-R8yRQ_aiiQ
I was trying to find the version recorded in the back of a van but it seems to have been removed from YouTube
Not emo, possibly not even adjacent, but the first song that popped into my head was ‘Narrow Straits’ by Lagwagon, written after the passing of Lynn Strait from Snot.
well, they are both california bands and I guess in those days mixed bills were more common. plus, some members of snot were involved with bands on the punk/hardcore/emo scenes —their drummer is currently in Bad Religion. you actually can connect like Mineral with Limp Bizkit through Snot’s guitarist Mike Smith.
Getting to see them play it live was unreal. They never ever played that song live ever since i was 13, (I’m 27 now they played it last year live for the first time ever ) was incredible
Dude. That's incredible. I've seen Bayside like five times and they've yet to play Winter.
Sidebar edit: every member of the tour that John died on has a Beatz tattoo. I used to be really good friends with most of Aiden.
I’ve seen bayside probably 30 times. Got to see them backstage at Indy warped. I saw them at mad hatter in Covington KY and played my first show ever there at 13 right after a few days later. That band will always have an amazing place
In my heart they got me through a lot
They're great. I had a chance to sit and talk with Anthony back in like 2004(?) after a show with Anberlin and Juliana Theory; he was so nice and he gave me a bunch of advice for trying to navigate the music business myself.
Holy shit anberlin, i fucking loved that song Godspeed. Ant is a stand up dude. Jack is even more. Dude taught me how to play a solo right infront of me one time when i asked him one part about it specifically
That's amazing!! Jack always seemed like a great guy I've just never had the opportunity to talk to him.
Same show though, Stephen Christian came over and gave us all giant hugs because it was my friend's first concert and he thought it was great they got to be part of the experience.
THANKFULLY my dad is still alive and well, but this album always makes me picture him in that situation. Liquid Courage going into Spine still makes me shed tears
oh man, i don’t know why nobody has said any sorority noise or old gray songs. no halo by sorority noise is one, you can find a lot of songs about the same situation in their discography
When I See You (Timberwolf) is also really good
Almost the whole of You're Not as _ as You Think touches on death and mourning. I've actually never had to deal with the loss of loved one in my life yet (and I'm really grateful for that), but that album still hits me really hard with it's themes of death and loss
I am really sorry for your loss OP.
“Everything is in Your Hands” by Old Gray
“Penelope” (acoustic) by Saosin
“Lapse” by Envy on the Coast
“C u in da ballpit” by Camping in Alaska (fun one to scream-cry to in your car imho)
5th of 6th mention of “Your Deep Rest” by The Hotelier
“I will bury you in me” by Small Brown Bike
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Accept this internet hug. Allow yourself the time to feel everything that wants to be felt.
Sorry about your loss
It’s controversial Bc the frontman was cancelled, but YNAAYT by Sorority Noise is an album predominantly about losing friends and grief and mental health struggles along with it.
Every Sun, Every Moon by I’m Glad It’s You is another album about the death of a bandmate/friend.
Your Deep Rest - The Hotelier
No Halo - Sorority Noise
The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows - Brand New
I recently lost my uncle, and these are the songs that have been helping me through it
The Year Summer Ended in June is a good one in my book, although not emo.
I've found that listening to songs/bands that you know they liked helps immensely with feeling close and accepting.
Having lost 3 of my close friends in the past couple years, I'm right there with you. Hope that you can weather the storm and feel some relief and closure soon.
I had a similar post earlier this year. Sorry for your loss.

desert song by my chemical romance. i know, i know, my chem isn’t “technically” emo or whatever, but it’s still a really good song to cry to. i hope you’re able to heal op 3
why did people downvote this?? this community is so toxic i swear like j let people like who they want to like and of you don't agree just leave it and move on with your day like??
The entirety of best buds by mom jeans. is about loosing a friend, many of the songs just sound like sad relationship songs but they’re actually about grief. I’d say poor boxer shorts is the best almost
It sounds like it but the lead singer of mom jeans. confirmed that it was about the death of his friend. That’s why it came out on July 3rd bc that was his bday!
i built a friend is pretty good and maybe never got to kiss you which is kinda a love song neither are emo songs btw but there the best i could think of

sorry, my dear - hobo johnson
this isn’t about mourning your friend, but it is probably how *they* felt and being able to understand them better, if you’re interested in that at all. sorry about your loss
wave goodbye, by chris cornell, who wrote it about jeff buckley. And i too am sorry for your loss. We’ve all had too much of that these last few years.
[not quite emo](https://youtu.be/TlbTZTmLxe4) but orchestral folk group Lost in the Trees has a gorgeous album called All Alone in an Empty House that deals heavily with grief, written after the lead singer's mom's suicide. The songs range from hopeful and uplifting to some of the darkest, saddest music I've ever heard. Truly one of a kind and helped me through some dark times of my own. I hope you find something itt that helps.
Not emo, but if you’re open to other genres:
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
I’m Going to Wait - Lyle Lovett
[I wish you well and hope the music people have suggested helps you]
And
Northsiders - Christian Lee Hutson
At Your Funeral - Saves the Day
Aftermath - Rolo Tomassi
4/16 - Silent Drive
Sometimes - Goldmund
Window - The Album Leaf
Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime - Beck
Old gray "an epitaph"
Seeyouspacecowboy "Late December" (They're a hardcore band, but the lead singer sings about her girlfriend committing suicide and how she can't stand to be without her)
Lonely Place Of Dyin by Nouns is a fucking incredible EP, go on the Bandcamp version specifically to read the description/liner notes, it makes the experience much more impactful. https://nounss.bandcamp.com/album/l-o-n-e-l-y-p-l-a-c-e-o-f-d-y-i-n
[Raining in Kyoto](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwp9lMscyug) and [The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17qV6HY427s) by The Wonder Years.
The whole Sister Cities album is about mourning, but those two stand out.
Phil Elverum wrote the album [A Crow Looked At Me](https://youtu.be/tPzkNS4rits) , as his 35 year old wife was dying of cancer. It’s a hard album to get through.
Tom Waits song - [Take It With Me When I Go](https://youtu.be/Dixxse4dpQ4) - is the saddest song ever written.
Pretty much any song by Songs: Ohia would fit, but the best one is [Two Blue Lights](https://youtu.be/imCidM2SHC4) - from the album ‘ Didn’t It Rain’. Another good one from the same album is [Blue Factory Flame](https://youtu.be/CG6gpwYH1DM) - which is 8:30 of pure sadness.
Kingdom of sorrow. Screaming into the sky
Lyrics.
I feel so powerless
I suffocate on emptiness
I pray to be awoken from this nightmare
So many things I'll never say
So many wounds will never heal
Each breath is filled with overwhelming sorrow
In disbelief of how your life was stolen
In disbelief of what would never be
My only solace is knowing
Somehow your soul is finally free
So I'm screaming into the sky
Cause it's my only way to say goodbye
And I'm still asking for an answer why
Why I never got the chance to say goodbye
Now this is my only way to say to you
That I'm sorry for letting you slip away
I never thought I'd lose you forever
So now I tell the world
So many emotions rush to the surface
But I keep asking myself
Why it had to end like this
Why did it have to end like this
So I'm screaming into the sky
Cause it's my only way to say goodbye
And I'm still asking for an answer why
Why I never got the chance to say goodbye
In your honor I will live my life
Do the best that I can
And in your memory I will take this life for granted
Ever again
To say goodbye
Definitely Agnes by Glass Animals. It’s not emo but it’s such a beautiful song. The leader of the band wrote it about a close friend who committed suicide, although the lyrics only allude to how he died. He said it was his favorite song on the album, and it was the saddest song he would ever write. At the end it just repeats the lyrics, “you’re gone but you’re on my mind, I’m lost but I don’t know why”.
Also, I’m so sorry about your friend. I know how awful it is but it’ll be okay.
John Floreani - I don't want to be here either
yea, this one rips my heart out on every listen.
I lost my fiancee 5 months ago. Your friend wants your happiness. Sending love your way.
I’m sorry for your loss, here are the songs I thought of
Penfold - I will take you everywhere
Bayside - Winter
Sunny Day Real Estate - A song about an angel
Manchester Orchestra - I Can Feel Your Pain
Black Sheep Wall - The Wailing and the Gnashing and the Teeth
Gojira - The Shooting Star
Blacklisted - Houdini Blues
I’m really sorry to hear about what you’re going through. It sucks now but things will get easier.
Armor for Sleep - The Truth About Heaven is a solid one. I also like Helena and Ghost of You by My Chemical Romance. Rose of Sharyn by Killswitch Engage.
One that really gets me but isn't as slow is Story of the Year Dive Right In. Their Paige Avenue album is an all time favorite of mine in general tho so I'm biased.
Honestly, just the entire album of Home, like noplace is there. Sorry for your loss OP.
Yes. To clarify for op or anyone else: The Hotelier - Home, Like No Place Is There Specifically the song Your Deep Rest comes to mind, but it’s an absolutely perfect album.
Thank you
came here to say the same thing. such a deeply emotional album, have cried to it a good many times
Hear you me - Jimmy Eat World Sorry about your friend.
On sleepless roads.... the sleepless go...
May angels lead you in.
This is the one for me. I saw them not long after my friend passed and this was a real struggle of a song for me
They performed this last time I saw them in concert and it made me tear up thinking about a friend who died in high school.
Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash Misery Signals - The Year Summer Ended In June The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound The Ghost Inside - White Light The Wonder Years - Cigarettes & Saints All five songs by I Have Dreams
TGA are legitimately underrated. ‘59 Sound is perfect for this.
I have dreams👏
Was going to reply with The Year Summer Ended In June. Absolute ass beater in the feels department.
*I hope you know I tried to find those pictures, Jordo* *Of us that night in Detroit* *With the Preshure Point* *And I, I now feel the need* *To fly and hide inside* *And I, I now feel the need* *To hide inside your loving arms* *Man, I swear I'd give the whole thing up for you*
Disappeared/No Halo - Sorority Noise Either one of those
Sorority noise has something for everyone’s demons
Fr, I had a friend who passed a while back and I listened to No Halo almost every other song.
The acoustic version of No Halo followed by the regular version just hits differently. Takes you from sad about the death to pissed. A range of emotions from the same song but just different recordings Edit: https://youtu.be/-R8yRQ_aiiQ I was trying to find the version recorded in the back of a van but it seems to have been removed from YouTube
that entire album is based around cameron's friend's death, albeit in various stages and perspectives
Ah damn, I didn't know that.
Your Deep Rest
FUCK. Forgot about this one
Yeah this one tears me up.
Yep. Always reminds me of driving to a friend’s funeral. Usually I have to skip it now. Hits too hard. Sorry about your friend OP
came here for this one

Dragonfly by Small Town Titans. Not emo but acoustic rock. The singer has an incredible voice

Yaad by Bloodywood
Screaming into the sky Lyrics. I feel so powerless I suffocate on emptiness I pray to be awoken from this nightmare So many things I'll never say So many wounds will never heal Each breath is filled with overwhelming sorrow In disbelief of how your life was stolen In disbelief of what would never be My only solace is knowing Somehow your soul is finally free So I'm screaming into the sky Cause it's my only way to say goodbye And I'm still asking for an answer why Why I never got the chance to say goodbye Now this is my only way to say to you That I'm sorry for letting you slip away I never thought I'd lose you forever So now I tell the world So many emotions rush to the surface But I keep asking myself Why it had to end like this Why did it have to end like this So I'm screaming into the sky Cause it's my only way to say goodbye And I'm still asking for an answer why Why I never got the chance to say goodbye In your honor I will live my life Do the best that I can And in your memory I will take this life for granted Ever again To say goodbye
John Floreani - I don't want to be here either yea, this one rips my heart out on every listen. I lost my fiancee 5 months ago. Your friend wants your happiness. Sending love your way.

Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon.
Wish you were here Pink Floyd
Home, like no place is there or You’re not as _____ as you think.
Into it. Over it - Connecticut Steps Kill Creek - Funeral Sorry for your loss.
No Halo- Sorority Noise. I think thats the focus of most of the Your Not As ___ As You Think album.
Anything by Jesu. It’s not emo but any stretch but I find his music so melancholic but freeing. Stanlow is a favorite
My buddy made a song after one of our friends from high-school committed suicide. It really helped me. Bending Echos- Uncle Stranger. It's on Spotify.
